How Are We to Treat Our Helpmates?
YP Address—C. Little
DISCLAIMER: The following has been auto-transcribed. We hope it will help you to find the section of this audio file you are looking for.
The Lord Jesus was real. He shed his precious blood. He suffered in order that you might be brought into blessing.
I marvel at this.
To think that there are those.
Among the young that lived together a while. And they say, well, I don't love you anymore. And so they just separate without any thought of the fact that they may come under the judgment of God for this.
You know, we're told over while we were in the 4th chapter that the time has come. The judgment must begin at the House of God. Now God is not going to pass by.
This disobedience.
That doesn't mean you're going to be brought under judicial judgment, but God has a way of dealing with these matters.
But we have the word of God, and so in this chapter, in this 4th chapter.
The happiness comes from bowing to this book, bowing to the word of God, acknowledging the relationships that God has given us. The family relationship is of God. And so there's so much in this chapter, in this third chapter, happiness.
It's notice it says concerning the the the wife and the husband. And also you may have you may have the wife may have a husband who is not saved.
Or the husband may have a wife who isn't saved.
What is? What is the path? What is the thought of that? Why? What are we to do? Oh, we're to live Christ. And as it says that they may, if there are, if there are those that are obey not the word, they may be won by the good conversation of the wife or the husband. Vice versa.
Yet the wife seeks to please the Lord. Or if the husband does, the other mate may see this. I know of such a case.
Personally, it took 20 years, but all it came to pass because this deer lady, this dear sister, she listened to the word of God, she prayed about it, and the Lord answered her prayers. But it took 20 years to do it.
Solemn, isn't it? But is God's word true? You know it's true. You know that what God says is true.
And whatever is said is going to come to pass, if it hasn't already. Well, as it says here.
Verse 7 Your husbands dwell with him according to knowledge, giving honor unto the wife as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers be not hindered heirs together of the grace of life.
They're going to be going to be in each in that glory with the Lord Jesus.
But the solemn thing is this that.
Your wife won't be your wife in heaven. Your husband won't be your husband in heaven.
When I first heard that, I was.
They neither marry nor are given in marriage. There is going to be a glorious wedding there.
But we're going to be the bride of Christ.
Now I don't understand all this.
I can't enter into it and so I can't tell you much more about it.
But how true that is. So it's been before me how we are we now.
To treat that mate, young person, young man, young woman, older one too. How are we to treat our mates?
The one to whom we've been married.
Were to give the mall the affection and love that's possible to give them because you're not going to have them long.
The Lord's coming is near.
And when he comes, that relationship is done.
Well, and notice how the key here is heirs together of the grace of life. That's why you're here only.
But then he goes on and says, not rendering no verse 8. Finally, be all of one mind, having compassion one of another. Love is brethren. Be pitiful, be courteous, not rendering evil for evil, not retorting or railing for railing, but contrary wise blessing. Knowing that ye are there thereunto called that you should inherit a blessing.
Oh God isn't God is not going to give us these things and take them away from us. He wants us to enjoy them. And that's why we have an epistle like this that we might go through this world having set aside the things that would hinder us individually, then exercising that which is necessary to us as husband and wife, relationship, family, relationship, if you will, children, and so on. Finally be all of one mind.
00:05:16
And Annie Guzan verse 10 for he that will love life.
And see good days again. This refers to our pathway. Now, now, right now, I think our dear brother yesterday and leaning before us the Lord Jesus path and how it marks us out a path now while we're here. This is what brought these things before me.
That it's now he that will love life and see good days. Let him refrain his tongue from evil in his lips, that they speak no guile. Let him eschew or avoid evil and do good. Let him seek peace and pursue it.
For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers.
But the face of the Lord is against them that do evil and so on. And then notice verse 15 but sanctifying. Well, 14 says, But if you suffer for righteousness sake, happy are you, and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled, but sanctify the Lord God in your hearts.
And be ready always to give an answer to every man that asked you, a reason of the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear, having a good conscience. Now, don't tell me you can have a good conscience if you're living, if you're living in a discarded spirit in a home you can't. It bothers A bothersome thing. I speak through those who know the Lord here.
There's.
There's trials, there's difficulties. But it says sanctify the Lord God in your hearts and be ready always to give.
An answer and I wondered about this. First if what does it mean? Well, I really believe it means.
Giving God his true character in my heart, what is God's character? Love. Compassion. Grace. Mercy.
This is what it is giving this place in my heart.
Sanctify or set the Lord Jesus or set the Lord the Lord God in your hearts and be ready always to give an answer. Well, if I don't, if I'm not, if I'm not enjoying the Lord myself, there's no way that I can answer anyone else. Well, there's much in this chapter again concerning the path of obedience and what it is. Happiness is only come through the path of obedience. Then in the 4th chapter you have.
You have something of the flesh brought in there, and as the flesh suffers.
The Spirit rejoices.
You know, there are certain things that I perhaps have habits. Things come in, I have habits. And in order to enjoy the Lord, I cut those habits off, drop them off that they might. I judge them and get rid of them.
Well, it's the only way of happiness.
Is to set these things aside.
And if you're not a child of God, you can never set them aside. It's impossible. But you do have the power of God in order to do that. That's why we're told in the opening we're redeemed with the precious blood of Christ. And there is that possibility, there is the way in which we can do that. But here it's I think the flash is brought before us. And I think in three different ways I I just submit this. It says for as much then as Christ has suffered for us in the flesh.
What kind of flesh did he have? Holy flesh? The Lord Jesus Christ.
Was a holy, spotless man in this world.
Christ has suffered for us in the flesh.
Arm yourselves with the same mind.
And remember what He said. Be holy, for I am holy. I'm yourselves of the same mind. Then He goes on, and he says, For he that has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin. Well, here's sinful flesh.
He that has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, that is, sin delights.
The flesh likes to go on in its sin. Well, if I judge that and set it aside.
Then the flesh suffers, suffers, but the spirit rejoices, the spirit rejoices.
00:10:00
And then he goes on, and he says that he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.
While there's natural flesh, that is nature itself. So he's not going to live the same as he did in the past. There's a change comes not going to live the rest of his time here just in the flesh, to the lusts of men, but to the will of God. And this is His desire for us. This is what He wants for you and for me while we're here in the past. And then He goes on with what it what this flesh is. For the time past of our life will may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, and when we walked in, lasciviousness.
Lost successive wine, revelings, banquetings, and so on. All these things, but then they're going to have something else.
They're going to say, well, you used to do this, what happened to you? Wherein they think it's strange that you run not with them to the same excess of riot speaking evil of you.
Evil of you, well dear young people that also comes into view if you seek to please the Lord in your pathway.
And set aside the thing that is displeasing to him, that in order to grow and to cause.
The Spirit to rejoice. You'll find opposition to this.
Somebody is going to oppose it. They're going to say, well, you used to do that, but you don't do it anymore. Well, what's happened? Well, this is suffering. Again, for righteousness sake we set it aside. But remember, in the end that man is going to give account to him that is ready to judge the living and the dead and so on down in this chapter, but going further as it says if.
Verse.
Seven But the end of all things is at hand. Be therefore sober and watch unto prayer. The end of all things is at hand. It's right is at hand at this very moment. The Lord could come at any moment and take us home to glory. So the end of all things is at hand Now Peter brings this out. He says, Be therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.
Soberness and prayer, that is the word of God. As I pick it up and read it, it sobers me. It gives me to see how far short I am. And I need to ask the Lord for grace to go on with Him. And so the whole pathway is here as it says, use, and above all things have fervent charity or love among yourselves, for charity shall cover the multitude of sins, charity or love among yourselves.
You know, love is the bond, isn't it? Love is the bond, the love. It was the love of God that sent his Son. It was the love of the Lord Jesus that took him all the way to the cross. It is his love that bears with us every step of our journey. And it says here, now we have the privilege in the past of displaying that love or letting it flow out to others around us. Oh, and this is a secret of the the, the spirit rejoicing in the soul.
I'm sure you've experienced this in such a some degree. If there's any measure of desire to please God in your pathway, there's a rejoicing in your spirit. Rejoicing that you have the privilege in a world as opposed to God in all his ways of pleasing him, of making letting others know that you belong to Christ. What a privilege this is, dear young people and.
Then it says here.
Use hospitality one to another.
Hospitality, it says, as every man hath received the gift so minister the same to one another. As good stewards of the manifold grace of God, you notice all through here and throughout the speaks of the grace of God, His love for us where he's brought us. And this is necessary to be shown out in our lives down here now.
While we wait his return all through this epistle.
If then notice verse, If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God.
If any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth.
That God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ.
To whom be praised and dominion forever and ever. Amen. So we any man speak, let him speak as of the oracles of God, as of the ability which God-given. And God will give ability. If there is the setting aside of the flesh, and the entertaining and rejoicing in the Spirit, God will give that ability.
00:15:21
And what a joy it is, what a joy to know that in this path of of the suffering and sickness and sorrow and misunderstandings that there is joy, that the child of God can still look up and rejoice, rejoice in that path. But then he goes on here, and he says concerning again, the flesh has to suffer in order for the Spirit to rejoice.
But it says that beloved verse 12.
Think it not strange concerning the fiery trial, which is to try you as though some strange thing happened to you.
But rejoice, rejoice.
All they're going to be trials. You know the path I think our brother mentioned yesterday. We're not standing here telling you.
That the path of a child had gone through this world was an easy path. And you know there are no problems. You know when I was first saved, I thought, now I had so many problems before I was saved. And I thought, now that I'm saved, everything is just one grand sunshine. No problems, no storms, no trouble, no difficulties. But I found out different than that.
You know, there's a time of blessing, dear young people, and there's a time of testing. God is going to test you, everyone, Everyone in this room have had a test or will have a test.
You know, but The thing is.
Is it?
Is are we going to allow the flesh to keep us from rejoicing?
If we don't set it aside, if we don't do this, then we're going to be found.
In a miserable condition, we're going to be not enjoying the Lord, but he wants us to enjoy this.
He wants us but rejoice in as much as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings, that when his glory shall be revealed, he may be glad with exceeding joy. Oh, it's exceeding joy to think.
Of the the glory before us to be in the presence of the Lord Jesus, to look in his face, to see that one who suffered for me suffered for you to think of that when he looks into your face.
When I look into his, what is he going to say? Well, what is he going to say? What are you going to say? Oh, we're only going to rejoice. He's not going to bring up all those things. He's not going to tell you all your failures. Oh no, the judgment seat of Christ is there. They'll all be on display, but not any crossword will ever pass his lips. Oh, I think this is very precious. Beloved, beloved, he said.
He's speaking to the children of God. He's speaking to you, young people. He's speaking to me. Each one of us, beloved, rejoice.
Beloved, think it not strange, but rejoice in as much as you are partakers of Christ's sufferings. This is his suffering for righteousness sake.
You know, again, we can't go through his suffering on the cross. That was for himself, that was alone, alone. He did that work. And it says if you be reproached for the name of Christ.
Happy are you for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you. Now there's there is a line of subject here we could could have gone into too the fact again of Christ suffering for righteousness sake, and Christ suffering for your sins and mine on the cross. And that's another subject in itself. But it says here, if we be reproached many times, you know the suffering comes because we say, I know it weighs with me my own experience.
Was. Well, they'd say, well we're going to have a we're going to have a party and we want you to come to this party. It's, you know one of the world's parties where I worked they always had parties. They were always having some get togethers. Well, I went before I was saved and after I was saved, while I was I was on a committee and then after I was saved I didn't want to go any longer. And so I I just instead of saying I I I didn't go because I belong to Christ. I said well.
I don't do those things anymore. So I I don't think I'll be able to go. Well, they laugh at you, but that's just suffering for righteousness sake. You know, I was going to, I want to do the right thing. You'll find that many of us, many of you young people perhaps you say, well I I don't do those things anymore. You may suffer for righteousness sake, but all when we bring the name of Christ in. When I got to the point in my life that I could say I can't go with you because I belong to Christ, then notice the language.
00:20:18
If he be reporting, if he be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye For the Spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you. Oh, that's far in excess of anything else, the spirit of glory. Glory is excellence in manifestation. It rests upon you, he says.
The Spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you. On their part he is evil spoken of.
But on your part, he's glorified. At this point. I'd like to say this to encourage any young one here if you, if you do, speak to a soul and they.
They begin to reject it and turn it aside and make mud of it, if you will.
Don't worry about that. It says on their part he is evil spoken of. Even though you may not see success on your part, He is glorified. The Lord is glorified if you speak to a soul about him, even though they may not, they may reject it. They may even some. I had a man even cursed to me about it, but this verse came to me on their part.
He was evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified. Just the fact that you name the Lord Jesus that you bring up that precious name brings glory to God.
And then I just, I see time is going, just going over to the fifth chapter we have here, then the end of the path.
As we were saying, we have that we have salvation, we have the end of the path. And isn't it lovely that God has given us in between these chapters, one and five instructions for us in different phases of our lives? But here in chapter 5 it says.
Now that comes to older ones, it comes to younger ones. We have a little different group here.
Elders, which are among you, verse one I exhort, who also am an elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, in a particular glory that shall be reviewed.
The flock of God. Well, here's a word for those of us that are older, feed the flock of God. I really mean. I really think that elders here mean just mean older ones, older ones that have gone on. We have that responsibility to feed the young. We have the responsibility to bring Christ before you. But this isn't all you have a responsibility too. And now going down feed the flock of God and so on. Neither is being Lords over God's herodies. And so we find the Chief Shepherd brought in here again.
But notice verse 5. Likewise ye younger submit yourselves unto the elder.
You like that?
You know, some young people don't like, they didn't like this. They was talking to a young brother one time and I said, you know, the Bible says younger, the younger. Submit yourselves unto the elder.
And.
They sometimes it's not too easy. You know there's this is a day of independence and people like to say, well, I'm doing my own thing, I'm, I'm not going to submit to anyone. But I said now I won't stop at that point in the verse. I want to read you the rest of the verse. So I said I have a responsibility too.
Likewise you younger submit yourselves unto the elder, Ye all of you be subject 1 to another.
I said there's where I come in. All of you be subject 1 to another. Subjection is not an easy thing. We don't like this. You don't like it as a young person. And sometimes some of us Gray heads doesn't want. We don't like it either, because we have to submit to something that we say, Well, we know that and we've got a bow to it. Well, these are good instructions for us because he's bringing us here to the end and then brings that up to the end of the path, for God resisteth the proud, and so on.
But notice verse 7 casting all your care upon him, For he careth for you all of your care. Young, old, middle-aged woman, man, wife, elder, son, boy, girl, whoever.
Cast all your care upon him, for he careth for you. He cares for each one of you.
In the very place you are, in the path that you're in, and at the age you are at this very moment, he cares for you, and he wants you to cast all your care upon him. Be sober. Be vigilant, because your adversary, the devil, is a roaring lion, walks about seeking who may be devour, and you know, and he does. Satan doesn't give up.
00:25:15
He's working with many of us for many years. But notice verse 9 whom resist steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. I just want to make comment about that early the opening of that for whom resist steadfast in the faith. Now you'll never be able to stand against Satan in your own strength. You won't be able to pitch your mind against him your wisdom. The only way that you can face up to the enemy is on the principle of faith. Bring God in.
Faith brings God in.
And a good conscience keeps the enemy out.
Bring God in faith brings God in, and that's the only way that you will ever defeat the enemy and as he says, but the God of all grace in verse 10.
Who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus? After that ye have suffered a while, Make you perfect, establish, strengthen, settle you. We're between the sufferings and the glory. Here tells us we're between the sufferings and the glory.
And the glory could take place at any moment. Well, he wants us to be mindful of this.
That the only way we can face the enemy is on the principle of faith, bringing God in. And then he says, the God of all, grace. After that you have suffered a while. He's going to make you perfect, strike, establish, strengthen, settle you. Well, dear young people, I just submit these things. You can read this book. You have the privilege. Probably find more in it than I did. But isn't it lovely to know that God has given us his word and it's full and it's complete?
There is nothing lacking. The word of God is filled with truth concerning the blessed Lord Jesus Christ who died, and is filled also with good instructions for us. He gives us good counsel, but we should have good ears to listen and good hearts to receive it. Well, I was just thinking.
Refuse Not Him that Speaketh from Heaven

A man on the street 50 years later.
Told me.
That the theme song of the 1914 Kentucky Gospel Meetings.
Was oh blessed gospel sound.
We've heard about the Gospel bells in the prayer room.
That's the same message the gospel bells, the gospel sound.
And you will find this numbered.
15.
On the third page.
Oh blessed Gospel sound.
Here there is no.
All around, yes, there is room glory. You'll be made from you.
Not all, I think is not here will always lay down.
Where is thou conflict meaning?
For the person.
You will be. Yeah, there is a little.
Salvation.
Dead run. You will pass away.
Then grace no more else say yes there is room.
Shall we pray together?
For you.
Who have put on the Newman?
Which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
You are greeted with these words.
Grace and peace be multiplied unto you.
Through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.
We as brethren stand in that relationship together.
Our sins being forgiven, having become the children of God through faith in Christ.
We are ready for heaven.
And it is all right if we are left here yet a little toil.
I greet you in the name of Christ, in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.
For you who do not have this knowledge of God and of Jesus.
Our Lord within your soul.
00:05:00
I greet you.
In Adam.
For you have the same nature.
In Adam, that is mine.
It may be stronger in you.
For their searches of nature.
In younger years.
Perhaps it's weaker when you're 80.
But I've got it.
And you will allow me to claim kin with you in Adam.
But that doesn't last. We'll have to leave someday.
Man is not constituted to live forever on the earth because sin came in and spoiled it all.
But there's something richer and better.
Now every.
Jail.
All hospitals.
And each Funeral Home.
Testifies to the fact that sin has wrought havoc in this world.
You may not.
Think of being in jail. You could be.
Because you have a sinful nature if it came out in practice.
You would be arrested and taken into custody and incarcerated, put into.
Someday you'll have an ailment and you'll be going in the ambulance to the hospital.
And the doctor with his doses and the nurses with their needles, will be working on you to bring back restoration of life.
Which is a good thing.
We're thankful for it in the skills that are available for our blessing.
In that way, since we're sharing the ruin of the race.
And someday.
Stay here long enough.
The phone will ring.
And a black vehicle will come.
And you'll be taken away to the Undertaker.
The body is dead. The body without the spirit is dead.
You can't leave it in the house, You've got to arrange for a barrel.
The soul is the most important thing.
To lose your wealth as much.
To lose your health is more to lose your soul is such a loss that none can restore.
All of you young people look so nice.
You must be Christians.
But if I had a handful of cards 3 by 5.
And stintled on these cards were two words, some of them St.
And other cards Sinner.
And coming around, which would be yours?
You have sinned too.
Pleasure loving celebrity.
A beautiful woman.
Who was bent on having the pleasures of sin for a season?
Was disturbed by a heavy dream.
She admired that beautiful gown so much.
That in her sleep she dreamed about it.
And she saw that gown with cards pinned all over from the top to the bottom.
Which was a registry of the sins that she had committed.
00:10:04
Date and place and name.
Our sins are many.
Simon spoke to the Lord and said.
Persons or many.
Yours are too. We don't count all of our sins.
And you may not have that beautiful gown to wear, but you have some nice clothes.
What about those shoes you were wearing? They took you to the wrong place.
What about that first you raised when mom didn't buy the right dress?
This is a resistance.
To the order of God.
Those are sins.
What about the bad words you said?
At the age of 1070 years ago, my confession was made of Christ.
It's not regrettable. It's wonderful.
But there was a time when bad words came out and there was uneasiness.
But the word gave me to know that my history ended in Adam at the cross.
Not only had Christ died for my sins.
But my old man was crucified with him.
We're in the world where man seeks pleasure.
Fun world 2 words for Florida, sun and fun.
You won't.
Raising the objection to my Corning of those two words, will you?
Because it's true. You go to Florida to get the sun.
And so many come to Florida to have fun.
And that extends the world over Kentucky, too, because we've seen income short of the glory of God in Kentucky.
It's not a paradise. We just don't like the Garden of Eden.
There's where men field the woman failed. But oh, a rich, wonderful promise came out of that failure.
Because the seed of the woman would bruise the serpent's head, although the serpent would bruise his heel.
And we come to the time.
When it's recorded in the word, thou shalt call his name Jesus.
Savior.
It means.
For he would save his people from their sins.
And also they shall call his name Emmanuel.
Which being interpreted.
Is God with us?
He's been here.
You should be glad that you are here tonight under the sound of the wonderful message that God has given to us.
O blessed sound.
Now.
We are unable to do anything about the condition that we are in.
Some go about to establish their own righteousness.
But that's a vain thing.
Not by works of righteousness, which we have done, but according to His mercy has saved us.
But there's a good report. It didn't come from the newspaper.
Where sin abounded, grace did much more abound.
Oh, thank God for his abounding grace.
Made known to us in the gift, that of that holy child.
00:15:00
In Matthew's Gospel we have three times go ye and learn what that meaneth.
I will have mercy.
And not sacrifice.
Animals sacrifices serve their purpose for a time.
But Christ had come.
And since it's three times in Matthew, we'll say it twice more.
Go ye and learn what that meaneth. I will have mercy and not sacrifice.
God doesn't want your religion.
He says young men give me thine heart, young lady, too.
Go ye, and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy.
And not sacrifice.
Let's go back a little.
Genesis.
1.
Verse 8.
Here we have the record of creation.
And at the end of each day's work, we have a pronouncement that it's good.
Except in this verse.
And God called the firmament heaven.
In the evening and the morning.
Were the second day.
There's no mission. He didn't call it good.
It's not God's desire that heaven and earth should be divided or separated.
And the firmament, the expanse of atmosphere.
Is spoken of as the realm.
Of the Prince of the air, the devil.
This record of creation in Genesis is solid.
The world's were framed by the word of God.
We need not reason about it.
It's true.
And should never be.
Left out.
Hold it firmly.
And the virgin birth is necessary.
Those two ordinary, ordinary men that were dying on the cross served no purpose.
Their blood wouldn't cleanse away sins for others. They were paying the penalty of what they had done.
But only the precious blood of Christ.
Could take away sins.
So the virgin birth is an absolute necessity.
I believe it. I preach it.
You also believe it too.
Where sin abounded, grace did much more abound.
One of the purposes of our blessed Lord.
Was referred to and perhaps.
The principle one in the chapter that we were considering.
He also himself likewise took part of the same.
Flesh he took part of.
That through death.
He might destroy him That had the power of death. That is the devil.
This tells us about a victory that Christ has won for you.
And we could be more than victors because we didn't fight the battle.
He did the work of redemption and he shares it with us.
00:20:02
More than conquerors through him that loved us.
Now the devil is still active.
He's not really destroyed, but his power is broken.
He was defeated at the cross.
And the believer today.
Can lie down in peace.
On his pillow and rest in the Lord being confident if he should be taken away in the night time.
He would be absent from the body present with the Lord.
And in the same epistle.
Chapter 10 with two verses to which you need nor turn unless you wish.
12 But this man.
His reference made to all those animal sacrifices that had been done before, but this man.
After he had offered one sacrifice for sins, forever sat down on the right hand of God that brings before the finished work of Christ.
Work is done, is finished, is complete. It's all sufficient.
He was delivered for our offenses. He was raised again for our justification.
He walked about. He walked about 40 days, giving infallible proofs of his resurrection.
And one day led his disciples out to Bethany, lifted up his hands and left them in blessing.
And went through the clouds. He's up there for us.
For by one offering yet perfected forever.
Them that are sanctified.
All the perfect work of Christ. But think of the cost.
Oh Lord, what a load was lying to bear alone in that dark hour.
Our sins and all of their terror there.
God's wrath and Satan's power.
But he bore it all. He cried with a loud voice at the end.
And gave up the ghosts.
And after seeing it's finished, he said. Father.
Into thy hands I commit to my spirit.
Now we've had something about your condition at a center.
This has got rollers on.
Excuse me for a habit of leaning.
But that habit is all right if you lean on the Lord.
We've spoken about man's state, the awful condition of this world.
And our need Are you a Sinner or a St.
Have you come to Jesus?
That woman from the street came into Simon's house. He's a Pharisee. He condemned her.
But sheep?
Broader tears and washed the feet of the Savior.
She brought that box of costly ointment and anointed him.
And she was responding.
But Jesus hadn't said to her yet.
Thy sins of her given.
Maybe you are responding.
You're going along nicely with all these.
Believers here.
That are having such a happy time together.
But as Jesus said to you, have you been in His presence about your sins?
He said to me, thy sins are forgiven.
Then he said, go in peace.
Thy face.
As say the.
Cornelius was moving rightly in the 10th of Acts devout man.
Praying with his household, giving alms to the people.
00:25:01
But he was instructed to send a joppa and to get Peter to come and tell him words whereby he would be saved.
And he heard those words.
He believed them.
And the Spirit of God acted in blessing.
And they came into the good of the fellowship of the Spirit that we have from above.
The gift of the Holy Spirit.
There are two powers that work in this world.
There is the work of the enemy of our souls that would have you neglect so great salvation.
And there is the work of the Spirit of God.
That would woo you.
And I would urge you.
That would press upon you the importance.
Of believing in Jesus.
As your own personal savior.
Now we'll turn to Romans 1.
Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ.
Call to be an apostle or an apostle by calling.
Separated under the gospel of God.
God has a message for you.
To God, we are responsible because he made us.
In him we live and move and have our being.
He gave us our place here on this earth.
That part of the world that has the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.
You are so favored, my young friend and Adam.
Because your lot is in this land.
That has been advanced in the best civilization that the world has ever known.
You're not in the dark part of the Earth.
Where people are steeped in idolatry.
But.
You are in danger here.
Just as well.
Because there's so much religion without reality.
You need to have.
A. Dealing with the Lord.
You need to have repentance toward God.
And faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
The Gospel of God.
Oh, this is a message from heaven.
Nothing like this comes out of Washington, DC.
It didn't originate in London.
It didn't even come from Jerusalem.
He came from heaven.
Heaven is interested in you.
You didn't. You didn't say it was good for you to be left here on the earth. He wants you in heaven.
And this was promised of four in the prophets.
In the Holy Scriptures, this message of God's love to man.
We find it all the way through. Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures.
According to the scriptures means that you find it.
In Exodus 12.
In Genesis 3.
In Genesis 22 in Isaiah 53.
You find it in that scarlet cord that hung from the window of rehab to harlot.
00:30:03
Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures. He was buried and he rose again the 3rd day according to the scriptures.
And the message is concerning his Son Christ our Lord.
You could have no better message.
For it is linked with Christ our Lord.
Which was made of the seed of David.
According to the flesh.
And his lineages traced in that seed of David.
You find it in the first chapter of Matthew.
And we could insert a digression at this point.
You heard about the baby with a baboon heart.
1St Corinthians 1539 All flesh is not the same flesh.
There is one kind of flesh of men.
Another kind of beasts.
And other fishes.
Another of birds.
Now some minor part might work.
In the human being.
But you can't expect.
A blend of animal flesh with human flesh.
Old brother Otto and the mountains of North Carolina said to me one day.
At a burial.
When a pet job dies, we bear it and expect nothing.
When we come to laying away the remains.
Of a loved one, he said.
As Paul says, it is sown.
When you sow something, you expect something in return.
All flesh is not the same flesh.
And this flesh that we are in.
Is subject to resurrection.
And our Lord has secured.
That favor for us?
For, it goes on to say.
Not only was the seed of was he the seed of David, according to the flesh.
But declared to be the Son of God with power.
Now this goes beyond Nathaniel's declaration of the fact that he's the son of God.
This was the proof.
Declared to be the Son of God, with power according to the Spirit of holiness.
By the resurrection from the dead.
What was the spirit of whole?
We don't have it except being born again.
He had it.
There was never a thought, nor a word, nor deed.
That was out of place in that blessed one.
There was not anything that the spirit of God could not fully sanction.
So he was a suitable sacrifice for sin.
And he's declared to be the Son of God, with power by resurrection from the dead.
And mind you.
He is able to raise others.
There is a Little Maid, 12 years old.
And he was besought, and he came, The lady was the woman got blessing as he came along.
But he went.
With three disciples, the Father and the Mother, he took her by the hand, and said may to rise.
00:35:03
He said give her something for nourishment.
In the city of Nain.
They were on the way out to the cemetery, but the man in the casket.
Who was the son of an only wizard?
The only son of a widow.
And.
The record suggests.
Homestead, Barry told me.
That evidently, Jesus had walked overnight.
In order to be in the city of Nain.
To arrest that funeral procession.
To the soaring mother, he said, Weep not.
Touching the.
That contain the body of her son.
Young men, I say unto thee, Arise.
She was given back.
He was given back to.
His mother.
And on another occasion Mary and Martha were weeping, and they were.
Puzzled as to why he had not come when they needed him, for Lazarus had died.
And coming they inform him that he's been dead 4 days already.
And the tomb can't be opened.
Jesus wept.
There as he surveyed the ruin that had come upon the human race through sin.
He felt it. He suffered. He wept.
Coming to the place where they had laid him.
He said Lazarus come forth.
He did.
But our Lord himself went into death.
He didn't reach out in that occasion to pull others back into this life.
In contemplation of that, he said.
I have power to lay it down. I have power to take it up again. This commandment have I received my father.
You know, he was speaking one day and he said destroy this temple and I'll raise it up in three days.
They told you sink and he was talking about that 46 year structure.
He was referring to his body. I'll raise it up.
In Romans 80s quickened by the spirit.
In Romans 6.
He's raised from the dead by the glory of the Father.
And what can be better proven than that when all the Trinity is involved?
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit operating in the resurrection of Christ.
He's risen. He's alive forevermore.
He became dead, but he lives and he has the keys of death.
And hell and death. He has control over all mankind.
Over death, the bodies taken and put away in the grave, Over the souls there in the unseen world He has power over the bodies and souls of all mankind.
Now we must come.
To a point.
A pressure point.
And for that procedure, would you turn with me to?
John 16.
John 16.
00:40:05
And in the verse seven I will send him unto you.
And when he's come.
He will reprove the world of sin.
And of righteousness.
And of judgment.
Of sin because they believed not on me. Of righteousness, because I go to my Father and you see me no more.
Of judgment, because the Prince of this world is judged.
He was rejected. He was cast out.
And that's the reason He sent the Holy Spirit. We know the Father sent the Holy Spirit too.
But the Holy Spirit was sent by the Son also.
And he was sent for the purpose of reproving the world of sin, because it had rejected him.
And you will find out that you are rejecting Christ too, if you don't believe.
There was an elderly sister in the nursing home and it's my privilege to visit her.
And when we were talking about the cross.
She volunteered with this information. I was there. I helped drive the nails into his hands. I have put him on the cross.
Never did one say that to me before.
But it was real to her.
And can we not say that we were there too?
As faith answers to face and water, so the heart of man to man.
If not, they are an actual person. Of course we weren't there an actual person.
But the same flesh was there.
Is in me today.
We rejected Christ. Oh, there were the few around the believed.
John stood close in.
But the disciples had pursued him and fled.
One had denied him, Another sold him.
Jesus bore.
No righteousness.
Because I go to the Father.
Oh, he had accomplished the work that he came to do.
He could go to the father now and they wouldn't see him anymore for a while.
He laid the basis for your blessing. He had done the work for your salvation.
So that you don't have to engage in law keeping trying to improve, improve the flesh.
Oh God has a righteous basis for the saving of your soul, and he wants you to believe in his son Jesus. That's the only way that you can honor him.
Man left God through distrust in him.
God wants your confidence to be reinstated. He wants you to come back to faith in Christ.
He's done everything he possibly can for you.
And will you go to hell?
Trampling on the precious blood of Christ.
Will you go past that cross?
Will you leap over those prayers of your father and mother?
And go down to eternal despair.
That's the consequences of sin.
And he was to reprove the world of judgment.
Because the Prince of this world is judged.
Now is the Prince of this world judge.
Nor shall the Prince of this world be cast out.
That's a statement from the 12Th of John.
And God at the point of the day into which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained.
00:45:01
Whereof He's given assurance unto all men, and that he's raised him from the dead. Acts 17.
And this brings us to a point.
X12.
48 and they're not Acts 12 John 1248.
He that rejects me.
Think of it.
He that rejecteth me.
And receiveth not my words.
Has one that judges him.
The word that I have spoken.
The same word shall judge him in the last day.
Will you dare to go out of this room?
Rejecting.
The message of God's grace.
Do not.
Run the danger.
Of neglecting so great salvation.
For apart from Christ in Adam.
You're a Sinner.
And you need the cleansing power of the precious blood of Christ.
He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life.
He that believeth not the Son shall not see life.
But the wrath of God abideth on him.
But God wants you to come into the good.
Of his love.
And the provision that he's made for the salvation of your soul by the gift of his son to die on Calvary's cross.
He wants you to do that now.
Hebrews 12.
Verse 25.
We bypass this in the reading.
See that you refuse, not him that speaketh.
For if they escape not, who refused him that spake on earth.
You get a description of that? Terrible.
Scene that came about when the law was given about.
Much more.
There are five much mores in Romans 5.
Much more Shall not we escape?
If we turn away from him.
That speaketh from heaven.
You didn't hear a message from Kentucky?
Tonight.
You heard a message from heaven.
Verily, verily, I see unto you.
You'd hear us my word.
And believers on him that sent me.
As everlasting life.
And shall not come into judgment.
00:50:05
It hangs over your head.
But is past.
From death under Adam, unto life in Christ.
Why not step over?
Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.
And thou shalt be saved.
Turn the hymn sheets back to.
Page 1 so they'll be ready for the stack.
And we're seeing #1.
Softly shall we?
Almost first.
Rise to Christine save.
Us all.
Home.
You Cannot Hide From God
Gospel—R. Bauman
DISCLAIMER: The following has been auto-transcribed. We hope it will help you to find the section of this audio file you are looking for.
Now, even before we sing to him, I want to have a few verses before us.
In First Chronicles chapter 28.
First Chronicles, Chapter 28.
It's David speaking the King.
Man after God's own heart, man of faith, one who served God. Verse 2 Then David the king stood up upon his feet and said, Hear me, my brethren and my people. As for me, I had it in my heart to build a House of rest for the ark of the covenant of the Lord and for the footstool of our God. And I made ready for the building that was his desire.
To build a house for his God who was so good to him for so many years.
But God said, Thou shalt not build a house for thy name.
You know, his son was to build the house, Solomon.
And the Lord told his son in verse 10. Take heed now, for the Lord has chosen thee to build a house for the sanctuary. Be strong and do it.
You see, David had it on his heart to build a house, but God had another plan.
And I was thinking of one other place in the New Testament, in Acts.
Acts Chapter 7.
Verse 9.
And the patriarchs.
Moved with Envy. Sold Joseph into Egypt.
But God was with him, and delivered him out of all his afflictions.
And gave him favor and wisdom.
Now if we turn to Genesis 45.
We'll see that portion.
Joseph speaking.
Verse 7. Genesis 45. Seven God sent me before you.
To preserve you for a posterity in the earth and to save your lives.
By great deliverance. So now it was not you that sent me hit her, but God. Chapter 50.
Chapter 50 and verse.
20 But As for you, ye thought evil against me.
But God meant it unto good.
You know, you may think everything is all right tonight, with your soul, with your life even. But God says if you're still in your sins, if you haven't received Jesus Christ, his Son and Savior, you're in peril.
But God makes all the difference, you see.
But God says you lost.
You need a savior.
You're not right, and God knows your heart.
You know that same one, David in Psalm said. God knows the secrets of the heart.
And he searches all the hearts and all the imaginations of the thoughts of the hearts.
Now what is your heart like?
Yours and mine. But Jeremiah, the heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked. Who can know it?
You know, God knows that.
God knows that. And God knows you need a savior. You're going to have to do what God?
Friend, everyone here is going to have to do with God. You can't avoid that.
If there's any here that are still in your sins, you're not only in peril of eternal punishment, but you're going to have to face God. You can't avoid that.
Turn to Psalm 139 for a verse on that. I think it's very important. Psalm 139.
Verse 6 verse 7.
Whither shall I go from thy spirit?
Whither shall I flee from thy presence? And now Jeremiah 23.
00:05:08
Verse 24 Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? Says the Lord. Do not I feel heaven and earth, says the Lord. You're going to have to do with him. Friend, Sinner. So don't deceive yourself. Your heart will deceive you. It's not my chance. You're here. It isn't a happenstance that you're here. I don't care what brought you or how you came in. God meant it.
For good, this is the gospel.
God saw that you came in tonight to hear the word of God. He wants you saved.
Isn't that a wonderful thing? But God knows you have a need. But God has made provision for it. And God brought you in tonight. How wonder how wonderful. You know. The only thing standing in the way of the eternal salvation of any soul here is the will of that one.
If God had his way tonight, you're going to be saved.
If the Lord Jesus has his way tonight, you're going to be saved.
If the Holy Spirit has His way tonight, you're going to be saved.
And the only thing that stands in the way of your being saved is your will against God. That's all.
And if anyone here finds themselves in hell.
In hell forever.
Satan will have a victory he'll have had his way tonight, and you're the reason.
You're the reason solemn, isn't it? Oh, God would have all to be saved. Why is it that men must suffer, or women or children? An eternal punishment in hell? Do you ever think of that? Is it because of the multitude of your sins? Oh no. Oh no. I'm sure there are many, but that isn't the reason. Is it because of the magnitude of your sins? The great terrible things you've done? Oh no.
It's because you will not believe and receive the love of the truth that you might be saved. That's all.
That's the only reason souls go to hell.
Not one in hell will ever blame God. No, none will ever blame God.
What will you say?
If you are suspended in space.
Before the great White throne of Judgment, what will you say? I can tell you.
You'll be speechless.
There will be no one say anything.
You'll be speechless because God's faithful.
Let's see #12 #12.
This was written by a woman, Charlotte Elliott, who was a sickly person in her youth, very religious, very religious. She lived a good life.
Thought she was safe.
Thought her works would be all right. God will give her some credit.
She was at a banquet in London.
And she met Doctor Caesar Milan from Geneva. Great evangelist, a gospel preacher.
And in talking to her he sensed.
She was a religious person but lost.
He didn't want to offend her. He didn't want to hurt that dear, frail girl's feelings. But he knew he had to be faithful to God and to her soul. And he said, My dear young lady, I do trust you are really and truly a believer, a Christian. That offended her, offended her. She said some terrible things and left right away.
But she didn't sleep well because she knew. She knew that she wasn't ready to be God.
And she went back to see Doctor Milan before he went back to Geneva. And Charlotte Elliott said, I'm sorry for what I said to you. I was so upset.
I know I'm not ready, but you said we just have to come to the Lord. How can I come to him?
I am so unworthy.
I have sinned. So you know what he said. My dear young lady, you just come as you are. Let Jesus do the rest. That lovely. It's so simple. She came that night and she was saved, and she wrote some precious hymns, and this is one of them. And this hymn was based on those words of Doctor Caesar Milan that brought her to Christ, just as you are, just as I am.
00:10:03
Without one plea. That's the gospel. The lovely. The Lord wants you all saved. I hope none of you walk out of here lost in your peril.
On your way to hell you could come while you sing to him.
Just as I am.
Now let's look to God and seek help. This is the word of God, precious. But it's powerful, You know, the word of God has been preserved all these years against all the attacks that have been made against it.
But it'll go on forever.
Heaven and earth may pass away, but the precious word will never pass away. God has preserved it tonight for you, dear sinners, so you can hear and be saved. And I trust you here with an ear of faith. I trust you realize that this precious book is the book that can save your precious soul. One verse is sufficient to save the soul of every Sinner here. There's power in it.
You know, years ago there was a woman called Emily Carr in Victoria, Vancouver.
She is one of the oldest ones there. They called her eccentric. She did some things that they thought were a little different. She was very old, but she wore clothes that were older than she and she'd go around pushing a baby buggy to get her shopping done and put the packages in an old fashioned buggy. And in it she kept her pet monkey dressed. And so they said there goes crazy old Emily Carr. She's happy and busy.
00:15:11
She painted and sketched scenes of Vancouver and Victoria.
Scenes of God's creative nature of the birds and animal life, and of the Indians there.
You know, the people that bought and moved into Emily's cars house had a terrible job clearing it. All the debris and rubbish they said she left behind. Room after room. They got to the attic and they found dozens after dozens of old sketches that she had made and some paintings and they just added them to this big pile of rubbish and they had a great bonfire.
That was $1,000,000 bonfire. One year before she died, she became famous.
And a day from Vancouver to Montreal you won't find.
An Art Museum without an Emily car painting or more. One painting today, I don't care what one it is, is worth $50,000. Easy.
They burned it. You know, everyone has the Bible, I'm sure, in your home.
Perhaps you will just not think about it. Leave it. The next one will burn it. Throw it away.
This priceless. That's priceless. Like those that burned the Emily carpeting.
You're not here by chance.
God meant it for your good.
That's why you're here. Let's turn to.
Luke's Gospel, Chapter 16 Luke's Gospel.
I have that expression on my heart tonight, but God meant it for your good.
Chapter 16 Oh, I just have two verses here, 14 and 15.
The Pharisees also who were covetous, heard all these things, and they derided Jesus. And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men, self-righteous you see, self-righteous like your nature, and mine like the way we are, Naturally we justify ourselves, but before men, never before God, before men.
These Pharisees were the religious leaders of the day.
They accuse Jesus always. They sought to find fault with my blessed Savior. Always.
They hated him and had murder in their heart. The carnal mind of man is at enmity with God.
Religious or non religious? Now let's take a look at these Pharisees, the 18th chapter.
Just a peak. Just a peak.
Verse 11 We are in the temple.
Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself. God, I thank thee. I'm not like other men are extortioners, unjust adulterers. Even as this publican I fast twice in the week I give tithes of all that I possess.
He justified himself, he said. Thank God. It's nice to thank God. But what did he thank God for? I'm like I am. I'm not like other man like that Sinner.
Justified himself before men.
And the public, and standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven.
But smote his breast in shame, and said but 7 words, and it ushered him into heaven.
God, be merciful to me, the Sinner, Jesus said, justified.
That lovely.
That's all it takes to be saved. Repentance towards God faced in the Lord Jesus Christ. You're on your way to heaven.
You're going to know it. You're going to be happy about it. You're going to tell others. That's the gospel.
Now, the Lord said.
He justify back in 15 and chapter 16. Ye are they that justify yourself before men. Ah, here it is.
But God.
But God, that makes all the difference.
But God knoweth your hearts. That makes all the difference.
The very next account in this chapter when he said that.
00:20:00
Is about the man who fared sumptuously every day of his life.
But God is faithful. Outside his gate was the testimony of how to be saved. The lovely Lazarus was there. Lazarus would have loved to have the crumbs from that man's table.
Poor beggar.
But a child of God by faith, the testimony was there.
God made sure. And every time that rich man left his door and came back, the testimony was there.
Had he given Lazarus the time of day, he would have given him the way to heaven.
The testimony is in your hand tonight. God's made sure, but isn't it wonderful?
That rich man died and was buried and in torments in hell. He lifted up his eyes.
And he saw that beggar.
In glory.
The rich man became poor and the beggar became rich because that's the way the Lord is.
And he cried. He cried.
Mercy.
Lord mercy, too late.
Too late, He justified himself before men, but God said.
He had no time for God, but God had plenty of time for him.
Now he says, but God knoweth your hearts. This speaks to you. Don't forget, Jeremiah said. Your heart is deceitful above every all things. It's desperately wicked. Your heart will tell you you're doing pretty good. Satan will do that. You're hard to tell. You're not as bad as the others on your street. Satan will do that. Your heart will tell you you're religious and God will have to give you some credit for that hour a week you're giving him, keeping 167 for yourself.
But God knows your heart. It's wicked. It's deceitful. It will deceive you.
Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, said Solomon.
The heart of men are fully set to do evil.
They're fully set. It's there, just like a bomb ready to come out.
Take all the police force out of Tampa sometime and let it be known.
You won't be safe in the street or in your house. One minute, which is there, ready to go, fully set to do evil. I'm not just imagining that. It happened in Ottawa, in Ottawa, ON.
The police went on strike and let it be known the day before midnight there will be no police.
Carnage. Carnage. They boldly broke the windows and took the TV's out of the stores and everything else they could find walking down the street. No one to stop them. It's fully set to do evil. That's your heart and mind.
God knows it. Now in Acts 821 God says this.
Your heart is not right with God.
Your heart is not right with God. If you're still in your sins, that's to you. Your heart is not right with God.
That's the problem.
The problem, dear Sinner, is your heart. It's not right with God.
It takes much of yourself. It deceives you.
You know, there's not much time. This rich man makes me think of Dennis Barnhart. Maybe you read it last year.
He was a computer king at age 34.
Dennis Barnhart, Do you remember that story in the papers?
You know what happens fast?
He had Eagle Corporation. Eagle Inc, he called it.
And they expected him to be the witches man the world in a short time.
Dennis Barnhart put the stock of that corporation on the market the first day he made $33 million first day.
That day, at the end of that market day, he was driving home in his red Ferrari with a yacht salesman at his side so he could discuss the yacht he was going to purchase that made.
He left the road at high speed into a tree instantly in eternity.
The day he became a millionaire, he became a pauper for eternity, and that's all.
Isn't that solemn?
Yes, God knows your heart, and that's why the gospel goes out. You need a new one.
A new life. The life is no good.
00:25:04
Let's turn to Romans 5, fifth chapter of Romans.
Therefore, being justified by faith, we have peace with God.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, and there is no other way.
No other way.
To be at peace with God about this in question.
You need a substitute.
You need a mediator, one who can stand between you and God and take you both and bring you together.
Job was looking for one a day's man, Job says. Am I like God that I can stand before him?
I need a mediator, one who will put his hand on God and on me and bring us together.
There is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave his life a ransom for all to be testified in due time.
And if you're still in your sins, dear friends, this is your due time. This is it. I dare say you've had it before, but I can't promise you'll have it again.
I expect the Lord to come. I would not be surprised, in fact sort of disappointed, if he doesn't come before this gospel is over.
He's coming soon. You've got two cut offs you're facing right now.
One is your death, you know, Job says. Because there is wrath. Beware.
Lest he take thee away with his stroke. And then a great ransom cannot redeem thee. It's forever too late. Death is always a threat. Like Dennis Barnard, the day became a millionaire. He became a pauper for eternity. Ushered into eternity forever. But there's another cut off. The Lord is coming. He's promised. It's time. We're on the very brink of that time when everyone who believes him and is saved is going to be ushered out of here like Enoch of old. Without dying. Translated.
And when the Lord comes, should he come before we reach the end of this time?
There will be some if you are still in your sins in your seats without a preacher.
And you'll know where we've gone. How solemn. Forever. Too late. Forever. Too late. Verse 5, verse 6.
When we're yet without strength, in due time, Christ died for the ungodly without strength. What does that mean? That means that one Sinner can do one thing to get him one step toward God in heaven.
Without strength, you can't do anything.
A Sinner can't do anything to take a step toward God.
That's a helpless you are.
Ungodly, it says ungodly. Yes, ungodly sinners are ungodly. They can't be godly.
Only by receiving Christ can you be God like you have his life. That's beautiful.
Verse 8.
When we were yet sinners, Christ died for us sinners. I hope there isn't anyone here who doesn't think you're a Sinner.
The scriptures have included all under sin. Why? So that faith of Christ may be given to all who believe the faith that saves God has declared everyone here tonight is qualified for heaven.
Because.
Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners and thank God when He let me realize I was not only a Sinner, but Lord.
I hit my knees fast when I realized what was ahead for me, and rightfully so, I hit my knee. I received Christ and I rejoiced ever since. And it gets better every day and I can't wait to see him face to face.
I hope you realize you're a Sinner.
One sin will keep you out of heaven.
One sin? What kind of a mountain of sins have you piled up?
I had a mountain.
That blessed Savior took them all on himself for me.
In judgment by a thrice holy God, in three hours of darkness on the cross of Christ.
Yeah, it says without strength, ungodly sinners anymore. Look at verse 10. Enemies.
00:30:06
The carnal minds and enemy with God.
I didn't know when I was lost. I was an enemy, but I just didn't want to be too close.
I just didn't want him bothering me when I was doing certain things.
I hated him but didn't realize it. I was an enemy. I was an enemy.
I feared.
Now I love him. He's my father.
That's conversion. That's new life. That's salvation. It's wonderful. Now though, this verse 8.
God. All those things are true, but God.
Commendeth his love toward us, in that while you are yet sinners, while we are yet ungodly, while we yet without strength, while you are yet sinners and enemies. God sent Christ, and He died for you. Isn't that wonderful?
God commendeth his love. What does that mean?
Do you ever commend anything that isn't good?
When you commend something to somebody, you've tried it and it's good you want them to take it.
God wants you saved so much. He is commanding his love to you, he says. Please believe it and receive it.
Think of that. He's commanding it to you right now.
So you could be in heaven forever.
Saved from the hell you deserve. You know his love. Isn't that wonderful?
God commendeth his love.
You see that verse 8 is so precious.
The source of that love is God himself.
It's divine love. It's the love that can love the unlovely thing, Even me.
Even me and you is divine love. That's the source, God.
The subject of that love.
His ungodly sinners.
There's no higher source for love than that, you see, but there's no lower subject.
For that love to reach out to an ungodly sinners.
And the sacrifice of that love is his own blessed Son.
In who was all his delights? Jesus.
There isn't any greater sacrifice he could have made. Isn't that enough to win your heart?
Is that enough to bring you to Christ? God commends us to you.
The love of God is past. Finding out past finding out. God is love. Now you know the verse John 316. I trust you all do.
Call it the greatest ever verse that I believe it is. You know, Luther called it the little Bible. I have a little card I take and it is because it introduces me so quickly to anybody. I don't care who it is. Waitresses are where they seem to have recognized that verse all over the world. John 316 just like Jesus loves me. Little song, his song everywhere. God is faithful. He's made sure his love is known.
I call it the greatest ever verse, not the little Bible, but that's good.
God, the greatest possible source.
Of authority or anything. God. That's it. That's where we start with John 316 for God.
Soul of the greatest possible source of love there could be divide divine love.
All other love that we talk about is selfish.
All other love is self efficient. Divine love can love the unlovely thing. That's God.
Wonderful. The world. The greatest possible sphere for that rule of to reach out the whole world.
Isn't that lovely that he gave the greatest possible giver? It's gone. Who could be a greater giver than God?
His only begotten son, The greatest possible gift.
His only begotten son. Thanks be to God for his unspeakable gift.
That whosoever believeth on him, the greatest possible offer is being made tonight. Whosoever, anybody, everyone.
Wonderful. And Jesus said him that cometh to me on the wife cast out.
Should not perish. The greatest possible promise should not perish. I've claimed it. I'm living in the good of it. I hope you do. You won't perish. You won't be judged for your sins. You won't go to hell. No. Wonderful. But the greatest possible difference.
00:35:11
But half everlasting life. The greatest possible assurance. I got it. I got it right now. That's the greatest possible verse. That's the love of God. He commends it to you tonight, dear friends. He commends it to you tonight. He wants you to take it tonight. This may be your last opportunity.
But God commendeth his love toward us, and that while we are yet sinners, Christ died for us. Is there anymore He can say? Is there any more, any better way he could express his love to you?
There was a father who had a little family.
Wasn't worthy of them. He was an alcoholic, habitual, uncurable, practically. They tried everything.
His wife, the older daughters. Yeah, little boy. They tried everything. And finally those older ones began to nag. They began to belittle him, berate him, try to embarrass him, say terrible things to him, try to get him to stop out of shame.
You know that little boy received Jesus in Sunday school.
He had told his father about that.
He loved his father.
But his boy was dying at 8 years old and the doctor said there is no hope and there's no time.
When that man heard that, he sobered quickly.
He went into that room and he fell on that boy trying. He said. Doctor, you're wrong. God won't do this to my son. You have to be wrong. He's going to live. I know it.
That little boy said. Father, I know I'm going to heaven.
The doctor said so. And I'm ready. But I want you to know one thing, Father. When I get to heaven, I want you to remember this.
But Father, I've always loved you, even though you did get drunk.
You know that day the boy went to heaven? That day that Father hit his knees? That did it. Love like that. There's a little type of the love of Christ, Love of God, you see, even if you are his enemy.
Even if you are unworthy in a Sinner. Even if you are ungodly and helpless.
Christ died for you. Hustle of God. That's the love of God. Turn to Acts. Thirteen, 13th chapter of Acts.
Paul preaching verse 26.
Paul preaching to the Jews, men and brethren, children of the sock of Abraham.
And whosoever among you feareth God, to you is the word of this salvation.
Sent.
Did you notice whosoever? Oh, it's throughout the whole word of God.
Whosoever feareth God.
You know in Psalm 6616 it says this come.
Unto me all ye that fear God, and I'll tell you.
What he has done for my soul, that's what a gospel preacher Diesel See he tells what God has done for his soul.
But it's only those that fear God can hear it. Only those that realize they're going to face the holy God.
That's the ones that fear God.
But it's whosoever.
You know, the very last thing in the word of God brings it in turn to Revelations 22. I want to show you.
God never quits pleading with the Sinner. Never notice this.
22nd Chapter of Revelations and verse 18 No verse.
17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come, and let him that heareth say, Come, and let him that is a thirst come, And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.
You know, sometimes the truth, So ever sometimes it's everyone.
I looked up everyone in Webster's dictionary because it comes out in the Word of God quite often too.
And you know, Webster's got this. Everyone means this one, that one, and all of the others too. I think that's a good definition.
00:40:02
Whosoever means you, whoever you are, but whosoever, isn't that wonderful that God's love reaches? All like that, whosoever you know, there's a whosoever of the gift of God. John 316 We just had it. There's a whosoever, the judgment of God. Revelations 20 Look at it. Revelations 20 Verse 15. Whosoever was not found written in the book of life.
Was cast in the lake of fire. That's whosoever of the judgment of God. Now there's a whosoever, the grace of God. That's Revelation 22, verse 17. We just had it. We just had it.
And there's a whosoever of the salvation of God, Proverbs 8, verse 35. We won't take time to turn to it.
Whosoever findeth me, says, the Lord findeth life.
Is that lovely? You want life tonight eternal. You want to know tonight that you're judgment free?
You want to know tonight that you're on your way to heaven. No matter what happens, you're going to spend an eternity as Co heir with God bless his son, the Lord Jesus.
Find him. He's here. He's here. The Holy Spirit is here to bring you to him. Christ wants you to come. That's what we have here, you see. Now let's go on in Acts 13. Who's whoever among you feareth God to you? Is the word of this salvation sin. For they that dwell at Jerusalem and their rulers because they knew him, not verse 27. Case summer behind because they knew him. Not now yet the voices of the prophet.
Which are read every Sabbath day. They fulfilled the word of God in condemning Jesus.
They knew him, not John's Gospel. I chapter says this.
He came under his own. His own received him not. He came into the world. The world knew him not.
He went to Jerusalem, and they crucified him, but as many as received him.
To them gave he the right or power to become the sons of God. Even to they that believe on his name you go believe tonight be included. Me included. Verse 28, though they found no cause of death at him.
His judge. Think of it, The Son of God, the Creator of this world.
The one in whose hand is your next breath.
The one who stains all life sustains it by himself.
Was judged by one of his creatures, a sinful man at that pilot.
Pilate said to Jesus, Knowest thou not I have power?
To crucify thee.
The arrogance of man.
Jesus says thou hast no power at all.
Unless it's given thee from above my father.
Pilate said three times over.
I find no fault in this man at all.
That's his judge. That's his trial. That's the verdict. Innocent, holy, faultless, perfect man.
And though they found no cause of death at him, yet desired the pilot that he should be slave.
The carnal minds at enmity with God don't forget it.
The heart of man was exposed in all its nakedness and awfulness at the cross.
Don't try and find out your heart. There it is. Look at the cross, you'll see it.
Everything they could do in hatred they did to that blessed one who came disabled. That's the heart of man.
Now we go on. And when they had fulfilled all that was written of Jesus.
They took him down from the tree and laid him in a sepulchre.
All the signs of the Old Testament Scriptures.
We're perfectly fulfilled by Jesus in His birth, His life, death and resurrection, everyone.
All fulfilled in that one He's my savior.
He's my creator, but he is my Redeemer and my savior.
The blood of Jesus Christ, God's Son, will cleanse everyone here from all your sins is offered to you tonight. Now they took him down from the tree.
His own self were our sins, if you have him in his own body on the tree.
00:45:03
That's where it all took place on the tree.
O Cross of Christ.
O wondrous tree.
What place can be compared with Thee where God's own Son was crucified?
For my sins, a ransom died on the tree. They took him down from the tree and laid him in a tomb of Sepulchre. And if that was the end of it, I'd go on my way to hell.
But God, there it is. Verse 30. But God raised him from the dead. He's a living savior. There's a man in glory, the man Christ. Jesus, my savior. He lives. He lives. Isn't it wonderful for me? And he lives for you, if you'll have him.
A savior who's at the right hand of God living.
You know, those women came to that tomb with spices.
To anoint his body out of love.
But the tomb was empty.
And the Angel said, Why seek ye him that liveth among the dead?
He's not here. He's risen. Remember what he said to you when he was with you?
Oh, that wonderful. He's risen. That's the victory cry of every Christian.
Jesus Christ has risen.
From the dead and I've arisen one too, a new life in me, And so can you have it if you receive him.
The victory cry thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory.
Through the Lord Jesus Christ.
You know when Russia decided to stamp out religion?
And God.
Many years ago in the square Moscow, they had a big get together, a celebration for atheists, and they had some of the greatest atheistic orders in Russia there on the platform and the people had to listen to that.
They blasphemed. They shook their fists. They said there's no God.
It's all a myth and on and on. They made the clergy come, They made the pastors come. They made the man of God come and listen to that.
And when they were done, the officials.
Offered to let anyone of those men come up and refute what does atheist said.
Lot of water too, because of the awfulness of that time, the guns and the soldiers and all.
And so one of the officials went down and got up along the old pastor Gray haired band.
Is saved.
He had let a little flock in the country for years.
Put him there and said, What are you going to say man, to that?
Like Nehemiah, he praises the God of heaven.
God puts words in your mouth when you pray to the God of heaven. You know what He said.
Christ is truly risen. Hallelujah.
Everyone in that crowd that loved the Lord Jesus or feared God raised that cry. They couldn't stop it. They couldn't stop it. Christ is truly the reason. Hallelujah.
That whole affair turned in reverse, and that cry went out through the streets of the alleys in Russia, city to city, country to countryside.
That was the slogan. For a long time. They couldn't stamp it out.
That's the victory cry of every Christian He's truly risen, but God raised him from the dead. Oh, how wonderful.
1St Corinthians 15 We Won't turn to it.
But this is the gospel.
That Jesus Christ died and was buried according.
To the scriptures, and he rose again according to the scriptures.
Well, I can add something. He's coming again, according to the Scriptures. Oh yeah, 319 times in the New Testament. He's coming again. He doesn't want you to say you didn't know he himself is coming. He's not sending a legion of angels. He's coming himself, for me and for you, if you belong to him and for everyone else in faith, living or dead, and when he comes.
00:50:01
This world is giving up every believer.
Every cemetery is giving up every believer. There will not be a Christian left in the sea. That's fast.
Solid business. Turn to Luke 12, Luke Chapter 12.
Verse 16 Jesus spake A parable the ground of a certain rich man, brought forth plentifully.
He thought was it himself. What shall I do? Because I have no room. Wherewith do we bestow my fruits? And he said, this will I do. I'll pull down my barns and build greater there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods?
And I will say to my soul, he knew he had a soul.
So you ever talk with yourself? This guy did.
He had all figured out so thou hast much goods laid up for many years. Take thy knees, eat, drink, and be merry.
That's a retirement plan. Men love to do that. You know, the retirement plan.
He had everything but take care of himself. Things went well.
We had a judge back where I came from on the probate court.
And he was about the 22nd or third one. And there was pictures.
Of everyone before him, with the date of their birth and the date of their death. That everyone of them the date of their death where they were still in office.
There's a blank space ready for him.
But he wasn't going to die in office. He's going to retire.
And every time I saw him towards the end, he wouldn't tell me about his perfect retirement plan. I told him about this one, too.
His perfect retirement plan. He had something to do every noon. Some businessman's club where they talked him ticklish ears and all that. He had yacht clubs. He was going to join country clubs, play golf, all. He was going to be busy.
But God said, and his picture went up, and he died in the office.
Solemn, isn't it?
Is God Faithful Corsius?
Let's go on verse 20. But God said that makes all the difference in the world.
He left God out.
And what did God say, thou fool?
Now, I'll never call a man a fool.
God has a right. But I'll tell you, dear friends, if you're going on like this, man.
If you've taken care of every detail in your life for retirement, if you've insured everything but your soul, I'm going to tell you what God says, you fool.
God says I didn't say it. You're a fool.
You know, I talked to men who are selling insurance. I say, look at your selling death insurance, calling it life insurance. God's giving away life insurance and it's free and they won't take it.
There's no cancellation clause in it. My God.
Wonderful, isn't it?
God says you're a fool.
Made sure everything they got but their soul. The only thing that matters, the only thing that matters. And I'll tell you something, if you receive Christ tonight, you're going to have the best down here and everything there is ahead.
That's the way God is. That's the way God is.
What is a fool?
He that layeth up treasure for himself and isn't rich toward God. There's an eternity ahead, friend. There's an eternity ahead.
Turn to Ecclesiastes 5. Let's listen to the wisest man that ever lived apart from Christ.
Solomon Ecclesiastes 5 I'll just read and take time to say anything.
Ninth Verse Moreover, the prophet of the earth is for all the king himself is served by the field. He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver, nor he that loveth abundance with increase. This is vanity. When goods increase, they are increased that eat them.
And what good is there to the owners thereof, saving the beholding of them with their eyes?
The sleep of the laboring man is sweet, whether eat little or much, But the abundance of the rich will not suffer him to sleep. Now there's a sore evil which I've seen under the sun, Riches kept for the owners thereof. To their hurt, to their hurt, thou fool.
00:55:04
Thou fool, as he came forth out of his mother's womb, 15th birth naked, shall he return to go as he came? He shall take nothing of his labor with him. Nothing.
Chapter 9. Ecclesiastes, Chapter 9.
Verse 11 I returned and saw under the sun. The race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bred to the wise, nor riches to men of understanding, nor yet favor to men of skill. But time and chance happeneth to them all. There's no difference. Man also knoweth not his time as the fishes that are taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are caught in the snare, so are the sons of men snared in an evil time when it fallen suddenly upon them.
11Th chapter verse 8.
But if a man lived many years, and rejoice in the mall, yet let him remember the days of darkness, for they shall be many.
Verse five of the next chapter in the middle because man goeth to his long home.
If a man lived many years, rejoice in the mall. Let him remember the days of darkness.
The blackness of darkness forever.
Man goes to his long haul. Everyone here has a life that isn't going to end. The only question you have is where you're going to spend it. In hell or in heaven? In torments or in glory. That's all.
That's all.
Turn to Ephesians Chapter 2.
Ephesians chapter 2.
And you hath he quickened, and given life, that is, who were dead in trespasses and sins.
Verse three, among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lust of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind. And we're by nature children of wrath, even as others.
I won't take time to turn to it. We're running out. But you can turn to John 336 and you'll find the verse without a middle.
Yes, he that believeth in the Son hath life. He that believeth not the Son shall not see life. But there's more. The wrath of God abideth on him. The wrath of God abides on every Sinner.
Solemn visitors I was a child arrived. Thank God it's gone.
God is gone.
Judgment is gone. Death has no hold on me. The brave can't keep me. I'm on my way to glory. Now let's read but God verse 4. But God, who is rich in mercy for his great love, wherewith he loved us even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ. By grace are you saved and raised us up together and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.
Verse 8. For by grace are you saved through faith? That's not of yourself, it's a gift of God. Verse 11 Wherefore remember that G being in times past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called uncircumcision for that which is called the circumcision in the flesh made by hands. And now the 12Th verse describes me without Christ having no hope.
Without God in the world, I was that way for years. With the wrath of God abiding on me, is there anything worse than this description Sinner? If you're in your sins, this is your description.
Without Christ, having no hope, without God in the world, can there be anything worse?
Yes, we can die in your sins.
Die in your sins.
That's your condition forever. Second death.
Eternal separation from a holy God whose love and light.
That means it will be the blackness of doctors forever.
That means it will be a place of torment, agony, anguish, gnashing of teeth forever. Because there's no love. Absolutely no love.
01:00:04
All sinners, if there's any here still in your sins, I plead with you.
Come before it's forever too late.
I'll tell you.
Only once in the word of God is this word used.
Eternity. Eternity Only once.
The high and lofty One who inhabits eternity.
But you have an eternity too ahead. Think of it. They'll never end. Eternity never ends. Check Webster. See what he says about that word.
His tongue twist, trying to tell you.
Timeless state?
Nobody getting in the wind forever. That's eternity.
The days of darkness may be many.
Let me tell you something. I want to read you a little poem and end.
I will give you an idea of eternity.
Count the little drops of water that within the ocean lie. Count the many stars, stars that twinkle as you look into the sky, and count the sands upon the desert and upon the ocean shore.
And count the moments in your lifetime come but to return no more. And count the leaves within the forest and the tiny flakes of snow, And count the blades of grass in summer, and the shining drops of dew, And count the tears which all the millions in so many lands have shed. Count the stones and all the graveyards telling where they've laid the dead. Count the birds which soar above us and the atoms in the air, And count the many, many blossoms, giving fragrance everywhere and when you're counting.
All is done. Eternity.
Will scarce begun.
Then friends say, where will you be for all eternity?

We had yesterday versus.
Read to us from Colossians Chapter one.
Please turn with me to Colossians Chapter one.
We read some verse 12.
In Would you allow me please to read that portion in Mr. Darby's translation? And if you carefully follow the reading, you will probably understand why we read from chapter one, verse 12.
Giving thanks to the father who has made us fit for sharing the portion.
Of the Saints in light, who has delivered us from the authority of darkness?
And translated us into the Kingdom of the Son of his love.
In whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins? Who is image of the invisible God, first born of all creation? Because by him were created all things, the things in the heavens and the things upon the earth, the visible and the invisible, whether Thrones or lordships or principalities or authorities, all things have been created by Him.
00:10:00
And for him and he is before all, and all things subsist together by him, and he is the head of the body, the assembly, who is the beginning, first born from among the dead, that he might have the first place in all things for in him.
All for in him the fullness of the Godhead was pleased to dwell.
And by him to reconcile all things to itself, having made peace by the blood of His cross, by him, whether the things on the earth or the things in the heavens.
And you who were once, who once were alienated and enemies in mind by wicked words.
It now has it reconciled in the body of his flesh through death, to present you wholly and unblameable and irreproachable before it, If indeed ye abide in the faith founded, infirm, and not moved away from the hope of the glad tidings which ye have heard, which have been proclaimed in the whole creation, which is under heaven of which I Paul became minister.
The.
This is indeed a most wonderful portion in the word of God.
And it presents to us the person of the Lord Jesus as we have it in very few scriptures. You would have difficulties finding a scripture that enumerates and puts together so many glories of our blessed Lord, the Lord Jesus Christ.
And we know that these were Gentiles.
To whom he was writing.
Sinners of the Gentiles like you and I, but had been brought to the Lord Jesus, and had been saved by grace, and been added to the body, of which a blessed Lord is the glorious head.
We have the fact mentioned that we at one time were under the power of darkness.
You know, this is something beloved, that is so important to call to mind. Not only that the Lord Jesus saved our souls so that we wouldn't go to hell, but he also has removed us from under the power under which we were, or from a realm to which we belonged. And Satan is the Prince and God of that.
You know, I am afraid, beloved, that there is so much.
Feebleness in our life and in our walk, because we do not enough remember and lay hold of this side of the truth that we have not only been forgiven.
But that we have been delivered.
We have not only found shelter behind the door.
Where the blood was.
That sheltered us from judgment.
Because we deserved it, did we not? Just like the We're not any better than the Egyptians.
They deserve to be punished just as much. But God in grace made a provision, A provision, so that they would not have to suffer judgment. A substitute had taken the place. The blood was put on the doorpost and on the lentils, and the avenger could not enter there because one had already died. What a wonderful truth that is. I hope we will never, never forget to thank the Lord for what he has done there. But.
We also were slaves, You know, we were under the power of Pharaoh. Satan, that's what he's a picture of, and we need it to be delivered. You know, we have to go through that Red Sea and we have to stand on the other side and look back and see the enemy dead by the seashore. The power is broken. We are no longer slaves of sin and Satan.
The Lord has redeemed us and delivered us.
You know, sometimes we want to bring people into the sanctuary.
Without really seeing them come into the good in their own souls of the work of redemption, you know they're not really delivered.
00:15:08
So you know, we have to remember in the book of Exodus, the sanctuary comes after they had gone through the Rat Sea. You know you can't really bring sanctuary truth before the people of God if they are not in the enjoyment of the death of Christ, which has also.
Destroyed the power of the enemy.
And beloved, we need that more and more. And what a wonderful thing it is.
To know that we have been delivered from the authority or the power of darkness, and have been translated into the Kingdom of His dear Son.
You know, the Father is the one that initiated it all.
He is the one.
That has made us need to be partakers of the inheritance of the Saints in light, no longer in darkness. You know, Scripture speaks of aspilavit as being in darkness and even darkness itself. Once we were darkness, but now we are light in the Lord.
You know, beloved, I don't think we can bring positional truth enough before the people of God.
To get a clear understanding what we have been brought to in Christ and what our standing and position is before God. Because only then can we understand what is becoming for us as far as our conduct is concerned. You know responsibility.
Always flows from relationship and privilege. You know, you have both of these sides in Scripture, and sometimes I'm afraid there's a tendency amongst the Saints of God.
To only look at certain aspects of the truth of God and we almost give the impression that we want to dictate to the Lord what scriptures he has to use to bless us instead of accepting the fact that he is sovereign. And he has given us such a wonderful book. He doesn't want us to be lopsidedly fed. And I believe scripture is clear that it brings Read the epistles of Paul. What do they do in the beginning?
They bring before us the work of the Lord Jesus and that which we have been brought into.
And then responsibility follows. That's God's order. And if you do not have a clear.
Understanding of what the work of Christ has brought us into and what we are before God in him we never can really take up the other side without being in danger of getting off, you know, and getting out of grace, if I may put it that way. But but a wonderful truth that is, it's all God's doing that we are what we are.
God has done it. He took the initiative and he has brought us.
Where we are.
And He has translated us into the Kingdom of His dear Son, the Son of His love. You know, isn't that wonderful? That I can say, based on the truth of Scripture, that He does not love me any less than He loves his only begotten Son.
That's really true, isn't it? The love wherewith he loves the Son. Such is his love for me. We have been brought into the Kingdom of the Son of His love.
And then we have this Son is the one that has brought redemption to us.
Well, notice here that we do not have in Mr. Darby's translation that the redemption is through his blood as we have it elsewhere. And it has been pointed out, and is good to remind us of that, that in Colossians, that is not so much what has brought our redemption or what has brought our redemption. The blood certainly has, but it brings before us in whom we have redemption.
The purpose of the writer is not to bring God means of redemption, the blood of his Son before us, but he wants to bring before us that wonderful person of his son, the Lord Jesus Christ. In him we have redemption. You know, isn't it wonderful when somebody wanted to get to see the Queen in England? I'm told he wasn't permitted to get into the palace and he was weeping outside.
00:20:17
And the son of the queen found him there, and he took him by the hand when he found out what the child wanted. And he brought him right to the queen. You know, this is what we have in the Lord Jesus. In him we have redemption. He has redeemed us, and he has brought us nigh. And then the apostle unfolds that wonderful person to us in whom we have redemption.
The one in whom we have redemption is.
The one is the image.
Of the invisible God, the first born of all creation, John says No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son who is in the bosom of the Father, he has declared him.
You know we will never know and don't need to know anymore about God.
Then what is revealed in the Lord Jesus?
He has been fully revealed and all his heart of love told out.
And when I want to know God, I look at His Son, the Lord Jesus. By faith we can, as we headed in Hebrews, we can see Him at the right hand of the majesty on high. By faith we look upon the sun, oh God, by the invited, we look upon the sun. We think so often what a lovely hymn that is. And that is how we have come to know God. We don't know God the way the Old Testament Saints know Him.
God has fully been revealed in the Old Testament we have partial revelations of God, but in the New Testament in His Son, we have Him revealed in fullness. God cannot be fully revealed to creatures as He has been revealed in the person of the Lord Jesus. What a wonderful truth that is. He is the image of the invisible God.
He is God, like it was said. He is not here in the likeness of God.
He is God. He is God the Son.
And here comes a wonderful truth. He is the first born of all creation.
He's not the one that is first born, but he has a position.
Of preeminence.
As the one who is the first born of all creation.
You know, in Adam we find that he was the head of this earthly creation.
And when he fell, everything was subjected to vanity.
But when the Blessed Lord, the Son of God, comes into his creation as a man.
Of necessity, because of who He is, that he's got eternal Son, not became it. He always was it. Because he is God's eternal Son, of necessity he has to have to position of preeminence.
The first born of all creation. You know He heads up not only this earthly creation, but the heavenly as well. Let all God's angels worship Him. What a wonderful savior we have that our Savior. But here's the thing now, beloved, what we have to understand when the Lord Jesus comes into this world as a man although he is the first born of all creation.
He is alone.
He is alone. We do not have union with Christ in incarnation. We have in John chapter 12. Unless the kernel of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone. That kernel of wheat is the Lord himself. You know when he comes he represents a new kind of humanity altogether. When Adam was created in innocency, he represents innocent humanity. When he fell, we see sinful humanity, and you and I belong to that because we are springs of.
Fallen man. But when the Blessed Lord comes, although he partakes of humanity, he takes upon himself flesh and blood. He takes part of it in a new way. We have holy humanity. We have the holy thing that is born of Thee shall be called the Son of God.
00:25:12
He partook.
Of flesh and blood he was made like unto his brethren, sent apart He was tempted in all things, like we sin apart, we have a holy human being.
And you know, we do not have union with him, apart from him going into the dead, dying, and then in resurrection He is the first born among many Brethren.
But you might say, well, why emphasize these things so strongly? Because there are teachings around in Christendom which say that reconciliation is the result of incarnation, that God and man in one person represents reconciliation in such statements. Well, that's not true. You know, when those Greeks came to see the Lord Jesus and the Lord Jesus was reminded of the fact that if these gentile sinners.
Would be saved or could really come to him that was only in him going into death, but then in resurrection.
He's not alone.
He brings forth much fruit. How wonderful that is. But he has that place of exaltation from the moment he enters this scene when we see him there as babe in Bethlehem's Manger. He is the object of worship. The angels worship, the wise men worship because there was God manifested in the flesh in Bethlehem's Manger. What a wonderful thing that is. And Brennan has said, and one delights to repeat it.
That the Angel for the first time saw their creator when they looked at the babe in Bethlehem Manger.
You know, and this Blessed One.
Has created everything.
And that's why he has to have that place of preeminence and exaltation.
But you know, he spoke this universe into existence with the word of his power.
But in order to save your soul and mine, and to join us and unite us to himself.
The Lord Jesus had to go into death.
That's the truth that we find in the word of God.
But he says also there in John chapter 12, when I be lifted up.
On this earth I shall draw all men to me not only any longer.
The Jews. But even they were not really one with the Lord Jesus.
They were in identification with him. They were his own.
But there was number union with Christ until death and resurrection.
For by him.
Where all things created that are in heaven and that are in earth.
Visible and invisible, whether they be Thrones or dominions or principalities and powers, all things were created by him and for him. Well, young people remember the Lord Jesus is the Creator. You do not have to read all kinds of books that scientifically argue for creation. Again the evolutionary theories. All you need is the statements of the Word of God that God spoke and had stood there.
And that.
The Lord Jesus created out of himself by speaking this world into existence and by faith. You understand that you do not have to have scientific proof that the evolutionary theory is nonsense. Your faith has to rest on the word of God. By faith we understand that the world's were created.
And was spoken into existence.
And they were created by him and for him, and he is before all things.
And by him all things consist they held together by him.
They're held together and they continue perfectly in their course, those stars and planets, because the Lord Jesus keeps order in the universe, He holds it all together.
And he is head of the body.
The Church Who is the beginning? The first born from the dead, from among the dead. Well, how wonderful that we have such a glorious head. You know, when their truth dawned on me and my mind, and I saw it clearly that the Lord Jesus is our wonderful head in heaven, I said to myself, how foolish for men to make a puny mortal the head of a church.
00:30:30
Who would want anyone else after we have him presented in such a wonderful way and at this wonderful person is the head of the Church?
And in him.
The fullness of the Godhead was pleased to dwell when we look at that man, Christ Jesus.
We do not only see the sun, although it was the sun that became man, yet we see the Trinity God manifested in the flesh. That's the truth of Scripture. It's not that the Father was pleased that all fullness in Him should dwell, but that in him the fullness of the Godhead was pleased to dwell as we have it in chapter 2, verse 9.
And he has made peace by the blood of the cross. We have that wonderful truth of reconciliation here in this epistle, which means that the state of animosity that existed has been removed. And how wonderful it is that God was never our enemy. God did not need to be reconciled. And in the Hebrews chapter 2, the word should be propitiation for the sins of the people, not reconciliation.
Because propitiation means to satisfy God's claims, and that was done in the death of Christ. But when I see what the death of Christ has done for me, my state of animosity, if I accept this work by faith, I'm changed from an enemy of God to a child of God. I'm no longer in that state of alienation. I'm brought back to God. What a wonderful thing that is, but the death of the Lord Jesus?
Has not only reconciled you and me, we are already reconciled, who by faith have accepted him. He will also bring order into the universe and into the whole world as a result of his redemptive work. But not all men will be saved. But all things will be reconciled. You know, we find in the Millennium there will be peace even in the animal world.
You won't find animals devouring each other. And so on and so forth.
They will feed on grass, those wild beasts. They won't feed on each other anymore. As a result of the work of Christ, this will be realized. But let me close with this, beloved, because.
Hopefully someone else has something for us.
What has impressed itself upon my soul is why is the state in the world the way it is?
Why is there so much hatred? Why is there so much war?
It's because man is not in a proper relationship to God.
You know, if you have trouble in your family and you have trouble at work, Oregon, whatever, at the problem of at the basis of it all is that you are not right with God.
You're not going on with God. Whenever there is trouble, even in Christian homes, it is because things are not right before God. We're not going on with him the way we should, but the fact is that we are reconciled to God through the death of the Lord Jesus. Now we are in a right relationship to God. What should be the result of that? It should be that there is peace in our homes.
That there is peace in the assembly if we really, truly own the Lord Jesus as Lord and head.
Things will be right in our homes, in our assemblies.
You know, we come in the way many times and we allow the flesh to come up and.
There is no peace. Instead of peace, there is turmoil and unrest. But, oh beloved, may we in the assembly already prove the effects of the work of Christ in giving a demonstration that there is peace, peace.
00:35:03
Because we reconciled, may the Lord help us that we go on for Him and with Him that we enjoy in our souls that wonderful person who is our Lord, our Savior ahead.
That 16th and 17th verse.
Showed our Blessed Lord as the head of all creation and the 18th the head of the church, His body, His headship is complete. Well in John's Gospel. Let's turn to John's Gospel a minute.
We carry on a little maybe.
You see John's Gospel presents.
Jesus as the Son of God right away. He's unique in the gospel, in his deity who He is. This is anticipated Christianity in John's Gospel.
Or you take Matthew. He doesn't come out to the nation's the Gentiles.
Until the 13th chapter. But here it's right away. He was in the world. The world was made by him. The world knew him not. He came unto his own. His own received him not, but as many whosoever right away. There's no genealogy here, because the Son of God always was no beginning. Lovely. Now if you look at the last chapter of John's gospel.
Last verse.
There are also many other things which Jesus did not. Speaking of what he said, what he did, the which if they should be written. Everyone. I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen. Everything he did was a miracle. Everything.
And if you wrote everything that he did, this world wouldn't be a big enough depository to hold the books.
Now the second chapter, we'll look at the first thing he did as a miracle called the miracle. Although everything he did was a miracle.
In the first chapter, when he drew the disciples and apostles to himself, that was miraculous.
And if you notice, take Nathaniel verse.
47 Of the first chapter Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and says of him, Behold it, Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile. That's a miracle, Nathaniel said unto him, Whence knowest thou me? And Jesus answered and said unto him. Before that Philip called thee, when thou was under the fig tree, I saw thee. The Samuel answered and said to him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God. That's a miracle. Thou art the king of Israel.
Well, the next verse, Jesus said you haven't seen anything yet. I'm sorry for rephrasing it, but that's really what he said. You haven't seen anything yet.
Now the second chapter. How beautiful this is the first miracle.
And you know, a miracle. Just a little miracle. It's one act here in this chapter, but it's.
Speaks volumes to us.
It really outlines everything he's going to do as Son of God here, but lovely.
The third day there was a marriage in Cain of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there, and both Jesus was called and his disciples to that marriage. And when they wanted wine, that's the beginning.
Why in the scriptures speak of joy? They wanted joy?
Now we're going to have something here. The first thing we have four things I'm going to bring out. There's a lot more.
Time won't let anymore.
The first thing is really an entirely new source of joy.
Lasting joy.
Heavenly joy.
Her earthly joy before.
Wine speaks of joy. They wanted wine.
The mother of Jesus said to him to have no wine.
Jesus says to her woman, What have I to do with thee?
My nowhere has not yet come.
When his hour came, he had to do with her.
00:40:01
John, take care of my mother.
His mother says unto the servants. Whatsoever he says, do it.
That's faith. Now he can act.
Now he can act. Isn't that lovely? The acts on faith?
They were set there 6 water pots of stone after the manner of purifying of the Jews.
Containing two or three Perkins apiece. Oh, this is very important.
Very important.
Six is the number of incompleteness 1 short.
One short The man's number? Really.
Man's number of failure is five, but six shows he can't do anything.
There were six cities of refuge in Joshua's day one choice.
Christ is the 7th heavenly number of completeness and perfection.
So there's one short water pots.
Water speaks of the word of God.
That's what was needed here.
The word of God. That's Christ.
That's the Son of God himself. Because you read the first verse in this book and you've got it in the beginning, was the Word.
A Tib.
Of stone. How perfect the word of God. Of stone.
We had it this morning, this afternoon already. First, Peter, let's look at it. I don't want to see all these things. We don't have time to go to a mall, but this was important. First, Peter.
Chapter 2.
Verse 5.
He also has lively stones.
Now I know.
J&D Changes to Living.
And I believe in the first part of Peter here, the first chapter, it should be living.
And I would like it lively here.
You know.
Every lively stone has to be living or it can't be lively.
What every living stone isn't necessarily lively, and when it's talking about our priesthood, I think it ought to be lively.
That's the thought. But stones?
Stones.
We're living stones in the temple of God.
That lovely. All right now back.
So it's of stone.
After the manner of purifying.
Must be holy.
Be thou holy. I am holy. That is very important.
Containing two or three. Perkins.
Matthew 1820.
These living stones have to be at the right place to be used properly.
Have real joy.
Where two or three are gathered together under my name, there am I in the midst the source of all joy.
And so in this sixth verse, you've got the picture already. He's bringing it in.
Is going to show them how to get joy. Real joy.
True joy.
Jesus said the word of God. That's what makes the difference, Jesus said.
Till the water pots with water.
Must have the word of God now, brethren. It speaks of us really a new thing coming in.
You must be born again. It's got to be completely new living stones.
But they're nothing without the water.
The Word of God, Christ in them, Christ in them.
And he said unto them throughout Now I'm not going to read the rest, because time is short, but they took it to the governor of the feast.
And when he tasted, he said at the end of verse 10, Thou has kept the good wine until now. Amen.
This is what he's showing right away on his first miracle. We're going to have something better now.
We're going to have a heavenly source of joy now, a lasting joy, completely new.
That's the first thing, and this is the beginning of miracles. Did Jesus and Cain of Galilee?
And manifested his glory, and because of that.
His disciples believed on him because of who he is.
Not because of what he did. Because of who he is.
He manifested his glory.
Now from verse 12.
Down to verse 19, you've got something else.
The old isn't any good anymore. It was proved worthless.
Not religion. Now faith has to come. Not religion. Faith all new.
After this he went down to Capernaum, he and his mother and his brethren, his disciples, they continued. There are not many days, and the Jews Passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem notice.
00:45:12
Not the Passover of the Lord.
The Jews, Passover. It was our celebration.
Look at Chapter 7.
Chapter 7.
Leave verse 2 Now the Jews feast of Tabernacles was at hand.
That's what the things of the Lord committed by Moses to his earthly people ended up with.
Religion manslaughter. Man sings man's exercises, man's enjoyment. Christ is gone and out of it.
That's what we had when he came.
It's a Jews Passover.
You know through the 4th chapter.
4th chapter and verse. This is what he's bringing in on this new miracle telling him already.
Verse 23 The hour cometh and now is when true worshippers those weren't worshippers.
That Passover wasn't for him when true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit.
And in truth the Father seeketh such to worship him, and that's why Christ came.
They found in the temple those that sold oxen, sheep, doves and changers of money.
Sitting. And when he made this gorgeous small chords, he drove them out of the temple.
The sheep of the oxygen poured out the changes of money and over to the table.
Turn to Mark 11, I believe it's Mark 11.
Something very solemn here.
Verse 15 And they come to Jerusalem, and when Jesus went into the temple.
And began to cast out them that sold and bought in the temple, overthrew the tables of money changers, the seats of them that sold doves, and would not suffer that any man should carry vessel through the temple.
Did you ever think of that list?
Selling and buying.
In the temple of God, that's what. That's what it came to when Jesus was here.
Dove that was for the poor.
They're making money on those that couldn't afford it, really selling doves.
And what does that mean?
Would not suffer any to carry vessels to the temple. That's not Speaking of the holy vessels of God, I'll tell you.
Temple was in the middle. You know, it was big.
Long way around.
I do believe they desecrated the temple by their dirty feet as they came from the markets.
Carrying the packages on through.
Think of it.
You know, how bad does it get?
Turn to Nehemiah. Nehemiah chapter 13. You'll see how bad it can get. This is what was the old now something news coming. Thank God for it. Nehemiah chapter 13, I believe.
I only read a couple versions, that would be enough.
Chapter 13, verse 15 In those days so I in Judah some treading wine on presses on the Sabbath.
Bringing in sheaves and laden ***** as also wine and grapes and figs, in all manners of burdens.
Which they brought into Jerusalem on the Sabbath day.
There dwelt men of Tyre, also merchants therein, which brought fish.
And all manner of where and so of the Sabbath unto the children of Judah. And in Jerusalem, verse 17 What evil thing is this that you do and profane the Sabbath day? There it is carrying packages to the temple.
As when the Lord came.
If you look at Malachi, we don't have time. I see the times already gone. Malachite was worse. That's later. You know the father you go with man. The worse things get.
Malachi, they were offering.
The blemished and the lame.
Animal is a temple and keeping the best for themselves.
They were offering.
Gord Females.
00:50:01
You know what the Lord said. Offer them to your governor. See if he'll receive it.
They were keeping the spotless, unblemished males for themselves. Well, that's enough of that. Back to our portion. It's the Jews. Passover, Jews Passover. That's what happens. And he said unto them, verse 16, That's old Dove take these things. Make not my father's house a House of merchandise. And his disciples remembered that it was written. The zeolite house has eaten me up. You could read it in Psalms.
That answered the Jews, and said unto him, What signs show us thou unto us, seeing that thou doest these things? But under the 17th verse we got setting aside of the old order.
Because man fails.
Man fails.
Now they say, what sign are you going to give us? And this is the church.
That's the third thing the church coming in verse 1218 to 22.
Then answer the Jews. What sign? Jesus answered and said, Destroy this temple in three days. I'll raise it up.
Isn't that beautiful? This miracle tells us so much.
Joy.
I'll raise it up.
Then said the Jews, 40 and six years.
Was this temple and building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days?
Wilt thou rear it up in three days? Ephesians one turned to it, Ephesians one his reared. He did it just as he said. Ephesians 1.
Verse got to watch the time 20 which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in heavenly places, far above all principality and power, and might and dominion, and every name that is named not only in this world, but also in that which is to come, and have to put all things under his feet, and gave him to be head over all things to the church, which is his body, the fullness of him that filleth. All in all, if you read the second chapter, the 21St and second verse, you'll see it's the Holy Temple raised again.
For yourself, there's no time.
So that's the third thing. First Corinthians 12 tells you all about it. It's made-up of living stones, many members, one body.
Now the last thing, verse 22 to the end and the last thing tells us this. An entirely new object for faith. You know it's himself. I'll read it. I only got one minute. I know they'll call him while I'm talking if I don't hurry.
Uh, When therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this to them, and they believed the Scripture, that the word of the word which Jesus said now when he was in Jerusalem at the Passover in the feast day, many believed in his name. When they saw the miracles which he did, you see the first ones that was believed, they saw his glory, His person. That's real.
But Jesus did not commit himself unto them. He knew all men.
And needed not that any should testify of man. He knew what was in man.
What he wants today is reality, Reality.
One last thing. I closed because he knew all men. John 6 turned to it. John 66 chapter.
Verse 64 There are some of you that believe not. Jesus knew from the beginning.
He knows everything, he knows everything. But this is what he's looking for. Reality.
From that time, verse 66, many of his disciples went back and walked no more with Jesus. Those were not real. Those were not real. It was the miracles that drew them.
Then said Jesus unto the 12 Will ye go away also, Simon Peter? Said Lord.
Shall we go a new object for faith? A new object is himself.
Thou hast the words of eternal life, and we believe we are sure.
Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
That's the object he's putting before us. Those four things come out of that miracle, and many more. There's our new, entirely new joy ground, A whole new source. There's a new and entirely new basis for worship. It's lovely, isn't it? It's a new temple. It's a temple made of living stones, not by hand, An entirely new people, heavenly people. And there's an entirely new object now for us. It's himself.
00:55:06
It's himself. There's the source of the new joy.
The good wine came in at the last the good wine.
We have the joy.
Unspeakable, Peter the Joy. Unspeakable the first miracle. If all the things that he did were written, this world couldn't hold him. Just take one of them and see the volume that they speak to us.

Second chapter of Hebrews.
Hebrews Chapter 2.
I'm thinking of the exercise of our brother in his prayer.
In regard to having the Lord himself.
And.
We have much in that chapter, we believe that help us in that.
Hebrews.
Therefore, we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, less than any time we should let them slip.
00:05:01
The word spoken by angels was steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience receives a just recompense of reward. How shall we escape if we neglect so great salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him? God also bearing them witness both with signs and wonders, with divers miracles and gifts of the Holy Ghost according to his own will.
For under the angels hath he not put in subjection the world to come whereof we speak.
But one in a certain place testified, saying, What is man? That thou art mindful of him? Or the Son of man, that thou visitest him? Thou mayest him a little lower than the angels. Thou crowned him with glory and honor, and did set him over the works of thy hands.
Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet, For in that he put all in subjection under him he left nothing that is not put under him. But now we see not yet all things put under him. But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honor, that he by the grace of God, should taste death for every man.
For it became him for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory to make the captain of their salvation perfect through suffering.
For both he that sanctifies, and they who are sanctified are all of one for which 'cause he is not ashamed to call them. Rather saying, I will declare thy name unto my brethren, in the midst of the church will I sing praise unto thee. And again I will put my trust in him, And again behold, I and the children which God hath given me.
For as much then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is the devil, and deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetimes subject to *******. For verily he took not on him the nature of angels, but he took on him the seed of Abraham, Wherefore in all things it behoked him to be made like unto his brothers.
That he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people. For in that he himself hath suffered. Being tempted, he is able to suffer them that are tempted.
Taking it.
In regard to our brother's exercise, we have in the disappearal to the Hebrews.
Not so much the unfolding of the salvation itself, but it seems to me that we have emphasized.
The one, the person with whom our salvation is connected.
It's the greatness of the person of Christ, and that's why it's called here, I believe, so great a salvation.
Because it's connected with Christ and his work, his person, and that makes it a great salvation. I was thinking of an expression the Lord used in connection with in speaking to the woman at Jacob's well in John 4 when she brought up about.
The the the distinction between the worship in Samaria and Jerusalem and the Lord says salvation is of the Jews.
I often wondered about that expression salvation is of the Jews. I believe. What he had in mind, he was really correcting her, is setting out of the fact that in the Old Testament economy, the souls were saved from the hedonism and darkness of hedonism by being brought into the light that God had given to his earthly people, Israel. That's where salvation and deliverance from all of the heathen darkness was found.
And I believe what we have here now is that in Hebrews.
Salvation is not connected with a people.
Are a religion, but it's connected with a person, the Lord Jesus Christ. And in chapter one the greatness of that person is emphasized, that God is now speaking in sons and that he is greater than anything that God had ever brought out before. And whatever blessing that God may have given in the past, why it all pales in comparison.
00:10:18
With the Lord Jesus Christ and the great salvation that is that we are delivered, even now we are delivered and as associated and identified with this great and glorious person. That's why it's so great a salvation. And I was thinking of a little illustration.
We might illustrate this with the incident in the Gospel of Matthew. I believe it's Chapter 14.
You remember when the Lord goes up into a mountain to pray, He dismisses his disciples after feeding the multitude. And he goes up into a mountain to pray. And they're out on the water, and the Lord comes to them walking on the water. And Peter seeing the Lord, he says, Lord, if it be thou bid me to come to thee. And the Lord said, come, And he left the boat to walk on the water to the Lord. I believe the position there is that the Lord has gone up on high.
Having accomplished the work, and having glorified God on the earth.
He's gone up on high and now we are called out to be with him. We're called out, as it were, out of the boat. The boat would speak of the human resources and everything that has to do with man, the first man, and even you might say the the, the best part of the first man.
And we're called out of that. The Lord says Come, and so, Peter.
Actually, of course, he walked on the water.
In the beginning, which is unnatural. But he walked on the water because he had his eyes on the Lord, and so he was able, as it were, to be. You might say he was even superior to natural circumstances, because he had his eye on the Lord. But I was thinking especially of having being called out of the boat, out of everything that is of man, And we might say even that which is the most refined part of man, because Judaism.
Really was a refinement of man in the flesh, you might say, if you looked at the world and man living in the world and.
Before the time of Christ as we have it described in Romans chapter one, you have a very ugly picture.
Of man living in this world be praised and apart from God, and without light, and living in terrible immorality and in all sorts of evil, and blackened, darkened as to the knowledge of God. Well, now God, you might say in in giving light to Israel and the institution of Judaism. It was a refinement of man in the flesh, so that he was.
He was, you might say, refined morally, and he was refined as to to some knowledge of God, but it was still the first man. Now I believe Hebrews is bringing out that the Lord Jesus has come and all of that is set aside, and salvation and deliverance and blessing is all associated with him and associated with him as the one who has gone up on high.
The one who is in the glory, but still the one who is leading us through this.
Wilderness scene and I believe the picture is as Peter goes out of the boat to the Lord and those who would go on in the boat as it were would be they would miss this great salvation. And that's why this chapter starts off with the thought or the OR the the thought of of going on with the the Lord and not slipping away because this great salvation is identified.
With the person of the Lord Jesus Christ. Now I might say this that.
In that incident that I referred to in Matthew 14 after Peter.
Took his eyes off the Lord and began to fall or to go down, and the Lord lifted him up. Then they went into the boat, and the boat was.
After that brought the land, I believe that's a little picture that salvation is going to be brought to this world when the Lord comes again and when he takes up his.
His relationship with his earthly people Israel. But in the mean time, the Epistle to the Hebrew shows that we're called out of the boat to the person of Christ to walk by faith with our eyes on him. And the future salvation for this world is when he returns again, and that's mentioned in this second chapter 2 The world to come is going to be brought into.
00:15:26
Brought out in connection with the.
Person of the Lord Jesus Christ. But in the meanwhile we are out of the boat. We have nothing but the Lord. But He is sufficient. And as long as Peter had his eyes on the Lord, he was able to walk on the water. And it seems to me that that's what Paul is bringing out to the Hebrews. He's fixing their eyes on Jesus, the one who is, who has accomplished that great work, and he's gone on high. He's the captain of our salvation.
Is our High priest and everything is connected with him.
That word, therefore, is interesting.
Quite often in Scripture.
And it usually refers back to something that's gone on before.
I think that we attach importance to the moral character of a person.
It's more imperative what he is in. This person gives weight to what he's saying.
And so that's what they're there for is referring back to.
That is, there is something here gone before and what's it there for us?
To give weight to what he has said. To get what To give way to what the Lord Jesus Christ has said.
And it's so interesting to see how that is emphasized here.
That when the Lord gave out the word, the disciples heard it.
And they gave it out as the word of the Lord. And as they gave it out, there were signs and wonders associated with that giving out of the word. And it was really confirmed to the people that heard that these are really the words of the Lord Jesus.
This is what these Jews needed, these professional Christians among the Jews. They needed that because they were tempted to go back to the old order of things, all of which typified the coming one. The Lord Jesus Christ. The Messiah was at the Tabernacle. It spoke of Christ. Was it the altar? It spoke of Christ. Was it the sacrifices? They spoke of Christ. It all pointed to Christ. Why go back to that?
There were only shadows.
The apostle says the real thing is the Lord Jesus Christ. And they were really.
They were leaving the real faith, the real person, the person of Christ, their Messiah, and going back to that old order thing.
Well, there might be a tendency among us to go back to an old order of things.
Remember the woman at the well?
She came there with her water pot.
That was the old order of things.
She got the real vessel filled. She went out and said to the people, come and see a man who told me all things ever I did. She left the old water park.
Are we going to go back and pick up the old water pots? Isn't the Lord Jesus Christ enough for us?
In John's Gospel, chapter 5.
Love this line we see.
The Jewish religious leaders in verse 45 or 44 will bring up to the Lord Jesus. They look to Moses.
And the Lord said Moses is the one that accuses you now in verse 46.
Had you believed Moses, you would have believed me, Moses wrote of Maine. You see, in Hebrews the Lord is for us and for the Jews is setting aside everything, everything before Christ, because everything that they had in Judaism spoke of Christ. Everything was a shadow. Looking to Christ was a type of Christ. He fulfills everything.
And the highest way the Lord spake was to angels.
Think of an Angel. That's first chapter in Hebrew.
Well, notice in the first chapter though in the second verse in these last days God has spoken under what's in Son.
00:20:06
Not angels.
Son, He perfectly manifested our Father. He is the worst we're going to feed today. On the word of God is Christ. Everything is Christ. That's Hebrews such everything else aside is taking the pins out from under everything they had in Israel, because everything they had in Israel pointed to something better. Christ.
Isn't that wonderful? And so it says. In the first chapter it says.
Angels verse six Let the angels of God worship him. Let the angels of God worship him. Isn't a wonderful brethren that God has always chosen to make his thoughts known to his people, his creatures who are sinners that have no no really basis for that at all. It's all grace and he's choose different ways.
Prophets, angels, dreams at times himself. Well, you see in the garden with Adam and Eve, it was himself in the cool of the evening. He wanted to let them know some of his thoughts about them. Oh, how lovely now. But all that we have to stand in awe when we realize today He speak to us inside, inside. Let all the angels worship him, the Son.
And that's why we start. Therefore, notice the last verse in chapter one Are not all the angels.
Ministering spirits sent forth the minister for them who are the heirs of salvation. Brethren, all the angels are working for us now, But they worship him. They worship him. Isn't that lovely? So that's it. Therefore we ought to give a more earnest heed to the things that he have heard there from the Lord of glory, the one that says in verse 12, who is the same capital F.
The same always.
It's God who has faith to us, his Son, who is God. And that's why it's so very important that the word we receive, we not only hear it, we do it. It's God speaking to us. I like to read a couple of verses. One is in Galatians chapter 3, which will emphasize the difference.
And also in the Acts Chapter 7.
God speaking now in the person of his son and what he communicated in the Old Testament in Galatians chapter 3 verse 19.
It was ordained the last part of the verse by angels in the hand of the Mediator.
This is the Law that was ordained by angels in the hands of a Mediator, then in Acts Chapter 7.
Verse 53.
Who have received the law by the disposition of angels, and have not kept it.
This is to verify that you just accept rather the difference of speaking. God used angels, but now God the Son in Son God is speaking. What a solemn thing. He never had spoken that way before. What a privilege that we live at a time after this revelation has been given to us.
And in in Hebrews.
One and two, the Blessed Lord is contrasted. Our angels are contrasted with the Lord. It's not that He's compared or they are compared to Him, they're contrasted. They can't even be compared to Him. And how much superior must be that which is communicated by God the Son himself?
And the first chapter, really.
The Apostle Paul is saying this.
The one that has spoken is this wonderful person. You better listen. Don't close your ears, don't turn back to the beggarly elements.
And then already the Lord Jesus has been mentioned as the high priest. He's also the apostle and high priest of our profession. Paul is not even mentioned by name because he doesn't speak in the capacity of an apostle. He speaks in the capacity of a teacher. And it is never important to put the teacher before the people, but the one that he teaches about. And he stands back, so to speak.
00:25:19
Because the one that is our Apostle and the way he's presented here is our blessed Lord. And how important even for us, beloved brethren, when we seek to teach and to instruct the people of God to follow this example that the Apostle Paul gives us here. I'm sure he had other reasons because of the prejudice against him, because the Hebrews better knew of his stand towards the Gentile believers and so on.
But whenever we seek to present the Lord Jesus that wonderful person, we ought to face behind him, we ought to make little and nothing of man, and we have to make everything of Christ.
The first verses of our chapter is leading up to a warning that should exercise every soul. Whoever sits under the sound of the word of God, you should hear it as the Lord.
Speaking to your heart, it's a warning really, if you take it idly. And I was thinking in the next chapter, the seventh verse, wherefore as the Holy Ghost saith today, if you will hear his voice harden not your heart.
Oh, how solemn it would be to have the precious Word of God open themselves, perhaps sitting here and hearing it, the Lord speaking and not realizing or taking it into their heart who it is. Let's speak. It's not an Angel, brethren, not a prophet.
It's your creator speaking to you in words, and I was thinking, what other place was a warning? Chapter 6.
Verse 4.
Or it is not possible. It is impossible for those who are once enlightened, that have tasted of the heavenly gift and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost who have tasted, they've tasted the good word of God and the powers of the world to come. If they shall fall away. It's impossible to renew them again under repentance, seeing they crucified to themselves the Son of God of Christ.
And they've put him to open shame.
Oh, Alsala Nehemiah's day when the wall was complete, they had separation from the world.
Ezra stood on a platform, and he opened the word of God.
And all the people stood up.
They respected the fact that God was going to speak now through the prophet Ezra. Oh, how lovely that is. They all stood up. 43,000 of them stood up for four hours in a reading meeting in respect of the word of God. I just mentioned, brethren. We now have it before us and it's speaking to us today in sun. It's his son, the person of Christ.
In that first verse, I believe the.
Correct translation toward the end. It says lest at anytime we should let them slip into King James, but I think the better translation is.
Lest anytime we should slip away. The fault is not the things themselves slipping away, but we slipping away from these things, because these things, of course, will never change. The the the things established of God, the firm foundation of God's standard, we read in Second Timothy Two. They never slip away, they never change, but the danger is for us to slip away from them.
That is, that we lose the appreciation of what Christ is and what he has brought to us of God. And the result is to get away from these things. And in a practical way we are not realizing the blessing of salvation. Because I I think the Apostle in writing to the Hebrews, he is not writing to to them as a a group of sinners telling them how to be saved from an eternal.
Judgment, or something of this art. He's writing to those who are Christians. That is, there are those who take the place of being the Lords, and they have confessed Christ. And so he says the you have to give heed, lest you slip away from these things. We know, of course, that no true believer is ever going to be brought into eternal judgment. That's not the point. But a believer might slip away from these things and lose in a practical way.
00:30:18
The enjoyment of his salvation. And I was thinking of this brethren. It's one is impressed with it.
As time itself becomes a, you might say a test. And we all know of those who have slipped away. They slipped away and they've gone into the world. They've gone into paths that dishonor Christ, and they're not in the enjoyment of their salvation. They're not with their eyes upon Christ. Well, it's a word of warning to each of us that we are to take heed to these things.
That we are to to have these things before us.
In the enjoyment of them and appreciation of them. Because we will not escape if we neglect this great salvation, that is we will, we may think that we will escape. We can be neglectful of the things of God and go on carelessly and not really be enjoying the things of God, and that we will somehow escape a fall. But it isn't true. Will not escape. I'm just thinking these first four verses of this chapter.
Bring before us the authority of His Word, doesn't it, and has already been referred to the.
First chapter brings out the divine glory of the Messiah presented to the Jews, the one whom they rejected.
Have been turned now to the Lord. And as you were saying, the apostle here, writing to them, is seeking to keep them in the good of the fact that this one was the one who had authority. And he's speaking to them, telling them, And you know, I was thinking of authority when when there's a word of authority given, it has to come from one who is in the place of authority and who has the greater place, the blessed Savior, the Lord Jesus.
Is in the place of authority, isn't he not only the Divine one, but I believe later we find.
We find his his glorious humanity brought out here too in this chapter.
I was thinking also in connection with this great salvation, just turn over to the fifth chapter, thinking how it's a great salvation as to cost and so on. But verse nine of that fifth chapter and being made perfect. Well, verse eight though he were a son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered, and being made perfect, he became the author.
Of eternal salvation.
The the Hebrew believers didn't understand this. They didn't have. They were not in the good of it, in their under the law, were they? It was not they. They failed in all these things. But here is the author of eternal salvation to all them that obey him. Now you come to the the thought of authority again, don't you?
Yes.
We can slip. Satan would have it that way. He has all the forces of the world to attract the old nature, yet it hasn't changed and he will get us away from our blessed Lord and from the truth to be kind. And that's why this force is so important as we begin. What if you notice, we have an example in the last part, 24th verse of Wailea. Just a page or two back in your Bible.
There, Paul mentioned several of his.
Fellows. And he says Demos is one of my fellow laborers. Verse 24. You know, we have that privilege. We're coworkers with Christ. There he was, a fellow laborer with Paul. Think of the privilege Demos had. He let it slip. He slipped. Not the word of God. He let it slip out of his grasp and his fingers. The next time you read, I believe it's in Colossians, if you look.
When Paul speaks up in the beginning and in Colossians.
In chapter 4.
Cautions for and verse 14 Luke the beloved physician and Demas greet you. He had something to say about all that he mentioned. But Demas, he didn't say fellow labor anymore. He didn't have anything to say to commend him. But Demas was still there. But he was slipping, you know. And the last we hear then is in Timothy, second Timothy. And this is solemn.
00:35:20
Second Timothy verse 10.
Of chapter 4 for Demas has forsaken me.
Having loved this present world and is departed, he slipped.
Think of it. He didn't really realize this was the word of God, the Son of God speaking, and the world attracted him and he's gone. What does his name mean? Popular. That's a warning, young people. To all of you. If you find yourself popular with those of the world, take heed.
Divas slipped back into it. He didn't seek the present evil world. He was delivered from that.
The present world, he thought. There was something good there. Nothing.
Nothing. They crucified my blessed Savior and they would do it again. I love every one of those sinners as my my blessed Lord loves them. I can't go on with them.
It crucified him that their carnal mind is still an enemy with God, and so is my old heart. But I have a new life and it's Christ, and I want to live in that. That's what we're talking about. Demas forsook, false doctrine, false doctor. That's what he didn't want. They don't want it. Today in John's console we have, I think it's in the 6th chapter when many of his disciples.
Left the Lord Jesus, they said, These words are hard, and they left. And then the Lord says to his disciples, will you also go? And they said, to whom shall we go? Thou hast the word of eternal life. That gives us somewhat to understand what he is warning them about here, because to turn away from the blessed Lord is turning away from the words of eternal life.
And.
When we read in verse 3.
How shall we escape if we neglect the great salvation which at first began to be spoken by the law? That was when he himself was on the earth. But he is presently continuing that. He speaks from glory, doesn't he from heaven. What a wonderful truth that is beloved. And we hopefully hear the voice of the Savior when the word of God is ministered to us, perceiving His voice and look even the other apostles.
Are not mentioned as apostles. They are only confirming that which the Lord had taught.
How beautiful that is, beloved.
Whether it is Paul or the 11, they don't count as apostles, because Christ is the one that is before the St. And if he is seeking to present to our eyes this morning that our eyes be fixed on him, it's not important who ministers the truth, but it is important that it is the truth that is ministered and it will exalt Christ.
We might ask the question.
If the word of God has been confirmed.
By these signs and wonders, diverse miracles and gifts of the Holy Ghost, God used those signs and wonders. At the time, the apostles were giving out the Lord's word to prove to those people that it was really the word of the Lord.
Do we need signs and wonders today?
Isn't it true that if we're asking for signs and wonders, we're seeking for signs and wonders?
In a way, we're saying we don't believe the word of God. We need it confirmed again. Is I need to be confirmed again. We have it here in the Bible. It's all written down. We don't need it confirmed again. I was talking to a man over in Ghana.
He belonged to a certain denominational church.
And we were talking about.
The truth of God and that we had the word of God and we had the Lord Jesus. He died for us and given himself for us. Blood was shed and we might have our sins washed away and forgiven, have eternal life. And then he couldn't help but bring in about signs and wonders.
00:40:08
And I said, Why do you want signs and wonders?
And so I just went to the Scripture and showed him this.
That the word had already been confirmed by these signs and wonders. I say, why do you want them again? Don't you believe the word of God? You're really saying that you don't believe this is the word of God? I want some more signs and wonders. He didn't like that. But I believe this is what it boils down to. That if they won't accept the word of the Lord Jesus Christ.
What's God going to about? Is he going to give more signs and wonders?
The children of Israel, they knew for sure that God had spoken to Moses when he came down from that mountain and gave them the word. They knew that it was the word of God because that had been accompanied by signs and wonders, the mount of smoking and the thunderings and lightning. They knew God had spoken. They didn't need that again to be assured that it was the word of God, because time and again, even when the Lord was here, they say, we know that God spoke through Moses.
Well, this is what the writer of Hebrews is wanting these same people to see that God has spoken by Son, his own Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. And we don't need any more signs and wonders. We don't need to go back. We don't need to slip. Let's cleave to him, cleave to him with purpose of heart, because he is the Son of God and he has spoken, and what more do we need? And if we slip away from that, we're really slipping.
And about this matter of slipping.
This slipping is so gradual with us.
That we don't realize how far we have slipped.
And this is the dangerous thing about it. This is the appalling thing about it. We're slipping and we don't know how fast we're slipping and how far we've slipped. And that's why we need to get before the Lord every day to judge ourselves, to go on in fellowship and communion with Him. Judge ourselves not just the things we've done, but that old roots in us that wants to be carries away and make a slip away. Judge that before the Lord every day and go on in sweet fellowship with the Lord. Obey what He has told us.
Bowing to his authorities, think of the authority of the Lord Jesus. Who was it that gave authority to the Apostles? The Lord himself?
And now that these are apostles, we don't need apostles. We don't need that kind of authority. And yet this is what Christians understoring at. They set up men with so-called authority, because all the authorities in him.
And of course he's being set aside by these who claim to have A and even taking his place.
And setting aside the word of God and setting aside the Holy Spirit, you see how subtle all of these things are. And really, what we're talking about this morning is why the whole of Christendom is in ruins, and we're part of it. We have nothing to boast of whether we believe it's the word of God because of faith. The faith of God isn't that wonderful. Any whoever have to have a sign to prove it's the word of God will never be satisfied, no matter how many signs He gives them. Man will not do it.
The very last thing they said at the cross.
As the one who fulfilled every sight of Old Testament Scriptures in himself.
More sight and we'll believe. Come down, save thyself. They wouldn't have believed.
Isn't it wonderful? He's given us faith to believe. Now we do see signs and wonders. Those who have faith see signs and wonders. Every time one is saved, he's a new creature. Whole thing passed away. All things become new. It's a sign of the power in the word of God, and it's a wonder to be.
You know, I have a brother. We have a brother in Newcastle upon Tyne, in England.
He was a seaman, a merchant seaman. Tommy is his name.
He got saved in Vancouver when he went to a meeting of the Brethren, the Gospel.
He lived a seaman's life, I don't have to say anymore.
Very active male and when he told his uncle, who was a believer in the meeting and Newcastle uncle, he wrote. I'm coming home a Christian, I'm saved.
They wouldn't believe it when he got old. He got old on a Wednesday. They didn't believe it.
00:45:01
Saturday Night Pass.
They said Toby is a new creature. This isn't the old Sabi he got through Saturday night. Isn't that wonderful that it was there? The sign was there. There was a new life. And that life, that Toby is Christ and all things passed away he didn't do on Saturday night when he had done all his life before. When we see those signs, we see them and we rejoice. There's power. Power right here is the power in the word.
When we see it.
It seems too that I was thinking of that verse in First Corinthians, as you're mentioning Brother Dan, the the Greeks. The Jews require a sign The Greeks seek after wisdom. That's First Corinthians one. And verse 22. Well, wouldn't it go beyond for those of us who were not Jews? It's going beyond. It's using pitting our wisdom against God, not listening to the authority of God.
Not only to say, well, God will have to show me a sign.
But I'm pitting my wisdom against God, so we get a double.
Adverse condition here in Christendom today, as you mentioned and how true that is that the the Jews required a sign they wanted to see something and God showed them many signs. There were all kinds, but they didn't believe it. And so with us at this point in our day, if if I challenge God, if I say, well I want to see a sign, what am I doing? I'm applying what I think I'll put my wisdom pitting it against God.
I was thinking also in just a verse in first or in John Chapter 11, just one verse that to me has been a very, very revealing and a very precious verse, the 11Th chapter of John's Gospel.
Where the Lord Jesus there in the case of Lazarus.
Remember.
There was there was reasoning about this, but in John Chapter 11 and verse 440 and I, I, I love this verse if it brings us back to the fact that we must believe God.
First, then, then he's going to reveal something to us and it says.
Jesus said unto her, Said, I not unto thee that if thou wouldst believe.
Thou should see the glory of God.
When we believe it, when we accept it, When we accept the authority of the Word of God.
As it's given to us by the Spirit of God then we see then our eyes are open. I thought of this verse and and the challenge that they said that they said to the Lord come down from the cross that we may see and believe. Well the Lord Jesus says you've got to believe first then you'll then you'll see the glory of God. So that's very very necessary thing for us and even as believers those who belong to the Lord we can get into a reasoning spirit. We can pit our wisdom sometimes against the truth of God.
If it's a point that we want to go on with and not bow to the authority of the word of God, but it could also be beloved that we have become dull of hearing.
I thought my brother Henderson was speaking about we can't slip.
Away from things. I believe when the time sometimes it has happened in my life, and I'm sure it's happened in your life, that the word of God doesn't have the attraction for me or for you that it had at one time. I believe that is a warning signal that we better get into the presence of the Lord. Something has come in that doesn't allow the Spirit of God to present the things of Christ.
And make them precious to me and be fine in the 5th chapter that they were doll appearing because they were clinging to the types and shadows and they were still baked. They hadn't matured, they hadn't grown well. In Corinth there was a similar condition, only there it was worldliness that that they were in that infantile condition before God and they couldn't grow.
Worldly wisdom and all this kind of a thing allowed in our lives and in our heart will hinder the Spirit of God to take the things of Christ and make them precious to us. What we have to fear more than anything is reasoning and divine things instead of faith. God only reveals these things to us by faith and not by reasoning. We need the mind for spiritual apprehension, but it is only a tool.
00:50:12
The spirit of God is the power, and faith makes it our own. Paul brought that out so clearly in Romans 3, the third chapter. We're talking about the.
And the wonders of all how wonderful there was in the Old Testament times, God really made himself know what it Barnett said, has the Jew or what prophet is there of circumcision? He says I'm saved, but all my brethren there in Jerusalem, they're not. What advantage that they have with all that time. He answered it much every way, chiefly because that under them were committed.
The oracles of God. It wasn't that they had the signs and wonders, They had the word of God.
Committed to them for what, if Trump did not believe, shall their unbelief?
Bake. And here's the key. The faith of God without effect, God forbid.
God is true in every man a liar. You make God a liar.
In a sense, if you deny the word of God, he is true and how wonderful it is that the key is the expression, the faith of God. You see, you have faith, but it's the faith of God-given to you as a gift. And that's the only reason you can believe the word of God. You'll never believe it with your mind, You'll believe it by faith. And if there's any scripture, young people that are here that trouble you.
Never wrestle with it. Enjoy what you could enjoy.
And pray about what troubles you, and ask the Lord to reveal it. And to the Holy Spirit he loves to do it.
