Immediate Forgiveness

MANY who speak much of forgiveness like to place it beyond their reach so that they may not obtain immediate and certain possession of it; for that would interfere with their self-righteous efforts to work or to pray themselves into the favor of God. If I am forgiven simply in believing the record which God has given of His Son, then all such efforts are superseded and set aside. I will still work, but it will be the working of happy, grateful love. I will still pray, but my praying will be the child—like breathings of the spirit of adoption-the unbosoming of my "enlarged heart" to a God known in grace.
