Concise Bible Dictionary:

1. Daughter of Ishmael and wife of Esau (Gen. 28:99Then went Esau unto Ishmael, and took unto the wives which he had Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael Abraham's son, the sister of Nebajoth, to be his wife. (Genesis 28:9)). See BASHEMATH.
2. Daughter of Jerimoth and wife of Rehoboam (2 Chron. 11:1818And Rehoboam took him Mahalath the daughter of Jerimoth the son of David to wife, and Abihail the daughter of Eliab the son of Jesse; (2 Chronicles 11:18)).
3. Name in the title of Psalm 53. Its meaning is not known. Some suppose that a mournful tune is referred to, or that it was written for a time of sorrow. Gesenius takes it as a harp or stringed instrument.
