The Maker of the universe
As Man, for man was made a curse.
The claims of Law which He had made,
Unto the uttermost He paid.

His holy fingers made the bough,
Which grew the thorns that crowned His brow;
The nails that pierced His hand were mined,
In secret places He designed.

He made the forest from whence there sprung
The tree on which His body hung;
He died upon a cross of wood,
Yet made the hill on which it stood.

The sky that darkened o'er His head,
By Him above the earth was spread.
The sun that hid from Him its face,
By His decree was poised in space.

The spear which spilled His precious blood
Was tempered in the fires of God.
The grave in which His form was laid
Was hewn in rocks His hands had made.

The throne on which He now appears
Was His from everlasting years;
But a new glory crowns His brow,
And every knee to Him shall bow.

This poem by F. W. Pitt has been published under at least two other titles: Humbled and Exalted and This Is the True God. It is not known which title is the original, but these lyrics have, in recent years, apparently become better known under the title which appears on this leaflet.

Friend, do you know the Maker of the universe? You are going to meet Him. That has been pre-determined and already scheduled by God. But there are many people who will meet Him but who will never know Him. The following grand words were written by the Apostle John to his fellow believers in Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Believe them and be ready, and be safe, and be saved forever:

‘In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. … And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. … And this is the record that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life. … And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding that we may know Him that is true, and we are in Him that is true, even in His Son, Jesus Christ.
