These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. (Acts 17:11)
[The Bereans] . . . searched the Scriptures daily.

A new preacher had come to town. His name was Paul. He was teaching some new doctrines that maybe had not been heard before. The Bereans wanted to make sure that, before they followed the teachings of Paul, he was teaching what was of God. So they searched the Scriptures every day and compared what Paul taught to what the Old Testament teachers taught, and what those who had been with Jesus during His ministry taught. It all fit together. But Paul was an apostle. He had to be right - didn’t he? The Bereans wanted to make sure he was a true follower of the Lord and not just out to get a following for himself. Let’s be equally careful.
