Descendants of Korah, the grandson of Kohath. The two principal offices assigned to them were the service of song, and keeping the doors of the sanctuary (Ex. 6:24²⁴And the sons of Korah; Assir, and Elkanah, and Abiasaph: these are the families of the Korhites. (Exodus 6:24); Num. 26:58⁵⁸These are the families of the Levites: the family of the Libnites, the family of the Hebronites, the family of the Mahlites, the family of the Mushites, the family of the Korathites. And Kohath begat Amram. (Numbers 26:58); 1 Chron. 9:19,31¹⁹And Shallum the son of Kore, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah, and his brethren, of the house of his father, the Korahites, were over the work of the service, keepers of the gates of the tabernacle: and their fathers, being over the host of the Lord, were keepers of the entry. (1 Chronicles 9:19)
³¹And Mattithiah, one of the Levites, who was the firstborn of Shallum the Korahite, had the set office over the things that were made in the pans. (1 Chronicles 9:31); 1 Chron. 12:6⁶Elkanah, and Jesiah, and Azareel, and Joezer, and Jashobeam, the Korhites, (1 Chronicles 12:6); 1 Chron. 26:1¹Concerning the divisions of the porters: Of the Korhites was Meshelemiah the son of Kore, of the sons of Asaph. (1 Chronicles 26:1); 2 Chron. 20:19¹⁹And the Levites, of the children of the Kohathites, and of the children of the Korhites, stood up to praise the Lord God of Israel with a loud voice on high. (2 Chronicles 20:19)).
