The Result of Deferring Forgiveness

To place forgiveness beyond the sinner's reach; to place it at the very end of the course; to make it a thing of perpetual doubt, is to afford room and excuse for self-righteousness— that very room and excuse which God, by sending us so free a gospel, has been at such pains to take away. If there be room left for doubting, there will be also room for boasting; whereas God, in making known His free love, meant to leave no room for either. “Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? Of works? Nay, but by the law of faith. Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law." (Rom. 3:27, 28.)
