Instructions
Open each of the *final.indd files (of the months to print) and check:
Fonts to make sure they are not type 1 fonts. Indesign Menu > Type > Find Font
Type 1 fonts will show up as a red a in the find font dialog box in Indesign.
Change to equivalent font in opentype or truetype font. Note: it may even show up as a type 1 font even though it is an .otf file.
(Note: Keep your font library up to date and stay away from type 1 fonts. Old and out of date. Causes many problems.)
Update any missing / out of date links.
Open the imposition file (folder path mentioned above) and update the links to the new final.indd files to be printed.
Check and make sure there are no errors in prepress (Should end up being a green button at bottom of screen)
(*Note: There may be font issues. If this happens go to the original files and try again)
Print a 12x18 (or 13x19) proof sheet. (If using the c7000, use “12x18 Press Proof” preset)
Once it’s printed, make sure color bars on the front and back line up (this usually shows that it’s printed correctly)
By line up, I mean that if holding the sheet to the light, they’re both on the same side of the page.
Give to production manager.
If approved, produce rip files.
Print with “Adast 755 DI” Print Preset (Printer: PostScript File. PPD: Presstek DI)
Settings should be previously saved
Save file in: \\btp.local\shared\Production\RIP Input
Try to keep file name to six characters with no spaces. ie. 2107EG (Translation: 2021 Set 7 of EG). After RIP, it will often tack on the iteration it successfully saved as. So 2107EG will be 2107EG00
Make sure PC-Pressroom has Pearl Rip software running. (User: Tim, Password: ______ Ask Tim to login for you)
Pearl Rip depends on a mapped network drive (R:\ I believe). It points to \\di_server4\bitmaps? {SAR update: appears to be \\di_server4\d\
Since the di_server4 is hosted pc-pressroom, the VM gets started after pc-pressroom has already tried to map the network drives.
If R:\ isn’t accessible, make sure that the \\di_server4 is started (vmware)
If R:\ is still not accessible, disconnect the drive, and reattach it. {SAR update to disconnect the drive, right click on the R:\ drive and choose something like dismount or disconnect. Then right click on the C:\ drive and choose Map Network Drive ... It will give a choice of drive letters so pick R: Then there should be a drop down of possibilities where you can choose \\di_server4\d\ Once that’s done the DI Rip appears to generate subfolders \output\bitmaps all by itself. But if you’ve already selected them then you’ll need to dig deep down to said folders and cut and paste them back up the tree in the drive location that the Prism GUI is looking for (or at least the traditional file path that it shows in the interface when it boots.}
The two options are:
10.1.10.127
di_server4
and make sure to use the correct bitmaps folder.
(My memory is fuzzy on exactly what points to where, but it’s 90+% right)
In the DI Rip menu bar there’s an option called Output Controller. This opens a popup Monitor. The popup window has a checkbox for Disable Output. It’s a good idea to leave this box checked until the RIP has generated all the necessary CMYK files. When done the box can be unchecked and it will move the large files over where the Prism GUI will be able to see them. If this process is running simultaneously with the RIP process then everything tends to get a bit “cranky”. (See #8 for the same thought in fewer words.)
I typically pause the output till the job has been ripped. (RIP’ed?) It seems to be a little more flexible / hang less. After it’s ripped, and in the queue, I un-pause the output.

To Update a Pamphlet Body
Using Haggai, by H. Smith (#4654) as the example
Make changes and save the original .indd body file
Location: X:\Print & Ebook Projects\Pamphlets-Booklets\Haggai-HSmith-4654\ 4654—Product—Haggai—Body\4654—Product—Haggai-Final.indd
The ‘root’ folder is in bold above. Its where all other pamphlet project folders should go.
Save file
Export new PDF from the body file
If this is a newer template with a ‘dummy’ cover:
Use MechGens to do this. Book -> 1 Up
If this is an older template, just export the pdf, using “High Quality Print(1200)”
Rename the pdf to be the item number
4654.pdf
Move production file based on Size:
If it’s a normal sized pamphlet (5.5x8.5)
Move the exported pdf to the production folder
X:\Production\Pamphlets\Bodies\Pamphlet\4654.pdf
Overwrite any pre-existing files with the same name.
If it’s a mini-pamphlet (5.5x3.75)
Open LineUp and create the imposed PDF
Tools
Impose Book/Pam/Etc.

To Update a Book Body
Using Nobody Loves Me, by O.F. Walton (#12008) as the example
Note: A full bleed image extends or "bleeds" to the edges of a page so that the image completely covers the entire page and does not show borders or white space around the edges.
Update and save the final body file in the corresponding Print & Ebooks folder:
X:\Print & Ebook Projects\Books\Nobody Loves Me-OFWalton-12008\12008—Product—Nobody Loves Me – Body\12008—Product—Nobody Loves Me.indd
Do a PageUp in MechGens
INDD Functions
Books
4up PDF
This will auto select “Product”, “List of IDs” and “Generate Indd Outputs”
Verify folder (cb note: I’m not sure what this means, but it was in Megan’s notes)
Run
Select “Same as Input”
For the Input File
Click search, and open the .indd file that was modified
After 4up file is created:
Verify at least the following:
The last page matches the text on the original .indd’s last page.
Skim through for any images. These tend to have problems.
Look at several chapter pages, and check that they start where the TOC says they do.
If any of these were wrong:
The following notes are from memory ...
Use MechGens to export a pdf, with the parameter 'ProdTest~Test' in the Overrides textbox
