8*. My Soul, Repeat His Praise
S.M.
by I. Watts
My soul, repeat His praise
Whose mercies are so great;
Whose anger is so slow to rise,
“But the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children's children.” (Psalm 103:17)
High as the heavens are raised
Above the earth we tread,
So far the riches of God’s grace
Our highest thoughts exceed.
“For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him.” (Psalm 103:11)
His power subdues our sin;
Far as the east is from the west,
Did all our guilt remove.
“As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.” (Psalm 103:12)
Man’s life is as the grass,
Or like the morning flower;
If one sharp blast sweep o’er the field,
“As for man, his days are as grass: as a flower of the field, so he flourisheth. For the wind passeth over it, and it is gone; and the place thereof shall know it no more.” (Psalm 103:15-16)
But Thy compassions, Lord,
And all Thy people ever find
Thy word of promise sure.
“But the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children's children. To such as keep his covenant, and to those that remember his commandments to do them.” (Psalm 103:17-18)
