Many years ago a man was on a train in England which was travelling quickly between the cities of Glasgow and Bradford. The train arrived at a junction where one track headed to Bradford off the main track. In order to keep to a very tight schedule, the train company had come up with a way to let part of the train keep travelling at full speed to Glasgow without stopping, while part of it got left behind to go to Bradford. As they came to this junction, the Bradford cars were instantly disconnected from the main body of the train, which then continued on to Glasgow at 50 miles an hour. This left the cars going to Bradford, after they slowed down, standing on the train track.
The passengers waiting on the tracks were concerned. As far as they knew, the connection to the other part of the train had just broken, leaving them behind. A young man put his head out the window and said, “We are left behind. I see the train going around the curve!” For all they knew, some other train might come any minute and crash right into them.
Did you know that the Lord Jesus is going to come one day very soon to take all who love Him to heaven to be with Him forever? This will happen very quickly. “In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye” (1 Corinthians 15:5252In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. (1 Corinthians 15:52)), the Bible says. We don’t know when it will happen, but we know it will happen. How sad it would be if anyone reading this story would be left behind, as they realize that those they know who are believers in Jesus have gone to be with Him forever!
For those on the train in our story, this uncomfortable situation only lasted a few minutes, as another engine soon came down the track to pull them to Bradford. But for anyone left behind when the Lord Jesus comes, there will be no happy ending to their story. Be sure you are “connected” to the Lord Jesus by faith in His finished work for you, so that you will be among those who go to be with Him when He comes.
