We Earn Wages & Receive Gifts

We receive gifts.

“The Gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 6:23

We earn wages.

“The wages of sin is death.” Romans 6:23

A Gospel sign was put in front of a Gospel hall on Bloor Street in Toronto several years ago. A bank manager, hurrying by, saw only the words, “The wages of sin is death.” This interested him because money and wages were familiar to him. The words went through his mind all day, and he could not shake them off. His wife thought he was sick and suggested he go to a doctor. The next day the bank manager drove back to the Gospel sign and read the rest of the verse: “but the gift of God is eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:23). He was thrilled to read that God did not only judge sinners, but that God has offered a free gift, eternal  life through His Son, Jesus. A joy and peace came upon him. A few days later he attended a Gospel meeting and for the first time heard God’s way of salvation. He accepted the Lord. Yes, the miracle of God’s Word still works.
