93. From the Palace of His Glory

8,7.
by F. Bevan
1
From the palace of His glory,

From the home of joy and love,

Came the Lord Himself to seek us;

He would have us there above.
“All thy garments smell of myrrh, and aloes, and cassia, out of the ivory palaces, whereby they have made thee glad.” (Psalm 45:8)
“I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father.” (John 16:28)
“And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.” (John 17:5)
“For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.” (Luke 19:10)
“And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.” (John 14:3)
2
There from that eternal brightness

Have His thoughts flowed forth in love;

He in His great love would have us

Ever there with Him above.
“Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high.” (Hebrews 1:3)
“Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.” (John 17:24)

Trembling we had hoped for mercy —

Some lone place within His door:

But the crown, the throne, the mansion,

All were ready long before.
“And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants.” (Luke 15:19)
“Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.” (2 Timothy 4:8)

And in past and distant ages,

In those courts so bright and fair,

Ere we were, was He rejoicing,

All He won with us to share.
“I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was. When there were no depths, I was brought forth; when there were no fountains abounding with water. Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I brought forth. While as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor the highest part of the dust of the world. When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth. When he established the clouds above: when he strengthened the fountains of the deep. When he gave to the sea his decree, that the waters should not pass his commandment: when he appointed the foundations of the earth. Then I was by him, as one brought up with him: and I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him. Rejoicing in the habitable part of his earth; and my delights were with the sons of men.” (Proverbs 8:23-31)
