(little pears). Stony secretions of the pearl-oyster. Reckoned as gems and highly prized as ornaments. Source of frequent metaphor (Matt. 13:45⁴⁵Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls: (Matthew 13:45); 1 Tim. 2:9⁹In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; (1 Timothy 2:9); Rev. 17:4; 21:21⁴And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet color, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication: (Revelation 17:4)
