Just a word about that awful delusion of the Devil that is so prevalent now. Those who have lost their loved ones on the battlefield are told that they can hold converse with them in the spirit world. Are such things possible? According to the Word of God—NO.
Read Rev. 1, last clause of eighteenth verse. The Lord Jesus says: “I have the keys of Hades (the place of departed spirits) and of death.” Therefore, the Lord Jesus Christ is the only one who has power to release these spirits. We know the spirits of departed saints, that is, believers on the Lord Jesus, are “with Christ,” and “present with the Lord” (Phil. 1:2323For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better: (Philippians 1:23).). Is it at all likely that the Lord Jesus would allow them to come back at the command of charlatans and table-turners?
The spirits of those who die rejecting Christ are “in prison,” the place of departed spirits, and can never be called out of prison at the desire of those on earth.
The keys in the possession of the Lord Jesus—the “Keys of Hades and of death”— will be used on two occasions:
There is not in the whole of the New Testament a single verse to show that any intercourse is possible between the inhabitants of this world and those who have passed away.
Have the “Spiritists” communication with unseen spirits? Yes, doubtless. Who are they? They are evil spirits or demons who personate the dead. So when you attend these “seances,” you are in the presence of demons and holding converse with them.
