Psalm 29.
Psalm 29, verse 3.
The voice of the Lord is upon the waters.
The God of glory, Thundereth.
The Lord is upon many waters.
The voice of the Lord is powerful. The voice of the Lord is full of majesty.
The voice of the Lord break at the Cedars.
The Lord breaketh the Cedars of Lebanon. He maketh them also to skip like a calf, Lebanon and Syrian like a young Unicorn.
The voice of the Lord divided the flames of fire.
The voice of the Lord shaketh the wilderness.
The Lord shaketh the wilderness of Kadesh, the voice of the Lord make it the Hinds, the calves, and discovereth the forest, and in his temple that everyone speak.
00:05:00
Of His glory.
From our hymn we had.
In the fourth verse.
Childlike Attend.
What thou wilt say?
I was taking up these verses in the 29th Psalm in connection with the voice of the Lord.
Mentioned seven times the voice of the Lord, but it is a voice.
Thundering in power and majesty and commanding and a voice to which none will resist. Ever.
I've enjoyed this distinction, you know, in considering in the word.
Different taught from the word of the Lord and the Voice of the Lord.
In our Bibles, the words are written when the Lord speaks, but we don't hear.
The tone of his voice.
Some of us have commanding voices.
My brother Bob has a good voice.
Others have meaker voices, you might say.
But they might say the same thing, and they might say it in the same tone. For example, if someone with a commanding voice is angry, or someone with a sweeter voice is angry, you'll recognize in their voice that something's bothering them.
So I was thinking of the voice of the Lord here. Childlike, attend what the Lord will say. We need to pay attention to the word of God.
And I wonder if we could also be sensitive to the tone of voice of the Lord. We don't have the tone of voice in the Scripture. We have the words that were said. But I'd like to suggest to you some instances where we have the voice of the Lord, either directly or in type.
And perhaps thought form, and consider perhaps the tone of the Lord's voice.
In what he said and I just have a few of these one is in Genesis and you're familiar with that when?
He came in the garden seeking Adam and Eve.
Verse eight, chapter 3 of Genesis.
And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking.
In the garden, in the cool of the day. And Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the gardens. And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him.
Where art thou?
Now it was the voice of the Lord wasn't breaking the Cedars or thundering, it was the voice of the Lord.
And I don't know what tone of voice he used when he said.
Where art thou?
But I like to think that it was a searching voice.
A voice longing for this creature you placed there. Atom, wanting to enjoy fellowship with him.
In the cool of the evening as he came in the garden.
Where art thou?
And I wonder if we put this question to ourselves this afternoon from the Lord, as you would ask us each one.
Where art thou?
As he looks around Lord's Day morning. As we gathered around himself.
Perhaps some of us will be absent.
Would you hear him ask?
Where art thou?
Then you get another instance.
In the Book of Kings.
First Kings, chapter 19.
When Elijah went to Mahorab, he was discouraged and.
Was in the best of spirits.
We read first Kings 19.
00:10:01
Verse nine And he came thither unto The Cave, and lodged there. And behold, the word of the Lord came to him, and said unto him, Where? What doest thou hear, Elijah? She was the word of the Lord. Here wasn't the voice of the Lord. And he said, I've been very jealous for the Lord God of hosts, for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword, and I even I only am left.
And they seek my life to take it away. And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the Lord. And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and break in pieces the rocks before the Lord. But the Lord was not in the wind.
And after the wind and earthquake, what the Lord was not in the earthquake? And after the earthquake of fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire a still small voice.
And it was so when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering of The Cave. And behold, there came a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou hear?
Elijah.
In the French it says a sweet voice or a soft voice, a subtle soft voice.
No anger.
What dost thou hear?
Elijah.
And we could put ourselves a question here too.
As we put the question before, as he was seeking for Adam, Where art thou? Those that have sent themselves?
Those that are there.
Those that come.
Those that come to conferences.
The question from the Lord.
What doest thou hear?
It's nice to see our friends, our brethren.
But do we come?
To be stirred in our souls, to be refreshed, to be warned in our affections for the Lord Jesus, and to go on a little while more for Him. Well, we could put this question to ourselves. Different.
Perspectives, you might say, on different subjects, but I just want you to notice the.
The softness of the voice, because we have a couple of more I'd like to turn to.
And I believe the voice was something similar.
Let's go to the song of solemn.
Chapter 5.
Spoken are hymn 2.
Of those with dead soup in his sleep from the garden's fair.
I guess those of us and now are living in North America. We live in a garden fair with so much available, so many things to do.
You can be occupied with whatever we want, but God would have us be occupied with the Lord Jesus. So in the second verse.
It says Song of Solomon chapter 5.
Here is solemnite.
The beloved woman, I sleep, but my heart wake it.
It is the voice of my beloved that not saying.
Open to me, my sister, my love, my dove, my undefiled.
For my head is filled with dew, and my locks with the drops of the night.
Here is one whose heart is filled with longing for that dear one.
And coming to North?
I'd just like to parallel that with that verse in Revelation Three well known verse, Chapter 3 of Revelation.
Verse 20.
Behold, I stand at the door and knock.
If any man here my voice.
And open the door.
00:15:00
I've enjoyed it this way, you know?
Spirit of God, having put in that book of the Song of Solomon the affections of the Bridegroom for the bride.
And giving us that same picture here in Revelation chapter 3, Because I know we use this verse in the gospel, but it really is.
For the believers, he's writing to the Church of Laodicea. He's writing to us, you know.
Writing to us.
If any man here my word, no.
My voice.
What is he saying?
And open the door, I will come into him, and will Sup with him and he.
With me.
I believe it's a longing voice, a voice longing for fellowship.
For fellowship with you and with me. Individual fellowship.
If any man anyone.
Hear my voice.
And opened the door. I will come into him, and will Sup with him, and he with me.
Go back to Luke chapter 24.
See, this is the end, Laodicea, just before the Lord comes.
In Luke 24, right at the beginning.
Died.
Few days before just rolls again.
And these disciples had these things so fresh in their minds.
And the Lord Jesus came and walked with these two from Emmaus. Luke chapter 24.
You'll find quite a change here overtime. Luke 24.
Verse 28 And they drew nigh unto the village, whether they went, and he made as though he would have gone further.
You see, he did not, didn't insist to go in, he just made it as if he was going further.
Yet those that he'd been speaking with, their hearts had been so stirred. They were.
They were so drawn to him, it says here, but they constrain him, saying, abide with us, for it is toward evening and a day is far spent. Oh, they wanted him to come in and have fellowship with them, He says here for toward the evening and a day.
Is far spent, O beloved, Is toward the morning and the night is far spent, and he's knocking at the door for fellowship with you and me. What a contrast.
I go back to the Song of Solomon. You'll find something similar in a Song of Solomon when you go to the third chapter of Song of Solomon.
Chapter 3.
Verse One by night on my bed I saw him whom I so loveth. I sought him, but I found him not. I will rise now, and go about the city and the streets and the broadways. I will seek him whom my soul love it. I sought Him, but I found him not. The Watchmen that go about the city found me to whom I said, saw ye him whom I so loveth.
I was but a little.
That I passed from them, but I found him whom my soul loveth.
Well, think of Mary looking for the Lord, and she said in John 20, I believe she said where hast thou put him? Didn't even mention him by name. She had no other object but the Lord, and she would consider everybody else would only be thinking about Him. Where have you put him?
Well, she was seeking here that Sulaiman woman, the one that she loved, and she got up from bed and she walked through the city to find him, because her heart was longing after him.
You know when the Lord says to Ephesus, I was forsaken, my first love. Remember that first love when?
Is he going to every occasion you could where someone would be speaking about the Lord? Read every book you could that was speaking about the Lord? Meet up with everybody you could that would speak to you about the Lord? Because you love them so much. It was so fresh in your affections.
But you go to the fifth chapter of Song of Solomon. What does she say?
Her heart was awake, but she was sleeping.
She answers him, Let's read that over again. I sleep but my heart verse 2 but my heart waked it. It is the voice of my beloved that knock it saying open to me, my sister, my love, my dove, my undefiled oh.
00:20:10
What a heart towards that one. My sister, my love, my dove.
My undefiled oh, my perfect one for my law. My head is filled with dew and my locks with the drops of the night. Oh, you want it to come in? I put off my coat. This is what she answers. I put off my coat.
How shall I put it on? I have washed my feet. How shall I defile them? My beloved put in his hand by the hall of the door, and my bowels were moved for him. I rose up open to my beloved.
She got up too late, he'd gone already.
And she'll be harmed by the guards here. And she'll end up. If you read the rest of the 5th chapter, you'll find that her affections were stirred. And then she starts talking about her beloved and her heart gets fixed on that object for her own heart.
But she didn't answer when he knocked.
Ever done something in your life you were sorry you've done? Or have you missed an occasion in your life you've been sorry you didn't act and it was time to act. You can't undo what's what's done. You know you can't go back. But you know, beloved, today, everyone in this room here, we can hear the Lord knocking His voice pleading with us. He wants fellowship with you and me. He wants to suck with us and us with Him. He wants to.
Do we want that also?
Well, this woman said she loved them. Surely she did.
But you see, she'd put off her clothes or coat or coat and washed her feet. This was her excuse.
I have put off my coat. How shall I put it on?
That quote speaks of testimony.
Elijah, he took his coat and he put it on Elijah, transferring his ministry, you might say. The apostle Paul said he left his coat and throw a hat. And that's where the disciples were the first day of the week, gathered together to remember the Lord. That's where we should be.
As members of that one body Bob was telling us about gathered around the Lord on the first day of the week, continuing on.
In a testimony to the one body gathered to the name of the Lord Jesus, going on you might say with the apostles coat.
But she says here I have put off my coat.
Given up.
On going on together, have you given up?
On the testimony.
How shall I put it on?
It's a hard question, you know, take off your coat.
I took off my coat. How am I going to put it on? Put it on.
Put it on, put it on and it's back on. She could have gotten up and put her coat off.
She said I have washed my feet, how shall I defile them?
Once you wash your feet, you want your feet to stay clean all the time. You know what to do? Stay in bed.
Stay in bed. Your feet are not going to get dirty anymore. The Lord washes our feet daily, but our feet should be getting dirty daily. Not we should defile ourselves, but if we're walking through the world, if we're going out with the gospel, our feet are going to get 30. We might meet up with people with bad language.
Communicate with some we'd rather not communicate with. Go to places we shouldn't be going, but because there's someone there in the hospital or somebody else, we go.
But my feet are so clean I have to stay in bed.
So I've just enjoyed this in connection with the testimony. Those that go on together for the Lord's sake.
And the exercise in the gospel.
That we wouldn't answer as this woman did. I put off my coat. Sure, she loved the Lord. She loved that one, and she ran after Him after it was too late for that occasion. But for you and I today, beloved brethren, it's not too late. The Lord is knocking again. And I can't mimic the voice of the Lord or imagine the tone of His voice, but I believe it is one of these tones that we've seen either. When He's looking for Adam, we're heart down.
What are you doing here? Open, my beloved, my spouse, my dear one, my perfect How he longed for fellowship with you and I. So he says, I stand at the door and knock. Not I'm I've I've come to the door and I'm knocking and I'm going a minute after, like we had in the Song of Solomon. But I stand at the door and I knock and I knock and I knock. How many times has he been knocking? Do your heart's door in mind because he wants that fellowship with me.
00:25:18
Who will answer today? Who will answer his call today? Who will answer his voice and saying Lord?
Come in, come into my life, come into my life in a practical way. Let me spend time on my knees before You in prayer and time in My Word to hear Thy wonderful voice. I will come in to Him and notice the end of the verse. I know I've remarked on this before. I'm just going to close on this.
I will come into him and will Sup.
With him.
I can't get beyond this verse. I would have said, and he will Sup with me. He's going to have the honor of supping with the Lord Jesus. That's not what he says.
He says I will Sup with him. It's his desire for your fellowship. He washed their feet because he wanted them to have part with him, not because they wanted to have part with him, because he wanted them to have part with him. And he wants to have fellowship with you. I will come into him and I will Sup with him and he with me.
The Gospel of John.
First one has to do with the Assembly of God. I should say more an image, a picture of the Assembly of God at the end of time.
Second thought has to do with the beginning of the restoration of a disciple, and the last thought has to do with.
Another disciple with whom?
The Lord can give a blessing to this Church of the end of times. I will ask a brother to help me for translation. Please to come.
We are going to read in the last chapter of John.
3 passages.
First one, the 1St 8 versus.
If they could play all of it.
June 21.
John 21 first eight verses.
After these things, Jesus showed himself again to disciples at the sea of Tiberias, and on the wise showed he himself.
There were together Simon Peter and Thomas called the Dimus, and Netanyahu Cana Ablyali in Galilee, and the sons of Zebedee and two others of his disciples. Simon Peter said unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee. They went forth and entered into a ship immediately, and that night they caught nothing. But when the morning was now come, Jesus stood on the shore. But the disciples knew not that it was Jesus.
Then sent Jesus unto them children.
Have ye any meat? They answered him, No. And he said unto them, Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find They cast therefore. And now they were not able to draw it for the multitude of fishes. Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved said unto Peter, It is the Lord. Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he gird his Fisher's coat unto him, for he was naked, and did cast himself into the sea.
And the other disciples came in a little ship, for they were not far from land, but as it were 200 cubits, dragging the net with fishes. Next passage from verse 15 to.
20 seconds.
John 2115 to 22 So when they had dine, Jesus said to Simon Peter, Simon son of Jonah, lovest thou me more than these? He said unto him, Yeah, Lord, thou knowest that I love thee. He said unto him, Feed my lambs. He said to him again the second time, Simon son of Jonas, lovestone me. He said unto him, Yeah, Lord, thou knowest that I love thee. He said unto him, Feed my sheep.
00:30:06
He said unto him the third time.
Simon son of Jonas lovers, tell me Peter was great because he said unto him the third time.
And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things. Thou knowest that I love thee, Jesus said unto him.
Feed my sheep. Verily, verily, I say unto thee, when thou was young, thou girdest thyself and walkest whither thou wittest. But when thou shalt be all, thou shalt stretch forth thy hand, and another shall gird thee and carry with thee. Carry thee whither thou wouldest not.

Let's turn to the.
Umm.
Turn to the end of Ecclesiastes.
The last few verses of Ecclesiastes.
12Th chapter.
Verse 11.
The words of the wise are as goads and as nails fastened by the masters of assemblies.
Which are given from 1 shepherd.
Which are given from 1 shepherd.
Go over to Peter's epistle.
And believe it's the second epistle.
Two Peter, Chapter one.
And verses 20 and 21.
Knowing this first.
That no prophecy of the Scripture is of any private interpretation.
For the prophecy came not in old time, by the will of man.
But holy men of God.
Spake.
As they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
I've been thinking about the principle in these two scriptures.
And an application of it that perhaps might be helpful to us.
I'm sure that most of us know that verse twenty of two Peter one is often used.
By.
A great religious system to deny that the individual believer has any right to interpret the scriptures.
That the Scriptures must be interpreted by ecclesiastical authority.
That's very far from what it's saying here.
When it says no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
We are being told that you cannot interpret one scripture.
In isolation from any from all other scripture.
Remember, what we read in Ecclesiastes is given by 1 shepherd, by 1 shepherd.
And so the entire word of God has to be brought to bear.
In connection with the interpretation of Scripture because scripture.
The prophecy that is speaking for God.
Came not in old time, by the will of man.
This isn't something put together by man's will.
But holy men of God.
Spake.
As they were moved or carried along by the Holy Spirit.
That's the concept of.
Inspiration that is given to us in this passage.
Now I want to apply that. If I may, let's go over to.
John, Chapter 14.
John, Chapter 14.
00:50:02
In verse 13.
The Lord is speaking to His disciples. This is part of what is commonly called the Upper Room ministry.
And he says, And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do.
That the Father may be glorified in the Son. If he shall ask anything in my name, I will do it.
Wonderful promise, wonderful laying down of a principal.
That encourages us to prayer.
And there are some who would say that's an unqualified promise, that there's nothing that would limit that.
All you have to do is ask in His name and the Lord will do it.
And as I say, without taking away at all from the power of this wonderful scripture.
I want to show that.
No part of scripture is of any private interpretation. You cannot understand this scripture in isolation from other scriptures.
Let's go over to there's a number of things, scriptures that we could look at, but just very quickly.
Let's go over to 1St John chapter 5.
One John 5 and verse 14.
This is given by the same shepherd.
I know the Lord Himself was speaking in John 14, but remember that the Lord was speaking from heaven.
In what we have here in first John. So it's not a different shepherd that's speaking.
It's the same shepherd.
Verse 14 And this is the confidence that we have in him.
That if we ask anything. And here comes an additional thought according to his will.
According to His will, He heareth us, and if we know that He hear us whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions.
That we desired of him.
Right away we see that there is something important to be remembered in connection with prayer.
Not only that it is to be in His name, but it is to be according to His will. Where do we learn His will?
Only one place we learn is will. That's in the precious Word of God.
Now let's go over to James Chapter one. James chapter 4 rather.
James.
And in spite of what?
Dear Martin Luther had thought at one point in his ministry James was given by the same shepherd. Martin Luther had some doubts about the inspiration of James. So taken was he by the wonderful truth of justification by faith, that he had trouble accepting.
The book of James. But it's still the Lord Jesus speaking, the one shepherd. And where is he speaking from?
Speaking from heaven.
Chapter 4 and verse 3.
Well, we'll just take the last part of the second verse. You have not because you ask not. Don't take that in isolation.
Ye ask and receive not because you ask amends that you may consume it upon your lusts. What a searching thing that is. When we go to prayer, are we asking for something?
A miss so we can consume it in our own lusts.
Pretty solemn, isn't it? Have you ever done that? I've done it.
I've done it.

Again, I say that Scripture is another part, another nail that's fastened.
Given by one of the masters of assemblies.
But it's given from 1 shepherd. Given from 1 shepherd. Let's go over now to Psalm 66.
Please don't take anything that I am.
That I am saying in this little time.
As intended to discourage believing faith in prayer.
Believing faith in prayer is a wonderful thing.
I wish I knew more of it myself. I wish I had that more of that confidence. I'm afraid very much. I'm like a little boy who had a mountain that he had to go over in order to get to school. And he read in the Scriptures, if you had faith, you could pray and it would remove the mountain. And so he prayed that the Lord would remove the mountain. He got up the next morning, looked out the window and he said, I thought so there was the mountains still there.
I'm afraid I'm like that very often. Let's be more believing in our prayer, however.
Let us be searched by these that are given by the one Shepherd.
They are all together. Psalm 66.
Verse 18.
If I regard iniquity.
Heart, the Lord will not hear me.
If I come to the Lord.
With some reservation.
Of iniquity in my heart, some unjudged sin.
I might do well to think about this, said the Lord the same.
The same.
Chief 1 Shepherd says the Lord will not hear me.
The Lord will not hear me. That's a searching thing, beloved brethren.
I'd like to finish now with one verse in Two Timothy.
Our first Timothy rather.
First Timothy, chapter 2.
And you can probably think of many others, but I suggest as you go through scripture.
In your reading and you find something that has to do with prayer or conditions in connection with prayer, remember that is part of that there. It's one of the nails fastened in a sure place.
By the masters of assemblies.
And given by that same shepherd.
We exercised about it. First Timothy, chapter 2.
And verse 8.
I will therefore.
That men pray everywhere.
Well, what an important thing prayer is. I have to confess that I went for years with perfunctory prayer.
I did it because I had to, because a Christian should do it.
And I want to tell you something. As of a few years ago, the Lord started waking me up in the middle of the night with times to pray.
That I had not maybe had before. I was the kind of person I got into bed and I zonked out and I was sleeping till it was time to get up in the morning.
But the Lord woke me up.
And I began to realize how little real praying with prayer.
There had been in my life.
And what an encouragement it is.
To find out that it's the will of God to pray.
I will therefore.
Let men, and that's men in contrast with women. Believe it or not, it's not mankind.
01:00:00
Why is that?
Is it because we men have a tendency to act more on our own independence, whereas a woman might, as a weaker vessel, might be more tempted, more tempted more?
The more inclined to cast yourself on the Lord.
I will therefore that men in contrast with women, and that doesn't mean that women shouldn't pray by any means.
But that the men pray everywhere.
Lifting up.
Holy hands.
That's another condition.
How are your hands? How are my hands? Are they holy hands, hands that have been doing the will of the Lord, or hands that have been involved in what they shouldn't be involved in?
Without.
RA and doubting. Another translation gives that without wrath and reasoning.
How often we reason about things instead of praying about them.
How much better to just?
Lifting up holy hands to put the matter in God's hands. While those are just a few scriptures, as you go through the scriptures, please.
Think of that, and that principle applied to every.
Thing that God says.
No scripture is of any private interpretation because holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.
First Thessalonians, chapter 4.
16 and 17.
For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout.
The voice of the Archangel, and with the Trump of God.
And the dead in Christ shall rise first, then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them.
In the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so shall we ever be with the Lord, pray.
