194. May the Savior's Love and Merit

8,7.
by P. Doddridge
1
May the Savior’s love and merit

Fill our hearts both night and day,

And the unction of His Spirit

All our thoughts and actions sway.
“But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.” (1 John 2:20)
2
May we thus, in God confiding,

And from self-dependence free,

Find our rest — in Christ abiding —

Till with joy Himself we see.
“But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead.” (2 Corinthians 1:9)
“Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.” (Matthew 11:29)
“Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep.” (John 10:7)
“Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy.” (Jude 24)
