Hello Children,
Today I would like tell you about our cat Mittens and our dog Cricket. You’ve already met Cricket, but I don’t think I’ve said very much about Mittens. She is five years old, and Cricket is three years old. But first of all, they are good friends and get along really well. It’s fun to watch them play together. They even eat together, because Gramma always feeds them at the same time every day in the same place.
This day I’m telling you about, I was sitting outside by the door that opens into the hallway, which leads into the kitchen. This is where Gramma feeds them.
It was four o’clock on a bright, sunny afternoon. I was sitting enjoying the sunshine and watching the different birds coming and going to the four bird feeders that are hanging in the tree. Cricket, who was sitting beside me, stood up and moved to the right side of the door that opens into the house. Then I watched as Mittens came up the eight steps and sat down on the left side of the door.
Hmmmm, I thought, This is strange. But as I was sitting watching them, the thought came to me, These two animals are waiting for Gramma to open the door to feed them! I looked at my watch ... Yes it’s four o’clock, and Gramma will feed them anytime now. She never disappoints them, and they know it!
You know, children, just before the Lord Jesus Christ went back to heaven after He was crucified, He told His disciples, “I will come again, and receive you unto Myself; that where I am, there ye may be also” (John 14:3). That was a promise for everyone who has been washed clean from their sins, and the Lord Jesus never breaks a promise. And so Gramma and I are both waiting to hear that call from Him, and it could be today! But now listen carefully: Only those who are saved from their sins will hear His call and go to meet Him. Acts 16:31 tells us, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved.”
And can you guess which two furry creatures were listening for a call from Gramma? At 20 minutes after 4, the door opened, and the three of us heard, “Mittens ... Cricket,” and then ZOOOOM! Right inside the door ran the cat and dog! They both knew what was waiting for them—a feast! What a happy sight to see Mittens and Cricket respond to Gramma’s voice!
Now, what about you? Will you respond to Jesus’ voice when He calls? Are you ready for heaven? The Lord Jesus wants to give you a place in heaven, but are you ready for His call for you? Mittens and Cricket are always on time and waiting for Gramma to open the door and call their names. I am very sad to say that anyone who misses the Lord Jesus’ call will be left behind, never to be allowed into heaven. The only place left for those who miss His call is that terrible place called hell.
Children, make sure you are ready and waiting for that call! Even Mittens and Cricket know how important it is to be ready and waiting.
Lots of love,
Grampa and Gramma
