(pot-ware). A very ancient art and carried to great perfection. Vessels variously molded, and often elaborately decorated. The ceramic art furnishes many valuable contributions to ancient history (Gen. 24:14¹⁴And let it come to pass, that the damsel to whom I shall say, Let down thy pitcher, I pray thee, that I may drink; and she shall say, Drink, and I will give thy camels drink also: let the same be she that thou hast appointed for thy servant Isaac; and thereby shall I know that thou hast showed kindness unto my master. (Genesis 24:14); 1 Chron. 4:23²³These were the potters, and those that dwelt among plants and hedges: there they dwelt with the king for his work. (1 Chronicles 4:23); Isa. 41:25²⁵I have raised up one from the north, and he shall come: from the rising of the sun shall he call upon my name: and he shall come upon princes as upon mortar, and as the potter treadeth clay. (Isaiah 41:25); Jer. 18:3³Then I went down to the potter's house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels. (Jeremiah 18:3)).
