(villages of Jair). Villages in Gilead or Bashan (Num. 32:41⁴¹And Jair the son of Manasseh went and took the small towns thereof, and called them Havoth-jair. (Numbers 32:41); Deut. 3:14¹⁴Jair the son of Manasseh took all the country of Argob unto the coasts of Geshuri and Maachathi; and called them after his own name, Bashan-havoth-jair, unto this day. (Deuteronomy 3:14)).

This signifies “towns of Jair.” They were in “the country of Argob unto the coasts of Geshuri and Maachathi”; and were also called Bashan-havoth-jair (Deut. 3:14¹⁴Jair the son of Manasseh took all the country of Argob unto the coasts of Geshuri and Maachathi; and called them after his own name, Bashan-havoth-jair, unto this day. (Deuteronomy 3:14)). They were small towns of Gilead (Num. 32:41⁴¹And Jair the son of Manasseh went and took the small towns thereof, and called them Havoth-jair. (Numbers 32:41)). The same are called “towns of Jair” in Joshua 13:30³⁰And their coast was from Mahanaim, all Bashan, all the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, and all the towns of Jair, which are in Bashan, threescore cities: (Joshua 13:30); 1 Kings 4:13¹³The son of Geber, in Ramoth-gilead; to him pertained the towns of Jair the son of Manasseh, which are in Gilead; to him also pertained the region of Argob, which is in Bashan, threescore great cities with walls and brazen bars: (1 Kings 4:13) and 1 Chron. 2:23²³And he took Geshur, and Aram, with the towns of Jair, from them, with Kenath, and the towns thereof, even threescore cities. All these belonged to the sons of Machir the father of Gilead. (1 Chronicles 2:23). The name occurs again in Judges 10:4⁴And he had thirty sons that rode on thirty ass colts, and they had thirty cities, which are called Havoth-jair unto this day, which are in the land of Gilead.
