Name-Calling

MAT 5:22²²But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire. (Matthew 5:22)

This is pretty strong! Jesus is telling His followers to be really careful about name-calling. The word fool here actually means a “godless, moral reprobate.” Perhaps we don’t mean it in that sense when we call someone a fool, but this verse has always made me very careful what I call someone. Names of ridicule should never come from our lips about anyone else. I know, it’s hard at times, especially when you are picked on by someone at school. But ask the Lord to help you to say kind things about and to others.
