Fragment: Christ the Food of His People

One danger for Christians, at the present moment, is the desire for stimulants in teaching. This also characterized Israel. (Amos 2:1111And I raised up of your sons for prophets, and of your young men for Nazarites. Is it not even thus, O ye children of Israel? saith the Lord. (Amos 2:11)) But stimulants are not only not food, but, in the end, they create a distaste for it. They serve only to excite the imagination, intellect, or nature, and never reach the conscience or the heart. The evidence of this desire is the itching ear. (2 Tim. 4:33For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; (2 Timothy 4:3)) Christ, and Christ alone, is the food of His people.
