An important animal among Hebrews, and a main source of wealth
Shepherd’s occupation highly respectable (Gen. 4:22And she again bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground. Sheep and shepherd employed much figuratively (2 Chron. 18:1616Then he said, I did see all Israel scattered upon the mountains, as sheep that have no shepherd: and the Lord said, These have no master; let them return therefore every man to his house in peace.
