Whoso confesseth and forsaketh [his sins] shall have mercy.
There is a double responsibility for a person who sins if he is to have God’s mercy. First, you need to confess your sin. The Lord wants to hear “I have sinned” from your lips. Second, turn away from the path that got you into the sin in the first place. We must fulfill our part if we want God to fulfill His. Forsaking sin shows real repentance.
