Time, like the steadiest stream of water, is rolling along at a constant pace. It is carrying us to the moment when each of us will stand before God and give an account of our life to Him.
We can no more escape having our life evaluated by God than we can somehow escape being carried along by the stream of time. The stream of time is relentless. You can’t stand on the banks and idly watch it flow by. You can only float on its current and let it carry you along, every second drawing you nearer and nearer to the time when we must leave this life and stand before God. “We must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad” (2 Corinthians 5:10).
Are you ready to give an account of your life to God? Before you answer, consider that God is holy, that is, He loves righteousness and hates sin. Every sin ever committed in the universe will receive its just punishment. People may escape justice in this life for their misdeeds, but not when they meet God. God will see to it that everyone receives his just due. This is why, before we leave this life, it is so important to come to the Lord Jesus Christ. Through the death of God’s dear Son on the cross, sinners may obtain the forgiveness of sins. “Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins” (Acts 13:3838Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins: (Acts 13:38)). Only by believing in the Lord Jesus Christ can any of us have our sins forgiven so we may enter into heaven.
Some people might think that the passage of time can erode our sins away. But don’t believe this. The stream of time is insufficient to accomplish this. The sins we have committed may fade in our memories, but they will never fade in God’s memory. “God require[s] that which is past” (Ecclesiastes 3:1515That which hath been is now; and that which is to be hath already been; and God requireth that which is past. (Ecclesiastes 3:15)).
Where I live, rivers formed by melting glaciers cut away steep sand cliffs called “high banks.” The rivers carried away billions of tons of sand and pebbles over thousands of years to create these high banks. But a million years is insufficient to weather away the tiniest bit of guilt from our souls. After a sin is committed, the ugly stain of sin will remain on our souls. Only one thing in the universe has the power to take away those sins and that is the blood of Christ. Only the blood of Christ can wash sinners clean and make them ready to enter into heaven. Have you come to Christ and know that your sins are forgiven?
Won’t you bow your heart before Him and receive Him as your Savior? Time is carrying us along like a rushing river. What we do with the Lord Jesus in our short life will make all the difference in our eternal destiny. Oh, be wise and come to Christ before it is forever too late!
