The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city.
This woman (whose name is not recorded in Scripture) had gone to a well outside town to get water. Why, then, did she leave her waterpot there and go back home without it? Because she had found the source for her eternal satisfaction in this Man who had talked with her. He was indeed the Messiah, and much more than the Messiah. He had filled the emptiness of her heart that had never been filled by anything or anyone else. Jesus totally satisfied the thirsting of her soul and so she left her waterpot where it was and went to spread her glad news to others in the town. “Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?”
