And He touched his ear, and healed him.
In his exuberance to stop the Lord being arrested, Peter used his sword to cut off the ear of the High Priest’s servant. The Lord rebuked Peter. The time had come for Jesus to go to the cross, and nothing could stop Him. In compassion for the injured man, Jesus touches his ear and heals him. Whether He put his ear back on or not it doesn’t say. Maybe He didn’t. And the missing ear would be a reminder to the man for all his life that he was one who helped arrest the Son of God and condemn Him to death on the cross.
