“Friends”

PSA 35:13-15¹³But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth: I humbled my soul with fasting; and my prayer returned into mine own bosom. ¹⁴I behaved myself as though he had been my friend or brother: I bowed down heavily, as one that mourneth for his mother. ¹⁵But in mine adversity they rejoiced, and gathered themselves together: yea, the abjects gathered themselves together against me, and I knew it not; they did tear me, and ceased not: (Psalm 35:13‑15)

But as for me, when they were sick . . . I behaved myself as a . . . friend. . . . But in mine adversity they rejoiced.

David had shown kindness to others in their troubles. But when he ran into troubles, those he had shown kindness to rejoiced over his calamity. The friendship of the world is fickle at best. The prodigal son in Luke 15 had lots of “friends” as long as his money lasted. But when it was gone, so were they. “No man gave to him.” Make the Lord your trust and don’t expect repaid kindness from others. Be careful who your friends are.
