(crime under the arch). Crime of impurity between unmarried persons. Figuratively, infidelity to God (Ezek. 16:2²Son of man, cause Jerusalem to know her abominations, (Ezekiel 16:2); Jer. 2:20²⁰For of old time I have broken thy yoke, and burst thy bands; and thou saidst, I will not transgress; when upon every high hill and under every green tree thou wanderest, playing the harlot. (Jeremiah 2:20); Matt. 5:32³²But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery. (Matthew 5:32)).
