Would it be profitable, brethren, to take up the Hebrews, chapter 12?
Have that on my heart.
That is suitable with my brother and I haven't heard from many of them.
Hebrews, chapter 12.
Wherefore, seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight and the sin which does so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him, endured the cross, despising the shame, and it sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself.
Lest she be wearied and faint in your mind ye have not resisted unto blood striving against sin, and ye have forgotten the expectation which speaks unto you as unto children. My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, and nor be faint when thou art rebuked of Him. For whom the Lord loveth He chasing us, and scourgeth every son whom He receiveth. If you endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons. What son is he whom the Father chasing us not?
But if you be without chastisement, we're of all our partakers, then you're a ******** and not sons. Furthermore.
We are fathers of our flesh, who have had fathers of our flesh, which corrected us, We gave them reverence. So we not much rather be in subjection under the Father of spirits, and live were they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure, but He for our Prophet, that we might be partakers of His Holiness.
00:05:02
I know chastening for the present seems to be joyous, but grievous nevertheless afterwards.
The yield at the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them that are exercised thereby. Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees, and make straight paths for your feet. What's that which is lame? Be turned out of the way, but let it rather be healed.
Follow peace with all men, and holiness which no, without which no man shall see. The Lord looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God, lest any root of bitterness springing up, trouble you, and thereby many be defiled.
Lester Beanie, fornicator or profane person as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright.
For you know how that afterwards Winnie would have inherited the blessing he was rejected. For he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears. For ye not come into the mount which might be touched, and that burned with fire, nor unto the blackness and darkness, and temptness, and the sound of a trumpet, and the voice of words, which voice they heard and treated. That word should not be spoken unto them anymore, where they could not endure that which was commanded. And it's so much as a beast touched the mountain, it shall be stoned or thrust through the dark.
And so terrible was the sight that Moses said, I exceedingly fear and quake. But ye, ye are coming to a Mount Zion, unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and unto an innumerable company.
Of angels to the General Assembly and Church of the first born, which are written in heaven as a God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect unto Jesus the Mediator of the new Covenant, and to the blood of the sprinkling, and speaketh better things than that of Abel.
See that you refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escape nought He refused Him that spake on earth. Much more shall we? Shall not we escape, if we turn away from Him that speaketh from heaven? Whose voice then shook the earth. But now He had promised, saying Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven. And this word yet once more signifies the removing of those things that are shaken as things that are made, and those things which that those things which cannot be shaken.
May remain.
Wherefore we're receiving a Kingdom which cannot be moved. Let us have grace whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear, for our God is a consuming fire.
Where, Wherefore, at the beginning of our chapter.
The 11Th chapter.
Where we have the list of.
The catalog of those that live by faith. It's interesting to go over that list and to see.
How different each one manifested faith in different circumstances.
We two brethren are.
As in Second Corinthians chapter 5, we walk by faith, not by sight. Doesn't mean we close our eyes, but it does mean that the principles that guide us in life are not visible to the human eye. They're apprehended by faith. And that's what guides us, the precious Word of God, because faith comes.
By hearing and hearing by the Word of God and each of these in Chapter 11 That acted in faith, they had some communication from God upon which they acted. Very interesting to go over the list in that way. You and I are living in 2013 and it's not exactly the same circumstances of these people.
In Chapter 11, but our God is the same. The principles of his word are the same for you and me. It is the exercise of heart that God allows us to pass through circumstances in which you yourself, young person or older one too, you have to figure it out with God, you have to act accordingly. So the.
00:10:01
Word at the beginning of this chapter wherefore.
Since we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, the.
Ones of faith in the 11Th chapter let us lay aside every weight and the sin which says so easily be set us and let us run with patience, endurance, the race that is set before us in a race you don't just sit down and wait a while it's.
A constant thing. It's a long distance race, brethren. It's the race that lasts the whole life, our Christian life down here, and it's not easy.
All the traveling I do, I don't find people that have it easy anywhere. Even though you might have a lot of material possessions, it's not easy. It's a race and we're not to the finish line yet, but we have someone to look to who has finished the race and that's the beautiful thing in verse 2.
Lord, encourage us to run with endurance.
Patience to keep on. Don't give up even though you might feel like you're not up to it. Keep on your eyes on that one who is now in the glory.
Brother Bob, you're saying that when one had a raise, he has to be prepared, he has to exercise himself?
And so that he can run that race. Just don't run a race without being prepared and exercised for it. And that's a daily thing. It's the same thing with our Christian life. The race that we're talking about here has to be exercised daily.
All right. And when we do that, then we have that tangerine to run that race through God's Word and the Holy Spirit.
When we were running that race, we don't take anything with us that we don't need for the race doing.
I noticed that Mister Darby's, uh, translation. Umm, it says.
Laying aside every weight of sin which so easily entangles us.
Run the race. Run with the endurance.
Tangles. That's a stronger word than you said, I think.
Well, I just wondered if it would not speak to a lot of them. We are members of the same body rather and we're not to do this alone. We have one another to help us. I'm sure you might have seen on the Internet there was an Olympic break from the man who's running and he pulled his leg muscle and he could hardly walk. His father jumped out of the crowd and ran through aside and helped him win the race.
They can help one another in this race that doesn't, that I have to run it alone. I have my brother to help me and we can help one another because it's LED up and I'm sure I'll know that the Hebrews, that's not us expression, uh, and Curtis and humor and time. But sometimes when you're from a small medium, you tend to think you're all alone. But it's so important you realize that we are members of the same body forever to put kids in the head.
For the hand I will need to be.
So as we're running this break, we do it together. Some has suggested that the similar stuff to either silence and unbelief. My goodness is in the heart of God. So let's run together, brother.
Gaston Dutronquoy But to go on together the things of Christ, and before us the options. We have the same options, but if we see ourselves, I believe, as a body working and functioning together and helping one another to make the race and put toils.
00:15:00
A runner might drain with weights, as we see they do often today, but when it comes down to the race, they they take the weights off. So here we have the race that's been brought out our whole life's path as believers before us. And before setting out on that race, the weights are set aside. And so it's not going part way through the race and then laying aside to wait and then a little ways further laying a side of weight. It's having done with them.
Right from the outset, as a as a fixed principle in our lives, we've done with weights around the race, laying them aside.
And you'll notice Mr. Darby's translation doesn't say thus. Then it just says sin, because all sin entangles us.
We're so easily entangled by all sin. It's true. There are sins that may be for me are a little more of a particular concern than for you and for you than our perhaps a concern for me. But the force of it is we're easily entangled by sin, period.
Easily so how we need dependence upon the Lord as we run that race to not be entangled, but it's a thought of just you're on a race, you're done with it. I go run.
We have so they have plenty of.
Verse 28 it says.
Matthew, 1128.
Come unto me, all ye that labor, and our heavy laden, and will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me from meat and loading art, and you shall find rest for your soul.
Do you give us some stockings on 20?
Oh, I was just about to ask you that, Steve.
What are we?
Anything that would slow us down in the Christian path, anything that would distract us, we, if not laid aside, I think can become sin.
Does not necessarily send them themselves, are they? Nothing wrong with sports themselves and music in itself but.
They can be waits and you need to evaluate. Does this help me?
In my Christian pathway? Or is this something that burdens me down and we need to evaluate in the Lord's presence each thing that comes along?
Remember, uh.
I don't know if, uh, some have heard me tell about a man that got saved in Bolivia. He, uh, he was in race car driving and I met him at a mechanic shop and he got saved and through the word and.
He loved to race in the car, the race cars in Bolivia and it's kind of a challenge over the Bolivian roads.
Anyhow, he one day I visited him and he was a little bit upset at me. I think he realized that I wasn't so much in favor of him racing, although I never said that to him.
And, uh, so I said to him, when I realized he was a bit upset at me, I said, tell me, uh, if I was racing over the Bolivian roads, uh, would it be all right for me to stop and take some pictures along the way? Is this beautiful scenery in Bolivia? Oh, no, no, no, you don't do that. I said, is there something wrong with taking pictures? No, there's not anything wrong with doing that. But you don't do that when you're on a race.
I said that's exactly the point I'm getting to. There are things in the Christian life that are not wrong in themselves, but when you're on a race, you evaluate them as to how they're helping you get along in the race. Brethren, material things are not wrong in themselves, But traveling from country to country, I can see that in this country material things have become.
Waste, not wronging themselves, nothing morally wrong with them, but we need to be challenged. And I think the Lord is allowing circumstances in life so that we need to challenge what is really, truly necessary in the Christian race. We're going on to eternal glory. We've been called to eternal glory, but we've lost sight of it.
00:20:26
And here we have the example of the Lord Jesus in verse 2.
Looking unto Jesus.
I think of the Lord Jesus, the glorious, eternal Son of God.
When he came into the world, how?
In have inhibited that he was in the course of life by material things he passed through it. Was there anything wrong with having a house to live in? No. Why didn't he have a place to lay his head?
Brethren, it's not a matter of being wrong, but I like to think that he came from the Father's house and there was nothing that could compare with that down here, so he wasn't really interested in having those material things.
The Lord help us, brethren in in culture where we have been prospered materially, to know how to deal.
With that weight of materialism, I confess, brethren, I fail in it, but I really believe that it is a hindrance in our running properly the Christian race.
My brother Alan Hadway one time.
Up in the Utah who had struck a threat and was about ready to start back to town, uh, cash in and sell some of the gold Nuggets that he had found.
So he had sewed these Nuggets in a a coat so that no one would see them or rob them and.
In in passage to town he came across.
A swift flowing river.
And he had a a decision to make. When he reached that river, he knew it would be difficult to swim across, so he pondered.
He said. Do I try to swim across with this heavy vest on or do I take it off and leave it on the shore and perhaps we try to recover it later?
And he decided that he would take the choice. He would try to swim across with, uh, those gold Nuggets going into that heavy jacket. And he made it halfway across that river, but the weight of those Nuggets, uh, the jacket, pull them down under and he lost his light. And what a solemn, uh, story that was.
First Corinthians Chapter 9, verse 24.
10/25.
No, you're not the day which runs in a race. Run all but one to see the surprise, so run that ye may attain.
And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain an in a corruptible ground, but we an incorruptible heat. These verses confirm the fact that we are the body of Christ. Each one of us must run this race. There's no exception. We're all one in Christ. We're all following Him.
There's individual exercise that we must be tempered in all things, things of this life. So many things are competing for our attention. There are so many potential ways that can slow us down, and we must not allow any one of them to occupy too much time and space in our hearts and minds because otherwise we cannot let go of the corruptible to receive the incorruptible price.
Broaden the discussion a little bit. Umm, we're talking about weights of things that we can see. And yet if we go through this chapter, we see some things that could be weight, which are not what we can see, but what we feel and what comes upon us. Umm, and, uh, we see just a little bit farther down the our chapter and, and we can, we wanna relate these weights to sin also and the Co, the, the Contra distinction that's, that's in there those that.
00:25:19
The the things that come into our lives because of these weights, we find that the Lord Jesus, he said he despised the shame.
Could shame be a weight in our Christian life? Are we ashamed of Christ? Are we ashamed of the Gospel? Are we ashamed of taking a stand? Is that a weight to us? We find contradiction of sinners. Is there contradiction in our life? Has Satan brought a contradiction into our life?
That so disposes us that we cannot think of the things of price that we cannot go forward.
These are real weights too, and we have to deal with them in a very spiritual, umm, I I I and connection to Christ. We have to find our resources in him, find our affection in Him so that we can overcome these contradictions. This shame, uh, farther on it says the Lord chasing us, umm, those he loves. Has God chastening come into your life? Has it made you better?
We find bitterness farther down. Are we bitter? Are we against God in that, in that sense, is that a weight that's holding us away from pursuing, uh, the, the pursuing Christ, pursuing a relationship with him. As our relationship grows with him, as our character grows with him, as our heart is attached to him, then we're going to have a, a victory in this life. But these are all weights.
Roots of bitterness can be a very definite way that needs to be let go. But it's also sin, isn't it?
See that the idea of what a weight is and they answered in the example of what we have in verse 2 where it says the Lord Jesus for the joy that was set before him.
Tears across, advising the shame. I often think about that in terms of the fruit of the travel of his soul. It says in Isaiah 53, and there's no doubt that is true. That was some of the joy that was set before him, and we have that as well. What's at the end of the journey? But the Lord had another choice, perhaps a deeper, fuller joy that was with him in his life. And we had that back in chapter 10 where it tells us there that coming into the world, he says sacrifice and offering.
Not it's not desire, but a body is self prepared me and then he says, lo, I come to do thy will, O God. And he found his delight in that the will of God his father and.
To me, that's the key in it, when our focus and our joy is in what Northwell is for us, it it makes us very makes it very clear what a weight is and what a weight may not take.
Umm, you know, it's easy to think. What is it that I want?
And then it gets very confusing and I can say, well, it's OK for me to do this or it's not OK to do that because when the reference point is myself, there's no clarity in it. But when it's instead the will of God in my life.
Then it makes it very clear as to what is a weight and what is not a weight.
Let us that has been mentioned is characterised Hebrews, umm, it's not a case of human effort. It becomes a case of human effort. We will fail. If I have a New Year's resolution that I'm going to lay aside a weight, I will fail.
Instead, it's a case of let the Holy Spirit work through the new nature and the weights will drop off.
The restraint is my old nature that will put some value on those weights. It's let us. It's, it's, it's, it's the work of the Spirit of God in my heart, working through my new nature that will cause me to lay aside the weights, not my effort.
You had mentioned burdens, Brother Tony, and a weight could be a burden of soul and.
When we have a burden of soul, it's very important that we leave that burden of the feet of our Savior, the Lord Jesus, and leave it there.
He also mentioned this brother who's, uh, race car driver and he said, Oh no, you don't stop to take pictures when you're on a race. And what he was trying to tell you, you're supposed to be focused on focused on the goal. And that's what we have in the beginning of verse two, looking at the Jesus, the author and finished her face. And I like the way Mr. Darby renders that umm, he says, looking steadfastly on Jesus.
00:30:29
The leader.
The completed faith again, the stronger, you know, a stronger rendering there.
You know, focusing on our Savior, the Lord Jesus.
Connection with the 12:10.
Very significant struck me as I drove through the upper part of New York State yesterday.
And every 10 miles or so, there were signs trying to keep people focused on their driving. And those were big signs. And the sign said it can wait texting area 5 miles. And so there were places that you could pull off of tax and.
That's become a real problem, keeping people focused on their driving.
So much so that the state of New York has actually constructed texting areas along the highway. And I just thought of that, as our brother said, keeping our focus on the Lord Jesus Christ.
We're in, uh, Mercedes 5 is casting all your care upon him, for he cares for you.
So we have two.
That have care.
In that purse we have ourselves.
We have cares.
And the Lord, I think, refers to him as the cares of this life.
You know, and sometimes these things can become a burden to us.
And truly hinder our effectiveness in testimony for Christ.
You know these cares that we have are to be cast upon the Lord.
And we find out that He has care, and that's wonderful to contemplate His care for us, to meet us in every need.
And it's that which we enjoy by faith.
You know, and it speaks here in the first verse about a great cloud of witnesses referring to these people of faith in the previous chapter.
Well, it's not the thought here. These ones they witnessed.
What God would do for them?
Because of their confidence in him and his worth, You think Noah now?
No, I was told to build an ark.
It would seem like utter folly to build a boat on a mountain.
When there had not been rain before.
But no one was a man of faith. He takes God in his word.
He builds the ark and it it tells us here that by faith being warned of God in Chapter 11 verse 7.
Of things not seen as yet. Move with fear. Prepared an arc for the saving of his house.
And so on.
Well, God came in in a miraculous way for Noah and his family because of faith. That was key.
And so I believe that as we go through this 11Th chapter, we see how these people of faith, they did things that would seem to the world very foolish.
But they took God at this word, and they found out how their faith was.
Rewarded. And as we contemplate these folks in Chapter 11, it should be an encouragement to us today to realize that God will reward your faith.
You're still 46 verse one says Isaiah 46.
Make a call or Caroline when they trust them for that.
00:35:03
Verswanza Bell. Bow down. Nibble children.
There are no words upon the beach and upon the cattle. Their carriages were heavy loaded. They are a burden to the weary in these two. They fall down together.
Because of the divers, a burden of themselves are gone into captivity.
Verse four and even to your old age I am a an even to the whole haired will I carry you? I've made and will bear even I will carry and will deliver you.
So those Old Testament believers were a real encouragement and they're put there for encouragement, aren't they? But like has been mentioned in verse two, looking steadfastly. And I understand the thought is looking our way unto Jesus, looking away from ourselves. And brethren, I really believe that is something that needs to be, uh, meditated because.
We live in a culture that is self-centered and man centered. What do you want, What do you like? That's the way the whole advertising business is run and it is not Christianity.
It is looking away from ourselves, looking unto Jesus, and we all learn by examples. And so we have a perfect example here, the Lord Jesus, the author and finisher of faith. In other words, he's ran that race through this world. He met every circumstance and complete perfection, so we can look to him.
How did he meet those circumstances? And that is where we are to look. That is the focus of our faith. And then it says, who for the joy that was set before him, endured the cross? Was it easy?
Oh brethren, it is a challenge to our hearts to go back and to think of how He went through it all.
When he came in his life's pathway to Gethsemane.
To think of what was before him, and how he bowed, how he swept great drops of blood, as it were to falling to the ground, and yet in the perfection of his submission to God in God's will, he says, not my will, but thine be done, and he goes forward. What a example for us brethren. I know their brethren here who have.
Tough circumstances, hard times, I don't think anybody hasn't really easy.
But can we go on, brethren, look away from yourself. Don't get occupied with your circumstances so much. Look away to Him who endured such contradiction of sinners against himself. Was there shame to that?
When they hung him on that cross, they said he said he was the Son of God. If God is his Father, let God deliver him.
And God didn't deliver him, says Reproach has broken my heart. He went through what it means to have a broken heart. And he went on brother, and he went on. He never gave up. And where is he now? He is at the pinnacle.
Uh, glory. That is the example that's set before us. Is it worthwhile? Is there something here in this world that attracts your heart that is more valuable than that?
Brethren, if I was about to start on a 50 yard dash, that's not a very long race, But if somebody stepped up to me with an ingot of gold and said here, take this, it's worth a lot of money. If I was really interested in winning that race, I would throw the gold ingot down just as fast as I would anything else.
Rather than what is it that challenges the?
Goal is set before us. Eternal glory with Christ. What is it that attracts us so that we don't run with endurance? The race that's set before us?
00:40:16
N.
Joy that was set before him. And uh, the joy is the price. And this price, it's us. He gave his life for us. We are His joy. It says that in this bird. It says that you will find joy in the sons of men.
And our salvation.
Was dispoken the whole humanity the closer to him that redeemed so we could, uh, enjoy them.
With him as president, we have enrollment 14.
Uh verse 17/14/17 and Roman says the Kingdom of God is not eat and drink, but justice, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.
They had to be, and there's first is justice.
Justice has to be made, the price has to be paid, and then there's peace with God. There's no no darkness between US and God. Everything is light, everything is set up and then there's joy. Jesus did that in order. We are his joy now.
It's nice to think of that. We are his joy brother and I think that's true. I would suggest one further thought that.
His joy was to go back into the presence of His Father and to say, Father, I have finished the work that Thou gavest me to do. We don't know what it was when the Lord Jesus went back into the glory and presented Himself with the work completely finished. That was the joy that was spent before Him as well. I'm sure it includes us too.
But I suggest that as well.
When you saw the sun, that was uh, that went away with half of his, uh.
Half of the Apple widow is good and when he came back he saw him from far. There was joy for his father to see his son's back. Same for us. The father has joined to have us in his presence too.
Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.
A lack of faith and trust in our Lord can be a serious weight that will slow us down.
And have we learnt to walk by faith, not by sight, have we?
That faith the Lord gave us to.
Receive the gift of eternal life. Are we now exercising it to lay hold of eternal life, to walk with Him, to trust in Him with childlike faith, to cast all our cares upon Him, To have complete confidence?
And His provision for us in all circumstances that He allows in our life if we can.
Trust him unconditionally, unreservedly. This would be a great wait that we are relieved of, which will be replaced by joy in trusting him and having complete confidence in him no matter what.
I think the thought is right in connection with the true joy of the Lord was doing the Father's will.
And I think there's many applications we can have in connection with this.
When you think of the Lord Jesus when he was here.
The verse that comes to my mind is back in Isaiah chapter 50. It says that.
God gave him the tumble alert that he might know how to speak a word in season.
Then it says he openeth mine ear morning by morning.
So as the Lord walked his path in this world, here he got His guidance, His instruction, His joy was in doing the Father's will day by day, in spite of all of the the.
Sorrows that He faced along the way, and our eyes are taken off of the examples of the Old Testament in the first verse of the chapter, and our turn to the Lord Himself.
00:45:10
It's lovely for us to be encouraged in when one another as we see others that go on in the path of faith, but that won't drive me on. What I need is my eye on the Lord, because that's where they got theirs from the Lord Himself. I think of Abraham and it says in that 11Th chapter he went out not knowing whether he went. Think of the hundreds of miles that he traveled.
He left there where he was because God had called him. So that is the vision that the Lord would bring before us to God would bring before us and then tell about His Son and His life here as He walked through this world and very and then into the presence of God. And that verse, Bob, you quoted John 17 before even going to the cross.
Where He had that cross before him, he could say, I have glorified thee on the earth. I have finished the work which Thou gave us me to do. May God give you and me to have that as our true object.
I think it's good for each one of us to be continually reminded that God wants us to have His joy. We read here who for the joy that was set before him, there was a joy set before our Savior. And so He endured the cross and illustrations helped me to understand certain truths. And if we have a cup and we take it to a place where we can fill it with refreshment.
What if it was filled with stones or dirt? We wouldn't get much refreshment. And I think sometimes our cups are full of stones and dirt and so we have these weights that we need to lay aside and God would seek to pour His joy into us.
And when Jesus was facing the cross with his disciples, he said in John chapter 15.
John chapter 15 and verse 11. These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.
That was the desire of the Savior for his disciples. And then in chapter 16 it says, verse 20. Verily, verily, I say unto you, that ye shall weep in the meant, but the world shall rejoice, and ye shall be sorrowful.
But your sorrow shall be turned into joy. A woman, when she is in travail, has sorrow because her hour has come. But as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembers no more the anguish.
For joy that a man is born into the world, and he now therefore have sorrow. But I will see you again.
In your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you. And then in chapter 17.
Chapter 17 and verse 13. And now come I to thee, and these things I speak in the world.
That they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves.
God's desire is for our joy and for our happiness.
But we often have our cups so full of these weights, these dirt and stones, that he's unable, as it were, for his joy and to fill it to overflowing. He had a joy that we set before him. And we find, as has been said.
Let us lay aside and there's many lettuces in the book of Hebrews. Let's just briefly for our consideration of meditation. Read a few or read some very briefly.
There's two in Hebrews 4.
There's three, actually, I'll just read two of them.
There's one in verse one that won't read that, but Hebrews 4 and verse 11. Let us labor, therefore to enter into that rest. Hebrews 4 and 11 Let us labor, therefore to enter into that rest. He restored. 16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, do we may attain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. And then in chapter.
9.
Chapter 10.
00:50:00
Caesars chapter 10 and verse 22 Through 24. Let us draw near with a true heart and full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering, for He is faithful the promise. And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good work.
And then in the 13th chapter, there's two more, and I'm sure there's others.
Hebrews 13.
In verse 13 Let us go forth therefore unto him, without the camp, bearing his reproach.
Verse 15 by him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually that is the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name. So there's things that we need in Hebrews 4 we need energy. We let us.
We need that energy, we need prayer, we need to be in the presence of God, we need with be with God's people, we need to have perseverance, we need to come to our Savior and we need to offer praise. So there's many things that we need, but God would pour His joy into us if we would allow Him to do a work in our souls and to bless us with the joy which He had with His Father and would love to share and work in each of our lives.
And there was joy in the Lord Jesus, wasn't he, even when he was rejected. But as he passed through this world, he was known as the Man of Sorrows, brethren.
The pathway to that joy is sometimes heavy, and so that's why we are told in verse three. Consider him that endures such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your mind.
We get weary sometimes and faint. What is the remedy for that? Consider him.
The old version of the Spanish translation, I like the way it reads, says reduce your thoughts to Him who endured such contradiction of sinners against Himself. So often our minds, our thoughts are so centered on ourselves. It's easy, brethren. I find it constantly in me that I tend in that direction. Reduce your thoughts to Him.
How did he handle the contradiction of sinners against himself?
There ever came a time when he gave up, never went straight on. O brethren, what an example. And that will help us when we get weary, when we get faint in our minds, help us to go on, to run with endurance.
Not give up, reduce your thoughts to Him that endures such contradiction of sinners against himself. Think of it the cross he was in.
Abandoned by his disciples, all turned against him.
The ones that he had come to be such a blessing to cried for his crucifixion.
And then on the cross, when he was there in that awful, awful agony, God turned his face from him. Did he give up? Never. Never, brethren, He went straight on. Where is he now? He's at the pinnacle of glory and power there at God's right hand. That's the course that you and I are called to run now.
Let's not give up. Let's continue. Let's run with endurance, the race that's set before us.
To our face and as they mentioned that he is the goal.
That we look towards and when you run a race, you have a goal in mind and you run towards that bowl, you get your eye off the goal and you start to go to the left, to the right to wander. When I was, I heard an interview with an author of a work of fiction that I had taken a particular interest in and he mentioned how he had killed off a particular main character that worked and I wondered as to why he had done that.
But as he was Speaking of that as the author and Speaking of how he had control to manipulate the characters in his work, it struck me that here in this verse, the Lord Jesus.
00:55:07
Speaks to be the author to watch. We have in the margin. It's, it's the, uh, reference says beginner of our faith. But it struck me as, as I thought about that he, he wants to have complete control of our life as a, as the author of a of a book has control over the characters in the book and puts them in the situations that he being spent for the story that he's telling. The Lord wants to have control in our lives.
He wants us to be independent on him and have control and to put us in the situation that he needs fit.
In our race and as much as he's the beginning of, of the, uh, of our faith that we have here, I think also that thought of being in control, putting us in the situation.
That word softer.
And then it's your architect and builder.
He's the only one who ever ran that path of faith to imperfection and holy for God's glory, and he's the only one worthy as an object for us in that past. Encompass with a great cloud of witnesses. No, they're encouraging, but there's only one to put your eyes upon. He's the leader, he's the architect, he's the builder, and he finished it.
He alone can say it is finished, Paul says I've finished my course, but he could not say it is finished. There's only one.
Who could say that? And you and I could hardly even say I finished my course. But, uh, there's only one worthy to set our eyes upon, and that's him. And so in this chapter we get the things that God uses to keep us in the path of faith. And here is the primary one. An object for our hearts we cannot do without. Man cannot do without an object for his heart. He has to have something.
He follows something that he's occupied with and God says here, I'm going to set before you that which is first one is perfect. One who did it all the way for my glory. He's the one to follow.
In John's Gospel.
He speaks to his disciples how they're going to be persecuted.
Upon his departure and even unto death, a severe persecution. But at the end of uh 16th chapter, it says in the world he shall suffer tribulation.
Right, be of good cheer. I have overcome the world.
So that's a comfort for the disciples and ought to be for us as well. Lord Jesus overcame, and so we can too.
Because he truly is the object of our faith. And the apostle Paul, he could say I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. So the Lord Jesus Christ was the object of Paul's faith and he found strength in that. And you know, this is very important faith. I think of how John could speak about this is the victory.
That overcometh the world, even our faith.
So apart from state, we're not gonna succeed.
But I believe faith in the Lord Jesus Christ keeping focused on Him.
Realizing that.
He successfully completed.
The pathways here, in spite of such adverse circumstances, Severe opposition.
I think in Proverbs 2 it speaks about if you faint in the day of adversity.
Your strength is small.
And the truth is, if we rely on ourselves and our own strength, when we face the enemy, we're gonna faint. We're gonna throw a person's hands in despair. But the point is, we need to recognize that his strength is working on our behalf.
01:00:08
And it's by keeping him as the option, keeping our focus on him.
Considering, well, him.
Puts you.
Endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest he be wearied and faint in the minds.
How do we focus our eyes with the eyes of faith?
Umm the teeth I leave rescue IPI give up to you. That will be 8 and our daily lives in our circumstances.
Think I'm looking forward to the joy of seeing Christ and glory, but it's going to be the peace that I have in my heart that doesn't matter what the obstacles are in the way. I may speak about it because it was brought up the author of my life.
The flight has peace, the very peace of the Lord Jesus had when he went to the cross, given it to us, brother and then brother sow in his prairies and greater integers and youth. There's no reason that we need to fall in this regimen. We have the power we have as you brought out. Rather it's the Spirit of God with us, and the greater is he that is in you. Do you really believe that brother? Do you really believe that young person?
There is some power in you that's greater than anything in this world.
Noreek Frost find herself with these plate other than the fact that they brought out. We got our eyes off the crust, but what's going to sustain us through it is peace that he gets.
We drove up from Toronto, which threatened staying with the players all the way in Toronto's truck after truck after truck, and then we get to Montreal truck after truck after truck. That didn't discourage us because.
We had peace, we didn't care what's going on in the road and the joy that was before us was seeing her brother has seen her brother from Montreal who invited us and we need to realize this very peace of the Lord Jesus had to walk through the team going to the cross is the very peace.
Then she peed up Steve Smith. God, who's a very piece of the Lord. Hazel pass, and he wants you, and I turn her into it.
Still, still my soul, but I guess throw this out as a suggestion. You know, I just asked what's the large case that's perhaps, uh, reception he got and he returned home. I wonder if there's an insight for us. And I say I'm 51.
Isaiah 51.
When you think about the garden we went through and it's hard to read this first, peers come into your eyes and you think it's what you really went through for us. But in Isaiah 5142.
Thus saith thy Lord, the Lord, and thy God that leadeth the cause of his people. Behold, I have taken out of thy half the cup of trembling.
Even the drags of a cup of my purse. Thou shalt no more trade back again.
Is there not a thought there that no more James was recurrent the problem?

I'd like to welcome everybody here tonight. As was mentioned, an invitation went out. I think it's cool because you get free coffee. That's better than Tim Horton or Starbucks. You get free coffee. We have something even more wonderful. It's free tonight. You can have the knowledge and the reality of knowing your sins are forgiven. What a marvelous thing to be able to walk down the streets Of Montreal, Illinois. I'll never come under the judgment of God.
The Lord Jesus Christ, God's Son, bore.
My sins is somebody on the tree and you by faith, you can have it too. But there was a message on this invitation. There are a number of Bible verses. How many of you in this room actually even have one of these? Raise your hand if you have one. Well, good. It's an invitation that's been given out.
Have you received the message?
What must I do to be saved? Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, Thou shalt be saved. Let's sing #4 should have received a hem sheet from the gentleman at the door there. Number four, Christ is the Savior of sinners.
Well, the next obvious question is who or what is a Sinner?
And why do they need to be saved? And who is this man? Christ is the Savior of sinners. You boys and girls brought up in what we heard today of Christian home. You know the answers to the questions. Christ is the answer. Believe there's a bumper sticker over there, Jesus.
Is the answer He's the answer for your heart tonight?
The gospel message goes out to the lost.
Some of you are lost but don't know it.
Some of you are lost and don't care.
Tonight we pray, grace of God, you will care, you will understand that there is a God who loves you. Let's say #4 Christ is the Savior of sin.

Now I can say.
I've been having a tough day.
Great. Bye. You're talking about the information. Do you need anything to call her and everything there's, there's what's better, California.

10-4, 394.
I think the last line of each verse is precious.
This is the savior for me.
Not an abstract thought, but a person not.
How do they say it a way?
A good way?
That Jesus is the only way. Now we know what a Sinner is.
Have you ever acknowledged that before? God, my friend, that God looks down in your heart and he sees some nasty little things, And if we're not careful, the older we get, those little nasty things will come out one day.
Send.
Then lieth at the door.
Let's close our eyes and pray because this is the gospel meaning it's good news. We have good news for you people in Montreal. But then I was informed that we're really not in Montreal. We're in the suburb, but Montreal will suffice. Want to thank each one of you for coming. It's a real privilege to be able to be here, to be in Montreal. The hymn sheet or the message that was given to you folks that says.
It would be great to see you, and it is my friend. It is so good. It is so great to see you. And the reason why it's so great to see you, my friend, is because you're still alive.
You have an opportunity tonight to embrace my Savior, the hymn writer says, Oh, that my Savior were your Savior too. Paul could say, men and brethren, my heart's desire before God is at Israel would be saved. And that's the desire of the brethren here in Montreal, that each one in this room tonight will come to know the Lord Jesus Christ and know what it is to be saved. Let's close our eyes and ask the Lord for his help.
His word, it will not return unto Him void, but I want it to go down deep into your soul. Realize that there is a God.
Scripture says.
You don't believe there's a God, we might as well stop right now.
The Scripture says he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.
Believe that He is, Let's just close our eyes and we'll ask the Lord Jesus.
Father, we come to Thee and the precious and worthy name of the Lord Jesus Christ, our precious Savior.
Heard some messages this morning or this afternoon about messages.
So you might be saying to yourself, who is this guy standing up here? Doesn't matter who I am, I'm just a voice. I'm a voice crying out in the wilderness. Jonah came into the city of Nineveh, three days journey probably would have come into Montreal and said, oh wow, I'm back in Denver. Look how huge this place is. And what if reality, my friend, there was a man up here sent from God and he says within 40 days Montreal.
Will be destroyed.
This island that you live on, this island that you find your security, in 40 days from now it will be destroyed.
You would have to make one of two decisions, wouldn't you?
Believe the message or reject it.
I wonder how many for sale signs would go up if you really believe it. 40 days and it's going to be destroyed. You know, you don't have 40 days. You don't even have 40 minutes. You don't even have 40 seconds.
Your breath is in his hand even tonight. Take you home.
Shall not the judge of all the earth do right? He has a claim on you, my friend, because of creation. He has a claim on you because of redemption. He wasn't sold and bought every thought of the world, sold it all and bought bought it. He belonged to Christ.
00:10:07
May not realize it, so he has every right to you, but he doesn't force himself on you.
He laborers in law.
One of my favorite gospel hymns that's not in the SIM sheet. The softly and tenderly Jesus is calling. Tenderly Jesus is pleading. Why would you think Jesus would be pleading for your soul tonight, my friend? Because he knows the reality. Hell is real.
Created it.
Let's sing another little song. Gonna do something different. I trust you don't mind.
#32.
The way we're gonna do this?
This side of the room.
Is going to sing the verses.
This side of the room is going to sing the chorus.
I want it to be as if you are asking you the questions and you are giving these individuals the answer. Question is, Rose, what can wash away my sins? Somebody asked you that tonight on that side of the room. Could you give him an answer?
Could you give him an answer of peace?
Let's give it a try at least just on the first verse. OK, first verse, this group, the answer over here, and then we'll sing it all together. The rest of the hymn. OK #32 let's ask the question, what?
Can make me all right now nothing but the blah blah blah blah blah.
457-7441.
931500 oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh wow I'm crying no no, no help me but the blah blah blah blah.
Call 957-2153, 935-7193.
455-0539, 393-5443 540-0400 Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh perhaps.
Well, I have to make a wireless and flavourful.
This is one of the most vital statements in this little hymn sheet.
Nothing, and for sins atone nothing but the blood of Jesus.
OK, let's sing it verse 3.
Nothing.
Why don't you go and help me by the blood opportunity in front of the info? Oh, oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh. Perhaps it's got a bit of a powerful model where I can make me quiet and follow.
No, no, no. I'm going to find no, no, no, no, no.
Nsnoise.
00:15:09
It was wonderful. Thank you. Thank you. How many of you have a Bible? Raise your hand if you have a Bible. Raise your foot if you don't. We're gonna read together.
One verse. This way you can say you took a gospel meeting because you're going to read one verse with me.
And I understand they're making tapes or whatever, but people are going to hear your voice. We're going to read a verse in Psalm 56.
Once we find it, I'm going to say we'll say the verse on the count of 3123. That's why you go to school in kindergarten or first grade to learn how to count. So when you come to a gospel meeting, you'll be able to apply it.
Psalm 56.
The last five verses of words.
Verse 9.
Last five verses words rather start over again. The last five words of verse 9. So when I count to three, we're going to say each word, but we're going to pause just a second. Not going to ramble through because I want each one in this room to realize the truth of this verse because I believe in this room.
There are some of you who honestly don't believe what this says.
OK, on the count of three, you ready? 1234? God is for me. Isn't that wonderful to think that the God of the universe, the God of creation, is for you? Isn't that marvelous? God is for me to think of it. And we've all said it. I trust we've all said it.
You really realize the truth of it. God is for you, Precious. It's for you. Let's turn over to a story in Mark 4.
Mark Four and verse 37.
There arose a great storm of wind.
The waves beat into the ship, so that was now full. We've heard this afternoon, those of you who've been here, that they're gonna be trials in your life. They're gonna be storms that come in your life. Times of testing. And sometimes the testing is so hard, so strong. We're gonna ask this very question.
The storms of life.
What's the next verse verse?
38 He was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on the pillow. How many of you know the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior, and how many of you sometimes feel in your life Jesus is asleep?
That's why He sends some of these trials in our life, so we would wake him up. In essence, we don't take time to pray. We get up in the morning, we get dressed, we kiss our wife goodbye, run off to work, and we seldom take time to wake Jesus up. And so he has to send a trial into our life. He has to send a difficulty into our life.
What I want to speak about is what they say to him. And they awake him, and say unto him, Master.
Arizona.
That we perish.
You ready? We're all gonna say that, Master, Carest thou not that we perish? That's my object tonight, my friend, is to try to impress upon your heart and mind that God does indeed care if you perish.
Brother in Montreal here, don't want you to perish.
Pass eternally ruined into a sinner's hell. This is the question that they asked the Lord Jesus.
00:20:07
Out of three, let's all say it together and try to picture ourselves in this situation with great extremity.
I'm sure they didn't say it glibly. I'm sure they didn't say it matter of factly. They were terrified. They were frightened, they were scared. So let's count of three, we'll say it together. Kind of picture us in that situation, 123.
Carousel not that way.
Ever asked that question in your own heart? You ever thought nobody really loves me?
Nobody really cares about me. I'm just, I don't even know why I'm here.
There is a God in heaven, my friend, a God who saw you, saw you walk into this building.
We went out for a walk and there was another couple that went out for a walk and they were coming back and they said we walked right on by.
Oh, my friend, don't ever walk right on by the cross. That's the only way you're going to come into blessing. Is that the foot of the cross? The blood of Jesus Christ, God's Son, cleanseth us from all sin, and so they wake him up.
Arose rebuke the wind said unto the sea, Peace be still.
That's the gospel message tonight that I seek to bring before you, that you can have this very night, the very peace of God in your soul.
Scripture speaks of peace with God and peace of God. That's one of the characteristics of God, the God of peace.
You have peace in your life. You have peace in your home, your home characterized by peace. Maybe you're not from a Christian home. Maybe you're God and his grace has brought you in. You come from a house that's nothing but conflict. Or you live by yourself and there's nobody there, no one to come home to, no one to come home to and say I love you, I care. How was your day? What's happening?
There is a God in heaven.
Who will stand up tonight and have stood up? And he presented a man who can still the water. How is it that this man, the Lord Jesus Christ, my friend, can still the water? As prophetically it says in Genesis one? Let all the waters of the earth be gathered together into one place. Then Isaiah tells us where that is. Who has to measure the water?
In the hollow of his hand.
The Lord Jesus Christ bore the judgment of God so he could say to you this evening, peace be still. Isn't that wonderful? Do you have peace in your soul tonight? Are you anxious? Are you troubled?
Thing in John that the Lord appears to his own, and he says, Why are you so troubled? Why do these thoughts arise in your heart?
Is there anybody here tonight? Trouble.
Here the Lord Jesus would simply say, peace be still.
There on the cross, the Lord Jesus bore the judgment of God for you, for me. Christ is the Savior of sinners, redeemed. Oh, he shut his blood. Pay the ransom. How many of your kids know what a ransom is?
You know what a ransom is?
The sum of money, they tell me. In the old days, when the pirates ruled the seas, they would capture a ship and if there was a pretty lady on it, they would hold that Lady captive until her father gave them money.
The Lord Jesus doesn't want to give you money, He wants to give you life, he said. I am calm that you might have life and then you might have it more abundantly.
He wants you to have life. You have life tonight. The Lord Jesus Christ gave his life that You might have life. You might have it more abundantly.
00:25:04
Turn over to a verse in 142nd Psalm I believe it is.
Gonna read a verse and I wanted to search our hearts and I want us to be honest with ourselves.
This is a verse that is precious to me because it's a verse that my mother got saved on.
She really felt the truth of this.
And I wonder if there's somebody here, a young person.
Where to replay?
The conference since Friday.
Do you ever smile?
Was there ever a smile on your face?
Did your eye ever twinkle? Did you even give any semblance that you're happy?
You know the Lord Jesus Christ anything but you're happy. I'm so happy. And here's the reason why Jesus took my burdens all the way. But here is a person, Psalm 142.
Verse three it says when my spirit was overwhelmed with him.
Well, tonight, if there's one in this room and you find yourself in this condition, your spirit is so overwhelmed you don't know what to do. You're gonna try drugs. You're gonna try anything and everything because there's no use. Your spirits are so overwhelmed, you wanna give up.
What did they do?
He realizes that God knows his pathway. That's a solemn thing, and yet a precious thing to realize, my friend, that no matter what we think of our present situation, God looks down and he knows all about it. He knows everything about your pathway, and He's gonna come in and he's gonna present to you a Savior. But we get even more depressed. Verse 4.
Psalm 142 Four. I looked on my right hand. Let's do that. Everybody's sitting here. Look at the person on your right hand.
You ever looked at somebody and they're a disappointment? Nothing. They didn't seem to be there for you.
This person looked and there was no man. There was no man and that's a precious expression, No man because there was a lady that was brought before the Lord Jesus and he says.
Who is he that condemneth thee? She says, No, man, isn't that wonderful? No man, neither do I condemn me. Go in peace, go and sit no more. But here this person is really down. There was no man that would know me.
Refuge failed me and this is the part.
That slew my mother.
She came to realize in her own life, her own situation, her own job, her own family, her own relationships with the neighborhood.
No one.
No man cared for my soul and when you realize that, when you realize the truth of that, the.
Utter shock, if you would, to realize, oh man, nobody cares about me. Is that your thought tonight? There's somebody in this room who really, honestly, truly feels nobody cares about me.
Nobody cares for my soul.
What does the answer?
I cried unto thee, O Lord.
I cried unto thee, O Lord.
That's the answer. The answer. The very one who came to seek and to save that which is lost. The very one who poured out his soul unto death, because he values and loves your soul.
Christ is the Savior of sinners. Christ is the Savior for.
What was that word?
Me, all right? Christ is the Savior for me. Are you happy about it? It should be the most thrilling thing in your life to realize there's a God in heaven who not only loves me, but he's proven his love. And now I have a Savior and I can call him mine and I can walk out of this room.
Rejoicing with all my sins are gone.
00:30:03
But you know, if your sins are not gone, my friend, they become a burden. They become heavy on your shoulders. And you do get downcast. You get distressed, you get frustrated. You get to the point where nothing satisfies.
Nothing satisfies until you get to the realization of the Lord. Who is this Lord? God's Son. God, manifest in flesh, became a man in order to redeem you, to redeem you.
Quite an amazing thing, isn't it?
Brother Hayhoe, aren't you?
You know, brother roosting here.
His life was put up for a ransom. How much would you be willing to pay for him?
Here the Lord Jesus, the precious value of your soul. He says the death of the Saints is precious in his sight, and he would give his own life. Jerry Dean, brother Hayhoe and brother.
I got it, but he did for you. For me.
They cried unto thee, O Lord, let's turn over to John 20.
John 20.
I am really thankful and glad you're here tonight.
The Lord Jesus.
Wants you to be part of His bride. How wonderful. He wants you to be part of His body. He wants you to be part of this building.
He wants you.
To me, that's the most precious thing.
When I was growing up, nobody wanted me. I wasn't good enough to play baseball. I wasn't good enough to play basketball.
Yeah, but I started to grow up. Things changed.
You know, it's tough when they play in baseball or soccer or something and pick up sides and you're you're the last guy to be picked and they don't want you.
You're no good. You're an automatic strikeout. But Jesus.
He doesn't want you to strike out. We don't want you to strike out. My friend, the Lord Jesus wants you to realize that He loves you. He died on the cross. He paid the ransom. Find that in Timothy. The ransom has been paid.
He wants to save you.
Hearst thou not that we perish?
I wonder if we could be real and honest with ourselves tonight. How many on this side of the room wanna perish?
How many on this side of the room want to perish?
Harris, I didn't say die.
Parish.
Death is just the beginning. God says it is appointed unto men wants to die, but after death the judgment perish. Harris thou not Yes, he does care. He does not want you to perish. We don't want you to perish. There's a hymn here, uh, number.
I think it's 18.
Let's just sing #18.
Just to kind of wake you up.
#18 The third verse says, Why perish then, you careless ones?
Why slice the gracious call?
Why turn from him? His words proclaim eternal life.
Hey friend, you lost.
You need a savior. There is a Savior, my Savior, and many in this room. Savior, the little hymn says. Why perish then?
Well, there's no one, no reason anybody in this room. You came into this room lost, you're perishing. There's no reason nobody should leave this room.
Lost, lost, let's sing #18 Perhaps somebody could start it for us.
00:35:16
It was.
A.
Little SO.
All right. It's just, uh, why is that? We're on the pillar of the fire proxy and uh, uh, uh, uh, uh.
All right.
Again.
Jonathan. Jonathan.
500-1001.
And then we read the third verse. Why perish them? Be careless 1.
Why slight the gracious call? Why turn from Him whose words are pure? Claim eternal life to all, all, my friend, there's no need for you to perish. He called the storm there at the cross. The judgment of God has fallen, and now he could proclaim peace, peace, peace.
Scripture says peace. Then at such a time tonight you can have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
John 20.
Verse.
21.
Then said Jesus to them again. Peace.
We find when the Lord Jesus rose from the dead, the disciples were afraid they locked the doors.
They wouldn't let them in.
Oh, and I fear tonight, my friend.
Somebody in this room.
Lock their hearts door. You've locked your door. You won't let them in. You know why you should, but for some reason there's a wall and you will not let them in.
So what does he do?
Walk through the doors, can't stop them. And so there he is.
He says, peace, my friend, the God of this world has blinded your eyes, lest the light of the glorious gospel which shines in the face of Jesus Christ would indeed shine into your heart, and you would throw open the door. Throw open the door.
And be saved. Figure out why they have this one here because it's very difficult to see the clock on the wall. But I realize we're almost out of time, my friend.
There's one in this room tonight. Doesn't know the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior. You are running out of time.
00:40:00
You are running out of time. Jesus is coming. Jesus is coming. 40 days in Montreal will be destroyed. Either believe the message, you do something about it.
Or you reject the message. But if indeed Mount Royal I understand is a volcano, if that volcano becomes active and alive and erupts, and this whole island is underneath ash, whose fault is it?
At least in this room, whose fault would it be?
Your because you had the warning, flee from the wrath to come. One of the things we had in Richmond and Port Huron on vacation. Bible school is the subject of deliverance, and it's precious. My friend is a Christian. We find that we've been delivered from the wrath to come. We've been delivered from the power of darkness. We've been delivered from this present evil world.
And we've been delivered in the fear of death.
Oh, my friend, tonight there's no need for you to perish.
There's no need for you to perish. Let's sing in closing, just as I am.
I know you're over wanting to get to that ice rink and the thing realize you may not make it.
Life at best is very brief, just as I am. Does anybody know what number that is?
#12 Thank you, thank you just as I am.
The first, third and 5th versus someone started please and may it really be the prayer of each one in this room who knows the Lord is their savior. If you're lost in this room that you would come just as you are lost, guilty, hopeless. Scripture says repent, believe.
The message Let's sing just as I am first, third, and last verses.
Just.
*****.
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah.
Nsnoise.
And that's wonderful in this fifth verse, just as I am, thy love I own has broken every barrier down. Let me ask you very politely, very lovingly, my friend, what is the barrier that is keeping you from Christ?
What is the barrier that is so valuable to you, that is so precious in your eyes, that you refuse to come to Christ?
00:45:06
Hymn writer said the barriers are gone. Wonderful. The barriers are gone. You're safe. Are you safe tonight? Let's be real. Let's be honest. That's what the gospel message is. It's the honesty of the heart of God and his love for you. Oh, may the Spirit of God break that barrier down. Break whatever that wall is that's keeping you.
And come into the Savior.
Have you come? Let's close our eyes and we'll pray and ask the Lord's blessing.

Good morning boys and girls.
Good morning, everyone.
You know, isn't it a wonderful opportunity this morning to talk again about the Lord Jesus? You know, if you weren't saved last night?
And you should have been because we had a good gospel here last night. If you weren't saved last night, then the Lord, in his goodness to you, is giving you another chance to get saved. Now in Sunday school. Let's start with a couple of songs, and then we'll pray. And then we'll have a couple more songs maybe. And then we'll tell a little bit from the Word of God, and then have another song, and then a little more from the word of God, and another song, and a little more from the Word of God. And then we'll be finished. Lord willingly.
OK, so let's have a couple of hymns.
Yeah, 47.
Thank you.
When he cometh. When he cometh.
To.
Heaven.
Like the stars of the morning.
In a bright brown thing, there is no shyness if you've.
Right. And forget Brown.
I can't follow your head getting down all the pillar was all the bright ones and one and get home.
Like the thighs of the morning.
How about a girl?
#7 Are you thinking #7 in this or in the Sunday school book at home?
Sunday school book at home number seven. Who can help me with that one is.
You wanna start it? James, Please.
Shall be all wonderful planting as counter burning on the great thing. The mighty God He can do anything, anything. Not saying it's impossible.
With them.
So now we're going to pray and ask the Lord for his help. Lord Jesus, this morning we need thy help in order that we might understand. And we think of some of the younger ones here who perhaps have realized.
00:05:09
That they have done wrong before they are gone and they feel bad about this.
And we pray that they may realize that they have sinned and that they need to have their sins forgiven.
By the blood of the Lord Jesus, as we heard last night, the precious blood of Jesus.
And we pray for those that are a little bit older who have not come to the Lord Jesus yet.
That are putting it off. Perhaps they don't realize how bad they are in the sight of a holy God in their sins. We pray that they may come to the Lord Jesus this morning too. And perhaps there's an older one who has never come either. And we pray for salvation for anyone in the room who is still lost and not ready to meet the our God. Lord Jesus, thank thee so much.
For dying on the cross. For suffering so that sinners like me.
Could have their sins forgiven. We love thee, Lord Jesus, help us now to speak well about Thee.
To say good things that are true from thy word, and that would be useful for the blessing of the children.
In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
OK, let's have another song.
#14 OK.
#14 let's sing.
Umm, just the first verse in the course. OK, someone started please.
How are you watching the one of the land?
You know in each one of us needs to ask that question. Are we washed in the blood of the Lord Jesus?
I hope each boy and each girl, each older one here today can say that, yes, I am washed. I am. You know, it's a privilege to be a Christian. Wonderful. I want to tell a little story. And some of you children already know the story because Uncle George Koval, he, he, he told us this story in Rita Ferry.
And a couple weeks ago, or actually last week, I guess we had what we call in Rideau Ferry a gospel supper. And we have invitations made-up. Uncle Andy met and he made-up some invitations for us and we could pass them to our neighbors and we could invite people to come to our our little hall there and hear the gospel. But you know, before the gospel is a supper. And so we decided that we would have a nice roast beef supper for our neighbors.
And then we, a lot of us, invited our friends and neighbors.
And we had a nice time together and the Lord blessed the word that was given.
But I wanna tell you what Uncle George told us. He invited a man to come to the gospel meeting.
And well, to the gospel supper, and the man said, you know, I really like to come to the suppers.
But he said the problem is that after supper.
Then usually somebody talks for a little while.
And he says I don't like the talk.
I don't like to hear that. You know what the talk is about. The talk is about being able to go to heaven through the Lord Jesus and how he died for us on the cross. And you know this man, he said that he didn't like the talk.
And so he didn't want to come.
To the supper 'cause he didn't wanna have to hear the talk.
00:10:00
You know, he said something else that's very, very, very, very sad.
He said, you know what, I don't want to go to heaven, He said I want to go to hell.
That is absolutely terrible.
You know, I said to Uncle George after I said, you know, that man obviously doesn't know what hell is like. If he wants to go to hell, then he doesn't know how bad it is.
And this week as I've been working in.
Sometimes when I'm having a shower, sometimes when I'm laying in bed, sometimes when I'm praying. I think this man and I've been thinking a little bit about hell.
I'm gonna tell you another story, Bohel.
There used to be a Bible conference in Montreal at a high school.
When I was a boy, when I used to come to Sunday school like you guys and you girls.
And there was a lot of people.
And you know, one night there was an old brother.
He is probably not that old compared to me now, but I thought he was old and he was speaking about health. How bad hell is?
And you know what? He reminded all the kids.
He reminded us about the things that we have done that are wrong.
Before God, you know, in this world there's a lot of people who steal stuff. They take things that don't belong to them.
And if they want to steal something that's out here, they walk across and they look this way, and they look this way, and they look behind them and they go, oh, there's nobody going to see. So they reach out and they take it and they put it in their pocket and away they go. And they forget to look up because who sees this for it? God, he sees everything. We don't get away with anything.
And that's called a sin.
When we steal. But that's not the only sin I did. I stole stuff.
I was unkind to my brother, to my sisters. I told my dad and mom, no, I'm not going to do that. I was rebellious sometimes India.
The eyes of the Lord are in every place, that's true.
Comes from this book, the Bible, that we're going to open in a couple of minutes, Lord willing.
But I was just thinking how that a lot of people they think.
That they can do bad stuff and get away with it. They can sin and it doesn't matter if no one else knows. Oh, well, it's OK then. But that's not the way it is because God.
Sees everything and God has a perfect record of everything. And I was telling you about this story when I was a boy, and this man was telling us about our sins and how God was going to hold us responsible for everything that we did.
That was wrong every sin we did and I got thinking in that meeting.
About the things that I did, I got thinking about the times that I had taken things that weren't mine.
I had to tell you a story about something.
My brother used to have a desk. OK, I don't know if my brother's here. Where is he? Is he here? There he is at the back. So he can tell you that this is true. If you wanna ask him after, he used to have this desk and in the top drawer of his desk, right? He would have his candy.
And you know what? I like candy. So sometimes when my uncle, when Uncle Rob was not there in the room, I would go over and pull open the drawer and reach in and take a candy, hmm, that tastes good. And I would eat his candy. That's stealing. And you know what? I thought I'm OK. My mom doesn't know, my dad doesn't know, and Rob doesn't know. I got away with it.
Oh, what about the Lord? The Lord saw me take that candy and he wrote it down.
Sin Paul took Rob's candy.
Right, that's what it is. That's how it works. Every time we send, it's recorded. Now what about our sins? God can't have sin in this presence.
00:15:11
So what happens if we die and our sins aren't forgiven?
Then we have to go to hell, and we heard about hell last night.
And this man in the story of Uncle George, he said I want to go to hell, but this man doesn't know how bad hell is. Now I want you to think for a minute about going swimming.
In the summer where I live, there's a lake on one side and a river on the other, and at the end of the day we're sometimes hot and sweaty and it feels so good to just get your bathing suit and go into the water and let the water go all around you. It feels so good and you're refreshed.
I want to read a little verse in Revelation chapter 20.
Revelation 20 and verse 15. We don't want to.
Not going to spend a lot of time on this.
When in Revelation chapter 20 and verse 15 at the end it says.
The Lake of Fire.
Now I like to go swimming in Bass Lake. I like to go swimming in the Rideau River.
But those are lakes of water, and when I'm hot, it's so refreshing.
But this is telling us a little bit about how awful hell is.
A lake of fire. Can you imagine being in a lake that was full of fire?
You know this man said he wanted to go to hell. He wanted to swim in a lake of fire for the rest of eternity. Is he crazy?
Let me ask you this do you want to swim in a lake of fire?
You know, at our house, we have a fireplace in our kitchen that gets really, really, really hot. And that's how we heat our house all winter because it gets cold where we live. And one day, when this little boy, Tom, was little, he was just two years old.
And a coal, a little burning piece of wood that was red hot. It trickled out of the fireplace and was sitting on the hearth, on the on the stone.
And you know what he thought? He thought, oh, that's pretty. That looks really neat look. And it's beautiful, nice and red. And he reached over and he picked it up.
And I grabbed him and I our sink was right there. I turned the cold water on and our water is really cold in the winter time. I turned it on and I held his hand under the water for a long time and still he until he started to cry and say it's too cold.
And you know.
God has made our bodies so well that he didn't even have any mark on his skin when we were done.
There was no burn, no scar, nothing.
The cold water made it all better. Well, I was thinking of this first. The lake of fire. What a terrible thing hell is. Now back to the story of when I was a little boy. So what do you think I did?
When I got home.
Back to the motel.
I couldn't get to sleep. I remember this very well. I couldn't get to sleep. I was remembering the times that I pulled open the door to the drawer for Uncle Rob's death, and I'd reached in and I'd taken those Smarties, I'd taken those caramels. I'd taken all the nice things, pieces of gum that I wanted. I remembered that. But I remembered a lot of other bad things. I did, too.
And you know, I remember laying in bed and my brother went to sleep.
He was in the bed beside me. He was sleeping fine and my parents went to sleep.
But not me, because I was scared. I knew that I had sinned and I knew that I wasn't saved.
And you know what I did?
00:20:02
I didn't get saved. I fell asleep.
I didn't get saved.
I didn't accept the Lord Jesus as my Savior. And you know, last night we heard about the love of the Lord Jesus.
We heard how the Lord Jesus died on the cross and how His blood washes away sins.
And it's the only way we can have our sins forgiven. Was there a boy or a girl? And you said, yes, I sinned. But then you went to sleep and you said, oh, I'm not going to get saved now. I'm going to wait a while.
You know, that was very foolish for me to do that. What if something had happened to me? What if the Lord Jesus had come and I wasn't ready to go? Then I would have been in this lake of fire.
You know, there's some other little things I'm gonna tell you about.
You know, there's another verse that says three times over, it says.
Where the fire is not quenched and it says the worm dieth not. Now that's hard for a little guy, your little girl, to understand.
But there's a little voice in all of us. You know, when I was opening that desk of Uncle Rob's and I was pulling open that little drawer to get the candy, there was a little voice inside of me that said.
Oh, you shouldn't be doing that.
You know that little voice comes from God.
And that little voice will always remind somebody who had a chance to accept the Lord Jesus. That little voice will always remind them you sat in Sunday school in Montreal and that man warned you about this lake that you're in.
You know the fire of hell will never end, and it tells us that hell was not made for people.
But you know what? People have to go there that don't want to go to heaven. And I can't believe that man would say that to Uncle George.
I don't want to go to hell. He doesn't know how bad it is. He doesn't know. And children, it's terrible. And that's why the Lord Jesus told us more than anybody else how bad it was so we wouldn't go there because he loves us so much. And that's why the Lord Jesus suffered on the cross, so that we could have our sins forgiven. That's why his blood was shed. That's why he died. And it says the blood of Jesus Christ, his Son, cleanseth us.
From all sin.
Now we're gonna look at a little story in the book of Luke.
And this is going to get us into our subject today, Luke chapter 16.
This is one of my favorite stories in the whole Bible. I hope you boys and girls really love your Bibles.
Do you love your Bible? You do. I know what you do because you were smiling when I said that. That's good.
Every child here, I trust you. Love this book, God's wonderful book, the Bible.
So Luke chapter 16 and we're going to read from verse 19. But before we do, I want to just tell you how important conferences are. I remember them from when I was a boy. I remember sitting on the front row and thinking, what is that man talking about? Wow, does that affect me? I remember the conferences that I went to when I was a boy. I'm so glad that I got to go and you know.
We talked about this a little bit yesterday. Mr. Mr. Roach told us about how thankful we should be that our parents brought us here. You know, I want to ask you boys and girls to do something on the way home. If the Lord leaves us here, I want you to thank your parents. Say thanks, Dad, or thanks, Mom, for bringing me to the conference. I'm so glad I got to hear the meetings, to be with my friends, to have fun at the hotel. Thanks, Dad. Thanks, Mom.
You know we need encouragement too, don't we as parents?
So Luke chapter 16, verse 19.
There was a certain rich man which was clothed in purple and fine linen.
And fared sumptuously every day. And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate full of sores, and desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table. Moreover, the dogs came and licked his sores. You know, boys and girls, we have a dog at our house. Our dog is a pretty big dog, and he has a long tongue.
00:25:17
And sometimes.
When I hook him up after taking him for a walk, I bend over and you know what he tries to do.
He tries to lick me, his big tongue goes across my face and I'm like, oh.
But this poor man, Lazarus.
He was a beggar. He was so poor. He said, please, can you give me something? And so he sat beside the table of this rich man. And when the rich man was done with eating a bone or something, he maybe would leave a little bit on the bone and push it off the table like this on the floor. And then the the poor Lazarus, he he'd reach over and pick it up. And if there was some food left on it, he would eat it.
And then, you know, because he didn't get very good food, he got sick and he had some sores on him. And then the dogs came and they licked the sores.
Don't you feel sorry for this man Lazarus? He was so poor he had crummy food.
And then the dogs licked his sores. It's really sad, but you know, there's something special about him.
You know he trusted God.
For the little bit of food that he did get and when he was sick, he trusted God to help him to feel better.
But the rich man who had all this nice food and dressed in nice clothes?
And through the little bit to the poor man.
You know what I'm afraid from this story that he didn't really worry too much about God. He didn't worry about him. He didn't even think about him. And you know, there's a lot of people in the world and maybe there's somebody like that here.
And you're thankful for all the things God has made. You're thankful for the boat you have.
You're thankful for the roads, you're thankful for the lake to swim in, for the place where your house is. You're thankful for the food that you eat. You're thankful for the wood that you burn in your fireplace, for the pretty fire that God made. But you say to God, thanks a lot, but I don't want you. I'll take all the good from you, but you just stay away from me. Let me live my own life. I want to do it my way.
You just leave me be and then all this to enjoy all you provided for me, but you stay out of my life. There's somebody like that here today. You say I like what I have, but God, you just stay right over there. You leave me alone. I can run it myself.
Am I speaking to anyone's conscience this morning? I'm speaking to me. It's a tendency in all of our hearts to be independent of God.
If you wanna do it our way, you know this rich man, he wanted it his way and he did it his way. You know, the end thereof is the ways of death. We learn, learn about that in Proverbs.
Verse 22 It came to pass that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom. The rich man also died and was buried. And in hell he lifted up his eyes, being in torment, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. And he cried, and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water.
And cool my tongue, for I am tormented in this flame.
But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receiveth thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things. But now he is comforted, and now are tormented. And beside all this, between US and you there is a great goal fixed, so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot, neither can they pass to you that would come from thence then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou would have sent him.
To my Father's house, for I have 5 brethren or five brothers.
That he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.
Abraham said unto him, They have Moses and the prophets, let him, let them hear them.
And he said, Nay, father Abraham, But if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.
And he said unto them, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though 1 rose from the dead.
00:30:07
So I'm going to tell you another little story. I said to my wife yesterday. I said, you know so and so. He's looking older. His hair is getting whiter.
And you know, I looked in the mirror this morning and I'm getting older too. I'm not little anymore. I'm not a young person anymore. I'm sort of upper middle age now.
It's kind of scary.
But you know what? We can't stay here forever. I'm just, excuse me for a minute. There's a little thing in my Bible case I want to get.
Who can tell me what this is?
Rebecca, a picture. OK, now you can tell me a little bit more about this picture. What's the date on the bottom?
Right. So this man, he lived from April the 5th 1945 to September the 27th, 2013.
That means that this man in this picture.
He died.
I love this man, and you know what? He loves the Lord Jesus. So because I love the Lord Jesus too, this man and me are going to spend eternity together in heaven.
Isn't that comforting? I worked with this man for eight years. He's a little older than me, but you know what? He wasn't saved until he was probably almost 40 years old.
And he had some real problems in his life.
He couldn't control habits that he had and he was desperate.
And one day somebody told him about the Lord Jesus.
You know, I went to his funeral and the man at Hewlett-Packard that hired him.
Gave a testimony of what a good employee he was, and you know what he said? There was a time in Vince's life when he changed.
He changed.
You know this man is not a believer, but he could see the change that was wrought in this man because he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior.
You know, I was so glad to be able to be at this man's funeral because it was a happy funeral. We were sad that Vince was gone. But you know, it was a good funeral, if I can say it that way, because people who were at the funeral were told exactly how to get to heaven, how to have their sins forgiven, how Jesus gave his life for sinners like us.
And there was an invitation given to everyone that was there to accept the Savior like Vince did, and to have their life changed too, and to know that they were going to go to heaven.
When I was in high school.
I went to school with this guy called Gord. Gordon and I went to high school and then we went to university together. So we were friends, we did projects together, we did all kinds of things. He lived on the next street for me for 9 years. I knew Gord very well, and Gord knew the Gospel very well too. But Gord never accepted the Lord Jesus as a savior. A couple of weeks ago, his dad died.
And so.
I went to the funeral.
And you know what? It was a sad funeral.
The man at the front, he didn't talk about how the Lord Jesus died for sinners. He didn't talk about how we can have our sins forgiven. He didn't talk about heaven. He didn't talk about hell. He didn't warn anyone about the lake of fire.
You know, I was really disappointed. It was a sad funeral, not because someone had died, yes, that's true, but because there was no presentation of the Savior at the funeral.
That's a bad funeral. OK, let's have another song.
00:35:02
OK, 46.
Girls and boys to trust in him. That's why we're here at Sunday school today and I hope each one of you trusted in the Lord Jesus as your Savior. If you haven't, you can right now. Just ask him to come into your heart. Tell him you're a Sinner, that you need to be forgiven and he will forgive you. Now we had in the last story in Luke chapter.
16 We had about this rich man and the rich man he said that he wanted one.
Drip on the tip of the finger of Abraham's finger or last finger for him to be comforted a little bit in the flames that he was in.
And when we were at Scranton Conference, Mr. Kemp told a story about a man that got lost in the desert.
And for three days he didn't have anything to drink and he was so weak he was just laying there. And after three days somebody found him in the desert and they were able to give him some water and some food so that he had nourishment and strength and he could continue to live because he was going to die if he didn't get any more water.
And somebody said to that man, what were you thinking about?
When you were laying in the sand and you had no water and you were so thirsty.
And you know what the man said? He said. I was thinking about every time I wasted a drop of water, every time I poured water down the sink, every time I got rid of some water because I wanted some water so bad.
Now what was this man asking for in the flames? He was asking for one little drop on the end of a finger put in his mouth so that he wouldn't be so hot in the flames.
And people say they want to go there.
I don't get it. Is there a boy or a girl and you aren't ready yet to go to heaven? You haven't asked the Lord Jesus to save you from your sins?
Now the subject. We have 5 minutes left.
I want to talk about brothers and sisters.
This man, the rich man, he said, oh, I have five brothers. Can you please send someone from this terrible place, from this fire, from these flames, go back to earth and tell them how bad it is here. I don't want my brothers to come here.
That's how bad this place is, that God prepared for the devil, not for people.
But people that don't want the Lord Jesus, that's where they have to go.
There's no other place.
God has heaven, and God prepared hell for the devil and his angels, but if people don't want to go to heaven, that's where they got to go.
So this man said send somebody to warn my brothers.
Now let's turn to Exodus Chapter 2.
We're gonna tell this story quickly.
I think most of us know the story of how Moses was a little fair, beautiful baby and the bad king said I want all the baby boys thrown into the river, just throw them in. We don't want them anymore. All the Israelite boys, let's get rid of them. Can you imagine all the poor dads and moms and this dad and mom had this little beautiful boy and you know, it says that he was fair to God.
00:40:16
I'd lock down and saw this beautiful baby and the king said, throw him in the water. And Moses, his parents, they hid him till he got to be too big to hide. He cried too loud. And the monk thought, why am I gonna do? And she had faith, so she took an ark.
And she put pitch and slimy stuff on the outside that wouldn't let water through. She took a little baby boy and she put him inside of that and then put it inside in the where the the bull rushes were. We know this story, so let's read Exodus 2 just a little bit.
And the daughter of Pharaoh came down to Washington herself at the river, so she saw this little ark.
One of her servants got it. She opened it up and she saw the child. And behold, the baby wept.
And then it says then, said his sister.
To Pharaoh's daughter shall I go and call to thee a nurse of the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for thee. And Pharaoh's daughter said to her, Go, And the maid went, and called the child's mother.
Now this is the sister part, the big sister. You know, I was looking around yesterday and I saw some families.
I saw India's family because India has a little brother.
And you know, Zach has a little brother and Tom has a little brother. And you know what? This older sister, her name was Miriam, she cared about her own little brother. And she probably watched her mom put that ark in the bowl rushes since she probably thought, oh, what's going to happen to my little brother? She watched to see what would happen. And then along came Pharaoh's daughter, Hope, and the ark was opened and the baby cried and.
Guess who was right there, Miriam? She's like, can I get a nurse for you? She was right there.
OK, now we're going to read another verse in John chapter one.
John, Chapter one.
And verse 35 again the next day after John stood and two of his disciples, and looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold.
The Lamb of God and the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.
Verse 41 of the two disciple, The two which heard John speak and followed him was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother.
He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messiah.
Which is being interpreted that Christ now notice this verse and he brought him to Jesus.
You know what? Andrew cared about his brother. The first thing he did, he said, ah, I'm gonna go find Peter, my brother. I'm gonna tell him.
So Miriam was the big sister.
We don't know whether Andrew was the Big Brother or not, I don't think, but maybe we'll say it this way. Andrew was the Big Brother and he said, oh, I'm going to tell Peter. Now I want to ask you guys a question. Is it possible?
To take care.
Of your brothers and sisters, and try to encourage them in the things of the Lord.
I'm going to tell you it's possible because I have a Big Brother right here that helped me.
He helped me, you know this dear man. He brought his own brother to the Lord.
Miriam took care of her little brother, too. You know, we have such a privilege to, don't we, children?
You know the Lord wants us to accept Him as our Savior, but what about our brothers and sisters?
We can encourage them too, to come to the Lord Jesus. You know, this man was warning this rich man. He warned his brothers. He wanted his brothers warned not to go to hell.
But this man he brought.
00:45:01
His own brother to the Lord Jesus, and may we have a desire for our brothers and sisters.
And children, one more opportunity you have this morning to accept the Lord Jesus as your own Savior. So as we pray, if you haven't done so, ask the Lord Jesus now to be your Savior too, right?
Some of our Blessings

Man of Sorrows.
What a name for the Son of God who came.
#13.
In the.
4th chapter of John's Gospel.
We read about a man.
Who came to the city of Samaria?
He was weary with his journey.
He was tired.
He came with.
Some of his followers.
He was hungry.
He was thirsty.
And he sat down on the well.
Those that were with him.
Went into the city. The well apparently was outside the city.
They went to get some food so they could eat and he sat on the well.
And a woman came out of the city to get water.
And this man, his name was Jesus, was sitting on the well.
And he said to her.
Give me to drink.
He asked for a drink of water.
Attired.
Hungry, thirsty man.
Asking for a drink of water. I'm sure this lady had seen many such people.
She said Why should I give you a drink?
You're a Jew. I'm a Samaritan.
And here's what he had to say.
If thou knowest the gift of God.
And who it is?
That says that saith to thee, give me to drink. Thou wouldst have asked him of him, and he would have given thee living water. It's just that turn that's in my mind.
And if you knew who it is?
That's the burden on my heart to talk about the Lord Jesus Christ.
And who he is, let's pray.
God, our loving Father, we look up to Thee.
00:05:03
We are here to tell of thy love.
To tell of the gift of thy love, thy beloved Son, our Lord Jesus Christ.
Thou knowest.
How weak we are, and feeble and telling about this one.
Whose name is wonderful.
Thy precious gift to this world, thy beloved Son.
Help that we may speak of him.
In all of his glory, all of his beauty, his lowliness, His love. Thy love, Father, in giving him.
We pray that if there's any in the room that does not yet know him.
Or does not understand who he is.
That their eyes may be open.
To see Him as thy beloved Son and receive Him as their own Savior.
Help in this time we ask, in that precious name of our Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.
Could we sing another hymn?

But I'm calling today and you're most of the evening West side. Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, 10-4.
All right, I see. And let's say, uh, 1639.

00:10:32
Could you turn with me to the book of Romans, the 1St chapter?
Romans chapter one.
Reading just the last three words, starting with the last three words of the first verse and going on to the third verse.
The Gospel.
Of God.
Concerning his son.
Jesus Christ our Lord.
The gospel, the good news that God has for us, is about His Son.
His dear son, that man.
Who was sitting by the well in?
Samaria.
Weary.
And hungry and thirsty was none other than the Son of God. Come down to this earth. What a wonderful story of love and the gospel is concerning his Son.
Do you understand who he is?
I work with people.
And I've had neighbors who use that name and they use it very lightly.
I had a neighbor who was a Ukrainian.
I understood I had a hard time.
Communicating with Wassel.
There weren't many English words that he knew. He came over when he was a grown man.
But when he curse.
There was a a word that I recognized.
It's not understood.
By and large, through this world, who this person is the glory of this person.
But the gospel is concerning the Son of God.
Verse four, He's declared the Son of God.
And we're gonna read. There's some expressions here in this first chapter.
It speaks here of the will of God in verse 10, the power of God in verse 16, the righteousness of God in verse 17, the wrath of God in verse 18.
The truth of God in verse 25. The judgment of God at the end of the chapter when we open this book.
It's like none other.
It brings us into the presence of God.
The God.
Who made us the God with whom we have to do?
You and I and every other person in this world someday will come face to face with God.
And it's best that we understand who this person is that God sent into this world. Well, the, uh, this chapter speaks about the truth of God. You know, there's much that's hidden.
There's much that's hidden about God, the truth of God.
We live in a world that.
00:15:03
Does not even own what the word of God tells us. What a wonderful book. We open up its pages and it says in the very beginning of this book it sets us on the right Rd. It says in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. And if we turn to the first chapter of the book of Hebrews.
We'll read something there about a little more about how he made the world.
About the person that we're talking about, the Son of God.
Hebrews chapter one.
And.
Verse We'll just read the first word, God.
The second verse.
Half of these last days spoken us unto us by His son.
Whom he hath appointed heir of all things.
By whom also he made the world.
The man that was sitting on sight cars well.
That asked for a drink of water.
Had made.
This world.
He made the world.
And all things in it.
The world that was made was different than the one we live in today.
There was no sin.
Many people have the idea that this world always was the way it is today, but it's not so. This wonderful book tells us in the book of Romans that something came into this world that was made by the Son of God.
It says by one man sin entered into the world.
And.
Death by sin.
We're so used to death.
We live out in the country.
A lot of trees on our property.
I remember looking out the back door over to the right there was a beautiful oak tree.
And I admired it. It was straight.
Slim, spread out.
I noticed one summer one of the limbs was dead.
I thought, uh oh.
The next year, another limb died.
The third year.
The tree died.
We've had friends.
And relatives and those who are dear to us that have passed into death. It wasn't always so.
It wasn't always so.
But this world goes on as if it was something that is just common place.
By one man's sin.
By one man sin, sin entered into the world, and death by sin.
That's a difficulty, isn't it? Death. It ends everything down here.
If God doesn't step in, every single one of us will pass into death. It's inevitable. But you know, we also read in this first chapter of the book of Romans about the will of God.
The Will of God When sin came into this world, there was a promise made by God.
There was one the enemy of your soul, Satan. Oh, he's denied too, by many in this world.
00:20:05
Who deceived the woman?
And the man disobeyed God. Sin came into this world, but there was a promise made by God, because it is not the will of God that things should continue that way.
There was a promise made that the seed of the woman shall bruise the serpent's head. The serpent was the instrument.
Satan used to deceive the woman.
That brought sin into this world and the promises made by God. The seed of the woman shall bruise the serpent's head and throughout the pages of this book.
There's a whisper, as it were, in the background.
About this promise, it's this. He is coming.
He is coming, He is coming. The family is identified through whom.
This promised one that will break the power of Satan.
The family.
The time that he would come is identified the place that he would be born.
It's told us very plainly.
And it says in the book of Galatians.
It says.
When the fullness of time was come, God.
Sent forth his son.
Why his son?
Couldn't someone else do this? Work out a plan of redemption?
There was no one else found worthy.
As it were, a search had been made.
God looked down upon the children of men to see if there were any.
That understood, there were none, they were all gone astray, they had altogether become unprofitable. There was none that too that could, that did good, No, not one. And when the fullness of time was come, God sent forth his Son. God sent forth his Son. And he said, as you can read in the book of Hebrews.
Lo, I come in the volume of the book. It is written of me to do thy will, O God.
He was here to fulfill the will of God. He was here to fulfill the promise.
That God had made so long ago.
And he came and when he came to SYCAR as well.
Probably in a very in an early part of his ministry here on earth.
He spent 3 1/2 years.
In this world.
But always he had something before him.
He was on his way to Calvary. He was on his way to a cross. He was there to endure the wrath of God. We read about that in this chapter, The wrath of God.
Wrath is an awful thing.
You know.
Through the Old Testament.
There were times when God's judgment was going to fall.
We read about it in the land of Egypt.
God's judgment was going to fall the wrath of God on that country.
And there was a way that some could be protected from that wrath, that could be protected from that judgment.
00:25:01
And it had to do with a lamb being killed and the blood of that lamb.
Applied to the door posts and to the lentil.
A lamb died.
So that the people inside that house would be safe. And God said, when I see the blood, I will pass over you. That was a little picture to us of this wonderful truth that's taught in the word of God, the truth of substitution.
That someone could take the guilty person's place.
That's what happened back in the Garden of Eden when Adam and Eve sinned.
God killed an animal.
Took the skin of that animal and covered them. The lamb was killed in Egypt. The blood of the lamb was put there upon the sides of the door and the top of the door, and those inside were safe. A little picture. When God looked at the blood of the lamb on that door, he was reminded of something that was going to happen.
When his beloved son.
Came down to this earth and went to the cross of Calvary, there to endure the wrath of God. He went there to be a substitute for you.
And for me, the only one who could do that, everyone else had gone astray, everyone else had turned aside, had become unprofitable. And here was the holy, spotless Son of God when he was born into this world.
The woman, the seed of the woman that we talked about, was told That holy thing that shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
The Son of God.
You know what, Holiness?
Is.
It's difficult to understand for those of us.
Who were so immersed in sin?
We sometimes think that.
God does not like sin, that's true.
And we say that God does not want sin, and that's true, but it's more than that. God cannot have sin in his presence.
He cannot have it. It is totally impossible for him to have sin in His presence because He is holy. He is holy and his life.
He is light. Do you know what that means?
You know, if I had a light bulb up here and a very bright light and I held my finger up to that light, my finger would look red because some of the light is shining through my finger.
But when the word of God says that God is light?
He dwelleth in light that no man can approach to.
It's a blaze of light that goes through everything.
Nothing can be hid from him. Absolutely nothing. Do you think you can hide something from God? You can hide nothing.
A blaze of light that sees everything.
Everything.
We've all heard.
Of the cross of Christ.
And how he went there.
And how man did not want him.
It says in the book of Isaiah we hid.
As it were, our faces from him.
00:30:05
Just like that woman who as much as said, who are you that I should give you something to drink?
He was despised.
But he went to that cross so cruelly treated. He went there to be a substitute for your sin and mine. And he knew what the wrath of God was all about. Oh, we get so used to sin. We think lightly of it. We laugh at sin, we make jokes about sin. But to him it was no joke. He knew that God is light.
He knew the wrath of God and we read about him going to the Garden of Gethsemane.
It was difficult for him.
To go to the cross because he was holy, it was repulsive to him. Sin is an abomination to God. Do you know what that word means? It's something that's disgusting.
And as he thought of going there to be the substitute for my sins and for yours, if you'll put your trust in him, the Son of God.
He sweat.
As it were great drops of blood, and prayed to his father. Father, if it be possible, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless not my will, but thine be done. And he went to that cross of Calvary, And in those three there were three hours of light, when man did their worst to him.
And then the scene was dark.
It was shut up from man's eyes. What happened in those three hours?
We sing about it sometimes, those hours of darkness.
He suffered for sinners on Calvary's cross.
All forsaken alone.
My sense.
Were placed on him.
The sins of all that would put their trust in Him. Your sins. He became the Sin Bearer, the creator of this world, The one who made you and me, the one who loved us.
Went to the cross of Calvary, the Son of God.
Think of it, the Son of God. He was forsaken.
By his God, the God that he had trusted in, the God that he had lived for, the God whose will he had come to do, he was forsaken of God.
On the cross of Calvary.
And he died.
The word of God says the soul that sinneth.
It shall die. That's why we die.
The soul that sinneth it shall die. He paid the ultimate penalty for sin.
He bowed his head.
And he died.
The Son of God.
Who loved me?
He loved you.
And he gave himself for me.
He was buried. Kind hands took him down from the cross. Those who loved him.
They buried him.
We read in Ephesians what happened.
We read about the power of God Ephesians chapter one.
We read about the power of God, chapter one and verse 19. And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to usward, who believe according to the working of his mighty power, which he wrought in Christ, and raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in heavenly places?
00:35:26
On the cross.
My sins were placed upon Him.
He suffered for those sins. He went into death.
And he was raised by the power of God, a holy God.
Raised him from the dead.
Not only was he raised from the dead.
But he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in heavenly places.
Do you know, do you understand what that means if there was one sin left on him?
That could never take place.
He was raised from the dead.
And he's ascended up to glory. Do you know what that means? My sins are gone.
They're gone and God has said their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more. The mighty Son of God has dealt with the question of sin. He's been raised to the right hand of God.
He raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in heavenly places.
The right hand of power, The right hand of power, the Son of God has been raised. He was raised for our justification. When I look up by faith and see him there, as the word of God tells me, I can know and know with assurance that my sins.
Are gone forever.
And he's there at God's right hand.
That's something that's hidden, that's something that's hidden from this world.
Uh, Second Corinthians.
Chapter 4.
We read a little more about the gospel.
Chapter 4 and verse.
Three. But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost, in whom the God of this world hath blinded the minds of them that believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel, or the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. It's something that.
Hidden.
The God of this world, have you ever, Do you understand the story of the gospel? If you don't, God has blinded your eyes. The God of this world, Satan himself, has blinded not just your eyes, but your mind. A blind mind not to understand.
That Christ, the Lord Jesus Christ, the beloved Son of God.
Is there at God's right hand?
And he's coming.
Again, he's coming again.
The uh.
When Jesus rose from the dead, he took his own out to.
Mount of Olives.
He blessed them, He raised his hands and blessed them, and he was parted from them.
And they saw him go up to heaven. And the Angel said this same Jesus.
00:40:01
Whom ye have seen taken up into heaven shall come again. In like manner he's going to come.
He's going to take first, he's going to take all of his own home forever to be with himself.
Those that are washed in his precious blood, he's gonna call and we're gonna answer. And everyone that has put their trust in him.
Will go up and I'm waiting for that time. Are you? Is that your hope? Is that what you're waiting for or are your hopes down here in this world?
And a few years after that happened, he's gonna come another time. He's gonna come and reign in this world.
The man that sat.
At Sidecar as well, who is weary, hungry and thirsty? The Son of God.
Is going to come into this world.
The most important person in the world won't be the president of the United States or the head man in Russia or in any other country.
The Son of God is going to reign. He's going to take his place as a man.
And reign in this world.
Are you waiting for him? Are you looking for him? Does it thrill your soul that?
He is the one.
That saved your soul. You know we often talk.
Our time is gone.
It slips away so quickly.
There are other scriptures I would like to have read.
We talk about the Lord Jesus coming into this world.
Again, to take us actually won't come into the world. He's gonna come in the clouds and call us away. But you know.
I was impressed recently.
That it's more than us.
More than us that have been redeemed with his precious blood that are waiting for him.
In the in the book of Haggai, I believe.
The Lord Jesus is called the desire of all nations. You pay attention to what's going on in the world. There's no peace.
There's fighting. Do you think this world wants peace? Of course they do.
But they don't know how to go about getting it.
The Prince of Peace was crucified. He was put to death.
He is the desire of all nations.
They don't know who it is. They want peace.
And don't know that he is the one.
Some time ago.
Some friends we were out West.
And we were hiking up into the Teton Mountains.
And as we walked, enjoying God's creation, we walked out of the trees into meadows of flowers, looking up at the sun.
It was beautiful, I took pictures, I enjoyed it.
Enjoyed the creation that God has made, that which the Son of God.
Has placed here.
We proceeded up to the to the, uh, our destination, and we're coming down later in the day. The sun had gone behind the mountains.
00:45:01
And we stepped out from the trees.
And one of the men that was with us said, look at the flowers.
MMM.
And we looked at the flowers. The flowers weren't looking up at the sun anymore.
All of them had turned.
And we're facing the East.
The East.
Their heads were bowed down.
One of the brothers said.
Doth not nature itself teach you?
Why were they looking for the East? Well, you say, I understand they were waiting for the sun to come up. Yes, that's true.
You know what the word of God says unto you. I don't want to misquote it.
Last chapter of Malachi.
But unto you that fear my name.
Shall the Sun of Righteousness.
Arise with healing in his wings.
It spoke to our hearts.
Not only am I looking for him.
Not only is every believer looking for him, not only is he the desire of all nations.
But the earnest expectation of the creature is waiting for him. All creation is waiting for the manifestation of the Son of God.
That's who he is, the Creator, the sustainer, the Savior. Can you say he is my Savior? Can you say with the Apostle Paul, one who at one time cursed the name of Jesus, he said the Son of God who loved me and gave himself for me, dear Thomas fell at his feet.
And said.
My Lord.
And my God.
In our desire for you is that you would know Him. Come to know him as your own Savior. Put your trust in him. Look to Him.
There's life in that. Look, He came to give you life. Let's pray.

A few days ago.
I reread the letter of invitation to this conference.
And I noticed that it started with a quotation from.
Psalm 127.
Accept the Lord, build the house.
They labor in vain that build it.
This reminded me one of the one of the Old Testament prophets.
He doesn't actually call himself a prophet, he calls himself a messenger.
And yes, not one message, but 5 messages for builders.
And I refer to the Prophet.
Perhaps we can read the 1St chapter?
In the second year of Dorothy the King, in the sixth month, in the first day of the month, came the word of the Lord I Haggai the prophet, unto Zerubbabel the son of Shallotteal, governor of Judah, and to Josette the high priest, saying so, and Joshua the son of Joseph the high priest, saying. Thus speaketh the Lord of hosts saying This, people say, the time is not come.
00:10:17
The time that the Lords House should be built.
Then came the word of the Lord by Haggai the prophet saying.
Is it time for you OU to dwell in your sealed houses? And this house lie waste? Now therefore, thus saith the Lord of Hosts. Consider your ways. You have so much and bring in little. You eat, but you have not enough. You drink, but you're not filled with drink. You clothe you, but there is none warm. And here the earnest wages, earnest wages to put it into a bag with holes.
Thus saith the Lord of Hosts, consider your ways, go up to the mountain and bring wood and build the house.
And I will take pleasure in it.
And I will be glorified, saith the Lord.
You look for much and like it came to little.
And when you brought it home, I did blow up on it.
Why, I said the Lord of hosts, because of mine house, that is waste. And you run every man to his own house. Therefore the heavens over you is stayed from do, and the earth has stayed from earth fruit. And I called for a drought upon the land, and upon the mountains, and upon the corn, and upon the new wine, and upon the oil, and upon that which the ground bringeth forth, and upon men, and upon cattle, and upon all the labour of the hands.
Then deruppable the sun shall a tale. And Joshua the son of Jonathan the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of the Lord dear God, and the words of Haggai the prophet, as the Lord their God had sent him, and the people did fear before the Lord. Then spake Haggai the Lords messenger, the Lord's message unto the people, saying, I am with you, saith the Lord. And the Lord stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel.
The son of Shilla 2, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua, the son of Jodadec, the high priest.
And the spirit of all the remnant of the people. And they came and did work in the House of the Lord of hosts, their God, in the four and 20th month, sorry, four and 20th day of the sixth month, in the second year of Darius the king.
Perhaps we need a little bit of background to set this scripture and its context.
We know that the children of Israel are after.
Repeated idolatry.
Were declared by God as not my people.
And taken away captive to Babylon.
Then, according to the prophecy of.
Jeremiah.
After 70 years, the king came along. Cyrus.
And he invited.
The Jews to go back to Jerusalem.
We might have thought well.
That was a great opportunity.
But we find that of the perhaps millions of Jews that were in exile in Babylon, only a few.
Responded to that call. Only a few remarks responded to the call to act on God's Word and return to God's divine center. And so we find a remnant of some 40,000.
Return to Jerusalem.
They returned with lots of enthusiasm. They put the.
Ultron its base.
They resume the offerings.
That continual burnt offering which?
Speaks to God of Christ.
They started to build the foundation and they built the foundation of the temple.
And then they quit.
True that, their enemies.
Got the new thing to.
Forbid them to do the work and. But here we find from Haggai that.
It wasn't just a case of the command of the king, it was a question of what was in their hearts.
They were building them some cells, some fancy properties.
00:15:03
But if you ask them about the Lord's house, well, someday we'll get round to it.
Not the right time.
And Haggy, I heard the Lord's message that gives them a message.
What is the message?
First I go up into the mountains and bring wood and build the house, and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, saith the Lord.
This is the first message, first message of five and go through all of them.
Start building that house.
You know we can. When we take up the Old Testament, it's a series of pictures.
And what's the picture that we get here?
Where do we read about Christian construction?
Well, in.
3rd chapter of First Corinthians it says you are labourers together with God.
God's husbandry and God's building.
And then the Apostle Paul then goes on to talk about the quality of construction.
Somewhat.
Add gold, silver and precious stones and others would hang a stubble.
But notice what it says here.
I will take pleasure in it and I will be glorified, saith the Lord.
Well, I believe as Christian builders, if the Lord is our object, there'll be no problem with the quality of construction. If self comes in it in any way, then it's woodland.
Let's look also at first. First, sorry, Ephesians 4.
The 7th.
But unto everyone of us it's given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.
Now their time is limited. Let's go on to the verse 11. And he gave some apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers for the perfecting of the Saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ.
Well, we get some of the prominent gifts here mentioned, but notice that.
Seventh Verse To every one of us is given grace.
Everyone that knows the Lord Jesus Christ in this room.
Is given something.
That I can use.
To build in his church.
Every one of us.
And so as we think of that prophecy of Hadiya, he wanted to stir up the people to build.
Are we building?
What's our objective in our pathway down here? Is it to make ourselves as comfortable as possible, like those who in Hagel S time 14 years went on and there was no construction in that house. They just built to make themselves comfortable?
But to every one of us is given grace.
And the responsibility to use it.
In the building of that house, for the perfecting of the Saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying, that word edifying means building up.
The evangelist builds up the church by adding bricks.
What about the rest of us?
Well, we know we all have to do the work of the evangelist.
Is there someone who needs encouragement?
Is there someone who needs help? Maybe practical help?
Are we exercised that we might build?
Or are we content to turn up on Lord's Day morning and then go home and look after ourselves?
Is a scripture in the 4th of.
4th of Zechariah.
00:20:02
That describes these days.
It was just a remnant that answered the call to come back to Jerusalem.
But notice what it says.
Verse ten of four. Oh sorry, I should read from verse 9.
The hands of the rubble have laid the foundation of this house. Yes, the rubble.
He would have been rightfully king had they not been under the domination of the Babylonians. He was the man who was right for the king.
The hands of the rubble have laid the foundation of the house.
On this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. So we get a picture there of the Lord Jesus Christ.
His hands also shall finish it.
And thou shalt know that the Lord of Hosts has sent me unto you.
Who hath despised the day of small things?
For they shall rejoice.
And see the plummet in the hand of the rubber ball with those seven.
They are the eyes of the law which run to and fro over the whole earth.
What's the message here?
Sir Robert was building.
The Lord said I will build my church.
Christ loved the Church and gave himself for him.
He might sanctify it.
Clinching, he might present it to himself, a glorious church, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing.
And they rejoiced to see the plummet, the Plumb line in the hand of rubble. The rubble was building, even though it was the day of small things. It was only a remnant.
Just a few.
Out of the whole nation of Israel.
Are you building?
MI.
Let's get on to the next message. We don't have a lot of time.
We find that the result of that message was that there was an exercise to build and rubber ball begins building.
The next message is.
Verse 12, Sorry. Verse 13 then Haggai, the Lord's message.
In the Lord's message and to the people saying.
I am with you.
Set the law. I am with you, saith the Lord.
A remarkable statement because as we mentioned, it was only a few a remnant. It's the word remnant is used in this chapter a couple of times.
