The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself.
This man should have known how to pray. The Old Testament Scriptures contain some wonderful examples of prayers and those who prayed them. But the Pharisee’s position made him self-reliant and proud. Instead of praying in a humble manner to God, his prayer was to himself and went nowhere. God didn’t listen to him because his attitude was wrong. God wants sincerity and humility. Coming to Him in any other way will not get results.
