Forty in the Scriptures has the significance of a time of testing. The first of these periods occurred at the time of Noah and the last at the ascension of the risen Lord to heaven. Each of the seven periods deals with an important spiritual subject. These subjects are sin and judgment, law and mercy, faith and unbelief, human weakness and divine strength, repentance and forgiveness, conflict and victory, and redemption and glory. Who wouldn’t benefit from spending time considering these great subjects?
Most of us would greatly benefit from keeping our minds well-occupied while commuting, exercising, doing housework and other necessary tasks that leave the mind free. It’s true that the best way to listen to excellent ministry such as 40 Days would be seated comfortably with pen and paper in hand. But why not shut out less profitable thoughts or recordings and revel in God’s Word while we are engaged in daily life.
