(bind). Distance from tip of thumb to that of little finger, when stretched apart; about nine inches. Also any small interval of space or time (1 Sam. 17:4⁴And there went out a champion out of the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span. (1 Samuel 17:4); Isa. 40:12¹²Who hath measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and meted out heaven with the span, and comprehended the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance? (Isaiah 40:12); Lam. 2:20²⁰Behold, O Lord, and consider to whom thou hast done this. Shall the women eat their fruit, and children of a span long? shall the priest and the prophet be slain in the sanctuary of the Lord? (Lamentations 2:20)).
