The famous English lawyer, William Ewart Gladstone, called the Bible, "The Impregnable Rock of Holy Scripture." That is an apt description. It is the Word of God as received by the Lord Jesus Christ from His Father. Whosoever heareth and doeth His sayings is likened "unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock." Matt. 7:2424Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: (Matthew 7:24).
All the writings contained in this Book are declared to be "given by inspiration of God." On such divine authority we can take this volume as God's gift for sin-troubled hearts. Let us consider then what this holy Book teaches as to the good news proclaimed in the gospel: It is the "GLORIOUS GOSPEL of the BLESSED GOD." 1 Tim. 1:1111According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust. (1 Timothy 1:11).
It is more glorious in its work and results than all the marvels of creation. It is the ONLY GOSPEL.
"Neither is there salvation in any other." Acts 4:1212Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. (Acts 4:12). It is folly to despise it; and yet, what a SIMPLE GOSPEL!
"Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved." Acts 16:3131And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. (Acts 16:31). This message is given to repentant sinners who will find it a POWERFUL GOSPEL. "It is the POWER OF GOD UNTO SALVATION TO EVERY ONE THAT BELIEVETH." Rom. 1:1616For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. (Romans 1:16).
Its efficacy is not only for TIME, but its RESULTS ARE ETERNAL.
The good news of God's gospel in His holy word assures believers in Christ of an eternal salvation; but the opportunity of its acceptance is limited in proclamation. "BEHOLD, NOW IS THE ACCEPTED TIME; BEHOLD, NOW IS THE DAY OF SALVATION." 2 Cor. 6:22(For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succored thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.) (2 Corinthians 6:2).
