Man is a sinner. God is a Holy God. He will by no means clear the guilty (Ex. 34:7). Divine righteousness at all costs must be maintained. But what does this involve? We know full well that the sentence passed by God upon the sinner is DEATH (Rom. 6:23). And does death end all? No, infinitely solemn are the words of Scripture:—"It is appointed unto men once to die, but AFTER THIS the judgment." (Heb. 9:27).
We repeat, there is no evading this question of all questions, How can a Holy God offer salvation to guilty sinners unless His righteousness be fully maintained?
