24*. Nothing but Christ, as on We Tread

L.M.
by S.O. Cluff
1
Nothing but Christ, as on we tread,

The Gift unpriced — God’s living Bread,

With staff in hand and feet well shod,

Nothing but Christ — the Christ of God.
“For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” (Philippians 1:21)
“And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.” (John 6:35)
“I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.” (John 6:51)
“And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace.” (Ephesians 6:15)
“And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.” (Matthew 16:16)
2
Everything loss for Him below,

Taking the cross where’er we go;

Showing to all where once He trod,

Nothing but Christ — the Christ of God.
“Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ.” (Philippians 3:8)
“For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.” (1 Corinthians 2:2)
3
Nothing save Him, in all our ways,

Giving the theme for ceaseless praise;

Our whole resource along the road,

Nothing but Christ — the Christ of God.
“I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.” (John 15:5)
“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” (Philippians 4:13)
