After doing the wonderful works (recorded in chapters 8-9), the Lord Jesus chooses 12 of His disciples. They were sent with the power He gave them to do the same wonderful works that He did. They were to go to the lost people of the house of Israel to preach, to heal, to cleanse, to raise the dead, and to cast out devils. He gave freely; they like Him were to be givers, not takers.
They were going for Him, and it would be a serious test for those they were going to present Him to. They were identified with Him and presenting Him to the people by what they said and did. If they were received, He was received. If they were rejected, He was being rejected. Terrible judgment would fall upon those who rejected Him in rejecting them.
But they were being tested too. You are doing this “for My name’s sake.” I am hated; you are My servants, so you will be hated too. But “fear them not”; you are valuable to Me and I will speak of you to My Father. But you must put Me first, above everything else and above everyone else. If you lose your life for My sake, you will find it. You will, in the end, receive your reward. Are you willing to give up everything for Him?
