The following poems, 'Sonnets to a Friend', 'The First Day of Spring', 'On the Mormons' and 'Cumberland December' have been taken from 'The Prospect' magazine issued 18481850. It was edited by William Kelly when he was 27/29 years old. The only clue to their authorship is the initial 'K'. This may denote that they were written by W. Kelly but it may indicate his first wife Elizabeth, née Montgomrey (died Guernsey 1850) or it may be another author. They are included here for interest and completeness. We leave it to the reader to judge whether they were by Mr. Kelly or not. Notes to the poems are reproduced exactly from The Prospect.'
