Strong’s Dictionary of Greek Words:
Transliteration:
perioikos
Meaning:
from 4012 and 3624; housed around, i.e. neighboring (used elliptically as a noun)
From Manners and Customs of the Bible:
Luke 10:29. He, willing to Justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbor?
The Jews gave a very narrow definition of the word “neighbor.” The robbing interpreted it to mean only those who were of the Jewish people. The Gentiles were not considered neighbors.
