79*. Our Great High Priest Is Sitting

7,6.
by A.P. Cecil
1
Our great High Priest is sitting

At God’s right hand above,

For us His hands uplifting,

In sympathy and love:

Whilst here below, in weakness,

We onward speed our way;

In sorrow oft and sickness,

We sigh and groan and pray.
“Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high.” (Hebrews 1:3)
“Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.” (Hebrews 4:14-15)
2
Through manifold temptation,

My soul holds on her course,

Christ’s mighty intercession

Alone is her resource;

My gracious High Priest’s pleadings,

Who on the cross did bleed,

Bring down God’s grace and blessings,

Help in each hour of need.
“My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations.” (James 1:2)
“Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.” (Hebrews 7:25)
“Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16)
3
Oh, Jesus, blessed Savior,

We hope to see Thee soon,

Who once on earth didst suffer,

Who soon for us wilt come;

’Twas God’s most gracious favor,

That gave His Son to die —

To live our Intercessor,

To plead for us on high.
“For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry.” (Hebrews 10:37)
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)
“And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.” (Romans 8:27)
“Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.” (Romans 8:34)
