Using Nobody Loves Me, by O.F. Walton (#12008) as the example
Assumptions: A new book that hasn’t been produced before, generated by MechGens.
Note: A full bleed image extends or "bleeds" to the edges of a page so that the image completely covers the entire page and does not show borders or white space around the edges.
Update and save the final body file in the corresponding Print & Ebooks folder:
X:\Print & Ebook Projects\Books\Nobody Loves Me-OFWalton-12008\12008—Product—Nobody Loves Me – Body\12008—Product—Nobody Loves Me.indd
Click ‘4up PDF’
This will auto select “Product”, “List of IDs” and “Generate Indd Outputs”
Enter the product id in the box on the top right
Click Run
It will open another window –
Select “Same as Input”
For the Input File:
Click search, and open the .indd file that was modified
Once everything looks ok, click run.
After 4up file is created:
Verify at least the following:
The last page matches the text on the original .indd’s last page.
Skim through for any images. These tend to have problems.
Look at several chapter pages, and check that they start where the TOC says they do.
If any of these were wrong:
The following notes are from memory ...
Use MechGens to export a pdf, with the parameter 'ProdTest~Test' in the Overrides textbox

Production of Books, Pamphlets, Tc

In lineup, click the line item that has the book. It should populate with the correct info (title, author, etc.) at the bottom of the screen. Then click the production tab at the top. It should load the cover on one side, and the body on the other.
Set the default printer (as shown below) for bodies & again for covers.
Print the correct number of layers need for the quantity. Layer count should show at the top of the screen, but if it doesn’t, I like to print 10% extra, (limited to 50 extra copies). If I need 50 books, and they’re printed 4 up, and covers are 2 up, the math would look something like this:
Bod: (50*1.1)/4 = 13.75. So 14 layers needed.
Cov: (50*1.1)/2 = 27.5. So 28 layers needed. Note: If an odd number are needed, I like to print an extra so that it’s an even number to get laminated. (Book covers get laminated 2 sheets at a time)
Cover paper defaults:
Book: 100lb cover, White, 12x18, glossy
Pamphlet: 80lb cover, White, 12x18, glossy
TC Overseas: 80lb text, White, 12x18 glossy
Book Body paper defaults:
11x17 paper, with the following weights depending on page count.
1-75pgs = 32lb
76-199pgs = 24lb
200-449pgs = 20lb
450+pgs = 16lb
11x17 separator (slip) sheets. Typically pink / blue. Keeps book layers separated
Typically the c7000 is used to print the color stuff, and the 1200, 1250, 6120 printers are used to print the black and white sheets.

Pamphlet & Mini Pamphlet Cover Cuts

The covers are 2 up (or 4 up for a mini pamphlet) on a 12x18 inch sheet. After printing the covers, they need to be cut down to 8.5x11 inches. The same cuts apply to mini pamphlets.

Set Default Printer in Lineup

To Set the default printer in Lineup, click the blue ‘Set Default Printer’ button in the top menu bar.
It will show a list of printer queue options, arranged by physical printer. Clicking on one of the blue (or green) buttons will set that printer q as default. This makes finding the correct printer in a list of options easier. It’s also useful/necessary when printing the addressed TC envelopes.

Gospel of Peace Calendar (Gpc)

Oy Vey. I’m not sure what all to put in here. I’ll start, then re-organize as I go.
Last updated 4-16-2021
Stock Box Label Location: X:\Production\Calendars\GPC\Labels
Overview as I see it ...
The GPC is comprised of a color shell (background) printed on the press. The press sheets are then cut down, collated, and boxed. It’s vital that the collation is right, otherwise re-printing may be necessary. The customization (black imprint?) that is comprised of language, verse, calendar pad, custom dates, logos etc., is printed with the Konica Minolta printers.
The gospel verses all come from JNC, (Ask Dan for them) but the believer’s verses are picked specifically for GPC. The believer’s verses are on the first day of the month in the daily verses. (not sure which is assigned first. Chicken or egg situation) The artistic versions need to be manually created, as well as the NKJV believers.
Use XML reader for prepping the different sets necessary. (Verse sets, Creation facts, Verse-a-day, holiday sets)
Update Dan’s config file with the new set numbers, and then create the standard versions with falcon ... bridge?. (Important to proof!!!)
There is a GPC hot folder for each of the printers on btp-apps. It is controlled by settings PageScope Direct Print
When lineup / Indesign exports a production file, it copies it to the hotfolder. Pagescope then processes the file based on the settings set inside pagescope, and puts it into a folder on the printer.

Printing Bis (Bible Searcher)

Print 4600 copies (2300 sheets) (was 6000 copies originally)
Ingredients:
Computer with Indesign, preferably Acrobat, & Photoshop as well (usually not necessary though)
Directions:
Open up \\btp.local\Shared\Production\Periodicals\BiS\Imposition\2Up BiS 11x17.indd
Relink the pages to the current issue that is being printed
(check the job queue / production manager / Job Ticket for correct month and quantity
Note: the two BiS instances sheet should be kept head to head to avoid areas of heavy black toner near the edge of the sheet. (4.16.2021—I don’t think this applies to our current printers, but since it’s set up, and works fine, I haven’t changed it)
Export as pdf to the production folders here: X:\Production\Periodicals\BiS\\\
Follow naming convention. Like: BS2021-08-August-Final-2UP.pdf
Open the new final pdfs and print them on 11x17 on 20lb bond (or other paper needing to be used up).
Produce a proof first of all four, then print once approved.
I often just use the book printer settings (for the printer you’re going to use), and turn off the front and back cover.

9x12 & 6x9 Envelopes

Advertising, Catalog and TC envelopes
Printer—Bizhub 6120 works well.
Use Tray 4 (Is the straightest possible paper path)
Set Lead Edge to 1 (Lowest)
Set Side Air Assist to 0 (Off)
keep flap down and to the left (underneath)
Print face up (Makes sure that the paper doesn’t get duplexed in the machine.)
Print order = face up, last number printed first, (n-1)

Let's Sing About Jesus—HymnBook
4 Cover Files—Printed on a Fusion Soft Polyester 12x18, 7.5mil, 220gsm
Full Bleed Books - ie. God’s Wonderful Stories Vol. 4
In order to get the pages to have a full bleed on facing pages:
right click (in indesign) the list of pages,
click allow pages to shuffle. (you may need to select all/desired pages)
Drag each page that you want to be full bleed out about 1/8th of an inch and you should see that it has a bracket on it. You should see that it has staggered the pages and that they’re not exactly facing pages anymore. Also make sure to have the center bleed set up correctly. .125”
Weekly Planner (IWP)
This can be nasty, but the most recent iteration, it went smoothly. The biggest problem is the color spaces. Each layer should have about 52-53 color imprints. The color separations should be viewed in acrobat after the files have been exported to pdf, to verify that the colors / grayscale are accurate.
Please review the manual here: X:\People\Chris Buchanan\Manuals\IWP—Inspirational Weekly Planner.rtf
We See Jesus—5.5" x 4" booklet
Note as of 4/16/2021: I’m not sure if these instructions are still any good ...
Dimensions that include bleeds: 5.75x4.25 inches.
Bodies:
Put bodies into cutter with the spines out.
Cut at 11.75 & then at 6". This should take off a 1/8" bleed from the spine of both books.
Rotate 90 degrees and cut at 9".
Combine stacks and cut at 11.75
Rotate 180 degrees and cut at 11.5
Covers:
Laminate
Cut to 9" & Crease
Binding:
Bind 2up
Trimming:
