For I know that in me  .  .  .  dwelleth no good thing.
Paul recognized that he was his own worst enemy, as the expression is. We must all come to that same realization. In ourselves is nothing good. In myself I am sinful and nothing I do is for God and His glory. On the other hand, when I accept Jesus as my Lord and Savior, I now have a nature that is directly from God, one in which there is no sin. As a son of God I am perfect, but as a natural man I have no good in me. Do you see why we struggle in our Christian lives? It’s the old nature against the new all the time. Let’s make sure that our old nature is kept in the place of death and that the new one is allowed to operate.
