There are 31 chapters in the book of Proverbs. Someone has observed that it would be good to read one chapter for each day of the month in order to have God’s wisdom for our lives!
In chapter 1 we were told that “simple ones,” “scorners” and “fools” reject wisdom while sinners try to “entice” (tempt) young people to follow them. As we go through the wonderful chapters of this book, we also find out about a “strange woman” and an “evil man.” The “strange woman” is one who seeks to destroy the souls of those who make friends with her, while the “evil man” is motivated by pride and his ways are crooked.
Proverbs teaches us that the “strange woman” is very dangerous, for she looks very nice on the outside, but those who follow her find the end of their path is death. Another woman - “wisdom” - is repeatedly presented to the reader. If one follows her and her ways, the result is life and joy and blessing. Those who read this book are constantly encouraged to diligently seek for wisdom.
