"Nothing Like Giving"

THIS is so important and so true that I want to tell all the “Message” readers. Even the devil is outwitted, nay, conquered, by giving. You shall hear. God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son to save the World. God the Son died upon the Cross; He gave Himself a ransom for many. God the Holy Spirit, the third Person in the Holy Trinity, gives Himself to all who will receive Him, to dwell in them.
A dear soldier wrote to Dr. Wreford these words on his card asking for a Testament: — “I am one of His; I want to help others. Will you send me four to give?” That is it, directly we are His we ought and should want to help, to give, give life to others. I sent him the four Testaments at once, and prayed they might be blessed. Learn to give a portion of what God gives you back to Him, if only a penny a day or a week. Sometimes a child of God may keep back from giving when there is plenty of means to do so, and thus sustain spiritual loss. Many a time in years gone by I have said to a dear lady friend of mine, who was a devout Christian, a worker for God, lovingly helping to save souls, but terrible doubts assailed her mind as to her own safety — so many a time did I say to her: “Do not give place to the devil; resist him and believe you are safe in Christ.” For the poor dear for many years was in deep despondency of soul, thinking she was lost — such misery, morning, noon and night. Well, to my great delight, she recovered from the snare of the devil, and rejoiced once more in Christ her Saviour after eight years of misery. How did It happen? By giving. One day site said to her faithful maid, “I know I ought to send a check to So-and-So, but I can’t find heart to do it. When shall I?” The maid replied, “Do it now, at once.” She wrote and sent the check that day, and the devil fled at once; he was conquered by her giving. From that day to her death she rejoiced in her Saviour.
Now, dear reader, think about it. “Do I give? Am I giving myself to bible study, giving myself to earnest prayer, and, lastly, giving myself to work for God, by trying to win souls to Him; giving help to send His Word to our Soldiers and Sailors?”’ Ever remember there is “nothing like giving.”
