Your.
Faithful.
I want to be lost.
I'd like to turn tonight to Exodus.
And the 28th chapter.
Exodus chapter 28 and the sixth verse.
And they shall make the effort of gold, of blue, and of purple, of scarlet, and fine twine linen with.
With cunning work, and it shall have the two shoulder pieces thereof joined at the two edges thereof, and so it shall be joined together.
And the curious girdle of the effort which is upon it shall be of the same according to the work thereof even of gold, of blue and purple, and scarlet, and fine twin linen. And thou shalt take 2 Onyx stones and grave on them the names of the children of Israel, six of their names on one stone, and the other six names of the rest on the other stone, according to their birth, Birth, with the work of an engraving.
Stone like the engraving of a signet.
Shalt thou engrave the 2 stones with the names of the children of Israel. Thou shalt make them to be set in oches of gold.
And thou shalt put the 2 stones upon the shoulders of the effort, for stones of memorial unto the children of Israel, And Aaron shall bear their names before the Lord upon his two shoulders for a memorial. And thou shalt make the ooches of gold, and two chains of pure gold at the ends of recent work shalt thou make them, and fasten the recent chains to the oaches, And thou shalt make the breastplate of judgment with cunning work.
After the work of the effort, thou shalt make it of gold, of blue, and of purple, and of scarlet, and a fine twine, and shalt thou make it.
Foursquare it shall be being doubled, A spine shall be the length thereof, and a span shall be the breadth thereof. And thou shalt set in it settings of stones, even 4 rows of stones. The first row shall be a sardius of Topaz and a carbuncle. This shall be the first roll. The 2nd row shall be an emerald, a sapphire, and a diamond, and the third row a leg yore and agate, and an amethyst, and the 4th row a burl and an Onyx, and a Jasper.
They shall be set in gold in their enclosings, and the stone shall be with the names of the children of Israel. 12 according to their names, like the engravings of a signet. Everyone with his name shall they be according to the 12 tribes, And thou shalt make upon the breastplate chains at the end of recent work of pure gold, and thou shalt make upon the breastplate two rings of gold, and shall put the two rings.
On the two ends of the breastplate, and thou shalt put the two wreath and chains of gold in the two rings which are on the ends of the breastplate.
And the two other, and the other two ends of the two recent chains, thou shalt fasten in the two ouches, and put them on the shoulder pieces of the effid before it. And thou shalt make two rings of gold, and thou shalt put them upon the two ends of the breastplate in the border thereof, which is in the side of the effort inward. And two other rings of gold shalt thou make, shall put them on the two sides of the effort underneath.
Toward the forepart thereof, over against the other coupling thereof, above the curious girdle of the effen, And thou shalt bind the breastplate by the rings thereof with under the rings of the effort, with a lace of blue, that it may be above the curious girdle of the effort, and that the breastplate be not loosed from the ephod.
00:05:19
And Aaron shall bear the names of the children of Israel in the breastplate of judgment upon his heart, when he goeth in under the holy place for a memorial before the Lord continually. And thou shalt put in the breastplate of judgment the Urim and the Thummim, and they shall be upon Aaron's heart when he goeth in before the Lord. And Aaron shall bear the judgment of the children of Israel upon his heart before the Lord continually. And thou shalt make the role of the effort all of blue. There shall be a hole in the top of it in the midst thereof.
It shall have a binding of woven work round about the whole of it, as it were the whole of a hammer, John.
That it be not rent, and beneath upon the hem of it thou shalt make pomegranates of blue.
And of purple and of scarlet round about the hen thereof, And bells of gold between them round about a golden bell, and a pomegranate a golden bell and a pomegranate upon the hem of the robe round about. And it shall be upon Aaron to minister, And his sound shall be heard when he goeth in unto the holy place before the Lord. And when he cometh out that he die not, And thou shalt make a plate of pure gold, and grave upon it, like the engravings of a signet.
Holiness to the Lord.
And thou shalt put it on a blue lace, that it may be upon the miter, upon the forefront of the miter it shall be, and it shall be upon Aaron's forehead. That Aaron may bear the iniquity of the holy things which the children of Israel shall hallow in all their holy gifts, and it shall be always upon his forehead, that they may be accepted before the Lord.
All my thought in reading this portion tonight is.
That it brings before us in a very beautiful way the present work of the Lord Jesus, for us as our great High Priest. And there are three particular things that I was thinking of as it's brought before us here. That is, on the names on the shoulders would bring before us the Lord's strength to carry us through The names upon his heart would bring before us His love for us in carrying us.
And then the Urim and Thummim would bring before us the wisdom of his ways with us as he carries us home. And then in the latter part of the chapter, it seems to me we have the result that would be produced in our lives as we enjoy these things, because I believe it's in the measure in which we enter into and enjoy and shall I say, avail ourselves of his work for us there.
That there is a result in our lives for his glory and praise.
We know that these garments of glory and beauty were actually not worn by the High Priest because of failure, because as soon as sin came in then they were to wear the holy linen garments. But oh how lovely it is to know that our precious Savior has completed the work of redemption, has glorified God about the whole question of sin, has brought us into such a perfect standing that He does not have to take up the question of our sins and answer for them continually.
Like the priest in Israel that has been settled once and for all, and so now he can be before the Father. Not to settle the question of our sins, but to supply grace to help in time of need as we go through a world like this. And I believe the great thing that hinders our progress is so often.
Discouragement, It's because we get occupied with ourselves, with other things.
Instead of looking to him, then we become discouraged along the way. One has been struck in noticing in First Peter Five that where Satan is spoken of there as the roaring lion, it's not connected with persecution. We often think of Satan as the roaring lion in connection with persecution, but if you notice the context there and first First Peter 5, you'll notice, it says.
Casting all your care upon him for he careth for you. Then be sober. Be vigilant.
Because your adversary, the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about seeking whom he may devour.
00:10:05
That is, if we don't cast our cares upon the Lord, if we don't seek His grace and health, then Satan comes in and tells us that.
The Lord isn't caring for us that he isn't taking looking after our interests and we become discouraged. And how often the enemy works that way, You know, often in persecution a Christian is happy. He's rejoicing many of those who lay down their lives at the stake and who were thrown to the lions.
We're rejoicing and happy, but a discouraged Christian is not happy. A discouraged Christian has lost the enjoyment of his portion, and the Lord Jesus is up there to maintain us in the enjoyment of it. In Hebrews 10, where we have the truth about coming into the presence of God with holy boldness, it says, I'm having an high priest over the House of God. Let us draw near.
Yes, that blessed One who is our High Priest is there.
To maintain our souls in the enjoyment of what we have in Him, so that we would have that happy and blessed holy boldness in His presence.
Well, to come back to our chapter, it's beautiful to trace some of the details in connection with these garments. In the sixth verse where we began, it says Thou shalt make the effort of gold, of blue and of purple, and of scarlet and fine twine linen.
Well, these things bring before us the various glories of Christ. I think many of us are appointed with the meanings of these different materials, but I believe they're very precious to reconsider. The gold which was used so much in the Tabernacle is a symbol to us of divine righteousness. And so that Blessed One, who is up there before God for us, has settled the question of sin. He is there.
Shall I say in all the acceptance of His blessed work. And so the goal tells us of divine righteousness. And every believer has this perfect standing before God, because we are made the righteousness of God in Him. And then to it says blue. Yes, the 2nd man is the Lord from heaven, the blue is the heavenly color, and this one who is our high priest is the heavenly 1.
Who came down here? And then the purple brings before us his royalty. He's the rightful king. He's the one that we've been speaking about in some of the meetings. Who is soon to take his place and who will reign from sea to sea and from pole to pole. The one who will be crowned with many crowns, who will be acknowledged as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Oh, what a one we have acting on our behalf.
We might choose someone to act on our behalf in some matter, but he hasn't enough influence. He hasn't enough wisdom to handle our case. But all how lovely this one is there in all the righteousness and glory of his blessed person and of his work. He is there as the one who is the heavenly one himself, and yet who became a man. He is there as the one who is the rightful king.
And then Scarlet. We know Scarlet speaks of human glory. And isn't it lovely to think that there is going to be one as man, as man who is going to take this position of glory in a future day? And at this present time he is there for us. You know, a man likes glory for himself. When Scarlet is applied to man and his fawn state, it's connected with his desire to exalt himself.
It tells us about as a woman in the Book of Revelation, upon whom God brings such awful judgment, that she was clothed in scarlet. As she acquired this glory to herself, she wanted to be the prominent one, the great one in the earth, for herself.
But there's going to be a man in all human, in whom all human glory will center.
And that's the Lord Jesus. Yes, that blessed man who stood so low and died for us. And he's up there a real living man in the glory and then fine twine linen. Well it tells us in Revelation 19 The fine linen is the righteousnesses of Saints, that is its practical righteousness and awesomeness. Lovely to know that the Lord Jesus.
00:15:19
Has trodden the path before us, and in every step of his pathway.
He glorified God, his Father. You and I may find ourselves and do find ourselves, and very difficult in trying circumstances. Well, isn't it lovely to know there's been one who's trodden the past before us, who's marked it out all you say. But he's perfect and I'm not all that. He's given us his life, He's given us his life. He that saith he abideth in him are himself also. So to walk even as he walked.
Or you say, don't you make any excuse for failure? No excuse, but thank God there's provision. We have a perfect Savior, we have perfect power, and we have the Holy Spirit indwelling us. But all it's good to know that when we do fail, there's provision for it. Yes, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ, the righteous, but let us not excuse ourselves for failure when we have failed to own it.
But isn't it lovely in all the things that we have to face in life to know that perfect power, perfect love and perfect wisdom is on our behalf? And all that through the one who is up there living for us as our great High Priest?
Then it says that these shoulder pieces were to be made, and in them it says the ninth verse. And thou shalt take 2 Onyx stones and grave on them the names of the children of Israel, six of their names on one stone, and the other six names of the rest on the other stone, according to their birth. Well, I've always enjoyed this little verse.
Just think of those names graven upon those two Onyx stones.
On the shoulders of the High Priest. Now I'm sure you noticed while I was reading it.
That on the heart in the breastplate there were 12 different stones, and that the each one of the stones bore only one name, whereas on the shoulders there were just those and two stones, one on each shoulder. And the stones were both the same, they were both Onyx stones. Well why is this? Well, it's beautiful to think of this fact that as to our place of security.
Each one of us have an equal place of security before God. The shoulders speak of those blessed shoulders on which the sheep was placed. When it was picked up, the shepherd lifted up the sheep and put it on his shoulders, rejoicing.
Put it on his shoulders, rejoicing. And how far did he carry that sheep? He carried it home. He carried it home. How secure was it? As secure as the hands of the Father and of the Son could make it. And so isn't it lovely to see these names upon shoulders of the High Priest according to their birth? That is, when you were born into the family of God, why you were placed upon the shoulders of the Good Shepherd.
As I look into the faces of many here tonight, I can say you were on the shoulders of the Good Shepherd before I was.
Yes, these names were grave, and according to their birth as this blessed. And there they were equally and those 12 names upon those 2 stones. And of course they had to be the two shoulders, because the Lord Jesus bears the government of the earth on his shoulder.
What seems to be a tremendous burden to man and indeed.
He can't handle it. The government is in a state of continual unrest because of the awful problems they have to face. The Lord carries the government upon his shoulder. But such is the security of the believer, such as his love for his own, that we are placed upon his shoulders. And he is carrying us home, carrying us all the way, and nothing could ever rob us of that place of security.
00:20:06
We have there, and these stones were set in ouches of gold.
That is, these storms were held securely in these golden settings. And so when God placed us before him in this place of security, we are also in a place of perfect acceptance, the righteousness of God in Christ. And you know, this is a precious thing to get hold of. We know there are those who think that they can be lost again.
Well, that's because they don't realize that there is a the place that we have been brought into has nothing to do with our works at all. It's according to divine righteousness. And so it tells us there is now therefore no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus and in Acts chapter 13, it says, Be it known unto you, therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins.
And the New Translation is And in him all that believe, not just by him, but in him all that believe. Yes, that's the place that we occupy. And so these stones weren't just set loosely upon the shoulders of the priest, they were set in settings of gold and all. If there should be a doubting believer here tonight, let me tell you that you are as secure as God can make you.
We're just speaking today of that lovely portion in the end of the 8th chapter of Romans.
And perhaps you have noticed there that there is a very unusual thing, and that is a transition from the singular to the plural. In those two verses it says, I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, and so on and then it goes on, shall be able to separate us.
From the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. This is quite unusual in the English language, that the sentence begins in the singular and ends in the plural. But in no other way could this wonderful truth be expressed. Because I want to tell you this, that whether you're persuaded of it or not, it's true of you. Nothing shall separate us happy for the believer. Who can say?
I am persuaded. In other words, I am in the good of it. In my soul I am rejoicing.
But it's true of the believer whether he is enjoying it or not. Such is the blessedness and the perfection of the work of Christ that this is the place into which the believer is brought.
And then it says in the 12Th person they thou shalt put the 2 stones upon the shoulders of the effort for stones of memorial, and to the children of Israel and Aaron shall bear their names before the Lord upon his shoulders for a memorial. Yes, there they were, They were continually born there. And the Lord Jesus, I repeat, is carrying each one of his own home.
Well, now these were fastened by chains to the breastplate, and the breastplate was made of similar material. And there was the blue, the gold, the blue, the purple, and scarlet and fine twine linen, and it was fastened by these recent chains of gold. This is beautiful, the way the gold is brought in here so often, because God never acts inconsistent with his own nature.
There is one thing God can't do. He cannot lie. He cannot act inconsistent with his nature.
And God is righteous, and if he is going to bless, he has to bless on a righteous groan. And he does. And so how beautifully this is brought out in this passage. Now the 16th verse about the breastplate 4 square. It shall be being doubled. We notice this expression often in connection with the Tabernacle and the way of approach to God. This expression 4 square.
Now in the Old Testament, God was dealing with a particular nation. He picked up the nation of Israel. He said, salvation is of the Jews. And so we might have thought, well is this blessing to reach beyond that nation. It was always in the purposes of God to go beyond that nation, to reach out in blessing, to reach out to whosoever will. And so it's brought before us here.
00:25:16
Four square it shall be.
And so isn't it lovely that not only in the United States, not only in Canada, but wherever a believer is found, he is brought into the same blessed place, and he has the same blessed man in the glory living for him?
And then it tells us a span shall be the length thereof, and a span shall be the breadth thereof.
Those two hands, the Spanish way, doesn't it make you think again of those verses in John 10, The Father's hand and the hand of the Son? So here we have this.
Breastplate Foursquare doubled and we have double security and then a spam each way. Now we remarked a moment ago that.
There were different stones, it says.
In the 17th verse.
Settings of stones, 4 rows of stones and the names of each of these stones are mentioned. And the 21St verse says and the stones shall be with the names of the children of Israel. 12 according to their names, like the engraving of a signet. Everyone with his name they shall be according to the 12 tribes. Well, I've enjoyed this little thought.
That when the names were graven upon the shoulders.
They were graven on those two Onyx stones, but when they were graven on the heart, each name was graven on a different stone, and each one had a particular beauty of its own. I think we who our parents can understand this a little bit, and that is the place of security into which the believer is brought is equal. But we have a special love for each one of our children.
You know, I have three children and each one of them is different. Their dispositions, their feelings, their fears, everything about them is different. And I think I can say, although I love them all alike, there is a sense in which I have a special love for each one. And realizing the differences that exist in them, I love them according to their need and according to that which I feel requires.
A special display of love and affection.
And in all to my own heart this is very, very precious, that as the Lord looks down upon this.
Room tonight. He doesn't say, Oh well, there's 150 believers or something like that.
Although he looks over each one, and he knows just exactly what each one of us have to face in life, he knows our particular tendencies. He knows the He knows the things that we have to come up against in our lives. How some of us are naturally forward, some are naturally backward. Some find it easy to display their feelings, some do not.
And each one of us are different. Well, does the Lord make any distinction? All. Yes. Each one of these stones was beautiful. It doesn't say that one was more beautiful than the other. You or I might classify and say, well, we think some of these stones were nicer than others. And as we look over, we might say, well, I think that Christian is a nicer Christian than someone else. But it doesn't say that here, just that each one.
Had its own peculiar beauty. And you know, these stones were not lighted by ordinary daylight. They were lighted by the seven Branch Candlestick in the Holy Place. And that was a light that shone upon them. If one might speak in this way, a divine light. And how lovely it is that the Lord Jesus is looking down on this company tonight. And don't think that you're lost in the crowd.
Don't say well, nobody understands my feelings. Nobody enters into the things that I have to meet that even my parents don't seem to understand what I go through and the conflicts that I have. But there's one who does.
00:30:04
There is one who does. There is one who not only loves us perfectly, but who understands us perfectly, who understands us. And it tells us in Hebrews we have not an high priest that cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities, but was in all points tempted, like as we are, yet without sin. And it says this one, because he continueth ever hath an unchangeable, or the new translation is.
An intransmissible priesthood.
That is not one that passes from one to another and two ones own heart. This is a comfort because.
You might have a person that was a very dear friend whom you felt understood you, and you could go to him and talk things over, and then that person perhaps is taken away in death. And you say, I've lost a friend. I'll never be able to replace him. He was so dear to me. He was so near to me.
But I've lost him. But this one. He has a priesthood that doesn't pass from one to another.
He knew you when you were a little baby in the in the cradle. He knew he saw you grow up. He knows all about you. He knew your parents too. And he knows the whole background of our lives and all, how blessed it is. This is the kind of a high priest that we have. And so there were those stones arraigned so beautifully on the breast of the high priest, and they were there continually, continually, because the Lord.
As we were noticing last night, he never ceases to love his own, one has often remarked.
That the times in the Scripture when he assured his people of his love was always at a time, were always at a time when perhaps we would least expect it. He assured them of his of his love toward them when they were in a condition that they might have wondered how he could still love them, for instance, when they were at the end of the wilderness journey.
It says yeah, he loved the people. All his Saints are in my hand.
When Jeremiah was warning them about being carried into captivity because of their sins, it says in the 31St chapter, Yeah, I have loved thee with an everlasting love, therefore with loving kindness that I draw me. The little little remnant in Malachi's time had failed grievously, but the prophet is sent to tell them of those things that grieve the Lord.
But in the midst of all this, he says, at least at the beginning of all this, he says the burden of the word of the Lord. By Malachi, I have loved you, says the Lord. And if there's any one here who has become cold or who has got away from the Lord.
And the enemy says, oh, he can't love you the way you've gone on. Oh, I tell you he does love you. That's what draws us back is, the little hymn says.
Still sweet tis to discover if clouds have dimmed my sight. When past eternal lover toward me as air thou art bright. Oh yes, he he doesn't change in his love. So here we have the 12 Stones upon the heart.
And then it goes on to say again.
In the 23rd verse and thou shalt make upon the breastplate two rings of gold, and shall put the two rings on the two ends of the breastplate, And thou shalt put the two recent chains of gold in the two rings which are on the ends of the breastplate. And so they were to be fastened to the shoulder pieces. And then passing on to the 28th verse it says, And they shall bind the breastplate by the rings thereof onto the rings of the effort with a lace of blue, that it may be above the curious girdle of the effort, and that the breastplate be not loosed.
From the effort, I think this is very lovely. Here we noticed again how the settings were in gold, The chains were of gold, and then these were fastened by a lace of blue so that they could not be loosed. They could not be loosed. That one who has gone up there, it tells us in Hebrews it says we have an high priest who has.
00:35:15
Entered the heavens for us, whether the forerunner is for us, entered even Jesus. Yes, this one who came down here and died, the heavenly one. He's gone up. He's entered there for us. And so these were fastened in such a way that they could not be loosed. It seems as though the Spirit of God would seek to impress upon us over and over again through this lovely chapter.
The two things especially.
The fact that we stand in divine righteousness.
And the fact that we're perfectly secure, and so they were fastened to the breastplate. The place on the shoulders were just as sure as the place in the heart. Sometimes a Christian will say, well, I know I can't be lost, but.
There's still a question and a doubt how the Lord's love, whether we're fastened together. His love is just as secure as the place that we have upon His shoulders.
Then the 29th verse, And Aaron shall bear the names of the children of Israel in the breastplate of judgment upon his heart, when he goes in unto the holy place for a memorial before the Lord continually.
Well, these names were born when he went into the Holy place. He bore them upon his heart. And in the 12Th verse which we read, it says.
They were for stones of memorial onto the children of Israel. Isn't this nice to notice? The children of Israel were to know this, and as the high priest went in, they were stones of memorial before the Lord. That is, the Lord would have you.
To be enjoying in your own soul the preciousness that he sees in his own. Isn't this very sweet that we can have, We can have the very thoughts of God as to our position before him, and the place of all his people. Now this 30th verse, and thou shalt put in the breastplate of judgment the Urim and the Thummim, and they shall be upon Aaron's heart when he goeth in before the Lord.
And Aaron shall bear the judgment of the children of Israel upon his heart before the Lord.
Continually. Now, we're not told just what this means or how this was arranged.
We are simply told these two words, Urim and Thummim, which means lights and perfections, and it tells us that these were in the breastplate of judgment. Well, I believe they bring before us what I mentioned the wisdom of all God's ways. All that was seen on the outside were these beautiful stones with the.
Gravings of the mains in them.
But underneath this was the Urim and Thummim. And that expression lights and perfections, I believe, brings before us the fact that the Lord sees everything now. Sometimes we might want to show a kindness to our children, and we want to do what's best for them. But we make mistakes. We don't always see what's best for them, nor could we ever say.
That were always perfect in our ways. With them, Oh no, how often we fail, but the Lord loves us perfectly. But underneath and there was the lights and perfections, the fact that He knows just exactly what is best for us.
You've probably noticed through the history of Israel that when problems arose in their history that godly kings would.
Called for the Urim and Thummim are for the effort it's sometimes called, and then they would inquire of the Lord.
In situations that came up well, how often we need this too? We're living in a world where we have to face so many different things. We have to face so many questions. And don't we often feel that we don't have the wisdom that we need for those questions? Well, how good it is to know that we're in him Who of God is made unto us? Wisdom and righteousness and sanctification.
00:40:09
And redemption. And James tells us. It says that if we lack wisdom, we can ask of God. And in that very same chapter it says that every good gift and every perfect gift cometh down from above, from the Father of Lights. It's connected, I believe, with this passage the Father of Lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning the perfect gifts. There we have perfection and the Lights.
That.
It tells us that he's the father of light, he sees everything, and so in the chapter where we're told.
To ask for wisdom why we have one who has all this perfect wisdom.
I remember reading a little incident one time about a girl, and she had a problem in her life and so she thought she'd write to this column in the newspaper where you can write in questions and get answers from someone who is wise in the affairs of this world. And so she wrote her problem out and she was going to send it into the newspaper and she left it on her desk at night and went to bed.
And she had an older sister. And she came into the room and she saw this written here, here, whoever it was, Abby or whoever it might be, I don't know what they call it in this country. And and she was going to get advice from the newspaper column. And this sister, her younger sister, was in bed asleep, and she rolled across the ladder. His name shall be called Wonderful.
Counselor, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace.
Well, Needless to say, the girl didn't send the letter in. She found that she had someone wiser to whom she could turn. And all dear young people, and those of us who are older too, we have one who's wiser. It's a it's a common tendency with us all to want someone upon whom we can lean. Even Moses, when they were going through the wilderness. And he knew that the wilderness was a.
Pathless ways just.
How they would go from Egypt to Canaan. Moses didn't exactly know which way they should travel, And so his father-in-law lived in that area, and he came to visit him, and he said to his father-in-law, won't you come with us? And he said, Thou shalt be to us instead of eyes. If you notice, that's in the 10th chapter of Numbers.
And in the chapter before the Lord had distinctly told Moses that.
When he wanted them to move, the cloud would move. And so in other words, Moses would didn't need to have somebody on earth to be instead of eyes. If he looked up every morning, there was the cloud, and whether it was for a day or for a month or for a year, the cloud was to be that which guided them through the wilderness.
But that was a bit of bother, you know, to look up every morning and see if the cloud moved. And then sometimes it might move for a day and then they had to stay in their tents, perhaps for a week. Another time it says that it might be for a year or two years. All this was kind of.
Unsatisfactory to Moses, I suppose. Why would they have to stay for so long in such a place, and only today? Another place ought to be an awful lot easier just to.
Ask his father-in-law to guide them through the wilderness, and that's what he did. And what did the Lord do? All the Lord interfered, and the Lord went before them in a three days journey to search out a resting place for them. And isn't this a lesson for us, beloved brethren? That is, we need to look up to the Lord. And he says, I will guide thee with mine eye. So underneath these, this breastplate with all these names.
Was the Urim and Thummim? And I say again, those kings who really felt dependence upon the Lord, they didn't trust their own wisdom. They turned to the Lord in times of difficulty. And you and I can turn to him too. And when he delays the answer, perhaps it's like the children of Israel. Sometimes it was 2 days, sometimes it was a month, sometimes it was a year. But it says if it was long, they tarried in their tents.
00:45:14
Kept the charge of the Lord and waited for the cloud to move. Oh, how grand it is that we have such a one.
He has all power. He tells us in his word that it was only in 11 days journey from Egypt to Canaan. The Lord could have taken them that way more easily even than Fuldab could, but he didn't take them the shortest way. No, there were lessons to be learned, and there are lessons for us to learn too. So we have a high Priest, the captain of our salvation, bringing us home to glory. And these names were upon the heart of the High Priest before the Lord, continually.
And now just passing to the 33rd verse, it says, And beneath upon the hem of it thou shalt make pomegranates of blue and of purple, and of scarlet round about the hem thereof, and bells of gold between them, round about a golden bell in the pomegranate, a golden bell in a pomegranate upon the hem of the robe round the boat. And it shall be upon Aaron to minister, and his sound shall be heard when he goeth in unto the holy place before the Lord.
And when he cometh out, well, these bells primarily were so that when Aaron went in before the Lord, the children of Israel outside could hear the sound of those bells. I suppose we recall that when madab in a Bay hue went in and offered strange fire, they were smitten, dead. And so these these bells bore testimony to the fact that the priest who was in there offering the blood and incense.
And bearing those names before the Lord, that he was accepted. And they would hear those bells tingling. They know he wouldn't be that he hadn't been smitten dead, but that he was accepted. And so isn't it lovely to know that there is a testimony reaches us from heaven to tell us how that our great high priest has been accepted for us? Yes, it tells us now to appear in the presence of God for us. And we have that precious testimony reaching us that he is there now for us.
But I believe also that there is a practical application for our own lives.
Because for every bell there was a pomegranate.
And in the measure in which we lay hold of what the Lord Jesus has done for us.
We are brought into the fruit and the enjoyment of what he is before us and also I believe that we bear or can bear that kind of fruit in our own lives, just as we mentioned at the beginning, it says.
That we can be in this world as a testimony for the Lord Jesus. He that saith He abideth in him on himself also, so to walk even as he walked.
And so in the Lord Jesus.
There was a pomegranate for every bell that is in the life of the Lord Jesus.
Lie his life thoroughly and perfectly corresponded with what he said, that is.
When they came and asked him who he was, he could say all together that which I said unto you from the beginning.
I'm calling from the new translation altogether that which I said unto you from the beginning.
Oh, how lovely. The Lord Jesus was the one who perfectly manifested in his life what he spoke with his lips. That's why he could say to them. He said, if you don't believe what I say, believe for the works because they were in perfect agreement. His words and his works were perfect. I I couldn't dare to say it to any person. Well, if you don't believe what I say, believe what you see in my life.
Because they say, well, I see failure in your life, but all how the Lord Jesus could say with himself that His words and his works were in perfect agreement. But, brethren, there can be something of this in our lives too. And as we speak to others about the Lord Jesus every time, so to speak, that we ring the bell of testimony, then may the Lord grant that the fruit of the Spirit would correspondingly be seen in our lives.
00:50:01
It's like Gideon when he went out against the army of the Midianites. Why those men that were with him had a trumpet in one hand and a lamp in the other. The trumpet in the one hand would speak of their their spoken testimony, and the lamp would answer to the testimony that we live. We find the same thought in Philippians. It says that she may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God without rebuke.
In the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, that's the life that we live. Then the next verse holding forth the word of life, that's the testimony that we speak. So you see, for every bell there was a pomegranate, I say, in the life of the Lord Jesus. It was perfect. In US it should be more so, and each one of us should be exercised as we bear testimony to the world of what the Lord Jesus has done for us.
As we speak to our friends, they're going to watch us. We're a spectacle to the world and to angels and to men. I've sometimes said, if you want to be in the limelight, confess Christ. You'll be watched far more than anyone else. As soon as you confess Christ, your friends at school, neighbors on the street, those in the office, those in the shop, they'll begin to watch us all home carefully. They'll watch us everything that we say and do. The world sets a very high standard for a Christian.
They know what kind of life we should live. Well, may the Lord grant that these glories that were manifested in the Lord Jesus will be seen in their measure in us too, that the life of Jesus might be manifested in our mortal bodies.
And so they all see those glories of Christ shining out in their measure in US.
Now we have here in the 36th verse, And thou shalt make a plate of pure gold, and grave upon it, like the engravings of the signet, Holiness to the Lord. And thou shalt put it on a blue lace, that it may be upon the mitre. Upon the forefront of the mitre it shall be, and it shall be upon our Aaron's forehead, that Aaron may bear the iniquity of the holy things which the children of Israel shall hallow.
In all their holy gifts.
And it shall be always upon his forehead that they may be accepted before the Lord. Well, this is very precious too. We have spoken in the first part of the chapter how the Lord Jesus is there for us. But I believe in this latter part, as I remark that we have the result in our own lives. We have something of the testimony that should be born in our lives.
And I believe in the measure in which we are occupied with him.
And avail ourselves of his work for us. There will be something of this in our lives.
But now this last instance to me is very interesting and very encouraging. That is the miter which said, holiness to the Lord. It says that he was to bear the iniquity of the holy things which the children of Israel shall hallow in all their holy gifts. Well, to my own heart this is a very wonderful encouragement, sometimes a young Christian will say.
Well, I am afraid to do anything for the Lord, because I am afraid that there would be something of self, something of my own failure, that would come in and spoil it. Well, isn't it nice that this comes in immediately following this about the bells and pomegranates? It tells us here that in everything that a child, one of the children of Israel, offered, there would be something that would not be acceptable.
It says the iniquity of their holy things in all their holy gifts. And if you and I never do anything for the Lord, until we're sure that we can do it without failure, we'll not do anything. We'll never start. And many a dear young Christian gets looking in so much and is so afraid to undertake to do something for fear there will be some mistake in it, for fear there will be something of self.
That he doesn't do anything for the Lord.
00:55:03
Perhaps there might be a person, a young brother, and he's led to give out a him in the meeting, but he's just afraid he might have chosen the wrong one. He's just afraid if he stood up to pray that he might make some expression in his prayer, that wouldn't be acceptable. And so he says, well, I don't think I'll do it. Isn't it nice here to see that there is one who bears the iniquity of our holy things?
And so if when we stood up to pray, there was something of self that came in and intruded, that is, we might get occupied with how well we're doing or what our brethren think about it, and this would be something of self. Would the Lord reject the whole prayer? Would he say that praise is not acceptable because self intruded there? Oh, isn't this lovely? We have one who bears the iniquity of our holy things in all?
Our holy gifts. Perhaps we could connect it with the first chapter of Leviticus.
And there we find about the various burnt offerings. One of them was the offering of turtle doves and young pigeons.
And it tells us that in the offering of the turtle doves and young pigeons that the priest was to take the crop and the feathers and was to put those things in the place of the ashes. And then the rest was offered in sacrifice. And it said it was a sweet savour to the Lord. Did the priest turn to the offer and say, well, I can't accept those because there is something that's unacceptable in them.
Oh no. He just simply took out what was not acceptable. Put it down in the place of the ashes.
And the rest was offered up as a sweet savour to the Lord. How about with the crop? Speak of. Well, I think it would bring before us. Well, we know the bird picks up a lot of things and eats them. They get into the crop, and then finally they go through the digestion. But the crop would be the undigested food, wouldn't it? And we might hear our brethren use some nice expression. We thought it sounded very nice. So we undertake to try to copy our brethren.
And we've never really made it our own. And we think it must be very acceptable because brother, so and so said it, but it's never been made our own. Well, that's not acceptable even though we thought it was. The Lord values what comes from the heart. He values that praise that rises up in our hearts to him. And then what about the feathers? Well, that was the shell. That was that when you see a bird.
Perhaps come into the into the garden. If it's got pretty feathers, you notice it much more. If it didn't have those feathers, it would look like a very ugly thing. But the feathers were all taken pretty as they might be, and thrown down the place of the ashes. And so all that that we do for a display before others and all that, that is just repeating things that we've never made our own. That's the crop and the feathers, but all don't get discouraged.
There is.
In the sacrifice that which the Lord can accept, and if the Lord has laid to him in your heart, if he's laid some little service on your heart to do for him, remember that he's going to pick out of that service. He's going to pick out of that praise that which is acceptable. And this was the work of the high priest. It wasn't the man himself that was able to distinguish. Perhaps he couldn't.
But the high priest, he had that miter holiness to the Lord on his forehead.
And this was connected with bearing the iniquity of their holy things. Oh, how blessed it is to know that we have one who desires the response of our hearts, all brethren, The response of our hearts is precious to him. We might look around and say, well, my heart doesn't respond like others, but the littlest there the Lord values, the Lord values. I look back when my children were small.
And some of the things that they brought to me and thought they were very valuable, they weren't worth very much. But all I valued, the heart that brought them, oh, I valued them. Some of the things I still keep, they have no intrinsic value. The children themselves laugh when they see them, but to me they're precious. They spoke of an expression of love that was in their hearts. And so isn't this precious? The Lord values the desire in your heart to please him. He'll never pass over or miss.
01:00:11
One thing that you and I do for him, he's living up there for us. He's bearing our unworthy names there. They're precious to him. They're a memorial to him, and they're a memorial to us, upon his shoulders of the place that he occupies for us. And now I say again, what response does all this produce in your heart and mind?
Does it make us want to bear fruit for him? Does it make us want to serve him? Does it make us want to praise him, always, say well we fail so much.
All He's up there, and when we fail, only what is acceptable reaches the ear of God. But all how good it is to know that He is looking in each of our lives for that response to His wondrous love. Oh, may he increase the measure, May God grant that we may value more His wondrous grace, and that our hearts and lives may show our appreciation to Him.
For all that he has done for us.
Shall we sing #2 in the appendix?

We Sing together #141.
In deep eternal counsel, before the world was made, before its deep foundations on nothingness were laid, God purposed us for blessing, and chose us in His Son to Him to be conformed. When here our course was run in presence, blessed acceptance in Him who came to die.
In him who now is seated at thy right hand on high in grace, which is unchanging, we stand from day-to-day, and prove the boundless mercies which strew our Pilgrim way, 141.
And Epicona.

Make more love.
May fall asleep.
On it.
I'd like you to turn with me, please, this afternoon to the official, to the Ephesians.
Chapter 2.
I seem to find it exceptionally hard to open the Epistle to the Ephesians and to start anywhere except chapter one, verse one. It all seems so beautiful to my soul that it's hard to pass by any of these wonderful verses. But shall we begin with chapter 2 and verse?
19.
Now, therefore.
Ye are no more strangers and foreigners.
But fellow citizens with the Saints and of a household of God.
And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone, in whom all the buildings fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple.
In the Lord, in whom ye also are builded together.
For inhabitation of God through the spirit.
Chapter 4 verse one.
I therefore the prisoner of the Lord beseech you that he walked worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, with all lowliness and meekness, with long-suffering or bearing one another in love.
Endeavoring to keep the unity of a spirit in the bond of peace, there is one body and one spirit, even as you are called in one hope of your calling, 1 Lord, one faith, one Baptism, one God, and Father of all who is above all and through all, and in you all.
Back to chapter 2, verse 19.
Now, therefore.
00:05:00
Just as soon as we read those words, beloved, we are made to feel.
That there is a portion for our hearts mouth. I know that's not new to anyone, but it has been a good deal on my heart lately that many of us are in danger of looking upon Christianity as that wonderful truth by which our poor, lost, guilty souls have been delivered from the burden of our sins.
We know that matter is settled, and we know that when our journey here is over, that we're going to spend eternity with the Lord Jesus Christ in glory.
But to me there is a wonderful thought in this language now, therefore, and I believe that that's one part of Christianity that we very, very often fail to enter into and to enjoy as we should.
That the purpose of God's wonderful love toward us.
Was not simply to rescue you and me from our guilt, and from the penalty of that guilt, not simply to find for us a corner up there in heaven, but in order that the heart of God might find its delight in your companionship and in mine.
So we read here now, therefore, you are no more strangers.
And foreigners? That might sound like strange language at first.
Because we have been quite often reminded that we are strangers and pilgrims.
But I believe there is a matter referred to here as this.
This epistle was written to the Ephesians. They were idolaters. They had their idol, Diana of the Ephesians, whom they worshipped, and there came to their community one day a man who proclaimed to them the amazing news of a God in heaven who loved them.
And who had sent the Lord Jesus Christ, his beloved Son, to pay?
Redemptions Price Well, until that time the only citizenship they knew anything about was that which bound them to this earth. And that was true of you and me, was it not? There was a time in your life, and there was in mine, when the only home and citizenship with which we were acquainted was that which had to do with our time here in this world.
The only citizenship we knew. And as far as heaven was concerned, we were strangers to all that. We weren't. Like the Ephesians, we weren't ignorant of it. We had heard about it.
And I wonder if there could be anyone here this afternoon who has heard about it. And you know there is a place called heaven. You don't deny the fact you know there is a God up there whom you someday must meet. You're well aware of that.
You know, too, that that God, whom you must meet someday, sent his beloved Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, to die on the cross for sinners. But can we all go one step further and say, and I know, that my sins are washed away in the precious blood of the Lord Jesus Christ.
I know that when I leave this world, I'm going to spend eternity with the Lord Jesus.
It isn't my intention to lengthen this out, but I would like to tell you a little story of.
A young man I visited in the hospital in Ottawa a long time ago. I used to work for a drug store, and I delivered messages to that hospital. It was the pearly home where incurable people spent their days. And this chap, His name was Moses. He had been there since his very earliest boyhood, fearfully afflicted and his whole body distorted.
00:10:07
I felt very sorry for Moses and I used to speak to him about the Lord Jesus.
And one day, I said to him, Moses, when you leave the pearly home, where do you expect to go?
Well, he said.
I I expect to go to heaven. I'm almost, but not quite sure about it. So I read to him this wonderful language that all of us have read and enjoyed before John 524 Verily, verily, I say unto you.
He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that set me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation, but is passed from death unto life. Moses listened very eagerly. I said, Do you believe that? He said, Yes, I do. And when you leave this pearly home, where will you go?
I'm almost, but not quite sure that I'll be in heaven. Oh, I said, Moses, do you mean that you're almost but not quite sure that God tells the truth? Dear Moses, I could see that he looked rather offended. So I went away and left him, and about a week or two later I was back in again and I went to call on Moses.
And I thought something had happened.
I said, Moses, where do you expect to go? And you leave the pearly home, he said. I'm sure.
That I'm going home to heaven to be with the Lord Jesus.
I told you I was 16 at that time, and that was quite a while ago. Not very long ago, I went back with my wife and family and walked into the ward where Moses used to lie, but his bed was empty.
I said to the nurse, where is Moses? All she said. He's out in his wheelchair, out in the lawn. He couldn't even sit up there at the wheelchair, straight out. But I went out there, and poor dear Moses, he could scarcely turn his poor twisted head. But as soon as he saw me, his face lighted up with such a wonderful smile. I hadn't seen him in all those years, and he was so glad to see me, and I to see him. I said Moses.
We don't have long to stay, but perhaps we could sing a little hymn together. What would you like to sing? He said. Oh, could you please sing that hymn? Tell me the old old story of Jesus and his love. We sang that human dear Moses joined in it with us.
And I just want to introduce this thought this afternoon because it will mean nothing to you unless you know the Lord Jesus.
I say no, the Lord Jesus as your savior.
And when you read this word now, therefore, we are no more strangers and foreigners.
Can you look up from those words and say yes, thank God it's true. I can look up now to heaven and know that I'm not a stranger there. I'm not a foreigner there. I belong there. I'm only a stranger here.
If we were to turn to the 4th chapter of Revelation, you'd find there I saw four and 20 seats, and on the seats 4 and 20 elders. That's a little bit unusual, is it not? If I entered a room and saw 24 people sitting there, I think I would mention the people 1St. And perhaps if I mentioned the chairs at all, I'd mention them in second place. Why does the scripture say 4 and 20 seats?
And on the seats, 4 and 20 elders. The seats were there long before they were occupied. There's one up there for me. Is there one up there for you? It's wonderful to be able to speak with certainty about this matter. There will be no vacant seats up there, and there will be no one looking for a seat. There's one for each and everyone who accepts the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior.
And so this language Now, therefore you are no more strangers and foreigners.
00:15:02
Causes us to look up and realize that even now, beloved brethren and sisters in Christ, we actually have a relationship and a citizenship with heaven itself. For the life which I possess as I stand here is a life.
That has its source from heaven.
Fellow citizens with the Saints, isn't that wonderful language? I think some of us who were brought up under the sound of this book become rather accustomed to this language. And we of course hear one another addressed as Saints. And we know that we are fellow citizens with the Saints. We've heard it long ago.
But perhaps we fail to realize the marvel and the beauty and the choice behind it all.
And the cost behind it? God wanted your company.
But he could not have your company, nor mine, as we were in our poor, fallen, ruined condition.
I heard it mentioned at a conference in Saint Louis a good many years ago.
That such was God's affection toward his beloved eternal Son, That in a past eternity God looked upon that Son and said, when I have a family, I want them all to be just like my son.
All just like my son, Yes, beloved, you and I are going to be to the eternal delight and joy and satisfaction of the heart of God the Father.
For he will have a roundabout himself in the glory forever, a redeemed family, everyone of whom will be eternally conformed to his own beloved Son. But the thought in my heart is this, that these things need not be looked upon as something that we are awaiting. The glorious eternal reality of it is yet before us.
But even now, we are fellow citizens with the Saints.
What does that mean to our hearts? I hope it means more than simply a text in the word of God.
But I am sure you and I have been made to realize it as we travel about.
Some of you may have heard mention of.
The trip that I took a couple of years ago among some of the Lord's people rather far away.
And I remember yet what a bewildering thing it was to the travel agent who was trying to arrange this journey for me.
I asked him to please make out my tickets and it read to.
Chicago, San Francisco, Hawaii, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Sandakan, Singapore.
Colombo, Bombay, Tehran, Jerusalem.
Athens, Rome, Paris, London and back home to Canada. Well, you know, when the man began to make it out, he rubbed his hands in great delight. He was quite pleased with my purpose.
But he wasn't satisfied after he'd made us a big long ticket and told me the amount of it. He said now I'd be glad to arrange your accommodation in San Francisco. Well, I said I have Christian friends in San Francisco that I know will be meeting me there, so you don't need to take care of that. Well, now you're going to spend a weekend in Hawaii? Well, I said I have Christian friends in Hawaii that I know will be meeting me there.
And I won't be needing accommodation. But you're spending a month in Japan. And I said yes, but I have friends all over Japan. Well, he knew I'd never been away that far before and he gave me a strange look. He said there's a nice new Hilton Hotel in Hong Kong. I said thank you. I have Christian friends in Hong Kong too. He didn't follow me any further on. He gave up.
And you know, I must admit, beloved brethren, that I came away from that place realizing in a practical way.
What I had long known that by the matchless, wonderful grace of God.
00:20:07
I was a fellow citizen in that which knew no bounds of nationality or color.
A fellow citizen with the Saints and by the grace of God, beloved. That's a wonderful citizenship, and it exists right now. Oh, I love to look into your faces and realize that you and I are together, fellow citizens, in that wonderful relationship that knits us together.
As chosen in him, and that before the foundation of the world.
Perhaps it sounds a little interesting to speak of it in connection with faraway lands, and how thrilling it is to find the truth of it when you land in a place where you never set foot before and find yourself so warmly welcomed. But beloved brethren, could I just suggest that this also applies to my home assembly in Smith Falls?
And to your home assembly, be it Buena Park.
Burbank, Los Angeles Wherever you may come from, this matter of being a fellow citizen with the Saints is not something that links you in love with brethren that are far away, but it links you in relationship and love with the brethren who sit beside you and across from you in your own home assembly. I think sometimes we're just a little inclined to apply it rather far away from home.
Than we are right at home. At least, if you'll permit me to take this for myself, I know that I need to remember this as applying to the very brethren and sisters with whom I am gathered by the grace of God at home.
We speak, you know, of charity, divine love, and we speak of it as being something which, by the grace of God, exists among the Lord's people. And we're so thankful for it.
But I'll never forget a discussion on this matter that was taking place at Hamilton when I was present a number of years ago.
Dear Brother, Gill was there, and the discussion had reached the point where I think we were beginning to pat ourselves on the back a little bit.
As though we had done a pretty good job of loving one another, and the charity was pretty generally.
A well exercised matter. Brother Gil was sitting there silently, but I could just sense that something was going to come from him at any moment, and it did. I wouldn't imitate the way he said it, but I remember word for word what he said. It just came out in his own peculiar style and I just didn't miss a word of it.
He suddenly pointed his finger solemnly, And he said, Brethren, the measure of divine love operative within the soul, can be judged by the affection you bear toward the most ugly and cantankerous brother within the sphere of your acquaintance.
There was quite a long silence after he said that, but I believe that's true, and I'm going to say it over again. The measure of divine love operative within the soul can be judged by the affection you bear toward the most ugly and cantankerous brother within the sphere of your acquaintance. It's so easy to love some brothers and sisters. We get along with them nicely, and they agree with us on most things.
But others, perhaps, are not of that sort, and we're just rather inclined to.
Leave them out of the matter when we're considering this, fellow citizens with the Saints.
But all beloved, let us remember this, that God, in wondrous, matchless grace chose this brother and back one, and this sister and that one have gathered us together by wondrous love and grace. And May God grant that we shall not forget this wonderful reality as we gather thus together.
Fellow citizens with the Saints and of the household of God isn't this marvelous language. This is by actual choice. We find in chapter one, the Eternal Council of His loving heart.
00:25:07
So repeatedly spoken of as it concerns you and me.
Chosen in him before the foundation of the world, accepted in the beloved.
May I just pause to make a little comment about that statement accepted in the beloved?
Our English words don't always convey just the meaning that they might. And I don't want to give any impression whatever that I'm a scholar because I am by no stretch of the imagination such. But it's not difficult to look up some of these words and find their meaning and find where else they are used in scripture and the word translated accepted in that particular passage in Ephesians 1.
Is only used in one other place, in all the word of God.
And that is where Mary is addressed by the Angel in connection with a wonderful promise of her Holy Son, Jesus. Hail thou that art highly favored. That's the word that is translated accepted.
Highly favored, and it's only used twice in the word of God.
It means this, beloved, that as God looks at you and me this very afternoon.
He sees you, and he sees me in that wonderful place of favor in which his beloved Son has ever stood. And so when I read this statement now, therefore, you are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the Satan of the household of God. I just cry to the Lord that it may convey to our hearts.
And produce in our lives that which he intends.
23 years ago, when I was married and brought my dear wife home from Des Moines to Canada, we had an example of this citizenship. As we cross the border, the immigration officials came through with their usual questions and they asked my wife, among other things, where are you going?
Ottawa, Canada How long do you expect to stay there?
Well, she smiled and said I expect to live there. We've just been married. Well, he made a few other comments which I needn't repeat, but he said congratulations, you're now a Canadian citizen and a British subject.
Whilst he said what about my American citizenship? He said you remain an American citizen unless you cast a vote in Canada, but if you cast one vote in Canada?
You immediately lose and deny your American citizenship. She's still an American citizen, by the way, and I feel beloved brethren, that that.
Is a principle that you and I can well bear in mind? Is it or is it not an honor and a privilege and a joy to be numbered among the fellow citizens of the Saints and of the household of God? I stand here this afternoon with an overflowing heart of Thanksgiving, that my citizenship by choice and at the cost of the Savior's precious blood.
My citizenship is up there.
I'm no more a stranger and a foreigner to that which is heavenly.
But I am, according to the language of Scripture, a stranger and a Pilgrim down here. Now there remains the practical carrying out of this in our lives. And you and I, each one of us, myself most certainly included, each one of us knows in our own hearts how very, very easy it is for us to nod our heads and recognize that this statement is true and wonderful.
And then just to go about our daily lives and purposes as though we were citizens of this world and we're going to be here yet a long time.
And are built upon the foundation of the Apostles and prophets.
Jesus Christ himself, being the chief cornerstone in whom all the buildings fitly framed together, groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord.
00:30:11
What a marvelous purpose is in His heart, beloved. This, I believe, is that which yet lies ahead, The glorious, eternal purpose of His loving heart centered around His beloved Son and you and me.
Chosen by matchless grace to be members of the body of Christ, living stones in the Church of God, part of the very bride of Christ for all eternity. And God looks down upon this scene. God looks into our very hearts.
And he knows whether these wondrous truths mean anything to us or not.
Oh, it's such a cost. He has revealed his loving heart and his eternal purpose, and I feel so rebuked as I read about it. I've sometimes presented it to my own heart like this. Suppose I had a special and secret purpose that concerns my dear children, and at very, very great cost to myself, I brought this plan to its final completion.
And I had this wonderful secret that had taken years of preparation and planning and cost, and it concerns something that I'm just sure will be such a delight to my dear children.
So I call my children together and I say, Father has something to tell you. Will you come and listen? So they sit down and I begin to reveal to my dear children this which has been on my heart for so long.
This which I know will fill them with delight, and I unfold the purpose of my heart. And I tell them of how I have centered all this purpose around the happiness of my dear children. And I let them know something of what it's cost me in order to formulate these plans and to fulfill them, and when I'm all done, having told them everything.
They say, is that all? Daddy, can we go out to play again? How would I feel? How would I feel? Now, beloved, in the word of God, we reap of the eternal purpose of God's loving heart, and it concerns you. And we read what it cost him to fulfill that purpose, and it's centered in you and his beloved Son. We open this book and we find it.
Displayed before us.
And having rid of it, we close our Bibles and what do we do?
Now we go back about our activities as though the most important thing in all the world were those plans that we had for Monday and for Tuesday and for Wednesday. Now it's necessary, beloved, that we have these purposes and plans. I don't want to appear to be a fanatic in these matters. I have these matters to face myself. We have a family to bring up, and there are these questions concerning their upbringing and their education.
But all dear Saints of God, I hope the paramount in all these matters there will ever be in our hearts the remembrance that he chose us, that we should be fellow citizens with the Saints and of the household of God. And with this wonderful reality lies before us, framed together under one holy temple in the Lord, and then this last verse.
In whom ye also are builded together.
For inhabitation of God through the Spirit I believe in any distinction could be made of this latter verse refers to that which is now our privilege and His. For I believe it is the delight of God's heart now, not only in the future, but now that you and I should have a joy of display of entering into that which we're going to see and share in all its fullness.
In a coming day, enter into it now.
We have made mention recently of how frequently in the word of God we have such thoughts.
I believe it was remarked a while ago that when John was here on earth.
00:35:07
He recorded this statement. We beheld his glory, the glorious of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. Wasn't that a marvelous experience and privilege? Perhaps reading about it, we might look back, listen, the little and covet don't privilege and end up by saying that. Of course I wasn't here when the Lord Jesus was here, so I couldn't share in that. But then we turned to the 17th chapter of John, and we found the Lord Jesus uttering these words.
Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am that they may.
Behold my glory.
Oh, I say. I wasn't here when Dawn was here.
But I'm going to behold that glory, I am going to behold in that coming day when together with the redeemed, we stand in His glorious presence. But this is the thought that speaks to my heart that would leave me looking back and thinking of what I missed by not being here when John was here. It would leave me looking ahead and thinking of that which is yet to be realized. But what about the Presence?
Oh, if we were to turn to 2nd Corinthians 3, we'd find there we all, we all. Is this true? We all, with open face, beholding us in a glass the glory of the Lord.
Are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord. To whom does this apply and when does it apply?
Beloved we all, is there anyone of us excused from it? Do we have any lawful reason for not finding our name in that verse?
Beholding the glory of the Lord are changed into the same image. That's not a matter of looking back, or even of looking ahead. That's a matter of our present experience. And it's your privilege, and it's mine and the measure in which it is true of us.
Is a blessing to others.
This I don't believe requires gift, does it?
It doesn't require great intelligence, and I believe that in many an assembly.
A great deal of blessing flows from those who behold, the glory of the Lord. Perhaps they're not those whose voices are heard very often in the meeting, but their testimony and their joy is such an encouragement to others.
In the first chapter of the Song of Solomon, we read Draw Me.
We will run after thee. Isn't that interesting? Draw me. That's personal. That's individual. And what happens? We will run after thee up and down the roads, if you.
Are occupied with the Lord Jesus, and following him. It will be a great blessing to others in the assembly. Draw me, We will run after thee.
We dare not hide behind our lack of gift. We have Christ.
With whom we can be occupied, and the result of such occupation will be blessing to others. Now the 4th chapter. For I believe the exhortation in chapter 4 is connected with the wonderful revelation of truth that we have in chapter 2.
In chapter two we have seen the wonderful citizenship that is ours, the wonderful household to which we belong, the wonderful habitation which is now to be displayed here, and the wonderful and holy temple in the Lord which yet lies in the future. And now we read, I therefore the prisoner of the Lord beseech you.
I feel so out of place when I stand here and read these words.
Who wrote them?
Paul, the aged prisoner, wrote these words.
And I expect he was in chains when he wrote them.
00:40:02
Perhaps you'll know what I mean when I say how out of place I feel.
For as I read them my picture the Apostle Paul who wrote them.
Standing here.
In his chains and addressing you, beloved brethren, in these words.
I hope it's not out of place to do that, but I'd like you to picture the Apostle Paul standing here.
That faithful beloved servant of God.
The chains are yet on him, and he stands here before you, beloved brethren in California, And he says, I beseech you, therefore, brethren, wouldn't it touch our hearts?
This comes from the very heart of the Lord Jesus, through the pen of the Apostle Paul, and all I trust it may speak to our hearts.
God, never, never, never, never simply lays a demand upon us because he is God and has the right to do so.
I mean, as His children, I believe that God reveals the love and the purpose of His heart, brings us into a place of nearness and relationship which could not be more glorious, and then beseeched and exhorts on the ground of that wondrous blessing which He has poured out upon us. May I also just pass on here a practical word which was by no means on my heart when I read this chapter.
May I simply suggest this as a pattern which we as fathers could well bear in mind?
Toward our dear children.
God has many, many, many exhortations, and firm ones who they are in the word of God, addressed to those who are His own beloved children. But you will not find those exhortations died directed toward us simply because the authority of God demands it. You will find that God's loving heart is poured out to its fullest extent and His love revealed till we can just feel those arms around about us.
And then when God puts before us that which is pleasing to him.
The very basis of obedience is the loving place of relationship and affection into which we have been brought.
May I just suggest this as a pattern in the word of God that we as fathers could well bear in mind?
I'm going to have to make a kind of confession about this in order to illustrate it.
I used to get a lot of, shall I say, spankings. That's the word my dad used.
And I know I deserve them. And they were some of them very severe. I can remember them and the consequences to this day.
And when this chastisement would be laid upon me in its severest form, I'll tell you exactly what I used to do. I'd go up to my room. I'd shut the door, and I would try to cultivate a real good case of the post. I would try to persuade myself that my dad didn't love me at all, and that he found great pleasure in punishing me, and that he enjoyed seeing me suffer.
And I never succeeded. Do you know why?
Because over all those wrecked feelings was the memory of how much he loved me. And I never succeeded in getting very far and pouting against him because I knew he loved me so much. Dear fathers, we have that pattern in his book. God loves you and God has revealed His love. He couldn't reveal it more than he has.
And now, having brought us before him as his children, he exhorts us.
He warns us, he pleads with us, but all on the basis of the relationship which cost him so much.
To bring into being, and I think as fathers, we might try to remember that, to show affection and lots of it, toward our dear children from the days of their infancy on up. I don't know when it should be discontinued. I don't think it ever should be discontinued, so that when reproof and punishment is necessary, the memory of that love will be a blessing in it.
00:45:05
I therefore the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation, wherewith your call again I'm remarked that this, I believe, is connected with the latter part of chapter 2, that vocation beloved, that wonderful relationship with heaven, and with him who is there that is my vocation.
All the world thinks a great deal about what they call vocation, and they bow and scrape to a man who has a lot of initials after his name.
But they don't pay much heed to the man who didn't perhaps get along quite so far. I don't speak disparagingly of these attainments.
In fact, there was a dear brother back home who encouraged me to get initials after my name. I think I should tell you about him.
His name was Mr. RJ Watson and I know there's someone here that remembers him pretty well.
He was a dear old Irish brother and you were just never quite sure what he was going to say.
And when I was 21, after having been at work for four years, I felt, I think I can say, the Lord directing me to go back to school for further studies in connection with the work that I took up later.
And his dear old brother was, I think, quite concerned about it. He was a stone Mason and he came to me after meeting just before I laughed and he said Albert.
I hear you're going away to school in Toronto.
I hung my head. I thought I was in for it and I said yes, Brother Watson, I suppose you'll be coming back with some of those letters after your name.
I don't think so, Brother Watson. Well, I hope you do, he said.
I said, what do you mean? He said. I hope you come home with OMGB after your name.
I said I never heard that before. What's that? He said. You'll have to read the book of Daniel, Albert. When I went home and read the Book of Daniel, and I think I found that degree there, Daniel possessed it. Oh, man, greatly beloved, that's what.
That's what that dear old brother coveted for me, and I know he prayed for me.
Dear brethren, pray for the young people. It's hard for them. It's difficult for them and for their parents. Pray for them that if they are exposed to these things, that might cause them to forget the vocation wherewith we are called, that they may come through it all with OM GB after their name.
That they may do as Daniel did, and stand true and faithful to the vocation wherewith we are called.
With all loneliness and meekness, with long-suffering forbearing one another in love, that used to be needed when this epistle was written, but it's really not needed anymore, is it?
I think it is. In fact, I know it is, isn't it?
With all lowliness and meekness, with long-suffering forbearing one another in love, oh brethren, it seems to me that the very fact that we have been brought so close together, we've been brought together into the ties of family relationship.
Everywhere I go, I find those who are my beloved brothers and sisters in Christ.
And the barn seems so sweet, and so precious, and so real and so wonderful. But the Lord knows.
That there's very closeness brings with it the need of loneliness and meekness and long-suffering and forbearing in love.
Again, I mentioned that this is particularly needful in connection with our home assembly.
From which we come, where we rub shoulders with the same beloved brothers and sisters so constantly.
And we begin to find out about one another, that which, if we were occupied with it, would be perhaps the occasion of difficulty. But I believe that we can look at one another and seek to seek Christ in one another, and walk in loneliness and meekness.
00:50:00
And long-suffering and forbearing and love.
Now lowliness and meekness, I have heard, defined as one who would neither give offence nor take offence.
And I believe that's a very good description and one which I'm sure we might all prayerfully covet.
But might I just add a little caution to such a definition?
You remember when the Lord Jesus was here?
After having spoken faithfully, the scripture says from that hour many of his disciples were went back and walked no more with him. They were offended at him.
Had the Lord showed any lack of loneliness or of meekness?
Thou beloved, in him there was that perfect blending of faithfulness and meekness.
Vindication of God's glory and of loneliness and of love. And I feel that if you or I have before us as an object any one of these things which we've been reading about, we're going to be lopsided believers. We must have Christ and Christ alone before us. And then when faithfulness is called for, it will be displayed.
But it will be displayed, perhaps with a heart that weeps.
Endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
Our time is about up, but I would like to try to illustrate this verse, for I believe it's incumbent upon us to remember this all the more in the day when I feel that these things are treated as though they were of no importance at all.
A man feels that he's perfectly entitled to look around and make whatever choice he wishes as regards Christian fellowship while he's here in this world.
But this verse exhorts us from the heart of God. It exhorts us endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
The illustration has been used before, but suppose if you wish.
That a man has ten sons, and all those ten sons work and play together in the most unusual harmony. They never argue, they never disagree. They always get along happily and pleasantly together. And all the neighbors notice it and they comment, what a wonderful family that is.
We've never heard them say an unkind word. They're always together.
One day those ten sons are out in the garden and father comes to the door and he says boys please come in the father.
Well, after a little pause, three of those boys turn and start toward the door to come in, and the other seven turned toward their brothers and they say, where are you going?
Well, we're going into father. You mean you're turning your back on us and we're your real brothers. You don't love us very much. You're going to break up the family. What will a neighbor say after all these years we've been together, and now you three are going to turn your back on us and walk out on us and break up the unity and the harmony of the family. How does that sound to you? Would it be all right if those three turned around and said, well, I guess you're right, we better stay here so that we can all be together. Would that be love?
I don't believe it would. It would be encouraging them in disobedience. I would expect them to turn and say, But did you not hear Father call? If we are to remain together, let us all obey, Father. I'll beloved, I have here, and you have with you the word of God.
The very heart of God revealed that I believe. In this book we find.
The wonderful privilege of expressing this oneness, of displaying, as we were privileged to do this morning, by being gathered around the person of the Lord Jesus Christ, owning no other name than his. I believe that at least in one area we were by the grace of God we say it, endeavoring to keep and to display the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
00:55:08
In the bond of peace, I believe it's ever necessary for us to maintain and to defend that which obedience to the Word of God would call for.
But to do so in the bond of peace, the Lord knows how.
Harsh our poor hearts are sometimes we look around at our beloved brethren who are so loving, so gentle, so patient, and perhaps we are inclined to covet that disposition that we think they possess by nature. But I don't believe we really ought to do that.
It has, I know again been mentioned before concerning Dear John.
That one who is always singled out as being so patient and so loving and so gentle.
And he stands out among the disciples as being the most patient and loving of the mall. And I've heard comments about, oh, how I would love to have John's patient, loving disposition. But you remember that when the Lord picked up John, he called him a most unusual name.
Born urges, which means a son of Thunder.
I won't attempt to define that word, you can just take it as it sounds.
To my soul it means that at least it hints that John by nature was a son of Thunder. Whatever that might mean, I leave to you. But I believe that what we see displayed in the pathway of John was a reflection of the gentleness.
And loveliness of Christ seen in one who leaned on his bosom. Who was it that said, Wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven and consume them? Was that Peter? That was John. I think that was a little of the sun of Thunder showing out.
And to me it has been just a considerable rebuke to think that we look around at others, and perhaps find ourselves coveting their disposition and excusing our own. But dear Saints of God you and I have within us.
The very life and nature of Him who walked through this pathway to the glory of God, without spot or stain. And in the measure in which we lean on his bosom, in the measure in which were occupied with Him, what will happen that will be displayed, beloved brethren, in our personal lives, in our home and family lives, and in our assembly life too?
Is that what is being displayed by us?
There in our personal life.
Is there?
As husband and father in the home, or as wife and mother in the home, the display of that which you and I know would be displayed if we were leaning on his bosom, and as we come together, as gathered to the precious name of the Lord Jesus Christ with our beloved brethren.
Is there displayed there also that which we would love the Lord to see.
Would we love the Lord to know the attitude of our hearts? You know, a brother came to my father one day and he said brother, hey ho, the brethren don't understand me.
My father said. Do you wish they did? Would you want them to? I wouldn't, Brethren, I'm glad you don't understand me.
All I can say is this, beloved, that if you and I we're in his presence and leaned on his bosom and walked with him, there would be harmony in our lives, in our homes, and in our assemblies, to the glory of God. Oh, may we by the matchless grace of God be found, each applying this right here to our own hearts. Let us never, never, never sit in meetings and say, I'm glad, brother, so and so is here to hear this.
Let us take it to our own hearts, each and everyone of us, and remember before God that His loving heart had infinite cost, has brought you and me so near to his heart that we could not be near, not only individually, but fellow citizens, with the Satan of the household of God. I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercy. I beseech you therefore, brethren, that you walk worthy of the vocation.
01:00:20
Well, with your calls and all loneliness and meekness, with long-suffering for bearing one another in love, how we just look to the Lord in prayer.
And always, as my little word and soul is. Why, yes, but all the difference they do make, no one could ever guess, say.
An old **** to everything that's wrong and why yes to the Savior Jesus all day.
Long to everyone, my Savior says, Will you this very day come unto me, and you will be my very own. Always say.
Hey, no to everything that's wrong and the YES to the Savior Jesus all day long.
Don't forget there's a house to let the Father's house on high. And don't forget there's a key to get long before you die. Faith in Christ will unlock the door. You shall have a mansion free forevermore. But don't forget there's a key to get.
Long before you die.

Hymn #4.
Ere God had built the mountains or raised the fruitful hills before he filled the fountains that feed the running rills. In thee from everlasting the wonderful I am found pleasures never wasting, And wisdom is thy name #4.
God has built all the light.
On the father's land.
Why not?
I'd like to look first of all at a verse in Job Chapter 11.
Job Chapter 11 and verse 7.
Canst thou, by searching, find out God? Canst thou find out the Almighty unto perfection? It is high as heaven? What canst thou do? Deeper than hell or Hades? What canst thou know?
And now in John chapter one.
John's Gospel chapter one and verse 18.
No man has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son which is in the bosom of the Father, he has declared him.
Well, dear young people, I have it on my heart to seek to speak a little this afternoon.
About the wonderful privilege that we have in knowing God who has revealed himself to us.
Through his word, I believe that we don't value sufficiently the wonderful treasure that we have in this book.
We're living in days when men are making great advancements in education and science.
When they're seeking and God is allowing them to find out much about this universe.
But in doing so, they are losing if they ever had it.
And knowledge of God they are getting farther and farther away from him.
And while I don't have anything to say against what man may discover that might be made useful in connection with his life here upon the earth, I say that if these things are a hindrance to the knowledge of God, and as how he has revealed himself in and through his Word, by then they're going to rob you of that which is the greatest blessing you can possibly have. And that is the knowledge of God and the enjoyment of His heart and of his company.
00:05:30
And I was thinking of this passage in Job 711. Rather canst thou by searching, find out, God, millions of dollars are being spent in which men are trying to find out something about how this world came into being.
They're trying to get some knowledge of these things. But all how wonderful that God has revealed himself. Can man, by searching, find out God? Is it possible, with all his research and with all he is doing to get by this, the knowledge of God? It says that it's high as the heavens. What canst thou do? It is deep as Haiti, deeper than Hades. What canst thou know?
That is, in the knowledge that man may gain, it will not make known to him.
The person of the one who created it. I might have a beautiful piece of furniture. I can see the grand handiwork of the person who made it. But I won't know anything about his character unless he makes himself known to me. I don't know whether the man who made that piece of furniture was a kind man or an unkind man. I don't know whether he was good to his wife and family by looking at the furniture. I need to be introduced to him. I need to have some testimony about him.
Before I can really know his character, and so wouldn't it be foolish if I wanted to know him?
To examine the furniture carefully, to study it all out, and yet not to really get to know him.
But if this man makes himself known, then I can know something about his character. And God, in his wondrous love and grace, has been pleased to make himself known. Because man didn't know him. Because he had wandered away from him, Because sin had come in and become a barrier between man and God. Wonder of wonders, the God who made everything.
Came down into this world, went to the cross of Calvary, in order that he might be made known. It says the only begotten son which is in the bosom of the Father. He hath declared him God has made himself known, and he has made himself known. That you and I might know all this in his heart, as we read yesterday in John 17, our brother brought it before us.
And this is life eternal, that they might know thee, the only true God.
And Jesus Christ, whom thou ascent? Oh, what a privilege we have.
That we can sit in these seats and not look around upon this world with the agnosticism or atheism of the day in which we live, But to know that the one who made all these things has been pleased to reveal himself to us, and that we can say that we know the Creator, we know him as one who loved us and who sent his son to die for us on Calvary's cross. I say that's the most marvelous thing.
Well, I was thinking of this in three different connections, and first of all connection with creation, and then in connection with God's ways, and then in connection with His word, because I believe that God speaks to man in those three different ways. Someone has said that He has three books by which He has made himself known, and that is in creation, a partial revelation.
In his ways with man, by which he seeks to draw him to himself, and then above all through his word which explains to us His creation, which brings before us the purpose of His ways, and which reveals to us all that's in his heart. Well, I'd like to look first of all at Proverbs chapter 8.
00:10:05
Proverbs, Chapter 8.
22nd verse The Lord possessed me in the beginning of His way, before His works of old. I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning or ever the earth was. Well. Let us go down to the 27th verse. When He prepared the heavens. I was there when He set a compass upon the face of the deep.
Then the 30th verse. Then I was by him as one brought up with him.
And I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him.
Rejoicing in the habitable part of his earth, and my delights were with the sons of man, the 34th verse. Blessed is the man that heareth me watching daily at my gates, waiting at the pulse of my doors, for whoso findeth me findeth life and shall obtain favorite of the Lord. Well, here we see a most marvelous thing that when these.
This world the very.
Universe in which we live was created. What was God thinking about all the marvel of all marvels is that his delights?
Where with the sons of man, and away back when God began the creation.
Then he had a purpose in it, and that purpose was your blessing and mine. Well, just think of man as spending so much money in trying to find out how this world came and teaching all kinds of things as to how it came into being. When God tells us that when he made these things, he was making them for us. Just think of a home and you go into that home and you admire all the workmanship in it.
And you try to figure out who the man was that built it and what his purpose was in building it. And then in a months time you find out that that person who built that house had a personal interest in you. And that when he built that house, as he drove in every nail and as he put every piece in the house, he was thinking of the happiness that you were going to have when you possessed it. Wouldn't that change your thoughts about the house altogether?
Well now, dear friends and dear young people, as you go to school, the attempt is made by the enemy of your soul to rob you of the blessedness of who the Creator is. And by occupying you with all these things, to hide from your view this wonderful fact that God, the Creator of all, had an interest in you and was thinking about you, and knew that you were going to be sitting in the Glendale Civic Auditorium.
And he wanted to fill your heart with rejoicing and to make you know that the whole purpose of the sunshine and all the wonderful things that were in this world was that he was interested in you.
He cared for you, he was concerned about you, and he gave you a body so that you could enjoy all these things. Can't you see that the whole idea of robbing you of the true knowledge of God is to rob you of this, which is the secret of enjoyment in your soul? Men are complaining today that the trouble with society is that in all the learning that they're getting.
That no one is having a satisfied heart and everybody has a feeling of loneliness.
And their friends. I'll tell you why. Because it is impossible with all your.
Friendships and with all the people of this world to really find that which satisfies your heart. Because it's impossible in a world like this to find in human companionship that which really satisfies apart from God. It's impossible. Nor is it possible in all the things that are here to find that which will really satisfy. And so God makes himself known as the Creator, and in Genesis one He doesn't go into a great deal of detail.
But He tells us enough that we would see that which would give us some knowledge about His creation. How that away back in a time that we're not told He He created the heavens and the earth. That was what we might call the original creation. How that it became spoiled in some way in the second verse, and then how in six days God fixed it up and made it a suitable dwelling place for man.
00:15:23
And placed Adam and Eve at the head of it, intending that Adam and Eve under him.
And in the enjoyment of him might possess all these wonderful things that he had prepared for them.
But what did Satan do? While Satan came into the scene and he got the ear of Adam and Eve, he got them to listen to him. He suggested to them that God wasn't quite as good as they thought he was, and that he was really holding back something from them. And that tree that he had forbidden to them was really the secret of their happiness, and God was holding it back from them all. You can see the work of the enemy here.
He was bringing in a suggestion in their minds about, in spite of that wonderful creation, that God was not really altogether good, that he wasn't thoroughly and fully seeking their happiness. And now, dear young people, I know that what you're hearing at school is the same hiss of the serpent. It's the same attempt of that one who got the ear of Adam and Eve to get your ear and to get you occupied with all the things in this world that you can enjoy.
They talk about the countries being unlimited, the possibilities being unlimited.
All the things that are possible for us to enjoy in this world, and now they want to set aside the Creator himself. Isn't that just exactly what that what the serpent did in the Garden of Eden? He said to Adam and Eve, Why, You have unlimited possibilities here, and God's going to restrict you. He's going to hold you back from something that you could enjoy. And so they listened to Satan.
And so with God's creation, as soon as you start to school, they try to put a doubt in your mind about the way that God created this world and His purpose in creating it. He they would try to bring that doubt into your mind, to put a breach, to put something between you and your Creator. And I beseech of you dear young people, to cling to that which God has given to us about creation.
It says the heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmament show his handiwork. Now I confess that there are many details about the creation that I don't fully understand. There are many things that are beyond us, and God intended that it should be so. He never intended that we should be as gods. He intended that we should be as creatures. But He has told us enough that should satisfy us. And there is plenty for our knowledge, because the most important thing is not all the details.
Of the creation, but the one that created it and that He created it because he desired our happiness.
Going back to my little illustration about the house, supposing you said, well, I can't enjoy this house unless this man tells me how many nails he drove in the house. Unless he tells me to the very hours and minutes how long it took him to build it. Unless he tells me where he purchased every square inch of material that's in the house, I'll never be able to enjoy it. And he spends the rest of his life trying to find out all these details.
Well, I think you'd say what a foolish man. He knows that the man built it for him. He knows it was built in love for him.
Why not just settle down and enjoy it? And as he looks at every piece of wood in it and every carpet in it and every little appointment in it?
That he can say the man that built this loved me and he put all those things in here for me so that I could be happy.
I've sometimes said to the young people up at Otter Lake, it's a lovely thought to my mind to think that when God created this world, he made a lake up there and he put a Bay on it and he fixed it all up just right for us to be together and enjoy it all. You say? Well, this was formed by glaciers and all this sort of thing. Well, that just spoils it for me. I'd rather think of the I don't know how he did it, but I know that he had a purpose in it, and this purpose means more to me than all the details.
About how it came about. And I know that he was thinking of the dear young people who can sit on the side of it and enjoy the fact that the God who made all that loves them and sent his Son to die for them. And dear young people, I want to tell you. And dear children, I want to tell you as you pass through this world, if you spend all your time on these questions about how the creation was brought about and don't enjoy it from the hand of your Creator, you're missing.
00:20:32
The grandest thing that you can have, and that is the heart of your Creator, who when he put every stone in place, as our brother said, before he put any lake on this world, before he appointed anything, he was thinking about you, and he was desiring your happiness not only here but for all eternity. Oh, isn't this a wonderful thing to know? Or I want to bring before you a little bit of the fact that.
That one who is the Creator loves you, and God tells us.
That even where the Bible is unknown, that he intended that creation should be a voice to those who do not know him, he says the heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmament showeth his handiwork. And when the poor Pagan looks up and worships the star, God says he's worshipping the creature more than the Creator. He's more occupied with the thing than with the person who made it. And so I say that in creation.
God has a testimony to man, and that testimony of his of his eternal power and Godhead and his goodness, that made a place like this that we could live in. And what a sad thing that men are still listening to the voice of the tempter that would rob them of this fact all. May I say again, dear young people, in all your studies, don't let the enemy rob you of the fact that the God who made everything.
Has told you in a general way how he has made it, and he has told you his purpose in making it was that his delights were with the sons of men. I beseech of you and pray that you dear young people might be kept. The enemy is trying to bring a wedge between you and God, and if he can only do that, he has ruined your life. He has robbed you of that which is for your blessing.
And he has also given a victory to himself and robbed you a blessing. For now, let us turn to another passage in Job Chapter 33.
Verse 10 Job 33 Verse 10 Behold, he findeth occasions against May he counteth me for his enemy.
He putteth my feet in the stocks he marketh all my paths. Behold, in this thou art not just. I will answer thee, that God is greater than man. Why dost thou strive against him? For he giveth not account of any of his matters. For God speaketh once, yeah twice, yet man perceiveth it not in a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon man in slum rings upon the bed.
Then he openeth the ears of man, and sealeth their instruction that he may withdraw a man from his purpose, and hide pride from man.
He keepeth back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword. He has chastened also with pain upon his bed.
And the multitude of his bones with strong pain saw that his life abhorrent bled, and his soul dainty meat. 23rd verse. If there being a messenger with him, an interpreter, one among 1000, to show unto man his unright his uprightness, then he is gracious unto him, And Seth deliver him from going down to the pit. I have found a ransom. His flesh shall be fresher than a child's. He shall return to the days of his youth.
He shall pray unto God, and he will be favorable unto him, and he shall see his face with joy.
For he will render unto man his righteousness. Well, this brings us to the second point. And that is God's ways, God's ways. Now it tells us in another place that God's ways are past finding out. And here it tells us, why dost thou strive against him? For he gives not account of any of his matters. And this is the second thing that man stumbles at. And Satan leads man's heart into rebellion.
00:25:28
In Creation, he tries to come in and occupy him with the creation and deny the existence or at least the character, of the Creator. And in connection with God's ways, he tries to lead man's heart to rebellion against God.
And what God is seeking to bring before us here, as well as another passages in His word.
Is that his purpose in his ways is the good and blessing of man? And how often we find that when a man has some serious trouble come into his life, perhaps a loved one is snatched away from him, perhaps the difficulty comes.
The devil comes to him and says how can God be a God of love when he allows a thing like that?
The Bible tells you that it's because he is the God of love that he allowed that.
It was to withdraw man from his purpose. Maybe that man was on his road to a lost eternity.
And he wouldn't listen to the pleadings of love. And so God comes in through circumstances and trouble.
And speaks to him and instead of seeing and hearing the voice of God in the circumstance.
He allows Satan to bring rebellion into his heart. And dear young Christian, isn't this true with us as believers too? Perhaps there's been some disappointment come in your life. Maybe you had some plan and it just seemed to be working out so nicely. Things seemed to be going on so well, and all of a sudden everything was disrupted. Everything turned to disappointment instead of to fruition.
And you were just brought to the point that the enemy said, well, you thought the Lord loved you. You thought he was caring for you, and that he was working things for you. Why did he allow that? And he tries to come between your soul and God through the circumstance. But why did God allow it? Why did God allow it? Perhaps he saw that with me, or perhaps with you. We were getting satisfied with earthly friendships.
We were getting satisfied with material things and he knew that those things could never really satisfy.
And so he allowed that disappointment. He allowed that frustration not because he hated us, because he loved us. Whom the Lord loveth, he chasteneth, whom the Lord loveth, he chasteth All those troubles don't come, because the Lord is against you. If God before us, who can be against us, he that spared not his own son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?
All I ask you don't allow rebellion to come in your heart.
Don't allow rebellion to come in your heart. Some of you dear young people, I know you're growing up.
Somebody, perhaps in the meeting, did an unkind thing to you. Somebody did something that really hurt.
And the enemy said, oh, don't take that, Leave the meeting. If that's the kind of people they are, don't stay. What was he doing? He was trying to rob you. He wasn't seeking your happiness. No, he was trying to come between you and God. But why did God allow that thing? Or maybe you had your eye on the brethren instead of on the Lord. And the Lord said, I want you to be at my table because I'm there. If you get occupied with your brethren and I confess I'm the same.
Dear young people, I'm not talking like this two years, though, it didn't mean me. It means me just as much as it means anyone else. We get so occupied with our brethren, we look around and we sort of get satisfied with the fellowship. And the Lord says, I want your heart. I want your heart. And I want you to realize that if everything else fails, and if everybody else disappoints you, I never will. I'm the same yesterday and today and forever.
All dear young person, he wants your heart. And if you go through that disappointment and that frustration and that mean thing that was done to you, and you take it from the Lord, you'll thank the Lord that He has taught you what it is to be truly gathered to His precious name. You will thank him for it in later life. Many, many of the older brethren here will say Amen to this. These things have happened and perhaps we felt the same too. We felt really upset.
00:30:28
And now we look back and we think, oh, the Lord has made me really value his presence and his.
And his table. More through that circumstance and saw the second thing I bring before you is God's ways. God's ways. They're past finding out. I'm not trying to explain why such and such a set of circumstances developed in your life.
I don't believe we always understand. I don't believe that Joseph ever fully understood.
Why? A lot of things happened in his life. I'm sure there are many Saints of God who lived and died.
Who never understood just why certain circumstances came in their life, but they had the grace to look up and say, As for God, his way is perfect, and peace filled their heart, and Jesus himself drew near and went with them. When did Jesus draw near? When that couple, Cleophus, and perhaps his wife, were thoroughly disappointed and discouraged and frustrated.
They were walking down on the road to Emmaus with heavy hearts. The very one that they thought was the Messiah of Israel had to their minds, disappointed them and their hearts were heavy. And Jesus himself drew near and went with them. Dear young person, are you? Are you disappointed? Are you frustrated? Are you? Just at the point where you say I'm going to leave the meeting, Jesus himself draws near to you. He wants to be everything to you.
For I should never realize it before, but he wants to be everything to you, and he wants you to learn that those ways that you can't understand, that are past finding out or in love. The devil tells you they're not. The devil tells you they couldn't be. How could they work together for good? I sometimes said in reading Romans 8. It says we know that all things work together for good to them that love God to them who are the calls according to his purpose.
We read that verse and we stop there and we say how could that be in this circumstance?
I say read the next verse, read the next verse. The next verse says for whom he did foreknow. He also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his son, that he might be the first born among many brethren. And I'll just tell you what I mean by reading the next verse. I guess we've all had this experience. Did you ever start to read a storybook and you came to a very sad chapter in the storybook?
And everything seemed so sad that you just could not see how it would workout. And you couldn't. You couldn't wait any longer. And you turned over to the end of the book to see how the story ended. And when you saw that it ended well, you went back and maybe the tears were rolling down your face. And you kept saying to yourself, it's going to be all right. It's going to be all right. Because I know the end of the story. And God knew that doubts might come in our minds. And we'd wonder how this chapter in our life could ever workout just right. But God says, I'm going to tell you the end. And the end is that we're going to be conformed to the image of his son.
That he might be the first born among many brethren. What a pathway he trod. And he went through it all. And he's up there in glory. He's trodden the path before us. And so the next thing we see here is his ways. The devil says all. They're not in love. God says yes they are, Yes they are. Dear young person, believe God, I say to myself, Believe God.
Believe him. What? Everything looks. It's blackest when everything looks impossible. Believe God. He's not against you. The one who created this world, created it for your pleasure. The one who orders the circumstances of life. He has ordered them for your good and blessing. And in His perfect wisdom and perfect love, He's making all things work together for good. Well, then we have the next.
00:35:01
Testimony of God, His word. Let's turn to second Peter, chapter one.
Second Peter chapter one.
Beginning at the first verse, Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ.
To them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Savior Jesus Christ.
Grace and peace be multiplied under you through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.
According as his divine power hath given unto us all things.
That pertain unto life and godliness through the knowledge of him who hath called us to, or by glory and virtue, or by are given unto us, exceeding great and precious promises, that by these you might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
While we have had God's testimony to us through creation, we have had His voice speaking to us through His, through His ways, with us in our pathway. And now we have this blessed book. Thou hast magnified Thy word above all thy name. And so as we read this blessed book, we find things in it that often conflict with our way of life. They bring before us how there are things that we wanted to do.
Things that we perhaps thought we were right in doing. And as we read this book, we found in it that God had revealed his mind differently in that connection. And the enemy again comes and says, Oh well, you'll have to disobey the word of God. That verse couldn't just mean that. And he suggests to us then that we would go in disobedience to His word.
All how true this is of our hearts. Just the same as regards salvation. You pick up the Bible and start to talk to an unsaved man, and immediately he starts to talk about things in the Bible that he can't understand, about things that look to him like contradictions. And you say to him, well, let's set these things aside. There's something that is very, very plain, and that is that God loves you even though you're a Sinner.
And that he gave his son to die for you, and that he wants you to receive him as your savior.
Than if you receive him, then you'll have the Spirit by which you can understand the word.
But now he wants you to answer every question that he can raise, from Genesis to Revelation, before he'll believe the good news.
That God loves him, that Christ died for him, and that he can have his sins forgiven and have a home in heaven. You try to bring him back to the wonderful way of salvation, and he keeps raising these questions continually. Who is it that makes all this trouble and confusion in his mind? It's the enemy.
He doesn't want them to hear the voice of God through his word and receive the blessing that God has for him. Again, the enemy is at work. He's opposed to everything that's of God. He tries to bring doubts in man's mind about creation, doubts about his ways, doubts about his word.
The first thing he said to Eve in the Garden of Eden was, yeah, hath God said. He raised the question, Is it really the word of God? Is it really true? And he won't even accept it. He won't even prove it. Oh dear young people, this Bible, this book is the most wonderful treasure that you and I have. It says his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness.
God hasn't undertaken to answer all our curious questions. John said that if the things that Jesus did were all written.
The world itself couldn't contain the books that would be written. God could have given us enough books to read that the world itself couldn't contain them, and then we would be baffled, wouldn't we? But He didn't. He just gave us this book, which gives us all things that pertain unto life and godliness. The libraries of the land are full of books, but they don't answer your questions. No God could have filled this world with books. I say He could have answered every curious question that's in our mind. Certainly he has all wisdom.
00:40:00
But I'm glad that he just gave us this book, because I find in it all things that pertain unto life and godliness. There isn't a thing necessary that you should have eternal life, And that eternal life is that you might know God is your Father, and whole communion with him as your father be in His presence, and that with a life that can enjoy His presence forever. He's told us this in His word.
Isn't this wonderful? I'm glad he's made the way of salvation simple.
Because some of us couldn't understood it if he'd made it difficult. But he's made it simple, so that even a child, a waferring man or a fool, need not earther him.
But there is also all things that pertain unto godliness. Do you want to please the Lord in your life?
You really want to live for him? Do I really want to please him? Well, he has given us the answers in his word, dear Mr. Darby once said. He said I never came to a question in my life that I didn't find either a direct scripture or a principle in God's precious word to guide my conduct. And that's why, dear young people, I want to encourage you as I close to read God's Word.
Don't just read the verses that talk about salvation. Read it all. Read it. All circumstances arise in your life and mine life becomes more complex. Difficulties continue to arise. All I beseech of you to read the whole word of God.
Those precious stories of the Old Testament are full of deep moral lessons for us.
And God has written in his word. There is not one single place that there isn't a purpose. I remember one time I was going to read one of those chapters with names, and I thought, what good can I get by reading all those names? Well, I confess that sometimes I read through them hurriedly and I don't pay too much attention. But I thought at this time I'm going to pay a little more attention. There must be a purpose. And I read the chapter carefully.
Chapter I believe in Chronicles. I don't just remember the chapter, but it was talking about David's children.
And I found that David called one of his sons Nathan, and I found out that as near as I could gather.
It was the one that was born just after Nathan had rebuked him for his sin.
I thought, isn't that lovely if a brother came to me and told me about something that I was doing?
That was wrong. I wonder if I'd want to call my next son by his name. I'd probably want to forget his name and say, well, he didn't speak very nicely to me, point his finger right at me and said thou art the man. But David didn't show that spirit. I thought, what a lesson. And that was in the chapter with names. All dear young people, there's something in it for you and me. It's all important. There's a blessing in it all. Read it. It's God's word. It's God's letter to you. And he wrote it to you because he loved you.
And he wanted you to know everything that was necessary for you to know for your whole life here, and to give you entrance into that home above all. I say again, dear young people, the devil is coming between your soul and God, if he possibly can.
And if he can bring some doubts about God's creation, then he'll do it.
If he can bring some doubts about God's ways, then He'll do it. If He can bring some doubts about the word of God or the purpose in the various Scriptures, He'll do it. But oh, if you'll just see in the whole creation that He made it because He loved you, not all the ways that He orders in your life and mine are to do as good at our latter end, and that this precious book, every jot and title, every word in it.
Was written because he wanted to make himself known to you and me.
That we might not only know the blessings, but that we might know the blesser himself.
And to be in his presence and to enjoy all that's in his heart.
For all eternity will be heaven itself. We won't need anything.
Apart from what he supplies in that blessed scene. And right now he has.
Through his word and in this world, given us, what he sees is best for us.
All dear young people, May God grant that that one who made known the heart of God will make Himself more known to your heart and mind, that we'll know more of the heart of the Father, more and more of the heart of the Son, and walk in the enjoyment of it. May God grant that He will cause us in these days of departure and declension, and giving up to realize that God has not changed, that He is just as suited to 1966.
00:45:24
As he was to AD 66. Just as suited, just as able to meet your needs.
Just as able to give you wisdom and grace, just as able to fill your heart this year.
As he was when He was here upon earth. Oh, May God grant that we will turn to Him.
And just look up and say, Lord, I believe, help thou mine unbelief.
Shall we sing #309?
Jesus, before thy face we fall, our Lord our life, our hope, our all, for we have nowhere else to flee no sanctuary. Lord with thee, 309.
Face we fall.
Our Lord.

So the fact that we are at the end.
God is faithfully telling us of the conditions that would exist at the end.
Now if man starts up something new.
He puts out a prospective.
And all he envisions is that it will grow and grow and grow and get.
Really. Back in the beginning of 5th, 20 day before Christianity itself in the Lord himself.
Gave us indication of what would become of Christmas.
We're not misled.
By the thoughts of Christianity would go down and increase and finally submerge all you all and cover the world.

We are told that the last days will be days of departure and depression and they would be difficult times for Christians to live in.
Now it isn't the only Jew.

Almighty damned who believed not the truth.
Second, Timothy tells us of the ruin of Christendom as a great house.
There was things to dishonor from which the child of God would be purge himself, if he were to be a vessel under honor.
And then Second Timothy 2.
Doctor Timothy tells us of the last day in the moral conditions that would exist.
Difficult times for some, not because of years and rumors of war, the.
But because of the moral condition that would exist.
And if we read the 2nd chapter, Second Timothy, we say, surely they're here now.
Believers that have mentioned there have always been.
But they characterize this.
2nd Peter tells of the.
God that was lost to turn into a dwelling in the mire.
Second, Peter tells us that the world is going back to the corruption that criticism helps the friendship from the profession of.

All these different characteristics mark the last days. I missed one first. John goes farther and says they ran out.
Driven up, right?
Welcome, First Minister, they crept in, but in first John had gone out.
Abandoned the profession.
That's, but the Epistle of June is also one of those epistles.

I might perhaps add that we're in the last moments of the last day.
Well, surely we need to be reminded.

And finally I said, if I hadn't met the likes of you, I might doubt of that.
You're approved to move the prescription through.
One doesn't take this automatically automatically.
Leave it, leave it open, but it will come. Upheld Good is written by the Lord's brother.
How wonderful does it say you're the brother and Jesus Christ, but you're the servant of Jesus Christ?
There is no presuming on any slightly relationship at any time. Margaret, please.
I don't know.
The author of the Epistle of James.
And then we get to them that are beloved. It should be beloved, not sanctified.

And that's so touching, comforting, encouraging.
That envy, a pickle that gives us the darkest picture we have of ******* them.
Just a short run chapter affair.
But that word beloved is repeated 4 times.
We're just nestled closer together.
And nearly get to the end and surrounded by the the.
The world gets closer together.
There, get the love.
The love, the God, the Father.
That's a very comforting thought in connection with the days of apostles.
Later in the epistle, where we're exhorted to keep ourselves in the love of God.
Before he describes, the apostrophe reminded us that we're beloved.
Comfortable isn't enough interior.
Beloved by God the Father, there is our name of Christian relationship.
And preserve not only beloved, but preserved in Jesus Christ.
So we're going to be taken through safely.
We're beloved and we're preserved.
We might feel.
Some real persecution before with legal.
I believe it again, ecumenical movement, which is broad and imprisonment.
Well, how is one of the main objectives?
Express everything that doesn't go with it.
And those gathered to the Lord's name may feel it.
Wasn't that way when?
When Rome came into power.
It grew and grew on taking off the enthusiastical system.

Well, many of them were merging.
There were slaves, for the Lord's sake, they did.
To leave that system, they dared to oppose it. What happened to them?
Well, we can bring it down to the present time, I'm sure.
That's one of the things that the Lord has promises is not in the world, you shall have simulation, but be a good fear. I have overcome the world and they who will live godly this down.

But in the first have announced apostrophe under giving up of the truth.
But our brother Brown is followed our attention to is most something there is one that's able to preserve it through it again and he will do it.
The promises of a safe and pure landing, but he does not promise us a smooth passage.
Any old Mr. Harry says. Never mind the liberal persecution, it'll make your face dry.
Mercy under you and peace and love.
Whose land?
No more supplies.
I don't know how you can put that in strong.
Mercy on the world and truth and love emotions.
Have you any other translation? No, I think that's it.
Up another point.
We live in the real life.
How much we're indebted to God for every step of the journey.
Mercy and truth and love, the assurance that we have been loved.
00:15:09
When it takes your mercy here, is it the God?
There's individuals that such that are blessed.
They're not as blessed as a collective company, as a church, but as individuals.
And this is the truth that in the present stage.
Up to each individual it is faithful to the Lord.
That doesn't mean that we're true with the collective aspect, but those who seem to be faithful to the Lord want to please Him and go on according to the truth. Surely God by His ear will see that they're brought together so that they can go on together. But here it's mercy and all how we're in need of mercy of individuals.
That we might continue on faithfully.
There we go. Didn't comment brother. Welcome end of that first verse call. We didn't say a word about that.
The sovereign thing, isn't it?
The call of God.
That's why the whole thing starts.
And then that call.
Thank you. Back to God, Solomon. And it does.
Recall Facebook.
Not what they call a thing. That isn't it. But we're called things. That's the kind of things we are.
Then call.
That thing love that spread the truth and gently towards the end also I had still refused the case in Paris in my face.
Required things the same as.
He got his permission by God. Thousand call.
No man gave a joke what we're saying.
We do not get it by canonization.
Have to wait a long time for that.
We are now.
What does faith mean by Brown?
Holy one separated one Holy the very same words.
That is used in the word for sanctify is used in the nouns of things.
Set apart for God.
Not a wonderful thing in a day of apostasy, yeah?
In the Old Testament.
Those are some that said that God was called men of God. Then we get that in Second Timothy again, thou old man of God.
Just just a reference on that word called Isaiah 3217.
Isaiah 3217 And the work of righteousness shall be peace.
And the effect of righteousness, quietness, and the Spirit forever.
That gives us.
Everybody does it, not sure.
Also about heaven and men by the birth.
And brother, never let us sacrifice the truth of God service.
It's a cardinal Church of Scripture.
And if you deny that, or if we allow them, denial of us.
We will undermine the truth of all scripts.
God is sovereign.
Brother said to me one time. He says, well, you make it look like a mystery. Why? I'm told.
I've been doing, I don't know why.
And it never will, is it not? That's the fact that God is sovereign doesn't alleviate or eliminate our responsibility.
The Lord be no man in heaven.
Credit in the South of anything to get there.
But there will be no man in hell that can blind God for genius.
There is this first, the Romans 8.
Verse 30.

Moreover.
Whom he did to destiny.
Then he also called.
And who recalled then he also justified.
And whom he justified when he also glorified.
Call.
You are all but you are chilling. I just go and heal is addressed to be called one.
There has been an exceptional work.
Called one and unless the God is translating it is this way.
You, the bond member, Jesus Christ and brother of James.
To the Paul Drum. So it's about creating that.
Like the entire you have the faith of God's elect.
You're not a family on the country of his thoughts, his love, his person and knowing you.
You call one or two, they are preserved, and they may even be preserved from stumbling in the last of our people.
But they are called in our pickle to contain earnestly for the faith and to keep themselves in the love of God.
Unto the mercy of our arms.
It got back a little early and not just ate the Romans.
What would you say about this? For whom he did for know he also did pedestrians.
Now there are money that we do.
Sovereignty of God to a common denominator.
With foreknowledge.
That is the general pattern around it today.
It's a very convenient way to get out of what seems an embarrassing situation.
Are we going to be satisfied with that? But it's a matter of his progression, and he knows who before knew how about that?
Listen to foreknowledge, Brother Brown, of persons, and not of what to do.
Yes.
Yes, there are those that say well.
All the rest of its election doctrine or predestination doctrine is that God elected or predestinated those who reform.
Well, that's that is the.
That is the standard approach.
Down to the ages to this question.
It's just a convenient way to shift off from the embarrassing fact.
That no one, absolutely no one ever would turn to God apart from the southern will of God working in the soul.
Now that is made so clean and John's gospel.
It's it's fundamental doctrine and they can't afford to weaken it or give it up.
I think the worthwhile turning to it.
In the 6th chapter of John's Gospel.
And the 44th verse will read back first.
John took 44.
No, man.
Now notice it's universal.
No limitation, no man.
Can come to me.
Except the father, which had sent me golfing.
Oh, there's that plain unconditional statement that no man can come except the Father that you sent me. Draw him. That will go back to the 37th verse.
00:25:05
All that the Father giveth me.
Now come to me.
On the 41St, 44th, 1St as no man can come.
The 37th verse says all that the Father giveth me shall come.
Now there's no contradiction. This can't come of themselves. All that the Father giveth me shall come to me, and whim that cometh to me I will no wise cast out. Well, there are two of the most important versions.
In the whole of John Jackson.
Because if you link them together.
You see, that man is absolutely helpless. He's so far gone, there's one single little movement in his heart towards all.
But God in His sovereignty works, and some.
Are made to come.
Now if you go a step further back and ask, well, why did God choose those particular individuals and not another?
I do not believe beloved Saints of God will ever get the answer to that.
God is severance. He has a right to do as he pleases, and He always pleases to do right.
And no one in the regions of the law will ever be able to accuse God and say that it didn't give me a chance.
Whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
When I was out here last year.
I gave a little talk about Sarah Madrid one large the afternoon.
And I made the remark about John 316.
That verse forever.
Any voice that might be raised and complained against God because they haven't had a fair chance.
And a young brother inside. She was present, not gathered with us.
Close this Bible and sat and stared at the wall the rest of the rest of the address.
So I accosted him at the end of the meeting and I said you didn't like what I said. No, he said I didn't.
Well, I said what was wrong?
John 316 refers to the elections. Only the elected God loved. He didn't love everybody. It's the elect world that he loves.
Well, brethren, I believe that's a sad perversion of Scripture.
The world in John 316 as a whole human race.
God is no respect for me. On to all ready.
We must be careful that we never set God free. Grace to passage the wall against God's Father and stories of those who believe.
Now we have a pamphlet.
It's probably on sale in the book room. Arminianism. Arminianism versus Calvinism.
I recommend you because Calvinism talks that God predestinated people to be damned and there isn't a word of truth in it.
But I didn't have to know.
Asking for us again to say something on what does for knowledge mean in Roman church.
There is not simply this.
That God chose to pick ourselves, why, I don't know.
It's planning to get your no not getting good.
And all whom before I know.
He has brought in the blessing and he will bring this safely through to the very end. And he also gorgeous.
Would you be yes only nothing we can the sovereign election side of it. It isn't that God for you those who weren't except.
Because no one would accept, no man can come under me, except the father which has sent me daughter to.
Seeking to understand the intricacies of God's sovereign grace, I suppose this one verse covered the situation around the 2929 Yeah, the secret thing belong on the dog, the Lord our God.
00:30:07
But those things which are revealed, belonging to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law. Would it be correct to say, as we've been speaking about, that this precious person in Romans 830 concerning election would mean marked out, marked out beforehand, and then predestination for what we're marked out for? Yes, that's the problem. That's right.
No.
The 8th chapter proverbs making any place before the foundation of the world. I am connected to the positive side of core knowledge with the negative that we get in Matthew 723. Where the Lord says, Then will I profess unto them, I never knew you.
Well, that isn't knowing what they did. But the person didn't live there. I never knew you. That's the other side of it. There are those that God never knew. No place is listening.
Not what they did, but their person.
In regards to what you Brother Brown?
Some years ago I was handed a book.
Of course, the Indigenous.
It's an exposition of the Epistles of the Loma, and I was asked to review what it said on election.
This is what it says.
That God looked down through the Vista of the ages.
I'm sorry, who would believe and made his time support him?
Now, I may not have the wording exactly. That's the distance. Well, that's exactly wrong, yeah.
Family, according to the community, will.
It's not the perfect picture.
Well, the reason we stopped to comment on this, brethren, is because there is a determined effort.
Abroad to do.
To reduce the truth of God's sovereignty.
To make it synonymous with his foreknowledge.
And the two are not the same at all. Of course God for you those that would be in heaven, how could it be God and not **** over?
But why is it that they are the ones because of his sovereign election choice that shows them?
I am glad Brother Whittaker called attention to Deuteronomy 2929. The secret things belongs the Lord our God, but the things that are really healed belong unto us and to our children. Let's be satisfied with what God is revealing and not cry into the secret that belong to God. And then let me repeat.
God is God.
And he has a right as God to do as he pleases.
But remember, we always pleases to do right.
1825 isn't it Genesis 1825 Shall not the judge of all the earth through right?
We know that the judgments of God according to two. Now those two verses, one you've got quoted by the Weddington, the one I just quoted, we can just rest our souls on.
Shall not the judge of all the earth do right? We know that the judgments of God are according to truth. Now let's let it rest there, and not sight of pride back to what God has told us and reveal to.
Now when we preach the gospel, we do not preach God sovereign. We preach God grace defenders, and we tell them that God has sent his Son, He's glorified himself, and he's such a sin. And now if they'll just accept him, they can be saved.
Tell us, I think it was very little. You can tell us about the arts way. I think that's a good illustration.
Well, as I remember it, here's the great song of the human race going down the highway.
00:35:00
And the song passed an archway, and on the outside of that archway it says whosoever will let him enter.
They passed by. They all see the sign.
And once in a great while somebody dropped out of line and turns into the archway.
And as it gets inside, and behold the blister that can touch him.
Who's assigned to the maintenance?
Of his own, by the beauty in which he finds himself.
And we start to look back and wonders while crying, they're all turning here. And he reverses himself and looks back toward that arc through which he had passed.
And sees written over the arts on the inside.
Throw them in Christ before the foundation of the world.
But you couldn't see that from the outside, and that was the district of why he dropped out of line and entered the Ark.
Sometimes that has been called sadly true, that proof that only the family of God knows chosen in Christ.
I must enjoy the transparency. The Lord over Jerusalem, I think, but as many of us have puzzled over, and that's what has been empty exactly. But to see the Lower East of life itself. We see over Jerusalem with a great joy, my soul.

Another round One dime recent agency said to me in private conversation.
The older I get, the more I revel in God South.
On sovereignty.
It's like a refuge, a forces into which we can retreat.
00:40:00
And it's pleasant to retreat into the sovereignty of God, but all how awful for a man to resist God and his sovereign will, and not to allow his will to bow. And I suppose it's those who do not have faith that rebelled against any song that God is sovereign.
But all faiths just revels in it, just rest upon it, just retreat into it as a fortress at the end of Romans 11.
But it it just overwhelmed Paul. He just broke out into this marvelous security. I'm here.
32nd verse Speaking of Israel.
Rather than hooded them all in unbelief that he might have mercy upon all in the coming days.
All the depths of the riches, both of the wisdom and knowledge of God. How on searchable are His judgments and His ways fast finding out for who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been His counselor?
Who has first given to Him, and it to be recompensed unto Him again. For of Him and through Him and through Him are all things to Him the glory forever and ever. Amen.
All beloved Saints of God.
God didn't need to sit in on the council to advise him how to do things.
Who hath known the mind of the Lord, or who hath been His counselor?
He didn't need a committee of human beings to sit in at the counsel table and tell him how to arrange this thing. He was well able to take care of his own affairs.
And so the apostle just.
Revered in the truth of God's competency and his sovereignty, and ends up for that beautiful, wonderful conclusion of him, through him, through him of all things, to him, the glory forever, Amen. Well, let's, let's leave it there and rejoice in it.

And Duran is 7.
On verses 6:00 and 7:00.
For thou art and holy people unto the Lord thy God. But the Lord thy God hath chose me to be a special people unto Himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth. The Lord did not set His love upon you, nor choose you, because you were more in number than any people, for you were the purest of all people, but because the Lord loves you, and because he would keep the oath which he had born under your Father's.
Hath the Lord brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the House of Bonnman summer.
And the Pharaohs in religion because it refers to the Israelites, but.
Any principle, Same principle, but they are taught by the Brown and first Peter one verse 2.
Any further word to give on that or have recovered that?
Further, elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit unto obedience and frightening of the blood of Jesus Christ. Grace unto you, and peace be multiplied.
That's the rehearsal of the various steps in this procedure.
One word which is displayed or disguised anything from being jealous in the gospel.
The man that roses in Romans 11 That our brother has been reading said royal underneath if I preach, not the gospel.
We are in danger of tonight we are looking at justice, one side of God's overall plan. It's good if we can fit into God's plan and that is part of God's plan and that's the way the souls are brought face to face with their responsibilities, face to face with Christ. And that's why the apostle said you always need. It's part of God's plan that we should preach the God well, brother.
Was criticizing another brother for wasting so much time preaching the gospel all over our street partners, he said. Why don't you preach to the election?
Well, he said. Brother, if you go around Makamar, I'll crystal.
The man comes to you and he doubled about election, about his own elections. You can tell him with his story. You accept Christ and I can tell you positively that you're one of the elect. And that settles it in a hurry.
00:45:17
Somebody asked him how how he could be sure that he was going to be elected. Why should you make yourself a candidate instead of the elections?
Let's have that verse. I don't turn to our guest in the moment, therefore I endure all things for the elections, that they may obtain the salvation that's in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.
Yes, verse 10. Now there there's the answer. That verse is the answer.
To the man that accuses us.
That if we hold this teaching, we'll become indifferent in the gospel. We will become dilatory. We will.
Become.
Indifferent. Well, here's the answer.
In the 10th verse, the second Tennessee 2. The man that taught us the doctrine of elections.
The one that taught us that truth, how did it affect him? He says in that tenth verse, Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sake, that they may also obtain the salvation of in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. What you might say to Paul. Paul, what do you, why do you burn it?
You said the election is going to get it anyhow.
Why do you go through all those things?
Our brethren, the doctrine of election is truly understood.
And the soul does not make people indifferent. And here's the proof of it right here in the 10th verse of Second Timothy 2.
Falling Fall was the greatest soul winner. I suppose it ever lived.
It didn't have the effect of dampening his ardor or his real one moment.
Mr. Praveen may remind staying away with two as graduates from Philippians.
Workout Drone Salvation is fear and trembling, for it is God that worketh in you the willing and the doing of His good pleasures. Does that not have a an application to the subject of elections?
Working out their own salvation with fear and trembling as a matter of finding your way through this fine scene here below.
The sign that ends in blown there is the exercise before God as we go on day by day in our pathways not to become careless or indifferent. It's not to sell. It's not the eternal salvation of the soul and that burden.
But it's God that worketh in you. It's God that worketh in you. That's a great comfort, a wonderful comfort to anyone who realizes that they're in the Lords love, that he loves them and he's working in them, the willing and the doing of his good pleasure. Now that's one that is interested.
In his own salvation isn't a different one.
In connection with it's the first two courses in the 6th of June.
They shall be all half of God. Doesn't that have a more than just a limited application?
Isn't all fruits that we receive pens and God himself? And it isn't we're not dependent upon creatures?
I have thought a good deal lately of.
The passage in the 11Th isn't just Second Corinthians.
Where it says.
The weapons of our warfare are not carnal.
Not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds.
Casting down reasoning.
00:50:01
Well, if I'm proud of God, if I know what I have is from God.
I don't reason about it. It's God who has spoken and we had it brought before. It all becomes a creature who raised his voice to question anything God said. But just think of that verse it.
The weapons of our warfare are to be used to cast down reasoning. In our translation, it's.
Of imagination, but I understand that the word has a.
Another meaning, casting down reason against God. We don't reason against the word of God. Faith accepts the word of God and is blessed. Well reasons and their carnal and we are to rear against them and use the weapons that God has given us.
To do cast down reasoning.
All going on to our third verse.
Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of our common salvation, should read our.
It is meaningful for me to write into an exhortation. You could earnestly contend for the faith that was once delivered to the Saints.
That is, the apostle seems to have been turned aside, as it were, from what they had in his heart to write through them.
And turned aside to ride along a different line.
It is necessary.
I need her right, and you, that she should earnestly contend for the face that was once delivered to the Saint.
Sort of stick going back and starting over again, saying now.
First aspect you have. The time has come.
When we must earnestly contend for the faith weren't delivered to the Saints.
Once delivered, we have no amendments.
We have no addition, no alterations. The faith was once delivered.
It will never be amended. That's the faith for which were to contend right down to the end of faith once delivered to the Saints.
People wanted to modernize. They say, oh, you, you're obstructionist. There's no progress with you.
Rather than there's no such thing as progress in revelation. That is, when once the Word of God is completed, it's completed.
And you and I are not at liberty to add one thing to the revelation, nor are we at liberty to take one thing from it.
And contending, does it not imply that there are those who would take it from?
The last day and then the sun was taken by self and others by opening self.
And the truth of God is being attacked on every hand today.
It's being attacked in the schools and colleges.
Being a fashion religious places.
Well, we can't go. We can't go with it, earnestly contending for that which was from the beginning.
Faint once delivered to this end.
First first John chapter 2 and verse 24.
Let that therefore abide in you, which you have heard from the beginning.
That is the lifeguard.
Well, the politicians speak about the plan that they have in their platform.
It ain't so much over but we as Christians and Christian faith.
Have this place that we stand by and good and good, who had a very worthy subject that he would like to listen on our common salvation, but a great subject that is yet the Spirit of God of diverted him from his purpose, because the Spirit of God.
00:55:17
At a very important thing to bring before.
Because of the game is that the enemy would bring in, it's like a red light.
And you dearly, Yes. And you, dear young people.
Will have evolution drawn at your school.
Remember that it's not a God.
It's contrary to the word of God.
Utterly rejected.
Stand by the word of God. Now, I don't say that you convert. You can convert your patience, but you can utterly reject it for yourself.
I knew of the case, Brother Wilson.
Our young sister in school go and she wrote her examination.
On the subject of evolution, that was part of the classroom work.
She wrote it up just as he'd been taught it. Then she put a note at the bottom. I don't believe a word of this.
But this is what I've been calling the classroom.
I believe my Bible and I believe the 1St chapter of Genesis.
And find their name.
Well, if you let me read the letter that you got from the professor afterwards.
And he was coming and clever enough that he wrote it on the typewriter and he didn't sign his name.
But it was one of the most contemptible documents I ever read in my life.
It was a distress. I I couldn't possibly, in a public meeting like this, repeat some of the expressions that he used in that letter for that dear young woman.
It's a it's a sin of Satan that's behind this rumor today to this place, the word of God.
Throw everything into a flux.
Rethink everything and get the younger generation so mothers but they don't know what is true and they go around in the fall.
But if we'll just accept the beautiful, blessed, precious statements of the Word of God will never be put to change, God is going to vindicate every statement He's ever made.
And you can't have evolution and have the price of God. They do not go together. Yes, Sir.
Impossible to put these things together and compromise by the common ground. My birthday is some school that.
That is true, Doctor. I've reviewed one of those books.
And it's a sad thing to see those that supposedly standing for fundamental truth driven into a corner and taking the road to compromise.
I'm glad you mentioned that.
Idea behind the capitulation of.
Men who were supposed to be Christians at least, is that they love the praise of them more than the praise of God.
And they want to be accredited as being highly educated and the men in the top Escalante with education put down on them as they stand by the word of God. And so they want to compromise to maintain their own position.
I verily believe that.
I had some correspondence with a brother among us who was.
And Dave has been writing a textbook in biology.
01:00:01
And I asked him if he said hope to put that textbook over if it didn't keep evolution. Well, he didn't believe in evolution himself. He was a brother in fellowship. He didn't believe in it.
But he was only a part editor of the book.
And I said well if your name goes on the book is a Co editor.
And then that book should be used to stumble some of the children of the gathered Saints.
It'll be a sorrowful thing, wouldn't it?
And you know the dear man, just leave the whole thing up.
He says I'm going to pass it up. I'm having nothing to do with it. My name will not go on the book.
Well, I thought that was most commendable.
Evidence he hadn't thought the thing through, but when he did, he chose to be faithful to Christ and sacrifice the.
The honor that would have come to him in educational circles as being a Co editor of a textbook, well, that's that's most commendable.
Definition of what? Evolutionary moment?
Rising brother Wilson, who's been studying it for a couple of years, to do that far better than I can.
Maybe Doctor William President.
He told me he wrote me in a recent letter and he said man has always wanted to believe that there was no God that he had to meet.
And the doctrine of evolution is burned him an excuse for that which he dared not believe.
And sorry, now tries to make it on scientific ground.
Well, the whole thing goes back to God-given creation that it just all happened by fortuitous circumstance.
That's going backwards instead of both.
Well, we have in Philippines, but.
313 for the younger friend and him for us.
Philippians 313.
Brethren, I can't not myself to have apprehended.
This one thing I do for getting those things are behind and reaching for unto those things which are before I press 30 mark for the price of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
That's going forward backwards.
Well, I have been making it an extensive study.
And I have read some of the most objectionable graphs that ever was printed.
Man spewing out the venom of his heart against God and I am ready to pronounce this.
That there is no customer.
Either God and creation or its evolution and atheism.
That's the ultimate end of evolution atheist.
And the book I read that Doctor Wilhelm.
Suggested that I leave recently. The unleashing of evolutionary the man along with the time when God will be obliterated, all sort of God removed. He lands for a godless society and he's one of the top biologists in this country.
All the man speaks. He speaks what's in his heart. And a lot of people think that you can compromise the Bible with evolution, but if you read if we, I wouldn't recommend anybody to read it. But that man shows his can't be done.
I agree with your father work.
But sometimes some of us are in the position of the Watchmen.
And if the watchman says, then he needs to walk.
And we are all to earnestly contend for the faith, not just simply accept this, but in the face of strong adversaries who are teaching to undermine the faith of God's relief.
01:05:09
As a fairness, they can tend to the truth.
And.
The review of thousands of answers.
Most of which teach evolution.
Great percentage of the never use the word evolution. They say we don't dare we cover it up.
But the thing that they're taking is the undermining of the confidence in the word of God just the same.
11 verse 3.
Who is 11.3?
Bluetooth we understand that the world was playing by the word of God.
Though the things which were seen were not made things to appear, I believe that the standard verse against evolution is not what we stand on.
We do not have to account to the evolutionist for an answer to all.
There's a bad idea.
Many that came directly from the pit.
And by the word of God, that all things were created.
And it's not as we sometimes perhaps stay, we have to know what we mean that the world was created out of nothing. It was by means of the Word of God. God spoke and it was done. It was the Word. And when man says that it came about in some other way, well, he's doing your way with the fact that creation was by the Word.
They're doing the way with the word.
It is normally that God created it, but He upholded it. He upholded all things by the word of His power.
I could pick up a baseball and give it a fling for a few seats, but the moment it's out of my hand, it's out of my control.
But nothing is out of the control of God's hands. The whole complex heavens about it are upheld by the word of His power.
And so even though our earth travels millions and millions of miles around the sun.
We consider watch this to the second.
When the years up, you start over again.
Well, does that kind of thing just happen?
No, because there's one who's upholding all things by the word of his power.
And he will oppose it. He's able to do so.
And he needs no assistance from us. No advice is counsel from us.
Power. Not the power of his words. We know there's power in the word, but it's the word of His power.
Well, there are certain men crept in.
They were several.
They didn't announce themselves as they came in.
They didn't say we are corrupters.
They didn't say we're cheap.
But the trip in underwear?
Ungodly men.
Ungodly men turning the grace of God into lasciviousness.
And denying the only Lord God in our Lord Jesus Christ.
It's because they wanted to go on with their wicked life.
That they were denying.
The only Lord God in our Lord Jesus Christ.
It's because a man wants to go on in his course itself with and he thinks the real God out of the picture.
And we're saying Saturday in the reading.
Man constant doesn't turn infidel.
And the very man that Brother Wilson has been talking about, it's written this book.
Getting rid of God entirely. That very man's got a conscience ticking away on the inside of him that's telling him all the time it's appointed under man wants to die and after this the judgment and it's just wishful thinking.
01:10:05
If if your pardon expression is whistling in the dark, the show is not afraid.
Doorkeepers, there's a new translation. These men got in unnoticed.
But certain men have got in unnoticed. Need to be noticed.
Picked up and barred out.
They kept in in June, but in John had gone out the the atmosphere and the assembly was.
They're very comfortable. I got out.
Someone give us a word on the thought of new faith. Just one of them to take in.
Maybe spot before?
What is the faith that we have here in this third verse? They say it's here. The whole body of Christian doctrine. It has no reference to our individual faith.
It's not, we believe, the revelation that God has given to us.
Connection is must get those going from the evolution.
And the world is playing by the word of God. How would you compare?
Johnstock, both 11.
In the beginning was the word, and the word was withdrawed and the word was thought.
Well, that's really one, isn't it, Brother Maher?
With whom all originate.
That was the beginning that had no beginning.
And the one that created all things was always there, the eternal word.
And he was the thing by whom all things were created, by whom, and for whom. Not only so, but He's the one that upholds all things by the word of His power.
It the terms are now in the.
And the apostles proved that we used to repeat as I recall it. Don't remember whether it was every Sunday or not. I know it was very very frequently. We used to repeat it when I was a Methodist Church.
The first statement in it is not true.
I believe in God the Father, Maker of heaven and earth.
That isn't true, is it?
It isn't God the Father that made heaven and earth.
It's God the Son that made heaven and earth.
God that made heaven on earth. But if you're going to distinguish the person.
It's by the sun.

About the 11Th verse.
The triple character.
Of the apostrophe in the present day.
War unto them for had gone in the way of King, a grand Jiggly after the error of Balaam for reward.
He passed in the game saying of course.
Well, I take it to three characteristics are.
The last pain is a bloodless religion.
Getting rid of the truth of blood atonement.
The heir of Balaam is the commercializing of religion.
Thanks for the game saying of course.
It's rebellion against all divinely constituted aside.
A bloodless religion. A commercialized religion.
On the southern side.
Of all divinely constituted authority.
Just wanted to make that general remark.
Connection with that bird.
The religion of the day.
With a floodless religion.
Man has desired our first day panaceas.
It just rules out man having to do that about sin and.
The sacrifice of Christ and the necessity of the bloodsetting.
The Lord Jesus Christ.
We need to be on our side against that kind of thing, even we who are the Lord.
So much of A religious sanctuaries of the day.
I'm referring now that's put out by that magical issue.
Your father's name?
That kind of thing is a black denial of the fundamental fact of Christianity.
Some years ago we published in 52.
A letter that was written by a sister in Olson to him, calling his attention to the fact that he left out the blood.
And we also published his invasive report.
The things we do before we went down to the 7th, 31St President Brown, that 14th book.
You have passed on the 7th from Adam Sophocide of Jesus saying, Behold the Lord summers with 10,000 of the Saints to execute judgment.
You know there are many errors of drugs and if we knew the word of God, it would keep us from.
There is an error being propagated now that seems to accommodate the word of God to the world philosophy.
And that is that the ages of the Old Testament courtyard, the early men mentioned in the Bible do not represent the truth.
But into each of them.
On down represented the whole line of people.
Now, I don't do that in order to make up for some of the time that they claim the geologists and evolutionists have to have.
And the 14 burns doesn't enough air service 7 from Adam?
00:05:03
Now don't. Don't be misled by their arguments, but.
These Old Testament names only, they represented a whole circle, a whole time with men.
Every not with the servants from that.
There's nothing question about.
So when they bring up that error, this first contradictory.
And also call attention to the fact which soon after this.
There was an e-mail from the line of train that I think he was the first from Adam, wasn't he? It wasn't the 7th anyway.
In the fourth chapter, Genesis instead of the third.
But this is a man of faith. This is Gina and the sofa side of judgment.
Well, what happened to it?
Why he was taken to heaven?
Who went there without God?
Well, that's, you know, the type of obscure and they'll be after this thing before first one persecution.
You know.
Is there any reason for mentioning the fact that he was the 7th from Adam other than that there was another, you know?
I suppose something might be made of the fact that he rounds out the 7th #7.
Representative an era.
A gathering referred to that brother Brown.
The 7th from Adam has it a prosthetic implication.
Tell us about him, brother. By the way, where thank you to hear. Well, don't look familiar because.
I don't feel capable as that has been flower. The 77 is usually I think that's always been sister a mark of completion and a number of completion or completeness. Well, if that's.
They applied for this case, then he completed an error.
Well this wasn't from Adam was taken to heaven without buying the church then would be 7.
The completing of the circle, is that a liable I mean?
He landed. He landed in the right place. The consummation of everything.
I have enjoyed this talk in connection with Enoch in the southern from Adams. Then that you didn't die. Six had died, but God was not allowed death.
To have it complete effect or complete work.
They broke them that and we know what the hope is now, because in the Lord Jesus Christ we have life and some of us are trusting that the Lord will come soon and take us home and we won't have to die.
Know that the preceding book died and he said.
Well, after the death of the Lord Jesus Christ, we enter into a special benefit of death being set aside.
Lord can speak to those that have been mean.
Caught up?
For the First Amendment in that case.
Price come in where the coast coming down with the church might lose where you go back from Genesis.
No, it doesn't matter.
But we do know that if after the Lord Jesus died.
Only the world.
They promised for their Father to spirit, and he was given the Spirit.
00:10:04
So that we might walk in happy silly with him.
And in these times, you get caught up to be with me.
As he began the official that even though it's an epistle of apostrophe dark days.
Yet God seems to sort of throw his arms around us and tell us Now, the dark of the day, the more you're going to be conscious of my intimate love.
So in the first verse, it's for them that are beloved by God the Father.
In the first verse we love him when I give all diligence to write unto you.
And then we come on down to the first verse that we read this afternoon. But beloved.
Remember Me the words of our Lord Google.
And then in the 20th, 1St. But we beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy face.
The affections of Christ are active.
And seemingly in a special way as we get into the days of the apostrophe.
That's one reason.
Why is that getting together? We've been having these three days our first purchase to it.
We know that the darkness is settling in around us.
They know that the apostrophe is on the increase rapidly and it drives this more together.
Draws out our affections 1 to another, if I may use the expression, we huddle together in the sense of his love and our fellowship together in the bonds of Christ. Well, to me that's very precious. Beloved things of God, We're nearing the end.
And the bonds that unite us are all the more scrutin places.
Can you run your side away?
Phoenix, the type of Christ, according to Mr. Darby, means devoted.
Running back to the big character.
We have the.
Nor are the first of these reasons.
Change offer a bloodless offering.
Right after he killed his brother.
And verse 15.
The wrong as far as the way up came late ungodly.
And Make Heart speakers.
Of him saying that my iniquity is.
Still great to be father you never knew.
The grace of God.
And verse 16 we have a result about.
That girl on the earth of Bellum commercialized religion is Brother Grand Prix.
And.
On verse 19 we have the results of the game saying as far as.
Starting the Newton.
Without having the Spirit.
Beloved, remember you, the Word, which is spoken before the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ. Remember the Word, the Word.
Why am I being so repetitive?
Let us remember, brethren. We're never wiser than sisters. Remember you the Word.
That was spoken before the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ. We're thrown right back to the Word.
President Prophet Blair and I ever the words were found, and I believe them. My words, thy word, if it changes from the third of the singular, thy word was unto me. It's well, and it's working of my heart.
00:15:07
Well.
Answer of God Is that what you referred to? The third mark of the Apostolic age. It's the amount of authority that he's aiming at. He has the authority of the word of God.
And the soul that realizes that he has got a character and he may even and find it, it's well and reversing of his heart. There's nothing full of a believer's heart. There's such joy.
As to have the Lord speak to him through the scriptures.
And from the car years ago, I was very, very struck me in his wonderful power.
Why? God is worth telling me plainly that I've been listening to him, and I was listening to the apostle of our Lord Jesus Christ. It's a wonderful position to occupy our connection.
You know the old person.
On purpose or but the most people went the speaker they come a man took himself to be a prophet.
Our circle leather McNally circle famous desire race, country. You are the commandments of the Lord. Why? What's a good planner? And to read our Bibles with that thought in her mind.
Oh, blessed we are.
When when people was leaving the soon.
According to his own words.
He didn't commit them to his successor, did he?
Commit them.
I'd look at it in his epistle.
2nd epistle in the first chapter.
And the 14th verse.
Second Peter, 114.
Knowing that shortly I must put off this my Tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ has told me.
Moreover, I will endeavor that she may be the after my deceit.
To have these things always in remembrance.
And then it goes on down to the 19th verse.
We have also a more sure word of prophecy, where until you do well, that you take heed as unto a light that shine us in the dark place, until the day dawn and the day star rise in your heart.
Knowing this first, that no prophecy is pictures of any private interpretation.
The Prophet they came not in old time, but the will of man, but poorly men of God this December, moved by the Holy Ghost.
Peter says not don't.
Don't expect to follow my successor, but follow the word Word of God.
Who is the one that tells us that? I believe that's very significant.
My father was leaving me 20th of actually did the train didn't Yes he did. I commend you that God from the word of his grace.
What I was going to say was comments on the fact that some Bibles are called Red Letter edition Bible but if they had the word that the large spoken count while he was here on earth in red letters.
And there are many encryptions today who who took that good word to be more important than the words that were spoken and written by the apostle. But it's all the word of God. It's all been indicted by the Spirit of God.
And to pretend to give more respect to the actual words of the Lord than to the other parts of Scripture.
Is to be the same because it's all the words of God.
Dropping away.
To discriminate between the words spoken by the Lord Jesus and those whom He personally inspired to give us His thoughts of mine.
00:20:10
To subgraphs of this.
Well, that's something for us to do, remember.
And Peter was anxious that they would have these things all over them.
Not something.
Not someone to whom they were to look.
Just what they've heard to go back to the beginning.
Brendan and Mary, we read it.
The more we meditate upon it.
The more will be preserved and spirit from the world.
And from every entanglement that they offer.
If we knew the word better, we would have an answer for everything that comes up.
No Christian can make an error in his life.
Of a spiritual or moral character without running through one of God's red lights to make it.
Every pitfall is my job. The warning is there.
And we got to ride right past the morning if you're going to make that blunder.
Call the young person with.
Some had enamored with a.
A young person of the opposite sex who is not saved was not a believer.
What would it mean if I would respect the person would go before the Lord and ask for wisdom? What to do?
Well, it's kind of impressed in the Word of God.
Why should I ask the Lord to tell me specifically what to do when he's already missed this point?
If your hand if you have the apostle Paul.
Sitting right here on one of these chairs in this movie this afternoon.
He couldn't give us one bit more light on the will of God than they've got right here in this book. Not one little thing. It was given to him. They had to complete the word of God. The whole reveals scope of God's will for man was finished when Paul laid down his tent. Now that's not saying that what Paul wrote was the last thing that was written because we know.
After Paul. But Paul sent out the full outline of God's ways with man on the earth.
Now, if we had Paul and John and Peter right here in the meeting this afternoon, they couldn't possibly bring out one truth that isn't found in this book.
And let's have to refer to is Collections 125 Business about completing the Word of God. Read it, brother.
Process whereas I made a minister according to the dispensation of God, which is given to me for you to fulfill or complete the word of God.
There were another passage from Peter.
Connection with the one of the other Mr. Brown gave it.
In the third property says respect and the pistol.
Beloved, I now write unto you in both, which I stir up your poor mind, but.
Way of remembrance. Now this is the verse. Let be no be mindful of the word.
Which were written before by the Holy Prophet and.
Of the.
Commandments are.
Purpose of the Lord and Savior. The pictures built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets.
They speak with a service. Christ is the chief cornerstone. But I can remember another case and when.
00:25:06
With the one injured, his sister was brought to my attention. He doesn't.
Point us forward to teachers who would come later. Every point was bad.
So that it was spoken by the Prophet.
And the commandment of us, the apostles, now we've got those who are saying, Brother Brown, we got those today, just literally as if the parcel for the prophet did before and repeated these things, do it for the first time.
Wonderful privilege.
It's amazing and shows how very real the apostasy is in its present expression that men are giving up the very thing that the parcel Peter was so anxious that we could not overlook. We've got it, we've got it. Oh, thank God for that.
This thing is come to Apostolic prescription is in Second Tennessee, the 2nd chapter.
And it's a far cry from this verse.
So what is the heralded around us in kissing them as being Apostolic succession?
And here's the nearest thing to get to it.
Second Timothy 2000 Therefore, my son, be strong and grace that is enticed people.
And the things that thou hast heard of me, the things that thou has heard of me, that Paul the apostle.
He's telling Timothy now, Timothy, you pass on the things you've heard of me.
Among many witnesses.
The same thing slipped out of faith from there. Now there's not anything added there, is it?
Who who shall be able the teachers also nothing added, is it Paul says you teach just what I've talked to Timothy. We'll give that to faithful men. You see that they keep just what you taught them that I taught you and then they had to pass that on to others of the biblical just what I taught you that you taught them that they taught them.
Now that's the nearest thing and the only thing.
That God sanctions that savers of any Apostolic success in the talk and it does not.
For learned men, educated men, men training for the minister themselves, with faithful men.
There's a great difference.
Known I graduated from distinguished colleges and I get degrees from for their learning and their their given.
To whom we should listen.
1St.
Men who honor the Word of God and work by it. One of the most profound pictures in the Word of God under whom I ever sat in my life, and I sat under him for years.
Was a filmmaker by trade. I think he had the equivalent of an eighth grade education.
But I sat in his feet like a baby, and I thank God for the memory of his speaking.
But since we have the written scriptures, that isn't passing it on by word of mouth. No, no, that was for them before the scriptures were printed.
Now we have it all in the list of work.
And we need this sense of terror, especially the young people that come against all things of earth. If they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them, no.
Absolutely rejected at the contrary to this work.
Don't tampaway. Don't palliate.
Another mark of.
The present apostrophe this is a. It showed itself earlier.
But let me put it this way, doesn't your heart or work from the start of a term like zoologist? Theologist. What is theology mean?
00:30:11
Well, it means teaching the knowledge of God well.
Isn't it, if it doesn't ask for a blast for mayor's predecessor, this piece of a creature teaching the knowledge of God?
For me, I think nothing disturbs my mind so much just to hear people keep of a doctor of theology.
Well, but that's what regretful. That's what is exhausted.
It's made much of and we pour ignoramuses but don't know anything but our Bibles.
We have no degrees at all unless it's from God.
Wonderful Assad word settled in heaven and heaven and earth have passed away, but my word shall not pass away. We can count on God's word.
To abide forever.
The science Physiology is just as better geology.
Yeah.
I remember.
In the first couple ministers seeking to assist her at the Lord's Table and she tried to point out to him some of the things that he was guilty of as a clergyman.
And he gave an answer.
I don't think we knew what he was saying when he said it, but he said the blue people, you cast the pearls before spring.
Well, it is just said, but I didn't think you were one of those flames.
All the fun of your first strangers to a beloved again, doesn't it?
We just find it out.
Yeah, I make one remark, Brother Wilson, before going back from his birth.
These are the days who separate themselves, natural men having not to fit. Now that's exactly the classic men that our brother Brathwaite has been talking about.
Unsaved theologians.
That no, I'm not saying that all theologians are unsaved, you know.
But unsaved theologians setting themselves up to judge the word of God and not letting the word of God done them, but they set themselves up to judge the word of God, and yet they're just natural men. They do not have the Spirit of God. Well, how can a man that has not the Spirit of God?
How can he discern the mind of God in the Word of God? It's impossible.
And that is one of the serious drawbacks.
In connection with the recent addition of the revised.
The version of the revised standard version of the 50.
Is the fact that it seems evident that some of the men, I don't say all of them.
The men that were on that board gave no evidence of being converted at all.
Not so many.
Having not the Spirit, these were they who separate themselves, that is, they take a superior position. They're handing down their findings, extra figures from the chair of their authority as ecclesiastical preachers, and we're supposed to take it because they say it not so long having not to stay.
Very for them when you're referring to us might take a look at it. It's a powerful verse.
First sentence 2:14 to give to those who tell us that don't get anything out of reading the Bible. Can't understand it, can't figure it out, don't know what it means.
Well, that's the reason to explain. Very unfortunately. First print in 214, but the natural man.
Receive us not the things of the Spirit of God.
Because.
00:35:03
That provides standard version to which you refer.
Well.
As many errors in it.
Through the lack of spiritual comprehension.
But it was just a short time ago that I was handed.
A commended Peril article on Revised Standard Version by a man who claims to have been a fundamentalist.
And he was criticizing those who dared to criticize the RSP.
And branded them as ignorant.
Because he says how what a man needs to translate the Bible is the knowledge of the language and a little ability.
Now that is just what we do is talking about.
I don't know. It doesn't make any difference, let's put it that way. It doesn't make any difference how much education a man may have.
It doesn't make any difference how much native ability we have.
If he's trying to understand the word of God, on that he will serve because it requires the Spirit of God to understand the things of them.
Another man that attempts it will Plumb.
God did not see unsaved man to write the Bible.
They were a holy man of God and they felt it moved by the Holy Spirit. He did not choose profane men to give us the Bible.
The Lord Jesus gives an answer to the Pharisees and Luke 1650.
One of those translators is you.
Yeah, well.
Just think of it and he undertakes.
The word of God.
Luke 1650 And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men, but God knows your heart.
For that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.
Changing the commandments of God, that is the word of God, the commandments of men. And I was thinking of in connection with Brother Brown David in Second Timothy 3.
Versus 1616 and 17 would confirm, my brother has stated.
And if the capture similar to that which we have before from Jude and very dark picture in the beginning of the chapter, but that will that which will keep the sound of God through the womb.
Verse 15 we have this.
All scriptures. First of all we got able to mention wines under salvation through faith, which is in quite feasible.
Then all scripture is given by inspiration of God and it's possible for doctrine for recruits.
For corruption, For instruction in righteousness. What's the name? What's the purpose? That the man of God may be complete, fully fitted through every good work. Boy, finish. God has not left us without a resource.
And his resource for us today with His word is unsangeable word.
That's important we see that brother Rosen will not capture the second coming with the 6th relax so and ends with faculty celebrable and still and cannot change.
The word of God.
In my heart and telling them according to the word not we get that into the world, but we see so much of today.
138 from the 1St.
Word above all his name. That's a marvelous expression.
The best man will I look to him that is of a poor and concrete spirit and families of my work, Yeah.
00:40:07
Doesn't that bring out the fat brother work? And God speaks the man who doesn't speak for his intellect, who speaks to his country.
God relations with man depend upon the scope and it's his conference or not his influence. He may have a brilliant influence and have a very bad concern.
I was thinking that some young people recently.
And I said I if I had a sharp knife in my pocket.
When I pulled it out and I said it for you and I gave you a long story about how short it is.
Nothing. You've heard it clear like a job with it.
And if man will allow the Word of God to lose Wisconsin leaders, the word of God, it is better than good work.
I.
I think there are three things that are given to us in the Word of God concerning the Spirit and so much with the work.
Driven by the spirit and car was careful that went forth in words of the Spirit, and it is understood by the Spirit that right, yes.
International food. I would like to read 2 verses the Old Testament.
Our verse 19 says that Z.
Delayed to separate themselves.
Not still as the thought.
Have you not received?
I take it.
That evening at early days.
Care of God.
Recognize.
Any people that have gotten in amongst them?
You are listening and setting themselves up in a special class.
And that food would be good for our daily in Christendom when there is a special class of of merger. They are educated in religious things in their school. But they do set themselves up as we might say, noise that all people must have thirsty and missing listen to them.
And that way they make a special class above the people.
Now there's two verses, one is in some distance.
And 15.
The second line of the verse.
What hast thou to do to declare my statue?
Verse everything.
My word.
Rise up and.
They're really instead of being faithful in the Word of God.
They they really set aside. Now I do not need the word to do so, but I think that that is the truth here and that it is such a thing and we see it on every hand today. Now another verse is an end of Isaiah 56.
00:45:03
Very soon.
Who Watchmen are blind?
Yes, a natural moment have not disturbed his Watchmen are blind.
We are all Indian that is spiritually serving.
We are all.
Don't know. Don't notice how that word dumb starts with the mom starts with the D.
There is such a thing as a genie.
But nevertheless, there is a list. Now, that doesn't mean it says it all itself, alright.
And they're pushing, lying down, loving the plumber here they are greedy dogs that they love doing like feelings which they never have enough. And they are Peppers that can not understand.
They all look to their own way.
Everyone for his view from his father.
Come, you say, there I love it. Why, we will kill ourselves a strong dream, and tomorrow shall be as this day.
Everyone is going to be all right. Everything continued. Because it's good.
And much more abundant.
That is the character of the of our verse 19.
Get on the plane.
No going on.
Surrounded by a very apostrophe.
Yeah, they have a nice word over 16.
Thus said the Lord.
Then get in the way and kill.
And that for the old past.
Or is a good way and walk there in ye shall find rest for your soul.
To the word of God, to the apostles who walked the path with the Lord Jesus Christ.
The world is a lamp to our feet and a lake to our past. Brother Alexander. Electrical path they don't walk. A dark path they got late on.
That's the old half, isn't it?
Yes you can.
Make a step further, step to the Word of God and still have reason of what's ahead.
My brother this morning.
The second chapter of the first particular ground is traffic. We have heard from the beginning abiding you, the officers are continuing the Father and in the Son. That's what is being given up is what was the old that God set up.
And everything that God has ever fed up and they're connected to the responsibility of man. Man has made a fair ruin of it fails completely and everything well wonderful that we have and how we should praise God that which was from the beginning.
Well, in the beginning.
And that's the thing with most exercises.
And I very serious Harris that goes out among the tents of God some years ago and sister him trying to.
Discriminate.
The voice of the good sufferences is it that it was from the beginning which we have believed, which we have followed.
00:50:07
I think that's most important, but I don't think of all we've heard today is anything much more important.
And I have our ears open and to be able to reserve God and who cares and not a man that refers things to men and doesn't follow what is of God. What was from the beginning that man was doing this man and also being opposed.
About that funniest move.
Building up yourselves on your most holy sense.
We're dealing with a chapter here or chapter deals with us here that doesn't.
I'd be a pastor again, and we see it all about it.
Well, I want to let our hands hand hang down.
You know, there is such a thing as talking about the ruin in such a way as to become the stood and the.
It's very good.
That the Spirit of God doesn't give us a description of the ruin in the last days in order that we might be discouraged.
He says that you, beloved.
Building up your style.
Most holy faith.
There's that time of affection again, beloved.
And something more to do.
Well, first we were to remember.
That is the 17. Remember that which was heard in the beginning. Don't depart from.
Time for building up? Yes, it's a time for soil that build up itself on its most important.
James from the Lovers of God.
This verse brings out a better you belong building up yourselves on your most old now how are we going to do it?
But.
By reading the word of God silly. By doing with the meetings where the word of God is.
Everybody and the next class tells us the rest of it, the part of it more than the early day.
Rather, there's not a physical surgery.
Even if we come into some persecution.
The word of God remain on things.
We can be thrown up on our most holy face and there is my shift. It's possible to interest them, to make spiritual progress no matter what's going on.
Building up yourselves on the most holy face.
Then we have planning in the Holy Ghost brought in. Would you comment on quiet air that almost universally among us.
That's why I didn't say universally, but almost universally among us.
Are you doing that? So much better attending than our primary. Did you comment on that?
Well.
You can tell you can feel the part of the meeting. Better experiment than it is waiting me.
And the term illness has not been neglected, and they do so of our own law.
He's dangerous, the apostles.
The family was told to watch and pray. Well they be watched and they be pray and they deny the Lord that they killed it and the other one was disturbed.
Wonderfully well and just a practical suggestion.
To be waved anyhow.
That if it's impractical to get out to all the meetings.
Most of our gatherings have a gospel Lord's Day evening or some meeting large evening.
And then we have a reading meeting and we have a premium.
00:55:00
Now these are regular meetings that are held and move to root and maybe other extra meetings come in.
But now hitting it on the basis of those three meetings.
Would it not be well if it's impractical for us to get out?
To all are moving.
If in place of traditional length, staying away from the prayer meeting.
Is it all the name?
Let's go one week to the prayer meeting and the next week to the rain.
So I'm not advocating this, you know, I believe that we can put grace from God to be founded everywhere.
But I believe it's a great mistake to get out of touch with the prayer meeting.
I thoroughly thanking what Brother Wilson has just told us, that the family is the positively assembly.
Where we get down on our knees and pour out our hearts before the Lord.
As to those things that concern us corporately?
And I do plead for the prayer meeting. You young folks don't think the prayer is just for the old truth. The old brother don't get that idea.
Who founded the brand new?
Now in the morning.
We have some not too long converted.
Young people.
And it's such they're not found at the prayer meeting. We're asking what the matter was going for tonight.
What does that show?
It says that they'll have victims and when they're not there, the empty chair.
That perhaps something is wrong in the home. Perhaps they're I'll or something would happen.
But isn't it a sad thing that there are others?
If they should appear to family, there might be some comment made afterwards.
Did you know that SO and Soul is at comparing them tonight?
Well, this is sad, young folks.
It's it's sad for all of us that it's enough just to go to bring your bread and maybe the Linda movie and never occurred to us that we should be found on our knees of the prayer meeting. This verse says praying in the Holy Ghost. Well, I don't mean to limit this to the prayer meeting. I think we don't have to go to prayer to pray. I don't mean that.
But collective prayer has a large space in the scripture.
And let's not discount it, it's such a fear and encouragement to go there and hear the prayers of our brethren we lifted into the Lord's presence. It warms our souls.
Some years ago.
Some people when they get into trouble and right they cut up and they say pray for me with the prayer meeting.
