48*. The Father Sent the Son

6,6,8,4, bis.
by H.K. Burlingham
1
The Father sent the Son

A ruined world to save;

Man meted to the Sinless One

The cross — the grave;

Blest Substitute from God,

Wrath’s awful cup He drained;

Laid down His life, and e’en the tomb’s

Reproach sustained.
“And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth. And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed.” (Matthew 27:59-60)
2
The new and living Way

Stands open now to heaven;

Thence, where the blood is seen alway,

God’s gift is given.

The river of His grace,

Through righteousness supplied,

Is flowing o’er the barren place

Where Jesus died!
“By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh.” (Hebrews 10:20)
3
The Lord shall come again!

The Conqueror must reign!

No tongue but shall confess Him then,

The Lamb once slain:

Jesus is worthy now

All homage to receive;

O sinner, to the Savior bow,

The truth believe!
“Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.” (Acts 1:11)
“And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.” (John 14:3)
“For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet.” (1 Corinthians 15:25)
“For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.” (Romans 14:11)
“Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honor, and glory, and blessing.” (Revelation 5:12)
