Though it seems that the Proverbs of Solomon were only written by him, the last two chapters are written by two men named Agur (chapter 30) and Lemuel (chapter 31). The very last chapter is especially striking, for in these words of Lemuel (written through divine inspiration of God) we find recorded the wisdom that his mother gave to him.
How wonderful to see that Proverbs closes with the wisdom of a mother passed on to the son she loves and that this wisdom concerns the characteristics of a virtuous woman. Perhaps Lemuel’s mother desired that her son would find such a virtuous woman as she described for his wife.
The book of Proverbs began with the fear of the Lord being the beginning of wisdom, and it ends with the statement that “a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.” How important that we learn in our journey through the Bible the blessings that will be ours if we walk in the fear of the Lord.
Let’s stop and rest in our journey while you find these verses.
