(warning). In Hebrew sense, a place manned, provisioned, and fortified (1 Sam. 13:23²³And the garrison of the Philistines went out to the passage of Michmash. (1 Samuel 13:23); 2 Sam. 23:14¹⁴And David was then in an hold, and the garrison of the Philistines was then in Bethlehem. (2 Samuel 23:14); 1 Chron. 11:16¹⁶And David was then in the hold, and the Philistines' garrison was then at Bethlehem. (1 Chronicles 11:16)); guards (2 Chron. 17:2²And he placed forces in all the fenced cities of Judah, and set garrisons in the land of Judah, and in the cities of Ephraim, which Asa his father had taken.
