Horeb

Listen from:
Shepherd with flocks before Mt. Horeb.
A mount closely connected with Sinai, and supposed to embrace the range of mountains lying about 28° 30' N, between the Gulf of Suez and the Gulf of Akaba, whereas Sinai is one of the mountain peaks. Horeb was called “the mountain of God” (Ex. 3:11Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father in law, the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb. (Exodus 3:1)). It was where God had intercourse with Moses, and where He made a covenant with Israel. Near here also the golden calf was set up (Ex. 17:66Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel. (Exodus 17:6); Ex. 33:66And the children of Israel stripped themselves of their ornaments by the mount Horeb. (Exodus 33:6); Deut. 1:2,6,192(There are eleven days' journey from Horeb by the way of mount Seir unto Kadesh-barnea.) (Deuteronomy 1:2)
6The Lord our God spake unto us in Horeb, saying, Ye have dwelt long enough in this mount: (Deuteronomy 1:6)
19And when we departed from Horeb, we went through all that great and terrible wilderness, which ye saw by the way of the mountain of the Amorites, as the Lord our God commanded us; and we came to Kadesh-barnea. (Deuteronomy 1:19)
; Deut. 4:10,1510Specially the day that thou stoodest before the Lord thy God in Horeb, when the Lord said unto me, Gather me the people together, and I will make them hear my words, that they may learn to fear me all the days that they shall live upon the earth, and that they may teach their children. (Deuteronomy 4:10)
15Take ye therefore good heed unto yourselves; for ye saw no manner of similitude on the day that the Lord spake unto you in Horeb out of the midst of the fire: (Deuteronomy 4:15)
; Deut. 29:11These are the words of the covenant, which the Lord commanded Moses to make with the children of Israel in the land of Moab, beside the covenant which he made with them in Horeb. (Deuteronomy 29:1); Psa. 106:1919They made a calf in Horeb, and worshipped the molten image. (Psalm 106:19)). See SINAI.
