A Message From God: 1917
Just a word about that awful delusion of the Devil that is so prevalent now. Those who have lost their loved ones on the battlefield are told that they can hold converse with them in the spirit world. Are such things possible? According to the Word of God—
NO
.
Read Rev. 1, last clause of eighteenth verse. The Lord Jesus says: “I have the keys of Hades (the place of departed spirits) and of death.” Therefore, the Lord Jesus Christ is the only one who has power to release these spirits. We know the spirits of departed saints, that is, believers on the Lord Jesus, are “with Christ,” and “present with the Lord” (
Phil. 1:23
23
For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better: (Philippians 1:23)
.). Is it at all likely that the Lord Jesus would allow them to come back at the command of charlatans and table-turners?
The spirits of those who die rejecting Christ are “in prison,” the place of departed spirits, and can never be called out of prison at the desire of those on earth.
The
keys
in the possession of the Lord Jesus—the “Keys of Hades and of death”— will be used on two occasions:
1. At the first resurrection—the resurrection of the just (
1 Thess. 4:13-18
13
But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.
14
For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
15
For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
16
For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
17
Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
18
Wherefore comfort one another with these words. (1 Thessalonians 4:13‑18)
.).
2. At the judgment of the Great White Throne (
Rev. 20:11-15
11
And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.
12
And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
13
And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
14
And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
15
And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. (Revelation 20:11‑15)
.).
There is not in the whole of the New Testament a single verse to show that any intercourse is possible between the inhabitants of this world and those who have passed away.
Have the “Spiritists” communication with unseen spirits? Yes, doubtless. Who are they? They are evil spirits or demons who personate the dead. So when you attend these “seances,” you are in the presence of demons and holding converse with them.
