An important Judahite family (1 Chron. 27:23²³But David took not the number of them from twenty years old and under: because the Lord had said he would increase Israel like to the stars of the heavens. (1 Chronicles 27:23); Neh. 11:4-6⁴And at Jerusalem dwelt certain of the children of Judah, and of the children of Benjamin. Of the children of Judah; Athaiah the son of Uzziah, the son of Zechariah, the son of Amariah, the son of Shephatiah, the son of Mahalaleel, of the children of Perez; ⁵And Maaseiah the son of Baruch, the son of Col-hozeh, the son of Hazaiah, the son of Adaiah, the son of Joiarib, the son of Zechariah, the son of Shiloni. ⁶All the sons of Perez that dwelt at Jerusalem were four hundred threescore and eight valiant men. (Nehemiah 11:4‑6)) A twin son of Judah by Tamar (Gen. 38:29²⁹And it came to pass, as he drew back his hand, that, behold, his brother came out: and she said, How hast thou broken forth? this breach be upon thee: therefore his name was called Pharez. (Genesis 38:29)).
